The reason that Canyon was discounting my bike was because the frame was a 2022 model and the SRAM groupset as well. These bikes sold very quickly and as of December 2023, only XXL frames were left for about 4000.00 USD. A great deal if the frame will work fir you.
Really good piece, tks. I have a Trek Domane with SRAM Force and I love it for the comfort .but am wondering how much performance I am giving up on fast group rides as I am not so young anymore. Considering another bike for performance. Great tip on Canyon Outlet. Aware that some of the Chinese direct to consumer get very good reviews but I don’t have the energy and need to simplify.
I dont think your giving up much. Im 64 and can still keep up with the kids. That being said, the set-up on the Canyon is very aggressive and the Swiss DT wheelset make a huge difference. I have a friend of whom has a Madone and an old Cannondale. He only takes the Madone out on aggressive weekend rides and his Cannondale on weekly rides.
As of today, the Aeroad CF SLX is still on sale for 4,999.00 but only available in larger sizes, L, XL and 2XL So if you are one of the taller folks out there, this is a very good deal and a fantastic price point.
I don't know if the Aeroad is as stiff as the Endurace, but that is the beauty of Canyon. The bike stays with you. It take turns with you, at your direction. Hard to lose a back wheel unless conditions are really difficult or wet.
I and about 5 other strong female and male riders feel that we are more efficient and consequently faster on this bike. Two of guys had Giant Defys previously.
Great video, just picked this exact bike 10 days ago. Canyon price was $4999 and I thought it was a steal of a deal. This is going to be an alternate ride to my Trek Madone SL7, I feel the Canyon is a bit stiffer than Treck but I really love the Canyon confidence and front end when pushing it hard. Thx, be safe and enjoy your rides. Cheers
I ended up replacing the Selle Italia saddle as it broke me in. I replaced it with a Fizik saddle. I have also had two flats, both front. One was the result of hitting a rock and the other was a bad valve. I have not gone with tubeless at this point. I may however do that in the near future.
I wanted an aero racing bike. I have a number of friends that have both. You cant go wrong with either. Bear in mind that supplies and groupsets are somewhat limited as they produce them in batches. I gotva great deal on mine as it was actually a 2022 model and force groupset. Hope that helps. 😊
No problems with post. Ive had the bike about 4 months and have put over 3 thousand miles on it. Had to have the headset tightened, crankset tightened and the bottom bracket regreased. All not uncommon with a new bike
Killer bike and awesome review! I appreciate you going into so much detail. Any thoughts on the CF SL8 with Ultegra R8000? Thinking this one might be a bit more budget friendly for a first aero bike; but not sure if the extra $1k is worth the investment to get electronic shifting. Thx in advance!
Ultegra is a great groupset. You cant go wrong with it. The only downside is that you cant switch out batteries in the event of a shutdown. With SRAM, you can always carry an extra battery. My bike sent me a low battery warning through my Wahoo. Expecting the the rear, it was my front. No issues for the last 20 miles of the ride. Those of us like myslef got lucky with this bike as the frame and groupset were 2022 and Canyon reduced the price 1000.00. In regards to elec shifting...Oh Yeah..You will want it. Check out my other video on why and what I upgraded from. I think you will find it helpful. Feel free to reach out if I can help you in the future.
I Have 3 friends with the CFR. One of the best things about both the SLX and the CFR are the DT swiss wheels. The CFR has a lighter hub and ceramic bearings. Swith them out and you get the same wheels for 1000.00 USD less. The CFR frame is lighter and the groupset lighter. However, I feel that the SLX is by FAR the best value. If you want a superbike raced by the PRO's, than CFR is for you. However, the deal on the SLX is unbeatable. If it is out of stock or not available on sale, check out the Canyon outlet. Usually 1000.00 off for returned bikes. Hope that helps.
I have the same frame in Green, and yes you can’t find a better bike/components for about 5K. Mine is Ultegra Di2 ( sorry no Sram for me I’m Shimano all the way ). The schwalbe inner tubes are the super light ones so they’re great, tires with the brown rim around really doesn’t bother me but yours looks better. The discounted bikes could be also a fitting return one. I bought a M ( 54 ) frame and after 2 weeks of riding it returned it for a S ( 52 ) frame and now I’m perfectly fine, the bike I returned was in perfect condition but I bet they will sell it at a discounted price. I even have a vid of mine in my Chanel. Great bike ohhh I bough a set of Keo aero carbon pedals and perform fantastic as well. I usually do between 55-66 miles Saturday with this bike and it is a breeze .. fast and responsive. I train in another bike. Good vid 👍 PD: You are missing the plugs on your front axle and the seat post screw I would put them back to avoid water getting in there and potential rusting.
Great 👍 that you are happy with your bike. I ended up replacing the saddle...it was literally killing me. You know I bought a box of rubber plugs, none of them fit ( mine was misplaced at the shop ) . In regards to the axle plug...im lost there..could you explain further..thanks
@@markzebr6463 the front wheel by the end of the fork, the place you place the tool to remove the wheel, there’s a plastic plug that goes there. For the seat post plug, if you already are fitted and you won’t be needing to move the seat up or down get some bee wax or something like that and just plug it in there, the idea is to avoid water etc in there to avoid corrosion. Yes the saddle is a bit uncomfortable Idk why ..
Im 5.8 165lbs and was sized for a small of which is perfect. I am told that Canyon run big. Our club have 6 Canyon aeroad and all went with Canyons recommendations. Hope that helps.
Damn Mark, you definitively post a lot of clips while I was missing 😅😅 This bike looks like something for a connoisseur...so basically it looks amazing 👍😁( I have no technical experience with bikes, sorry)
The wheels are very deep and despite what DT Swiss say, tricky in strong winds. If you are concerned, DT Swiss make an ERC1400/ ERC100 series that have shallower rims and are actually used by most of the Pro teams. The hubs are the same depending on price point. For example, the ARC1400 that I have are 240 hubs. The ERC1400 would be the same. The top end ARC100 have 180 hubs as do the ERC100. Hope that helps.
I dont recall who makes it but, the finish is called" oil slick" and several manufactures make them. Ebay is a good place to find them. They are expensive, 45.00 USD each and, sweat does mar the finish.
@SpotlightGraphics Glad to hear. I had a good friend get quite a deal from the outlet, of which I knew nothing about until he told me. As they have a 30 day guarantee, they do get some returns , correct if they can and resell.
Great vids, Mark. You said your bike came with a 10-32 cassette. Did you special order that? I bought the same model (in blue) and it came with a 10-28. P.S. I love this bike!!
G. That's probably right. The cassette I never really think much about as I have had so many different ones. The 48 big ring did have me concerned but, fuzzy math works and I have no issues keeping up with my betters.
5 foot 8 . The bike is a small. If it's comfortable is a relative question. I have it set up as it came from the box. It is aggressive and left my shoulders and arms sore for about two weeks and I replaced the Sell Italia saddle with a Fizik as the saddle broke me. Now that I have put in almost 1000 miles over 4 weeks, yes it works for me. This is supposed to be the 2023 version, right? So, why the screw isn’t on the top tube? I have just ordered one “simply” because on the cfr it’s positioned on the top tube and I thought it would have been the same on cf slx too…weird 😢
@maurotangari3203 good question. Canyon calls it a 2023 but it comes with SRAMs 2022 Force Groupset. This is probably why they discounted it 1000.00 off retail.
@@markzebr6463 could be, could be. Mine will be an ultegra di2, which is discounted 5% for already two weeks (and it seems many are in stock…). Let’s hope my frame will be the new one.
As an engineer I can say, don’t buy an Aeroad. It’s an engineering shit show. MVDP is saving Canyon big time with his performances because Canyon engineering and quality is just getting worse and worse. Also, I would choose DI2 over Etap every day of the week. @downzero8664 well said. As a rider, i love the Canyon and couldn't give a crap about engineering. The sadle however; is going to have to go as it is killing my crotch.
Just purchased the same bike in black / silver with Zipp 404s. Looking forward to getting it, hopefully ships as quick as yours did.
Gonna love it..Great that your getting the Zipps...Enjoy.
