I have a picture of my mom and dad picking peaches in my grandmother's backyard from 70 yrs ago. My dad was up in the tree and my mom was catching the peaches. You brought back memories from a long time ago for me.💕
You should get a fruit picker! It's basically a basket on a stick, and it also has teeth to go in between the branches. So easy! I moved into a house with a fruit tree and my mom said that she saw these at estate sales all the time. I looked and looked and never found one in MN, but she did in TN and brought it to me! It's so handy. Keep an eye out!

Sartre's Les Jeux Sont Faits (The Chips are Down) is one of my favorite books! Copies of the original French are plentiful and you can buy one very cheaply. But the English version is out of print, so copies (even paper back) are rare and valuable. I didn't know that when I first stumbled on one in a used book store in SF. After reading it, I loved it so much, I wanted to buy a copy for a friend. That's when I realized how rare/valuable they are. (I got mine for $6 because the store didn't know what they had either.) Since then, I look for copies every time I'm in a used bookstore. I've found 5 or 6 over the years for very cheap, mostly in SF and Oakland :)

It’s super common to acid wash newer rugs and sell them as vintage. Faux-aging is really popular in reselling, especially rugs. An authentic vintage or antique handmade rug will stay vibrant in color regardless of how old it is. I think acid washing is an awesome alternative as long as the seller is being honest about it 🙌

When I was 17 or so, I found that windblown man at Goodwill! The one I found was made of plaster, so he was a bright white. I kept him for quite a few years, but he didn't really go with my decor style and I never had a good place to put him. I named him Gaspard. I see other versions of him sometimes in Tumblr posts and will show my mom, lmao. He was quite the fixture in my room.

I love shopping with you, MaCenna! You mentioned a few times in this vlog about needing to clean up your secondhand art finds. Sometimes I’m scared to clean thrifted artwork (both the frames and the paintings) even when it really needs it for fear of messing it up. I would LOVE to see a video of what the process of cleaning your vintage art entails!! 🖼️

I understand that traditionally, oil paintings were restored by using "cotton tips" and saliva. Moving forward, they synthetically manufacture the "saliva" as it takes too long to restore pieces otherwise. Maybe your mum could paint a Cali beach setting for that tiny frame - keeping it true to the state you are in. Have fun finding new homes for all your new art! 😁

Being French , I can only congratulate you on your good accent 😊 the expression comes from casino. When people gamble money, « les jeux sont faits » means they can’t change their mind , game will start. So in the common language it’s what you said : means things are what they are now with decisions your made, you can’t go back or change your mind and you just have to wait for what will happen.
Anyway , still a pleasure to follow you when wish we have same amazing flea markets in France but unfortunately we have nothing to compare with 😢

When you were looking at the marble checker/chess boards... I saw an idea I am loving for it. Its woukd be great in a sideboard in a dining room , or on a kitchen hutch. They took all kids of different glass vintage salt and pepper shakers and filled them with salt and pepper. for each side. The king and queen pieces would be vintage silver larger shakers. It is visually such a unique vignette. I still have the book with the picture, and am collecting the salt and peppers. You could even buy a small set of the little square individual S&P sets for dining tables. Love the oval art at the end of the stairs. Would be pretty with a small vintage dresser and lamp underneath to make it pop.

Beautiful pieces! I actually love that large gold ornate frame painting above the fireplace. I would paint the brass screen of the fireplace black with a matte high heat spray paint bottle that way it doesn't clash with the gold frame and it can stand out.

MaCenna! Buy a fruit picking tool!!! I have citrus trees and it’s amazing! Especially because lemon trees have thorns. It’s a long pole with a sort of wire cage/basket on one end, with metal “fingers” coming out of the basket opening. The “fingers” grab the lemon and it goes right into the basket!
I would definitely swap that new painting for the one in the guest bedroom. The feathering on it makes it look so dreamy.
