      The Enterprise of Star Trek happened to be 'Constitution Class' in the tech manual, which made it into canon, by bits. (there was a USS Constitution, NCC 1700) The shuttle Enterprise was actually originally going to be the Columbia, I think, since the original Constitution from the War of 1812 was still technically actively commissioned. (I could be mistaken, there. )
      Anyway, I think Star Trek lore basically had the shuttle fleet names being 'Traditional Earth Ship Names' *because* they were the first enduring spaceships. One would expect more names from the other founding Federation members but their own 'navies' were probably still using most of those all along, like a 'Kumari' or a 'Surak' or a 'T'Planahath.' Basically, Earth Starfleet seems to have been entirely fused with the Federation Starfleet and then the other members contributed crews and tech to *that,* but kept their own navies/exploration agencies, as well. (I'm guessing that's part of why you see so many Earth names, and English ones at that, and fewer aliens or alien-crewed ships. :))

The real ship is interesting to read about, especially with it having been launched three times, it is a stubborn ship that doesn't want to die (hence the nickname OLD IRONSIDES). The US Navy tried to decommission the her twice, but finally gave up and bought a forrest of white oak to keep her seaworthy. The last time she sailed under her own power was on her 200th birthday. The Buran class ship would've made a better looking option than the Curiosity class in the final episode of Picard season 1.
    Maybe streamline the primary hull a bit, giving it a arrow shape, but keeping the engine layout.
    It gives the impression of power and *speed,* which would explain why it was the only StarFleet ships that could get there in time.
    And being a pure combat ship it could be in far less numbers but still outmatch the Romulan fleet (which may well be not high powered capital ships … the Romulan Empire not having any shipyards for over 20 years).
    A fleet of a dozen (or even less) turn up, but they outgun the hundred old Romulan Corvettes/Frigates that are there.
    The Curiosity class were just so derivative I couldn't pick them out in a line up, and I suspect many fans couldn't either.

I would like it if you would take your skill of research and your passion for Star Trek, to fine out something I have wondered for a while. THE EIGHT MAIN CREW of TOS, how many episodes did each character appear in? and how has the lest appearances? and if you wish who replaced them in their position on the ship. I know that it is a large job and many would not take it on. You are a very insightful person and many have the still to research this BUT no one can do it in the unique manner that you could.

The Soviets had a way of squirrelling away spares of all sorts of tech over the years and then forgetting where they left them after the break up, for instance RD 180s which the US brought about 30 or so of them to use in the last couple of years and apparently they found a warehouse with a load of Buran spare bits. Would be great as Russian Rockets and gear tends to be a lot more efficient than US ones. Scott Manley did a bit on the RDs ua-cam.com/video/oGr1UVNBDLs/v-deo.html

    Someone please explain to me where the Klingons in STD got the money to build Cleaver ships that make Federation starships look like children's toys? The Klingon Empire has always been financially weaker than the Federation.

    • @daverapp
      @daverapp 4 роки тому

      Slave labor? Supposedly the Klingons subjugate other races rather then cooperate with them like the Federation. As do the Romulans. It's what makes both of them Empires.

    • @deusexaethera
      @deusexaethera 4 роки тому

      @@daverapp: Subjugation costs a lot of time and effort, though, which can't be dedicated to other more productive tasks. And slaves are almost always unskilled labor. Imperialism is really only useful for securing inexpensive raw materials, not skilled laborers or massive economic growth. That's why nations on Earth mostly got out of Imperialism in the modern age, when direct control of raw materials was no longer a key factor of national strength. Not to mention enormous ships require enormous fuel supplies; Star Trek hasn't broken that law of physics, yet. Then again, STD features a form of space travel so absurd that they even make fun of it themselves, so maybe they've bestowed upon the Klingons a way to move enormous starships by having everyone onboard push _really hard_ against the forward bulkheads while yelling loudly, or something.

    This video doesn't do the original Buran justice. It was much more advanced than the American space shuttle. The Buran actually could propel itself independently of attachable fuel tanks/boosters, and it had crew evacuation equipment - unlike American space shuttle. But fate is cruel b@tch, so the dissolution of the Soviet Union buried all hopes for a long and successful program.
    Also, in Russian word "Buran" doesn't just mean "snow storm". It conveys speed and power of a blizzard (we're speaking _Russian blizzard_ here, so go figure). The original ship was white. Hence the name.
