Tires and wheels can significantly alter the character of a bike. I own a Canyon Aeroad equipped with DT Swiss ARC 1400 wheels (62mm deep), which are simply phenomenal for racing events-these deep aero wheels truly give you the sensation of speed. However, for daily use, I switch to Zipp 303 Firecrest wheels with 28mm tires, and I must say, the Aeroad feels like an entirely different bike. The most noticeable difference lies in the comfort, especially when riding on roads that aren’t in perfect condition. It’s comparable to the comfort of a gravel bike.

I tried 30mm for one ride then changed all my bikes to 30mm ..like going from rim to disc .. I wouldn’t go back to skinny tyres ..faster, more comfortable, lower tyre pressures
Exactly mate, you know the craic 👍
Oh man that was so close to Awesome. But this is like comparing a Lamborghini and a Ferrari but putting snow tires on the Lamborghini.
Throw the Rovels on there and just compare the frames. Please I’m begging you. I’m literally choose in between these two bikes. And I’ll be putting Enve’s on either way.
@@benmiller388 thank you mate. I’ve since sold the Aeroad… agree the wheels were a big factor though…. Still think I’d have swayed towards the SL8 regardless… 😎
@@daveridesagain you just came up in feed. I have no idea about your videos, but really well produced good length. Good job.
I’m on the pinnarello F12 now. The bike with 25s in the bike with 30s is two completely different bikes. In my opinion there’s no such thing as a rough riding road bike with 30s. So it just comes down to snap and top speed and I guess which one you favor more. Did you put both of them into the corners pretty hard? Did they feel the same in the corners?
@@benmiller388 thanks 🙏
Yeah I agree… I ride 30’s on everything here in the UK and no going back…
The tube profiles on the Aeroad will undoubtedly provide less compliance than the SL8, but like you say bigger tyres will negate some of this.. I think the biggest that would fit on this gen Aeroad was 28…
The SL8 is noticeably lighter, it’s more agile and more responsive… The Aeroad was rapid once you got it going… I rode the bikes pretty hard, didn’t really notice any huge difference in cornering….
I don’t race these days and the SL8 is better suited the riding I do…. Horses for courses though… 👍
Price is an important factor here as well.
Definitely faster too. Even for an old diesel like me 😂
Amazing I got a similar cycling channel
Awesome 👍
can’t be sure of your results here Dave mate buy me an sl7 and ill report back with my findings
Sounds like a great plan 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for watching 👍
you may want to use a better way to record your voice.
Specialized make some very good bikes but I could never buy anything from them. They're just a very aggressive, litigious company.
Great video
Thanks!
