MaCenna, as an art teacher myself and having seen hundreds of people paint for the first time, what you have done here is amazing. So lovely, so you. Can't wait to see your progress through the journal. A wonderful keepsake for your first year in your new home.
Your painting book reminds me of my travel sketch book. I took a class on mindfulness and sketching when outdoors. I take my sketch book and pencils with me me when I travel. It helps calm my mind and be more present in the moment. I write little things on the page about the weather, sounds and place. I really enjoy it. My ADHD brain needs to shutdown and this helps. I love the idea of a painting book. Thank you for the inspiration!
I love your cornflower blue phase. It brightens your spaces without sacrificing your moody feel. I also loved your yellow accents for your pool area! Two bright and happy colours.

I haven't painted in years. On that note I'm getting out my paints. Thanks for the inspiration. I've followed you for years. You always inspire me. Love you 🩵✌️☮️
Dear MaCenna, Oh my... Painting in your yard. Tranquility personified. May I suggest putting a date on each of your paintings. It's a lovely time line. I truly enjoy your journey as you discover more of yourself and share with us. Life is a journey to be lived, not a mystery to be solved. Your vlogs are pure joy to me. Hugs💞
Yes Kinsley is such a cute poodle. I love her. I trained at Art School and designer's gouache was my medium for flower painting. You shouldn't really use white but use the colour of the flower and then for the paler areas let the paper show through. Gouache can be taken off and don't forget to blot it if needed. We used to use a blade to do the veins in leaves and the paint sinks into the lines. It's a good try though 👌😁🇬🇧
Idea for the book! First half scrapbook/keepsakes from your relationship, second half wedding/baby book/wedding photos! Like all of your shared happiness leading up to your beautiful day! And if you choose not to get married, it can be a baby/family book!
Hi lovely. I used to work in event management for many years. Like you I put myself under immense pressure of everyone around me and their expectations. It took complete burnout for me to realise that no-one has you under any pressure but yourself. The reality is everyone has their own issues and problems and with the greatest respect, you putting out a video is just a lovely surprise any day. The pressure comes from you, not us, we got you either way. So take that break, have a breather, spend time with those around you. We'll be here regardless. xx
When I see your videos I get a smile on my face. Thank you for the amazing content and just being yourself!!! We went to a flea market over the weekend and my boyfriend said "channel your inner MaCenna" haha. Hope you had a great birthday. Lots of love - Linda xx🌼

Watching this back and hearing you talk about "there's nothing more I want in life right now then to have a baby" and knowing you'll be expecting your little one this year is wiiild and so beautiful 😇
Your painting was beautiful! You are so talented. Btw the book you got, From the Terrace, was actually made into a 1960 film with Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.
@@xomacennavlogsand they had a long (50 years, until his death) and wonderful marriage, unlike most successful actors. So a good omen for you and Romeo.
Oh MaCenna, You are multitalented. Your painting skills are natural. I’m s certain your moms talent has poured into you. You found some gems at the estate sales. Cannot wait to watch the next video.
That’s an incredible painting you created, definitely artistic ability there. Glad your enjoying your summer, everything is lovely. Rest , relax, be kind to yourself.💖
I love seeing you go to farmers markets and your plans for paintings, slowing down and enjoying your life! it gave me a little insight into the pregnant/ mum life mackenna content we might see soon 😊
MaCenna, there are ALL Kinds of books available for beginner painters that will give you exercises to practice. By exercises I mean different ways to turn the brush to achieve a particular look. They will also explain which brushes are best for whatever you are trying to paint. You did a great job for a first painting and I hope you keep it up.
You will be a wonderful mom one day just pray about it 🙏 You are so talented and I think your first painting is amazing, you definitely have it in you 💯
MaCenna, that's a great first painting. Guache is definitely a wonderful medium for you to work with but a little color theory could have saved you a lot of money.❤ Ask your Mom.
Not her first painting. Go back three years and check out how many paint supplies and brushes etc she has got. If her mother paints she has definitely painted before
I think I can speak for many of your fans. We all love you, MaCenna!! We all love and enjoy you sharing your life, having us part if your projects and being a role model, and an inspiration to us!! We go through a process, and withdrawals when you take your reset breaks. ❤❤❤
I am not an artist, but I love to get out in nature, park, hike, my yard, and sketch and use color pencils of trees, bugs, flowers, etc. It is very relaxing and it causes me to really notice the details of the natural world. Your are just flourishing and glowing being at your home in LA. There is just something about the energy of your house that I’m so drawn to. You are right where you need to be at this time in your life. Thank you for sharing your ‘joie di vie’ with us. 🌸
MaCenna I just love this phase of your life that you're in. It was funny when you mentioned how you missed us because I definitely missed you. I truly feel like I'm spending time with a friend watching your vlogs. I'm in this need for change phase of my life. Long overdue, but its never too late right? Thank you for being an inspiration. For being brave (even when you don't feel brave) 😊
That painting was amazing! I looked away for a moment so when you revealed it i thought it was the photograph! So much talent in everything you set your mind to ☺️xx
Omg yes art 🥹💖 welcome to the art club! I hope you find it relaxing and enjoyable while you get more comfy with it. Your painting was phenomenal. Gouache is actually a little bit of a difficult medium to learn for people who don’t paint, so you did really well! Also don’t feel silly about buying your plate for you paints bc I have two vintage egg trays that I use for my water colors/gouache 😂 the aesthetic makes it more fun!
I hope to see more of your painting journey! I’d love to also learn about that from your mom and see her process! I want to learn so badly and I’m looking into classes in my area too! But y’all have my style and I love watching you do anything lol
It was so calming just to watch you paint. I laughed when Kinsley drank from the glass- it reminded me of my dog drinking out of all our glasses one hot summer day when we were installing a shed in my backyard.
You’re a cancer ♋️ we are naturally creative people. I’m not even surprised that you have artistic talent. Your painting turned out so good. I loved seeing you painting in your garden, such a vibe! 🌸
Ahhh! 😱 was I the only who squealed when she said “baby”?! MaCenna, you have so inspired me you have no idea. I’ve had to move back home with my dad because my mom passed away this past January. I’ve just come back to your videos because it was really hard seeing the episodes with your mom. (It reminded me of my mom and I having fun) I am inspired to make over our home. My mom and I loved your videos. I wish you all the peace and love in the world .
Thank you for sharing this beautiful vlog! I love the slowing down and painting, book talk, hanging out and I hope it is equally fun and relying for you, too!
I remember an artist that needed a fine hair line and she used a coarse hair to make that fine line and she created her own brush with one hair. Amazing artwork thou. You did an awesome job for your first one. Hope you find it a way to relax and enjoy in the future! Love your videos. Have enjoyed the ones I have watched so far. Looking forward to more which you have many to watch even thou I am a beginner. I guess you might say that you are addicting lol! But I love watching what you create and how talented you really are. Oh and your mothers artwork is awesome!.
Wow, you are an artist, I love that rose!!!! You are such a perky beautiful person. I wish my daughters were as happy as you seem. The world being what it is now, your face and voice and doings light up my day and my life. You are a tonic!!!!💖💖💖
Ahhh Cornflowers I had in my wedding bouquet 😢! So emotional I became that the next generation loves the same things I love ! Your and Romeo’s house is so much of what I love ! Keep it going sweet MaCenna ! All you do is terrific !! 💕🌸🙏👍y
You have got your Mama's artistic talent for painting Macenna!🎨🖼❤ remember to date your pictures, then you'll really see how quickly you progress throught the year. I do hope you keep it up, art and crafting is my go to relaxing time. I get hyper focused in an art or craft session!
I read through some of the comments and I didn’t see any comments about ‘baby”. You would make a wonderful Mom. Just seeing your love for the people and fur baby you have in your life, a baby would be so blessed to have you as a Mom. ❤
I think the outdoor table between the loungers would likely have been a 1930’s laminated and French polished coffee table. The laminate is gone with the polish but it’s still got fabulous shape. Not likely to be teak as was an indoor piece of furniture and probably manufactured before teak was imported to industrial countries . Give it a good and generous feed of oil and wax to nourish and protect it and maybe a round of glass or marble on top to help with weather proofing. The pool area is looking fabulous
Like most things……slowing down takes practice. If you come back to your painting hobby day after day, your mind will gradually accept the slower pace. Love you MaCenna…..
So glad that you are slowing down, You are amazing in all you do and so inspirational, but life is so hectic and busy as it is, We need to be able not to feel pressurised into thinking that the more busy we are the more value we have ( especially us girls) . cant wait to see the curio cabinet upcycled it looks like a lovely piece.
The quality of paints varies considerably as does the paper in sketch books. Using water based paints requires heavier weight paper. Stillman and Birn Zeta sketchbooks would be perfect. Winsor and Newton gouache will give you great results. Using just primary colors and mixing will give you every color under the sun. Have fun😊
Just channel your inner Bob Ross! After watching him it makes me feel like I could do it! Lol Yes, I think your mom pass down the painting gene! Pretty good for the first time! Also;, maybe you could go and watch your mom do some paintings and learn a few things!
You're good at painting too???? I mean, you're super talented!! Thank you MaCenna for sharing with us your projects, and what's on your mind... really, thank you...
Your art was so good!! I’m glad you are taking up a new hobby that involves something completely removed from the houses or renovating. I would imagine it feels more rejuvenating. I can’t wait to see future art projects!
I love your idea of filling your sketchbook with your garden! And to use a plate you love to make the process even more enjoyable. Porcelain really makes the best paint palette. You might already know this, but the paints from the sets you can rewet (also called “traditional gouache”), the tubes you bought separately are acrylic gouache, so you can’t rewet them once they are dry. Acrylic gouache are great for layering. Traditional gouache is great if you have leftover paint on your palette because you can rewet ant keep on using it. Love all your videos, they are always so inspiring!
For your first time, i can honestly say how beautiful it turned out. You have most definitely inherited your mums talent. As someone who took art in highschool/college i was always taught to start painting the background first, as you want the foreground to lay ontop. But really there is no wrong or right way to art. 🩷
If this is your first attempt at painting, I would say you definitely inherited your Mom’s talent! Beautiful job-and it will be interesting to see your progression.
I love watching your vlogs! They're some of the highlights of my week! I remember first watching your channel in the beginning of the pandemic when I wanted to thrift flip all the furniture in my parents' house (lol thnx mom and dad) and I'm so proud of where you are today!! You did amazing things back then, and are doing amazing things now. And I don't just mean your skills at renovating! But the way you're romanticizing the garden and just... thriving. It makes me so happy. Your energy is inspiring! And your garden gives me life. ☺
So happy to see you relax with painting flowers. I hope to see you do more of that. The best white for your white flowers is titanium white with a tiny amount of a yellow. Taking art lessons from your Mom would be ideal too but if you would like to see someone talk about art supplies and the process of painting, Sandi Hester is a good choice. I am currently enrolled in Acrylic University which is a fantastic learning experience, but you would need to catch an open enrollment time.
What a delightful video! I love that you spent the day with Romeo doing yard sales and found so much. I don't think you're really capable of choosing something I wouldn't like! But that table with the slender, twisted legs! *swoon* Just too sweet! And I always think, when small tables have slender, "stork-y" legs and and small feet, that they look like they're standing in their tiptoes! Such a happy look. Great little, old painting, transferware mug, and that beautiful blue vase! Such a gorgeous color and an attractive shape. Quite a find for $1!! The pot would look great with orchids or some sort of bulbs planted in it. Maybe not orchids - now that I think of it, I think they prefer their roots to be deep... But it would look great with something tallish and upright planted in it. Can't wait to see the curio cabinet and what you do with it. Love the table you put out in the patio, but it definitely needs some tightening up of the joints. I'm not sure if it's teak, but it could definitely use some teak oil if it is! You made me smile in the way you set up for your outdoor painting session. I would have done it the same way - setting it all up to be a romantic vision of painting! Right down to the beautiful plate as your palette! The only thing missing was the big hat with the chiffon or ribbon that tied under the chin so it couldn't blow away! I believe setting the scene and the mood is important, especially when you start out - helps give you confidence and a sense of purpose. And just look what you accomplished! Your first painting is exquisite! And you were the absolute picture of tranquility and serenity. This new phase of your life - new home, settling in to CA, and planning for your family - is making you just glow!
Hi just to let you know I have a very similar table which I bought in an antique shop many years ago…..they call it a barley twist legs side table. I love it. Great choice. The house is coming along well. You have a wonderful eye for design. Keep up the good work.
I absolutely love your painting ❤ and the goal you set for learning something new! For small brushes, try out a liner brush, they give you so much control for small details. Painting a controlled line with one for me gives me the same satisfaction as a nice straight line with a Purdy brush on a wall.
Everyone's time line is different. Life has a funny way of handing things to us when we least expect it or when it's the right time.....not the PERFECT time...the right time. I am excited for you that you feel that this is your time and life is pointing you in the direction of parenthood. There is nothing quite like it. From one multitasker to another....this will be your biggest most rewarding undertaking yet. I look forward to your podcast.
I’m not a painter but my weaving has the effect on me that you’re talking about. The planning is intense and involved (and mathematical like your building projects) and the weaving itself is relaxing, tactile and satisfying. I loved your first little painting and wish you great joy in doing this.
McCenna ,I bet your mom is smiling with such pride of your first painting!!! It came out so good..!!.God blessed u with so many talents and your mom talent is definitely in u too..
Kinsley drinking out of that glass was so hilarious and cute. Your mind is like mine, my body can’t keep up with it 😂 always going through lists and projects even while a massage session and takes me some time to finally reach that calm. I’m glad you’re taking some time in a relaxing activity. Very well done on your first painting. I have some attempts on canvases myself with acrylics, gotta say, I always succeeded in creating by experimenting with mediums rather than traditional paint and brush because it stressed me when I couldn’t get to the results I wanted and took a long time trying to fix. I think a faster pace gives me more satisfaction? Wouldn’t know for sure.
Now you can paint all the tiny art you’ve been searching for! ❤
MaCenna, as an art teacher myself and having seen hundreds of people paint for the first time, what you have done here is amazing. So lovely, so you. Can't wait to see your progress through the journal. A wonderful keepsake for your first year in your new home.

Love this. You so deserve this time for yourself. So need to do this - thanks for inspiring us!!!
Can so relate… forcing myself to slow down and play is hard.
You definitely inherited the painting talent. Your painting was beautiful. You do everything well.
I love your ideas, thanks for explaining the details of the painting in your book. You make me happy. ❤
Such a tease! Loving the little glimpses of chair placement in family room & guest bedroom. Waiting for a updated tour.
that's one massive old photo album! awesome to see it repurposed :D and amazing art
When macenna was talking about the blue vase we see blue flowers outside her window. So pretty...no wonder she loves the colour
Macenna - your painting journal is such a fun idea and sounds like a great way to slow down and relax. I’m looking forward to a DIY video! Can’t wait!
OMG! MaCenna! That dress! 😍😍😍🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
Yup, the artistic was def passed down to you!! Gorgeous painting!! Looked so relaxing as you did it!! Keep it up!!
Loved this video! I love life-style videos and you just inspired me to spend more time in my own lovely yard. Thank you!
Hi just to let you know I have a very similar table which I bought in an antique shop many years ago…..they call it a barley twist legs side table. I love it. Great choice. The house is coming along well. You have a wonderful eye for design. Keep up the good work.
Love this style of video, not busy just shopping and pitter around the house. & love the painting of the rose .
Macenna mentioning @taramichelle just made my day. My two favs 🥹❤️✨
McCenna ,I bet your mom is smiling with such pride of your first painting!!! It came out so good..!!.God blessed u with so many talents and your mom talent is definitely in u too..
I am right with you in the cornflower blue. I just love it.
That Farmer's Market was great. Those Strawberries!!!!!
