Best Hanamura Attack Ever - How Shanghai Dragons Rolled Seoul Dynasty | Pro Overwatch Analysis
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 чер 2020
- In Week 12 of the Overwatch League, Echo, Tracer, Orisa, and Moira were banned from the hero pool. With Orisa banned, the conventional poke heavy double shield comp was impossible to run, and the strength of dive comps was also compromised with Tracer and Moira out of the rotation. Thus, while there were some variance between teams, either control or brawl heavy Reinhardt comps were preferred.
The match of Seoul Dynasty versus Shanghai Dragons definitely caught the attention of the viewers as both teams were considered top of the regular season.
Shanghai and Seoul both 3-0ed their first match against Guangzhou Charge and Hangzhou Spark respectively, and many looked forward to their match against each other.
However, the Dragons were uncontested in the match as they took a swift 3-0 against Seoul. Today, we will take a look at their match in Hanamura highlighting and discussing strategies and mistakes.

So glad blizz stopped copyrighting all OWL material. You guys present this way way better than they ever could. Their breakdowns were mediocre at best.
Einar they wouldn’t even copyright them in the first place, because Akshon is partnered with the Overwatch league
Water Napple they did it in the past
@@fabib2031 because there were not partnered with owl
Wait what happened?
Whocares we're all from the same OW family stop whining #freeamerica
The title of this video would have been the best april fools joke 2 years ago.
True but they are basically different teams (I know there’s Fearless but still (and Diya but he doesn’t play) )
@@yugen9351 yeah ik
I just started playing OW again after a 18 month hiatus. Imagine my surprise when I saw Shanghai actually winning lmao
@@oliverfahrendorff2916 dude seeing all these players switched to different teams messes with my brain
*I just came to OW May Melee for the tokens/video contest. Seeing THIS title and only knowing early OWL/Apex, I was surprised*
This attack was amazing to watch. Shangai Dragon was 4 parallel universe ahead of us!
They speedran the attack
they paused buffered a perfect blj and used pu movement to cap the point
Agreed. Not building up Mei’s de facto speed for 25 hours was the Dynasty’s L to hold.
Honestly this kind of strategic stuff gives me hope that OWL is actually evolving high level play and isn't just t500 but everyone is sweating extra hard.
T500 don't have the coordination teams have... just individual skills. This SHD strat is impressive but you act like strats weren't a think in OWL S1 and S2. Thats like mashing a bunch of college bball players together and expect them to have a strat without a coach, and staff.
The dragons are the biggest brain team in all of OWL with that flank play
well they are from china so they all must have atleast A in all grades...
@@squidish6041 lmao
The production quality of these analysis videos is superb. 👏
Much appreciated!
A 3, 2, 1 attack strategy seems amazing for attacking on 2cp maps, and also incredibly fun to watch live! A true chess strategy.
it's definitely very interesting if someone could break it down in high quality, otherwise I think it would be a mess to watch in live.
*Tries this in Plat Solo queue*
*GROUP UP, STOP FEEDING* as we all go in and fight separate messy 1v1 & 1v2s
Hoku The Overwatch Editor do true
@@TL-fe9si There's a Chinese caster Chen who broke down this 321 play really well.
Remember when Shanghai went on a 40 something loss streak back in the day? Good times
And then you skip forward and now they have Fleta on dps, no one ever expected that
They basically replaced the entire team
@@stevehouser7482 Except fearless
@@benjamincharlton1388 no more fearless
Cause it’s not even the same team anymore lol
Love to see play like this, way more interesting than the usual. It reminds me more of how CS:GO strategies work, with dividing the team between sites and similar.
Or siege with small 1 or 2 man strike teams from multiple locations
@@bartekmostek4850 Yeah, absolutely
This is the type of strategy you want to see in Overwatch. Theoretically, with how many movement abilities and other abilities there are, flanks and "multi-angle" assaults should be more common. It hasn't been that way because of sustain but with sustain being chipped away, you can see plays like this happen more. I firmly believe this is what pro Overwatch is meant to be, not 6v6 brawl stacks.
Napoleon said that on the battlefield the amount of troops you have isn't the most important thing. It's about having as many points of attack as possible. So I'm not surprised. One of the greatest matches of all time btw.
napoleon big brain
The only thing I got from this was DVa can eat Pharah's boop which I never thought possible
Any projectile
You don’t play much customs then huh
Bruh
@@austinjacob5776 Does not work for all projectiles
Hahahahha
Do you prefer the week by week format of OWL or if it took a tournament-style format with breaks in between similar to the May Melee?
Week by week for sure, but with tournaments mixed in. I suppose that would end up being a lot like the stage format of S1 & 2? 🤷♂️
Tournaments but with very small breaks
Tournament
Definitely the tournaments, they give teams more to play for and bring in viewers to a much higher degree
I love the videos it's helping me every day
This type of rotation and strategy truly is peak Overwatch. I hope we see pro play evolve to include this more and more, and move away from 6v6 GOATS-style stacks.
I couldn't stop repeating the maycree because I thought something was wrong with my ear.
8:35 the mccree
That was some 4D Chess right there.
Yes! Overwatch!
We've been diversifying our content, but are making sure to have lots of Overwatch videos in the works :D
I agree
Akshon Esports can you do some of the may melee match of Shanghai vs Seoul
The last point push is so incredible. Really highlights the ways that pro players and their coaches go above and beyond regular play
Do more overwatch vids specifically Shanghai’s mental reverse sweep!
YES! that reverse sweep was the greatest match this year
Would love to see videos like this during OWL breaks between maps instead of CoD ads over and over again
This is amazing! I can imagine the OW characters planning an assault to Hanamura castle like this!
Hi this is HoChiLee, the script writer of this piece. Currently LFT as coach after coaching for a team that finished 5th in the Contenders playoff!
twitter.com/HoChiLeeOW
www.twitch.tv/hochileeowcoach
The replay viewers became unavailable in the middle of production, and thus some parts of script could not be used or could only be portrayed with limitations in visuals.
I want to thank the media team for still making this piece possible.
please let me know if you were confused with some parts of the video :)
To prevent losing replays mid production, I'll plan to focus more on the most strategically notable team fights
and go deeper into them to give you guys more direct ideas on how to defend or attack different maps and modes.
Thank you :)
(ADDED)
1:12 someone inquired about explaining this part.
things were portrayed in detail in my script, but the editing process for this piece was difficult which made it hard to ask for another update on the draft when editor did not portray my script to full extent initially. Word for word in my script I said, "Let’s first discuss why they had a switch up in the comp. Generally, Baptiste is considered to have the advantage in controlling the space than ana with his immortality and burst poke dmg mid range. Therefore, Bap is often used in many double shield comps that have the advantage in taking and keeping space. But Ana’s skill sets, sleep dart cc and biotic grenade, arguably have better utility, and the nano boost is proven to be considerably more impactful with reinhardt comps. (Show Kariv sleep darting pharah in ua-cam.com/video/9f4iXpjeUAM/v-deo.html) Dva can also find better pick opportunity on flying targets and her damage matrix has better potential than sigma in denying important skill resources spent from the enemy team.
"
To go more in detail, Bap and Ana can both suppress flying targets like pharah-mercy, but knowing Shanghai using pharahmercy, it meant mercy ana was their heal comp. This also meant Shanghai wasn't using double shield comp. So poke burst (mainly to counter double shield) isn't as needed + ana's sleep dart and nano have better carry potential on pharah-mercy (ex. cc on one of them, Nano-cree) than bap window (much more x-axis linear ult. Difficult to target pharah above). If done right, Dva is better than sigma in countering pharah overall as dva can eat barrage better and attack her in the air. Seoul's rein now has to shield alone too due to dva. This ties back to rationale in picking ana because nano gives rein solo shield tank enough resource to keep the frontline or even gain space alone + sigma's better longer range pokes are traded to counter pharah thus bap's window loses value.
Good shit keep it up 👌
Thank you all for your hard work
*You say this is the best engagement strategy in Hanamura OWL... in 2020. What have been, with context of the metas, the best engagements of the previous years of pro/top competitive Overwatch?*
If it already exists as a video of yours lmk I'll check it out
Nice job too all of ya 😊
@@xtzyshuadog i would say the atmosphere was totally different back in 2019. goats meta and cancer double shield that never broke which forced players to play the "run past shield for dmg". Both goats and old double shield made every team play stacked position because there weren't much value in flanking. Goats have too many synergy for close range dmg from tanks + AOE heals from brig and lucio. Old sigma could make flanking useless with his shield easy. So nothing strategically fancy could come out back then. Maybe just minor micro strat holding behind and above when pre-positioning is possible.
The reason why I am a Dragon fanboy right now. Dragon being in the top 5, who expected that?
Anyway, love your vid, can't wait for another esport showcase, and analysis about other games.
Your camera angles and the slow mo for the last fight are on point. It looks so good and cinematic. Keep up the good work.
Only 150k subs at this level of quality? This channel needs more subs ASAP!
The finals in the May melee with Shanghai vs Seoul was insane
Holy shit you’re so good with the camera. When they were pushing the second objective it looked so cinematic, especially 7:47
Thanks for this video, we need more of these!
Another amazing analysis with accurate and precise explaining! I love your videos as I'm very analytical.
Amazing video and OW content! Really love this and the micro plays videos, you're doing a great job creating educational, entertaining and high quality content! Seriously guys, keep up the good work, it's much appreciated!
Love these types of videos! Watched every single one!
Wow. Amazing work. More of these please.
These videos are so interesting - I love them!
Glad you like them!
This was a great video. Fun to watch, and very informative
I think the key of Shanghai's success on this map was their preparation. Fits showed his aggresive play style in the earlier weeks of game. Everyone knows marve1 was a main tank player and now a sigma specicalist. They used pharah-mercy comp to force marve1 to play dva. They gave a lot of care on fits results in a lot of first blood from fits. Shanghai did a classic rotation bait (go to second floor entrance first then speed boost to point from mid ) once before in Esports Shanghai Masters before this season OWL started. So they assumption was Seoul already know this strategy. And they designed this ridiculous 3 steps attack to grab defence players' attention and sight on the point and second floor baptiste, so the sigma mei flank could work. Usually 3 way split = feed
Love these videos!
Thanks!
I love these vids man
I love watching this even though i don't play that much overwatch it's just satisfying.
Keep grinding bro im right there with ya 😊
Flank play was amazing and a great analysis, nice vid!
Glad you enjoyed!
Your videos are just insane. I can't describe it
Great video !
What is the name of the song in the background? Epic video people, just keep up the good work!
Wow, wow thank you for this. So cool to see!
As someone who only ever plays Quick Play and Arcade, that 3 point attack was insane to me!
Love your vids on is amazing keep up the good work!!!
Glad you like them!
@@Akshonesports thank you so much for responding to me not getting really personal but I'm 10 and usd to play on I had a old pc and wanted to play valorent so I got the beta from watching twitch and sadly 😔 😞 I moved over to valorent and leaved on but I play it here and there and had so much fun times playing it your prob the only of channel I watch now hope your channel grows and I hope you have a fun time making your vids!!!!
This was really well done, shanghai popped off
This was a work of art.
Ngl the dragons are rolling in May. Keep it up 👍!
Are you going to make a video on lunatic-hai vs runaway??? They just played and would love an in depth video
I remember back in the day, Fleta used to be on Dynasty, and in their match against London on lunar colony, he swapped to reaper as London had just captured point one on their first attempt with a 4-2 comp. the ensuing fight then proceeded to last so long that their time bank ran out. Some details may be incorrect, but it was a long fight for 2nd point on lunar colony with fleta as reaper and London with Orisa and hog in a 4-2 Moira lucio comp
Such nice strat and coordination.
that push was soo beautiful
We need a vid on Shanghai’s Smurfing during the May Melee
great video, could you do Dallas record run on Rialto against the Outlaws next?
I would love to see it
also cold : Decay smurfing in owl
nothing to analyze its just Decay popping off or "clicking heads" as xQc calls it
A suggestion maybe people can send like replays in, and you can analyze them! That'd be pretty cool and it could really be useful!
Agreed
holy shit that was so smart its like shanghai is playing a turn based strategy game instead of a shooter
ive never seen something that smart in owl ever since the glads vs spitfire bait in kings row
I've been playing since beta and have watched numerous matches as I was a T3 coach and I would spend hours analyzing matches and vods and I've never seen such a great level of strategy but also execution at the same time
I'd love to see an analysis of the blizzard world game between Shock and mayhem. How did the mayhem do so well in that map and what exactly did the shock do wrong?
Hypeeeeeee new episode :D
That was so clean wtf
I like the speed boosted dead eye. keeping mcree safe while he zones anyone without a shield from peaking or dropping
i havent kept up with overwatch league in a long time so the title was super confusing lol, also that was the most big brain strat ive ever seen
Wooow that strategy blew my mind!!! It felt like watching a marvel movie!!!
Nice video !
Could you try to use the heros names more than the players names?
I need to look up all the time because i dont know every member by their names.
ty ^^
This formation was truly beautiful and inescapable
solid divide and conquer strat
I stopped playing overwatch hella long ago but I just like watching these
Damn! Your talking about a 3 way split push to point with cross healing between the groups. I am just happy if i play tank and get any heals from my supports in my games.
Dallas vs Houston on Rialto for sure !
Just watching how Shanghai dismantle soul was amazing! This was serious big brain
Could you do video about Florida Mayhem vs San Frabcisco Shock from May Melee tournament?
I would love to see the last game of the Boston VS Gladiators match, definitely not because I'm a die hard Boston fan :D
There is so much going on I'd never notice.
Heh no sandbagging by the dragons there xD
This is magical
They must of put in hours of hard work do get this smooth attack. And it really paid of
Can u make a video on Fearless’ performance in the finals
Not a specific match, but can you make a video on why certain teams are much better/worse in this season with little to no change in their line ups? SF Shock for ex
These videos are awesome!! Really well done, as always!
Only one thing: Could you use the character names instead of the names of the players? I often have a hard time to follow because I don‘t know all the player names...
Thanks, we've passed this feedback around our team and will keep this in mind moving forward.
Here is a suggestion for a video. The Dallas Fuels attack record on Rialto
This is the best strat I have ever seen in my life
Remember this image were you see 2 giant in armor sitting while looking at some little guy's ?
That's Shangai brain in OWL
Hey here's just a piece of advice for your videos. I love your channel and watch it all the time, but I don't watch OWL games that much. Because of that, I don't really know what heroes a lot of the players play, so when you mention the names of the players I keep having to pause and look for which hero that player is on in order to know who you are talking about and what is going on. Basically what I am suggesting is instead of saying "Fearless" or "Bdosin", instead say "Shanghai's Rein" or "Seoul's Ana". It's just a minor, nitpicky complaint but I think it would make it a lot more convenient for casual viewers like me. Otherwise, I really love your channel and some of the editing and analysis is out of the ballpark impressive.
Nice and true statement. Team names or even the “attacking/defending rein” could also be another option.
Ive been watching some OWL, but i no life watched SC2 and dota 2 esports in the past. U do eventually learn names, but team names are the better option for casuals for sure.
Jonathan Siskind Maybe watch OWL I just picked it up as I started playing OW a couple months ago but it improves your knowledge and not just to know who people main
Thanks for the feedback, we'll look into this when putting together our future videos so that they can be more easily digestible.
Thank you for the feedback!
Akshon Esports agreed. Even saying “fleta playing the defending pharah...” would be helpful. It’s tough to look around and figure out names while the video plays on. Even being familiar with OWL players it’s tough to keep in order since there’s no player names above the character models
anyone else thought the sight on 7:49 is just beautiful? The stratgitic beauty right there coming from 3 angles
This whole video I've been watching fits dying over and over again
Usually my teams on competitive do the 3,2,1 strategy, but it's because each player wants to go a different route and it's tottally uncoordinated and random. Sometimes it works
VOIDs our boy
“Juicy shatter”
3:17
Best play imo
I still have trouble following along even in slow mo lol
3, 2, 1? That's insane coordination
ik they even thought about the footsteps from sigma n stuff in case they needed to back off
Compare this to GOATS last year.... what a great time to be an OWL fan
Imagine the character featured on the logo of the OWL being banned.
So what I learned today is fits does alot
Hopefully this also means more team-coordinated laddder play as well.
Sensational!
Anyone know the Bg music?
Haven't played this since seoul was always number 1 and shanghai didn't win a game for 40 something games. Wild to see what changed
im just getting into esports, why were those champs banned? dosent OW not have a ban/pick phase like LoL or Paladins?
sorry if its a weird question but im just p confused lol?
