We know hes a fraud already, you dont gotta keep bodying bro like that 😭
Bet show them that kat a fraud
Pls dont hurt my bro
Katakuri: Nah I'd win
@TamCake😂😂 now that funny
I mean literally dressrosa had the same kind of implications with dofi and viola she absolutely hated him and yet he makes implications of their "relationship" it's clear what he's implying, honestly I'd be worried what oda would do with a seinen if he's doing this with one piece.
One Piece is the like if you wrapped the world building of Berserk in a cover of rubber hose 1920s mickey mouse cartoons
Doffy the grapist lmao
Doffy did nothing wrong free my brother🗣️🗣️🗣️
@@Interlink. Viola was wearing purple so checks out
I will not say rape, but I will say that she entered into a relationship with him to make him trust her, since she was claiming that she was from the Doflamingo family, and all of that matter at the beginning of the arc.
Wano was some of the darkest material ever in One Piece it had everything slavery, genocide, suicide, sex trafficking.
Fr
sex trafficking during wano? when?
@@theultimateliaromakokichi638 Hoyori in her introduction is referenced as “Wanos #1 Prostitute” also they had brothels there.
@@theultimateliaromakokichi638 Oh let me tell you, first and foremost, Orochi's -concubines- geisha. Queen also traffics women, black Maria does something of the sort as well.
that was a wrong translation, she is a actor some actors do sex for business irl but no everyone is a prostitute.@@DripJambe
The overall tone of the series might be happier and hopeful, but it all happens in a dark world. For the most part the darkness lies in the background and subtext, but Oda still knows when to bring the darkness to the foreground.
I think that the overall message of One Piece is to keep pursuing your dreams in spite of all problems and difficulties.
I mean easily but people keep crying about happy times...I'm like just tell the story and don't hold back
Did we all forget what the "celestial" dragons did to Boa and her sisters?
not me
Slight correction, God Valley wasn’t just a slave hunting contest, it was the annexation of that nations land, the slaughtering of all the native people of that island AND a hunt for some additional troublesome slaves. Very dark. But this may be a cold take, but I’ve always seen One Piece as a story of a dystopian very dark world scene from the perspective of an unwavering optimist - Luffy.
When we were introduced to the Celestial Dragons, we always knew this would be the end result, we just weren't sure if Oda would ever show it this directly. I always believed the One Piece world without Luffy is a dark place, full of evil and without hope. The only reason we believe it is light and happy is because we follow the adventures of Luffy, who brings joy...and light...to the fore front.
Both Boa and Viola have implications of being a victim, however, this is the first time we explored that idea this far. Didn’t expect him to go this far at all. Oda always be makin me cry so much 😭
Lots of "implications" for those two, here with Ginny it straight up slaps you in the face with what happened and dares you to guess something different.
The downfall of the celestial dragons is gonna be satisfying

I just peeped, so now we know both of the races not in big moms crew: Lunarians and Buccaneers or King and Kuma
but it was giants that were missing
Oda uses comedy to deflect how dark one piece always been
First time I actually internalized how dark One Piece is was as early as Namis flashback in Arlong Park
I actually how Oda delivers it. Instead of all dark, he ensures that we got that bit of light, only for when it gut punches you even stronger when the tragedy strikes again
I think oda was showing us hints of how dark it can get while also keeping us in the lense of luffys pov now that were in the final saga i could see things getting darker which could be perfect timing for the sun god to shine
Oda did a masterful job of balancing its dark themes and colorful tone and world Oda said that he never wanted to make one piece too dark and I think because it’s more financial better and his main audience being young teenage boys but it now it seems Oda don’t give a F no more 💀
Not really, even the more dark elements come off as goofy and not serious because of the art style and character reactions
@@dream1430 untrue there's this special thing called "contrast" and it works well if you know what you're doing
That's why you can have an animated movie covering death and enjoying the most of life through the eyes of a talking cat wearing comically large boots
@@dream1430well yeah, it's a perfect balance
Oda can talk and show pretty dark stuffs such as racism, slavery, etc without shocking his younger readers due to his art style
It's because people had to complain about Oda not killing off characters and forgiving people's backstories on the SBS, I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY YOU BRATS!!!
@@dream1430for you maybe, for millions of other readers, no. Many people can recognise the strong dark tones, slavery, murder, corrupt government bodies. People who just look at the art style and dismiss it are judging a book by its cover. Something we’ve been told not to do since we were children.
Fake fans: One Piece finally getting dark
One Piece: Big Mom cannibalized orphans, Law hid under corpses of people he once knew just so he wont get caught and killed, Oden being boiled alive, Robin running for her life since the age of 8, Nami sees her adopted mother get shot in the head at point blank range (this is in the manga, the anime censored it)
Me: Sureeee only NOW One Piece is getting dark -_-
Think also because the anime changed things, Chef Zeff Ramsey eating his own leg...i think that was the earliest instances of the show going dark. Also mihawk commiting mass murder.
No it's always been dark. I knew as a kid this stuff was going to get crazy it just took me till the war in Alabasta to see it. Like I knew we were going to get bad guys like Arlong or Crocodile trying to destroy a town or hunt down our crew like in whiskey peak. However once I saw the soldiers and the rebels fight in the anime, how they lost their minds after Pell's quote "death" I knew something was wrong. Yet here I am hoping with all hope that this story doesn't break me just like those soldiers and rebels
Oda is masterful in hiding the truly dark and depressing nature of his world with this colorful and joyful looking aesthetic and showcasing the world through the eyes of one Monkey D. Luffy. Anyone who underestimates One Piece and decides to consume it will learn this multiple times.
One Piece kinda has that Kirby final boss effect. All the goofy shit disarms you and makes that makes the dark stuff a whiplash and hit harder
nice way of explaining it
it has been established 500+ chapters prior that these things happens, it's just the first time it happens to a character we care about.
I always knew how dark one piece was i just still could never take it serious bc of the art style but thats just me
That's the whole point dummy
I think that’s the genius of the series. It can be a goofy show for kids or extremely mature if you read between the lines
@@Jaywav18 I think u on to sum bruh I never thought about it like that
Government coup (Alabasta & Wano), tyrannical government (main theme) , colonisation (Skypiea), genocide (Ohara), outsourcing force from group of criminal as their proxy (Shichibukai), Weapon monopoly (Enies Lobby), Censorship/Manufacturing information and history for propaganda (main theme), slavery (main theme), racism (Fishman), child and drug trafficking (punk hazard), cartel who control certain area (dressrosa). Even since the first saga, Oda explicitly write about the corruption of the law enforcement. Yeah one piece is whacky for the package but it had dark twisted themes for the storyline. Looks like the anti thesis of berserk, a story with explicit violence, unapologetic, twisted dark world with subtle hopes and goals in it. While one piece is cheerful, hopeful, chasing your dream story as the presentation with hidden dark and twisted theme inside it
When it was implied Vasco wanted to grape Boa before Devon (wanted to) kill and decapitate her had me like 😦
Blackbeard pirates the most devious mfs🗣️🗣️

@@RestlessGamblrr chapter 1059. Blackbeard invades Amazon Lily, Devon says “what a gorgeous face, her head will make a wonderful trophy after I wring her neck!” While Vasco says “Doncha think we could…have more fun with her if she was still alive?” Blackbeard says “You can have your way with her after we take her powers.”
So Blackbeard was going to steal Boa’s powers (before or after, it’s iffy how he does this), then let Vasco (and possibly more crew members given it’s plural) go full Lady Snowblood on her, and then Devon was going to strangle her to death and decapitate her when it was done.
All that in one panel crammed to the top of the page.
Yes, it’s been dark since Nami’s past, and extremely dark since Sabaody.
I mean obviously One piece has been dark I mean in Sabaody there's A LITERAL SLAVE AUCTION in a building called the HUMAN SHOP , and in the same arc Doflamingo said that human trafficking is a thing of the past and its the time of 'smiles', so not only was Doffy involved in human trafficking, he also was the cause of the smile fruits, which are already dark ASF.
Glad you're back bro 🙏
I been waiting forever for you to drop a new one piece vid
great video as usual
Lets go gambler im so glad u got ur stuff back
It's heavily implied that Boa and her sisters were Ginny'd, Oda implies the same for Viola in the SBS, and there's a panel where Teenage Robin says something along the lines of "I'll do anything" which implies she was also involved in some action. Oda needs to chill
Bonnie's existance removes the implied part and pretty much CONFIRMS that what we think happened, did in fact happen to Ginny. Unless Oda pulls a UNO reverse and Kuma is the dad, this is as dark as it has gotten in regards to SA in One Piece.
Lots of "implications" for them, here with Ginny it straight up slaps you in the face with what happened and dares you to guess something different.
Yea they are just implications but it still shows that Oda had these ideas in the story before, just tuned down. Needless to say, Oda is cooking with this flashback
Saying they were 'Ginny'd' sounds like a sick inside joke between the Celestial Dragons. How are we supposed to talk about serious subjects if we're just going to tiptoe and censor them?
One piece chapter 591, Boa thinks she is married to luffy because they hugged, elder Nyon told her that is not how marriage works and is a difficult question to answer, if Boa was grape why is she so innocent and clueless when it comes to these things, I guess Oda meant for us to imply the Boa sisters got grape but none of them were pregnant even though there were there for 4 years, unlike Ginny they weren’t “wives”, it’s a stretch but perhaps the celestial inbreads likes to watch cute girls fight hence why there were given df and were traumatized by the bloodshed they face during childhood. Man why did Oda had to write about imply child grape but if he let us speculate I don’t want to agree with most people saying she was grape because it’s not confirm so I rather speculate a less disturbing scenario because there are some plot holes that would make no sense if Boa was grape. What you think?
One piece even has the Netflix documentary killings covered with life insurance fraud. Kuro was literally murdering for that insurance.
Seeing my goat sanji getting eye diffed by Saturn was the darkest moment in OP for me😔
Ey normally that blows up heads bro my boy got a little headache and still wanted smoke
lol
The way the celestial dragons were portrayed way back in Sabaody I think it was safe to assume that the slavery presented implied all the nastiness that could come with this system. People that are shocked that rape was implied must have been delusional. There’s no limits to the depravity of the World Government no matter what the tone of the story is.
“Has one piece always been this dark?”
Me: Looks back on the cases of slavery, racism, genocide, cannabisalism, sexual assault, drug abuse, child abuse, extended torture and exploitation.
Also me: Yeah pretty much
I like how the video answers it’s about own title in the first 3s
Same in this chapter. Saying Ginny got kidnapped to get "married" is Oda putting the tone down. In the Sabaody arc, Charlos saw a nurse and decided to marry her as his 13th wife or something. But then he discarded his wives number 1 through 5 because he got "tired" of them.
Anyone who sees that scene the first time would just assume his first 5 wives got too old so he decided to throw them away. That's until you realize that Charlos was only 22 years old. So his wives must be pretty young too. Saying he got tired of them sends a whole new meaning.
Banger video. I think it would have hit harder for you to bring up the Viola situation on dressrosa with doffy and the SBS about their relationship instead of kuina falling down the stairs. I thought the whole “its a euphemism for her killing herself” was disproved a while ago
it was never disproved an can't be cause it can just be lie told to zoro since he was a child. (same thing happens irl)
@@sarthakarora3212 i guess ur right. I was referring to the idea that people used to spread that in japan, fell down the stairs means suicide. I think it started on reddit
Yo you back bro
Nothing has changed, One Piece was always darker than most Shounen; it's just never been edgy like others and doesn't use it's dark themes for shock value.
The football memes at the end is a funny touch 🤣
How are people just now thinking one piece is just getting dark especially with how wano is almost over in the anime and that arc is has a lot of extremely dark stuff in it.
One piece has always been dark but they way oda went into detail with Kuma and Ginny was definitely worse than any other back story
It’s usually dark happy dark but with Kuma it was his entire life from dark to a glimmer of hope to dark to a little more hope to extreme darkness for the rest of his life being back to a mindless slave forever
Everyone else gets better and can live Kuma can’t and will never get life again(unless they put his memories in a clone of some sort)
Brah this is still next level
W vid dad luv can u make more jjk vids i like them ok luv u luv u❤❤
Arlong park was enough to convince that OP has a dark side
Honestly, I like how One Piece is becoming a bit darker with every new arc since the timeskip
I have to say, I didn't expect to see orbital bombarment in this series
Omds I haven't watched a video from you for a long time dawg
One Piece was always throwing haymakers but pulled every single punch it could pull, it starts throwing a little harder and now everyone’s like “damn this is dark!”
I fully expected things to get darker when entering the final saga for OP but it's true OP always had dark things in it.
How much darker tho ? I don't think we can go deeper from here.
Boa and her sisters gotta be top of the list all three are literal CSA survivors, like it’s not stated but it’s implied so heavily that it might as well be, and her falling for Luffy because he’s the only guy that doesn’t pop a boner around her is played for laughs constantly but it’s an actual trauma response from real life CSA survivors they can’t be in health sexual relationships as adults because of their trauma so seek out asexual partners
Nah just thinking about brooks backstory made me shed tears all over again
I like when one piece has some more darker moment that you don't noticed until another read-through. An example I can think of was how Rayleigh and hatchan meet. Hatchan describes saving him when he's at sea but going off how an older rayleigh was able to swim from the sabaody archipelago to Amazon Lily with no problem, was probably around rodger's strength in his prime, and also how this happened not that long after rodgers death gives their encounter a darker meaning.
One Piece is always dark from the beginning. It's just that the early generation was not ready for the bloody theme, so they had to tone it down in anime. (ex: zeff eating his own leg)
Now that the audience is more used to dark theme, there's no need to tone it down anymore
Couldn’t imagine how dark OP would be if it was a seinen and had HxH’s tone setting
💀
Can you please do kuma vs katakuri video
You can always count on the restless gambler for having the best takes
The way kumas dad died was so tragic it was hilarious
To this day Big Mom having eaten all of them is something that I still can't wrap my head around or get completely. I still can't process it as reality and yet what keeps me form living in a delusion is simply the fact she has that Devil Fruit.
That undeniable factor is what keeps me from being able to convince myself otherwise despite how much I avoid the thought. It honestly scares me thinking of what happened and how fast or the reactions and I certainly would be evasive of any Fan-art or fanfics depicting such events.
to answer the title, yes
Part of the thing is that we've known since Sabaody that the Celestial Dragons do this sort of thing. We just now are seeing it happen to someone we are actually acquainted with
I've always known the world of One Piece was dark but only after Luffy's revelation as Nika did I realize how dark it is. The darkness of the world is hidden by the light that we were following all this time.
The Celestial Dragon's game at God Valley wasn't solely a slave hunting competition, they were just additional points added into the game for fun. It was primarily a full on native cleansing competition intended to genocide every single person living on that island.
the goat
Jackpot video
Butt the thing is, what happened at god valley wasnt a troublesome slave hunting competititon, it was a whole island human eradication competition with some slaves thrown into the mix... which is so much worse and adds to the topic of the video
Well, the tone of One Piece is indeed happy, but the themes...
Corrupted government, slavery, beyond bad nobles, racism and fascism, pirates bringing havoc and suffering to the world (remember, Straw Hats is still a minority type of pirates - the good ones). And there is also a lot of human experiments, like children from Punk Hazard, or people of Wano, who was basically fed with drugs and chemicals for the sake of "science". So yeah, OP was always dark.
(Kuma got Peter Parker treatment from his writer. My man can't even catch a break from suffering 😢)
daily videos? Holy Shit. Never stop cooking 🔥🐐
my nigga's back 🦅🦅🔥🔥
Nah u wildin😂😂
Ooof.
Yeah like the Smile Reveal that shit was dark every single time and even how it affected Killer and such is what made it that thing that never faded away.
Kuina is Vague.
Going past that however.
The Light Tone that fades into the Darkness...
Brook's Past.
I think One Piece always has darkness the point is when there is a flashback. Something that is in the past. Something that can't be changed.
The Darkness is easier to spread.
When the heroes are winning in the Present they have the Light brought onto them by that.
But they can't change that darkness from the past from existing it's what brought everyone here and the light is what the world is waiting for.
Another banger from hakari I mean restless Gambler

Guys, why in a world where starvation, torture , death and genocide is everywhere ,sexual assault is the one thing that make you say woa things got too dark? You forgot Law , Brook and Robin? Just because its rare for a shounen doesn't mean its darker as a concept. People seem to ignore the real tragedy of Ginny and Kuma. They were born into slavery under the worst slave masters possible , got their freedom only to become their slaves again. Beyond tragic.
I blame the world government for literally everything dark that happens in one piece
This is why I like One Piece
Shizz been dark since Arlong Park
Bro just look at Big Moms entire Character
or robins up intill she became a straw hat
Can wait for them to animate that one marine who's head exploded after looking at Saturn. Good stuff TOEI
One piece sometimes be like: YEAH LUFFY YOU'LL BE KING OF THE PIRATES BEST FRIENDS FOREVER
Then randomly: War, Genocide, Slavery, Corruption, Racism.
When I read the chapter, it made me a fan again. I didn't think oda will go this far and I'm still recovering from this chapter
What? Wdym you were a fan again?
Kumas back story is magnificent
Yes
Nami literally saw her mother get shot in the head right in front of her then had to risk her life day after day to save her village.
Arlongs righteous anger is derived from the racism that Fishman have to face
Zeff at his own leg to save Sanji from starvation and was ready to die and pass on his dream to Sanji.
These are just a few of many examples. Shit’s been dark since day one
Zeff eating his own leg
Now that we know how Oda implicates themes in the One Piece story, I can say Kuina dying from falling down some stairs makes way too much sense now. Kuina's dad or one of her sparring partners wanting to kill her could work, but it is way more likely that Kuina committed suicide over the pressure of both wanting to be Zoro's rival and constantly self-shaming about being a swordswoman instead of a man because of her dad's ideals. Oda might just keep it as just Kuina accidentally falling down some stairs because it preserves the theme of life just being cruel for the sake of being cruel.
I kinda hate the whole 'Kuinna s*icide' theory.
I personally believe it will undermiend Zoro's small pep talk beforehand and made it seems she regressed back 180⁰ that night.
It's more potent for me that Kuina dies from accident. As it showcase how fate can be cruel sometimes. Kuina prob has calmed down that night and even more determined than ever. . . . .
. . . only for fate to say otherwise
I totally agree, I think her dying from a simple accident shows how fragile and unfair life is.😢
It actually makes sense though because oda stays away from shonen tropes, no huge power ups from tragedy, krillen dies, goku goes super sayain. Ace dies, luffy has a mental breakdown. One talk no jitsu, naruto powers up, one speech from zoro, and like the real world that may not have enough of an affect, and down D stairs you go.
I have to disagree with some of what you said. I do agree that Oda was very tactical in how he portrayed this subject matter, so that it can still appeal to younger audiences, and I agree that the story has always been dark, like O’Hara. But I would have to say that the Ginny incident here is the darkest we’ve seen. I think the HXH comparison was not accurate, the Ginny situation is much darker. In general, I think if you want to imagine what is darker, put yourself in this situation. (This is hypothetical so do so at your own risk) but what would you rather happen to you or your loved ones, that’s why I think the Ginny situation is the absolute worst, I’d rather go through the mental turmoil that Brook did for so long rather than go through what Ginny did for 2 years. I’d say a better comparison is probably Casca and Griffith in Berserk. This is the difference between the two authors, as Oda had to be tactical with his portrayal of that subject. In Berserk, there’s no limits to what’s dark in the story, but since these are equally as bad, as they are the same deplorable situations, they’re more comparable. (Although I’d still argue that One Piece made Ginny go through worse, only because of her longevity as a slave and the fact that she never got to even experience that act in love like Casca did with Guts. Although Cascas situation was still horrible because she also had the man she loved watching. So yeah it’s both horrible but both authors are unique in the way they portrayed it.)
Yes it was.
If you want to go darker, this made me wonder if Boa ever bore a child while being imprisoned at Mary Geoise Unlikely, it just came to mind. But realistically speaking very possible.
She was pretty prepubescent so I doubt it

Having slaves by default made it dark.
I mean they would know if they read the manga its literally in black and white
I mean just look at Arlong he killed a mother in front of her kids I mean. That's pretty dark to me
kuma really got cucked blocked and still took care oh bonney SMH
One of the main reason why One Piece doesn't seem dark is definitely because of Luffy the Joyboy himself.
Luffy grew up in a harsh environment knowing how messed up the world is, yet he always wears a smile and brings joy to everyone he meets
