$27 vs $400 Vegas Steak Dinner | Vegas Steakhouses - Peter Luger's, Golden Steer & Ellis Island

- Sometimes one needs a break from buffets! And aside from the buffets, Vegas is known for it's amazing steakhouses! From places offering prime rib for $9.99 to steakhouses offering A5 Wagyu where the sky's the limit for the cost of the meal.
Wanting to try Vegas' oldest classic steakhouse, The Golden Steer, I was all set and made my reservations months in advance. But as luck would have it, after ordering a fantastic meal, having it arrive, and just as I was to take the first bite of the appetizers, the power went out... And unfortunately, without power, the restaurant had to close down for the night.
Now, with the appetite primed for amazing steaks, I thought it would be fun to try a variety of steaks in Vegas, from places offering steak dinners focusing on great value to those focusing on luxury and extravagance.
For the steak dinner offering great value, we have the standby favourite, the Village Pub over at Ellis Island offer their full prime rib dinner for $28 with a double cut prime rib, potatoes, soup or salad, and additional sides. An amazing deal as one would expect because they also have the best deal in town (or at least the best deal near the Vegas Strip) for Fish and Chips.
For the luxurious extravagant steak dinner, we have Peter Luger's over at the Caesars offering their famous porterhouse sizzling hot on their iconic searing hot plate drenched in the luscious beef fat at $160. But that's not all as one cannot dine on steak alone... through in some potatoes, some sides, and of course, the onions and tomatoes, and you're looking at a bill around $400.
Which is the winner? Which tastes better? I intend to find out!

Tim, I enjoy watching your restaurant review video. It’s honest and not forced. Some other UA-camrs nitpick and try to find a negative but your reviews are genuine… FYI you can sometimes find open seating at the bar as a walk in at Golden Steer.

you are younger then us seniors if you eat this processed food a long time you will have high blood pressure thr fish wasnt homeade it was frozen as the soup i make p soup and flouder from the store and salmon and other things mash in the box or potato not salty if from produce

I’m a big Ellis island / village pub fan and particularly the prime rib and fish and chips. Most of the time it’s very good, but I’ve also had on rare occasion a “dry” experience with the prime rib and a “soggy” experience with the fish. But 85% of the time it’s really good, just a matter of which chef is working I think.
It's definitely one of my favorites . nothing fancy but very good and the reasonably priced
@@TimLeeLetsGo the “non fanciness” is what makes it good maybe even nostalgic for me. I just saw a video that said Coronado Cafe was even better quality and only $19.99 (but smaller) so I gotta check that out too!
It may be a matter of how busy they are, it only takes a minute delay in serving for the fish to go soggy and 2 for a steak to dry! But the chef could definitely make a difference too!

Golden Steer was def the most expensive dinner we’ve ever had. But we’re in vegas and I still was happy. We were in town for Dead and co at the sphere and loved it.

The steak at Peter Luger's looked amazing! The prime rib looked good too. A nice experience.

Amazingly OVER priced steak at Peter Lugers. $200 for a small porterhouse is laughable.
It is hard to beat Ellis Island's prime rib, house brewed beer, my son loves their smoked pork ribs, my wife swears their fish & chips are the best in Vegas, and their prices extremely affordable. Especially if you get a player's club card and spend at least $5 gambling because then they give you free coupons for 20% off your bill at their restaurant.

It looked delicious. He even said it was good, but then he marked it as a con. I think that had to be a mistake. I still remember Kartoffeln from German class. My head is still filled with German vocabulary even though I never got to speak German after I learned it.

Peter Luger's, in Brooklyn NY, when I had it many times, was the best steak I've ever head - required zero condiments. Heard the place has gone off recently, but probably still amazing.

Another exceptional video Tim. Sorry for your experience at the Golden Steer. Would’ve enjoyed that review. Anyway, the Prime Rib looked great for under $30. That could easily feed my girlfriend and I (we often share meals). Please be considerate of those around you with regards to that Fish n Chips. Reheated seafood really smells bad. Take it from someone who worked in an office for 25 years. We eventually had to make a rule for our office kitchen! 😂
Enjoyed seeing your Peter Lugers experience. I’ve been to the original Williamsburg Brooklyn location a few times. Ultimately I find the price to be about 30% too high for what you get. There are certainly better (and cheaper) steaks throughout NYC at this point. Looking forward to the next review!

Try the cornerstone at the gold coast we have at least one meal there every trip to Vegas. I have never been disappointed at Elis island. Yes fish and chips there are very good😂

@@pebblesredjackson it’s $18 for a quarter of an onion and tomato. With nothing on it. It literally took a prep cook less than 30 seconds to plate it.
@@bw2082. It’s definitely a rip off for $18 but a fresh tomato and onion salad with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic with chopped oregano and salt and pepper is to die for, for me anyway.

I’ll have to try the Ellis Island, fish and chips, soup and prime rib. I did try their ribs. They’re OK! When we go to a steakhouse, we usually go to Carve Prime Rib in the Cannery Casino. You might want to check that place out. I usually order filet mignon. We love it!

While I love a porterhouse, I'm surprised you chose that over a rib steak (for $30 more) at Peter Luger's. From the looks of it, it's an decent med-rare on the NY side, but the filet side is clearly medium. Also, at $18 for broccoli... what was it that you didn't like?!?!
It was a debate between the rib steak versus the porterhouse, but it seems Peter Luger's is known for their porterhouse and it didn't disappoint. It was mainly the price that I did not like about the broccoli... I could have done without it, but my friend disagreed 😉😆
@@TimLeeLetsGo When a side of veggies or potatoes cost $18-$24 a plate, I agree it's overpriced. I guess all this means you need to re-visit later this year and get the rib steak, and other sides you didn't order this time around (shrimp cocktail?).

Ellis island pub is awesome. The French onion soup and fish and chips are scrumptious. We shared the fish and chips between three people! The best in Vegas! Will go back for the prime rib! But I just might have to get the soup and fish and chips again! Food is fabulous and affordable.

I remember going to a late-night dinner at Ellis Island with a couple local friends 15-ish years ago. The steak meal at the time wasn't a prime rib, I believe it was the top sirloin. It included a baked potato, green beans, AND a pint of beer. The price was I think $8, unbelievably cheap even 15 years ago. The steak was pretty good too!

Thanks to Yelp for their ratings and now the other places I think are just overrated. Ramsey's fish and chips? I'll just buy the frozen ones. 😁

We have eaten at Ellis Island on very visit. Wife and I usually share a meal sine our lap bands. Once 1 of the 3 pieces 9f fish was over cooked, and our server took that piece back to replace, and I stead brought out 3 more pieces. Both steak and prime rib dinners have been very good, not top end steakhouse quality of cuts and aging, but good value meals. We have also split a biscuits and gravy for breakfast and again good value food.
Yes, French Onion soup can be salty, thats true no matter where we've eaten. Since I don't add salt to almost anything I cook, or about half of what a recipe calls for, anything in a restaurant that has salt, can taste over salted at times.

You should try The Steak House at Circus Circus. Very good. They age their own steaks. Meal comes with all the sides. A true hidden gem. Been going for 2o years and have never beed disappointed

Wow Vegas…I grew up there! Sorry to hear about the power outage that happened when you were at the Golden Steer, that was definitely a bummer! If you happen to drop by Vegas ever again😅😅, do try the Michael, which is located inside of the South Point Hotel and Casino. But if you ask me who has the best tasting steak, ribeye especially…I will say the way I make ribeyes is the best😅😅😂😂! Happy travels!

Was the food free since the power went out?
For those who finish their meals before they were asked to leave, they had to pay for the meals manually with the old school mechanal credit card machines. I didn't get a bill as I was asked to leave before getting a chance to try/finish anything.
Everybody kept raving about the fish and chips at Ellis Island and when I went there and got it, it was soggy then as well.

Been to the 2 Peter Lugar’s in New York a few times. Was never disappointed! Next time for dessert, try the cheese cake. Delicious!
Peter Lugar's steak was definitely an undercooked rare, not medium rare, but still good for me, and most who order medium rare. I do wish you had ordered the baked potato as I've seen 3 reviews of this restaurant now, and no Baked spud? I'd love to see what they include with the baked potato. Anyway, for a once a year splurge Peter Lugar's looks to be the ticket, and not just for the food but for the ambiance, and service. Most of the year I'd be eating at Ellis Island as that prime rib looked delectable for $27 bucks!👍😎✌🗽

Ellis Island is my go to. Great value and great taste. I did the Golden Wteer years ago and it was good but massively overpriced. Also did the steakhouse in the plaza (owned by the former mayor) and it wqs also excellent with far more reasonable prices.

I grow my own onions & tomatoes, definitely wouldn't buy that dish as I want a beautiful heirloom picked right time day. Sad you didn't get to finish at Golden Steer. I'm debating on dining there my next trip. Hope you get the opportunity to visit again.

The fish size is 👀 great . The primer rid cutis nice a lot of meat,it was plated right.veg potato, the prime rid ,has been cooked and seasoned right,with understanding heart love .
