Hi, Catherine! I have a tiny suggestion for you, if by chance she's still contemplating the doors, and you haven't moved on to complete more of them the same way yet. If you glue a piece of laminate/mdf/particle board over the entire face of the door front and then cut 4 strips of 6.35 or 8.89cm wide rails and stiles (my USA brain at work here. Shaker rails and stiles are usually either 2.5in or 3.5in wide here haha). Then glue and brad nail the rails and stiles to the outside border of the door. That would cover the grooves and give the shaker style door front that she may be looking for??? The rails should be cut to fit on the inside of the stiles, but they should all be the same width strip. Then you can caulk the inside of the four strips to make a seamless transition between the flat front and the raised border of rails and stiles before you paint.. I hope that makes sense the way I've tried to explain. I do love the color, and that is a great suggestion to live with the color for a few days to get used to the way light plays in the space. ✌️💙
Or ... for simplicity sake, flip the doors around like she suggested and cut rails and stiles and glue to the outside border of the doors. Caulk and paint. That would actually cost less than gluing a flat piece to the front first and take less time. Hope I'm making sense here.
Thanks so much for taking the time out to give this suggestion. I don’t have the tools or the time to do all of those wood cuts to get the project done in time for Christmas ❤️
In the U.S., we're seeing "maker spaces" pop up over the last few years. After signing a release, you can pay a monthly fee to access all manner of tools in a workshop. Not sure what they're called in other places, but it seems pretty cool!
i love how it came out♡ ah nothing like a new power tool to get the creative juices flowin.... that back view of the kitties eating was everything! truly
Catherine, your niece and nephew are not the only ones who watch all your videos I love your videos and you remind so much of my beloved niece (without the accent of course).
How cute are the kitties. When they were feeding you could see the difference inside. Nice to hear the birds singing. I think the door looks good my master crafter 😊😊😊
I really hope she likes it. I made the suggestion of covering with MDF and you are doing a fabulous job! I shall be held responsible if she doesn’t like it Catherine 🙈🤣 🤞🤞 can’t wait to see the end result.
That product to fill in cracks or dings on a piece of furniture is probably Bondo, great stuff. There is Bondo for repairing cars too. The door looks fabulous.
For your chimney I'd recommend a 'chimney sheep' - it's basically a bung made of wool you put up your chimney that prevents your pets going up it. We had to get one last year when our cat was a super-curious kitten.
You did a beautiful job. Good thinking. I really like the cabinet door and it will be an economical solution. Cutting/work table: My husband made a removeable table top for the same saw horses you have. Top surface: 1/2 to 3/4 inch plywood (he used a finish grade). Cut to whatever size you need. On the under side make a rectangle box to fit the top of your saw horse stand (snuggly) so it doesn't move, out of scrap 2x3/ etc. Screw or brad nail the rectangle. It should fit perfect and not move while you work or cut. When finished remove top and store upright with sawhorse legs. (until he built this I was the wood holder) ha ha
What a load of work, even when you are not well, and in between your normal job, you are smiling when you are making the doors, hopes she likes them.Take a little me time and enjoy the holidays with your two lovely cats 🌲🐈🌲🐈
cabinet door looked lovely, i'd really like to change mine but too nervous to start lol. Haha chimney and cats - bless him..he was checking santa could fit down :D
Those doors look so good. Exploring kitties are bound to find mischief. My cats aren't kittens anymore but they still find mischief whenever they get bored.
Both are routers Catherine internet and your wood working tool 😊 PS You are such a great aunt. Those kids are blessed. Im over here trying to watch #black furbaby watching #white paint dry😂 Then watch the #white baby turn his paws #black 🤣 Since cats dislike baths maybe that would teach the 2 mischievous kids to stay out of being chimmney sweeps🤭🤭🤭 Too much fun watching those but your job is so beautiful on that door. The winter crud is every where nurse in me is wondering if it is going to have its heyday with everyone having a full on holiday season since 2020. Colds will have to just deal. We people have to live life! Covid messed up people mentally in ways we will see for years to come. Humans need to be interacting with their world. It’s what makes us human. Ive been sick over in the US, friends in Oz are sick and family in Portugal are sick too. This too shall pass.
There are hen sheds (female version of men's sheds). I am a co-founder of the second hen shed in Ireland. But we don't have a workshop sadly. Any carpenters workshops around you Katherine? They might be able to help you. I see on american yt channels they have access to huge workshops that will flatten slabs, cut things to size etc. Wish we had some here.
In Toronto, we have the Toronto Tool Library, where you can borrow tools, but also use the space to make whatever it is you're wanting to make, and they usually have an expert around if you need a hand. They also teach classes - everything from woodworking to 3D printing and the like (or at least they did, lol).
There are places like that where you can use woodworking machines here in Canada. If you bought a router you need a router table. Most are smaller than the center of your kitchen table. Also, if you want to cut straight lines you need a straight cutting jig for each of your cutting tools. Find a piece of wood that has a straight factory edge on it. Screw it down to a piece of 1/8” thin board - just backer board or what we call hard board here in Canada. Clamp this down securely on your sawhorses and cut off the hardboard using the tool you are making the jig for. For example use your jig saw to cut away the backer board by guiding it up tight against straight edge that you screwed down earlier. Now all you have to do to cut a straight line is to clamp your jig with the cut edge that you just cut off right at you line you want to cut on. Now you have a atraight guide to cut with your jig saw. I will find better instructions and send you a link. I have a 4’ length of cutting jigs for all my saws and my router. You will always cut as straight a line as your cutting jig is. So it pays to do an excellent job.
The transformation of the door is amazing. I would of never thought to put a piece over the existing door. I like the finished result. ❤ Thank You for sharing another make over alternative.
Hi, hope nanny likes the new door, she has a lovely eat in kitchen now and that parts finished in the for Christmas. Wishing you and your furbabies a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. ❤
It is coming along nicely. I hope you are feeling better. Yes projects take a long time sometimes, I am living in the old fixer upper house I bought in 2021, it especially takes longer when living in a house and doing it all yourself and paying for it as you go plus gardening but I'm thankful I live in Florida where the weather is not too extreme, it's usually not colder than 20F (-7C) nor hotter than 105F (40C) so we can garden all year here with the help of some hoops and frost blankets. Happy Holidays!
Oh some of our Libraries have a separate building that you can check out some garden tools and power tools like you do a book. It's pretty cool. It would be pretty awesome if more places did this. ❤
Good job on the door! I laughed out loud when you showed Ban after he climbed up the chimney! What a rascal 😍 My cat did that too, but he's a tabby, so the soot didn't look as dramatic! X
"Router" is the same sound for both the tool and the internet box in Canada. I also enjoyed this video very much! I liked seeing you 'think' about this project as it made me a little more confident to try something in the new year. Thank you so much for trying new things... gives me hope for myself. Merry Christmas to you and yours this season. And blessings in the new year!
Wonderful job on the door, I think it's a winner! You are so very talented! Your kitten didn't want to be left out on a colour make-over! 😂So adorable. Hope you're feeling better.🙏 Thank you for sharing, have a lovely weekend! Lots of love Kathy x 🎄❤Canada
Mucky pets...baby wipes. Just stroke them, with one in your hand, when they walk past. Baby wipes clean everything: dirty pets, dirty shoes, stained wallpaper, makes inside of your car look brand new and so much more. So effective that I wouldn't recommend them for a little baby butt :D
Oh dear 😂. This happened to our kitten years ago when we moved into our new house. We could hear him meowing up there and he wouldn’t come down! Of course he did eventually and was also a mucky shade of grey 😂
Oh my goodness you need to rename bjorn to gandalf the grey 😂😂😂. When my two cats were kittens they climbed the fir tree in the garden which was 50’ tall. I lost them for a few hrs, had to be a weekend 🫣, when i finally got them down they were covered in needles and sticky spider webs. I decided then they would remain indoor cats. However luckily 😮i dont have a chimney 😂. So look forward to watching a new video from you 😘
In the U.S., if you have the measurements of what you need cut, and buy the wood there...Home Depot hardware store will actually cut the wood for you. I don't know if you have hardware stores in Ireland that do that.
Wow what a difference the door is, you have done an amazing job on the new units and revamping the doors. You made me laugh when you said the kittens had been up the chimney.
Hi Catherine, Siobhan kitchen door look’s great, I hope she liked it. Bán & Beag are little monkey’s going up your chimney, I bet you were surprised. Have a lovely weekend
I know how difficult it must be for you without a workshop. I’m an older lady but an avid DIYer and would also love to join a group for help, advice and to use shared tools. It’s very difficult to do tasks outside with the rainy weather in NW England (very similar to your rainy weather) hope your feeling better 💕love all your videos have a wonderful Christmas x
Just a thought probably quicker, you could just use bondo (car body filler) fill the grooves then sand and paint the doors then you wouldn’t have the raised bit in the middle if you did that x
Catherine, what time of day was it when you were setting up the workhorses? It sounded peaceful and lovely. I love wainscoting but to each his own I guess . The kitchen does look much nicer and cozy.
The pictures of the two of them at the food dishes - soooo cute!
I am fascinated by how talented you are in crafting, woodworking and all sort of deco and design. Way to go gal.
It’s lots of practice believe me!! And mistakes always happen but I just love trying my hand at it all 😍 thanks for stopping by xx

Oooh that sounds great!!
Hi, we have a tool bank where we can borrow tools and gardening equipment. ❤
That sounds great! How does one sign up for them? Where can they be found?
Yes. makers spaces are amazing. Usually at a 2 year community college.
I like those grooves in the doors. Very farmhouse looking. But then, it's not my kitchen. 😁
Me too!
Me as well. Liked the original color!
i love how it came out♡ ah nothing like a new power tool to get the creative juices flowin.... that back view of the kitties eating was everything! truly

Even with the primer on, I like how it's looking. Great idea for a viewer.

Yes that’s the name of the product, I couldn’t source it here ❤️

Cat in the chimney 😂🤣 was the cutie 🐈 looking for Santa 🎅🏼
Making sure the chimneys clean for Santa 🤣🤣

Thank you ☺️❤️
The door design looks wonderful! I loved the picture or the kittys backs together when eating and had a chuckle at the gray kitten. Oh my!
😂
cabinet door looked lovely, i'd really like to change mine but too nervous to start lol. Haha chimney and cats - bless him..he was checking santa could fit down :D

Great work Catherine 👏
You are a pro girl. The door looks so much better. I truly think you can go on with this recipe🎉🎉🎉.
🙏🏼☺️ thank you, it seems to be the easier option for me
Humm you might be on to a whole new business venture with the all inclusive rent a workshop idea. 💡
It’s a good idea right? I wonder would be it a nightmare to insure though?
It exists in the states
Both are routers Catherine internet and your wood working tool 😊

Too much fun watching those but your job is so beautiful on that door.

You could use some fancy thin trim on top of the MDF to add a bit of a design.
Hi Catherine door looks fab love all your Vlogs .From karatefella wife Carol.

Hi, hope nanny likes the new door, she has a lovely eat in kitchen now and that parts finished in the for Christmas. Wishing you and your furbabies a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. ❤
I think you might need to bevel the 4 sides of the Mdf panel so the raised centre will blend out at the edges
Great job on the door!❤
I would use your router to eat up that inner areas so that when you are done it will look like it is recessed in the middle like shaker style.
The cabinet door turned out great 👍 U did an awesome job, and if Siobhan likes it, I literally see how lovely that kitchen is going to look.
Aww thank you!! I loved working on it 😍

I like the new door. I prefer clean lines and easy to wipe surfaces. Personally I also prefer multiple videos...it helps me process.
I love it Catherine im so happy with color and look of the cabinets so over the grey and those groves your talent goes above and beyond 💪🩷

Hi. Wow wow wow love your hair❤❤❤❤
I love the grooves!
The door looks great! I hope nanny likes it. ; )
Wow! It’s crazy how much bigger Bahn is than Beaug! (Sorry if I butchered the spelling!)
The door turned out so well
❤️❤️❤️❤️
U.K. has Makerspace in many towns. The men’s shed here says that women can come along as well but I haven’t been to one of those.
You are amazing! This kitchen is gonna look fantastic!
Aww thanks Angela ♥️♥️
I am learning lots from you. Hugs from Spain
I'm so glad! xxx
The door came out great!
Thank you 🙏🏼☺️
The door looks really nice! And I admire how much you let them do and stay relaxed.
Thank you ☺️❤️
Hope you are feeling better soon. Saying a prayer for you? Thanks for sharing always enjoy your videos.

I love to watch you paint. You’re so neat and clean. And it’s always so beautifully done!

It looks similar to a shaker style cabinet. Very nice. However, maybe it's the camera angle, but the handle looks a tad off.
They're bith routers (rOUT ers). You are so adorable!❤
Wow!😮
You are one talented gal. Looks great.🪛🪛🪛
Thank you so much 🤗
I think it looks great. 💯💯💯

They are little trouble makers lately 🤣🤣
This is looking so good. What a pro you are. It will be fun to watch the progress. Get well.
Cool! I've also seen videos where ppl just flip the cabinet door around and use the back side of the door to change the look.
Hi Catherine, Siobhan kitchen door look’s great, I hope she liked it. Bán & Beag are little monkey’s going up your chimney, I bet you were surprised. Have a lovely weekend
They are getting into everything 🤣🤣 thanks Jo!!♥️ thanks for stopping by have a lovely weekend 😘

Aw, I relate so much to this, it can be a pain setting up your tools al the time, would be such a luxury for us to have it all set up in a space.
I wish we could speed up renovations like in videos, half an hour to renovate mine 😅
haha, me too!
Could you cut the center section out and add a piece of wood on the back ??
The painted door looks really nice!
❤️
Turned out good! Looking forward to seeing it completed.
Thanks Kim!!
OMG…your little ones are cute, but a handful😂 You’re so right about color in winter light.
They rule the roost 🤣🤣
Renting space and or time in a workshop is fairly common in u.s. cities, and usually not cheep
Yea I imagine the insurance is crazy on those kind of places ❤️
I know that the big box stores (Home Depot and Lowes) will cut your boards for you in the States. Do the ones in Ireland not have that service?
Only B&Q as far as a I know, and they wood cutter isn’t always there ❤️
Just a thought probably quicker, you could just use bondo (car body filler) fill the grooves then sand and paint the doors then you wouldn’t have the raised bit in the middle if you did that x
Search update kitchen cabinet with bondo on UA-cam there’s loads of videos ❤
Hey thanks for the suggestion, I did mention mid video about that product, unfortunately I cannot get it here.
Catherine, what time of day was it when you were setting up the workhorses? It sounded peaceful and lovely. I love wainscoting but to each his own I guess . The kitchen does look much nicer and cozy.
That was day time just before it got dark ❤️it gets dark around 4pm at the moment
Merry Christmas! Wishing you a healthy happy NewYear!
Aww merry Christmas! Thanks for stoping by ♥️♥️
The kittens going up the chimney is hilarious although I appreciate not for you. 😂 Maybe looking for Santa?
Sneaky little things 🤣
Great job! ❤
Thank you! 😄
Great job,Catherine! This came out really well.
Thank you ☺️
Yes. This!!
Wtg i love the shade great job
☺️ thank you x
Great job
Very nice well done.
Thank you ☺️
Are you putting any crown molding on that door?
Hi Catherine great job ❤
❤️❤️❤️ thank you
Just a suggestion, but in my experience gray cats make for better chimney sweeps. Chim Chim Cheerie!
😆
