Bummer thing is that any local bike shop can adjust, add, or remove any component that the factory is installing. It's the frame that should be made anywhere but Taiwan. Especially since it probably only cost $300...JMT
Here is what they say. "We're obsessive when it comes to making the best bikes. That's why we do all our design and engineering at our HQ in Koblenz, Germany." Frames are manufactured in Taiwan. They could just say that. Proudly German. This faculty is not a factory. It's an assembly plant of items made off-shore. Is there one part of their bikes actually made in Germany? I would be more proud to be from Taiwan. That's the truth.
This is also basically all of the bike industry (and many other industries). Almost every carbon bike is Chinese or taiwanese made. All the design and engineering work is still usually by the OEM, but there are very very few OEMs that also manufacture frames in house
I have a Canyon and my pals rib me about this all the time ‘assembled in Germany made in China’. I mean now I realise they’re made in Taiwan that’s better than China lol. They are far too good value to be made in Germany though I think it’s obvious to anyone buying them that they’re not actually manufactured in Germany.
And raw materials are sourced elsewhere, too. You will insist aluminium to be mined in Germany, oil for dues and lubes and rubber to be be drilled in Germany, et cetera? There are no modern things made in one country anymore, so it is crazy to demand this. You need to be a child not to know how stuff is made and how our world is based on the globalized capitalism.
Very cool look behind the scenes! Around 10:30 I saw what looked very similar to my frame in the test bed.. I'll be riding that tomorrow, getting close to 8000 km since Nov 2020. I love my Canyon!
Manufacturing process? Canyon doesn't manufacture any of their frames, it's all OEM from a factory in Asia. All Canyon do is paint and build up the bike in Germany, I hardly call that "manufacturing"
@@mattjns Regardless where they are manufactured, the technology and metallurgy in China is actually very good providing you are not driving the price of raw materials to the ground, as then applies you get what you pay for.

Using the same frame for every test rig was a huge not-so-humble brag haha. Canyon bikes are very good, I have two of them at home right now and I wanted to get a third one now that I'm a little older now and I ride over 40 km every other day in the mountains, so I don't have that much power anymore.😅 in short, everything is fine until something goes wrong with your bike, then problems arise here in Germany. Where I am, 8 out of 10 service stations do not want to receive Canyon bikes because everyone tells me that the wait for spare parts is very long, you can't talk to them on the phone , only via e-mail, you wait for someone to answer you for a day or two, whether you can get a part, or you can't get it, does Canyon accept that amount of cost from the service where you left the bike for repair, so on and so forth, in short horror. For example, I bought a bicycle for my son a few months ago and I sent it to Croatia. A week ago, the hub on the rear wheel of the bicycle broke and now there are problems. Canyon, if you leave it at a local service center, they don't want to pay that cost until they see how much it costs in English or German, does it really matter at all. How much does it cost if something breaks, because Canyon has a six-year warranty. it cost 100 EUR or 150 EUR, it doesn't matter anymore, simply Canyon has to accept that it is so because they don't have their service network in half of Europe, they say that I have to send them bikes to Germany and pay 100 EUR postage because they don't support postage outside of Germany , and they don't have their services in half of Europe.🤷 in short, until they have at least two service centers in every country of the European Union, which take over all the cost of repairs and postage, I will never buy Canyon bikes again, because what they are doing is beyond all logic 🤨
