It was very therapeutic watching this. I love oil paintings. I was very curious as to the wood filler pack you had. Where was it from? I need to find something like that to repair a picture I have. You made a lovely job of the frame ❤

Also check to see on back if there are any numbers and or letters which artists will use at times to number their artwork. You may have an original that might be work many $$$$, it looks like oil painting, but I'm no artist, I think folks here have given some good suggestions. Keep us posted if you find out, I like this kind of stuff.

If .you can’t find the fabric to make the lamp shade then use wallpaper. I bought shades I liked and the shade of white I liked then I cut out the parts of the wallpaper I liked and decoupage it onto the shade. I over lapped the prints some what then once it dried I bout a non yellowing marge podge over top! It turned out really pretty and I get so many compliments on the small lampshades which I actually used all the way around my chandelier so I did like nine of them. Good luck

Elderwood fabric by Laura Ashley is listed online $68.00 per yard. If you have extra wallpaper it makes wonderful lampshades.

I found the artist by googling and matching the signature. Franklin Chenault Watkins. Here's the first line of the wikipedia. Franklin Chennault Watkins (December 30, 1894 - December 4, 1972) was an American painter. Search that up so you can see the rest!

It’s unlikely to be the same artist. The style is completely different and so are the signatures. Pity though, it would be very valuable!

I'm pretty sure the painting is a hobbyist piece, painted by using the Bob Ross tutorial tapes popular in the 90s. My grandpa painted an almost identical painting to this one from one of those tutorials. It actually may be identical.

Hi Catherine. If you have any wallpaper left over you could decoupage and plain white or cream lampshade. I've done that before to match a lamp in a room! The picture frame looks so much better in the green rather than pink!

I knew these type of 90s prints that I grew up with would be making their way back around before long. Ive been seeing a lot of 90s country and cottage style things popping back up in peoples homes lately. Also, there were Bob Ross tutorial vhs tapes in the 80s and 90s that taught people how to paint his style of paintings. My grandpa was really into it. I believe thats what your painting is. My family members have several nearly identical pictures painted by my grandpa and uncle who followed the Bob Ross tutorials 😊

I don't know about the UK, but here across the pond I remember people from the silent generation era picking up these 'generic' paintings at malls and hotel conference halls. Every home from that era seemed to have one of these paintings. I recognize them right off as they all have similar frames and the mountain in the background, very generic. I stay away from them, but I know the younger generations seem to be keen on picking them up. (I am 60 y.o. and it was a thing of my parents' generation.)

The first painting, on which you cleaned and touched up the frame, looks very much like an oil painting that we have. We bought it in Munich in 1982. I have also seen similar paintings with almost the exact same theme: mountains, river, trees, from various sources. I think that many of them were painted by art students who were practicing their painting skills, and just happened to sell them and make a few marks/quid/dollars/shekels on their work. I don't recognize the artist, but they painted an idyllic scene. Enjoy!

In the States, it depends on where you’re from or where you were first introduced to traffic circles as to whether you call them circles or roundabouts. I met my first traffic circle on the East Coast in the early 90s. Now I live in the Midwest and I hear people call the much smaller versions here both a roundabout and a circle. 😊

My dad was a restorer artist for paintings in a museum. They cleaned it with petroleum/chemical. It's good to have professionally done, but I read that carefully, you can make it a bit cleaner with fresh white bread casings. It is also a good home trick for removing greasy dirt. Tear off pieces from the bread casing and gently wipe and rub the painting. Other with nice warm soapy water with a dump cloth gently rub the painting.

I like the green frame better than the pink. It highlights the print nicely. I'm sure you'll be able to thrift something else to try the mod podge technique on.

Very nice piece of artwork! I love this kind of painting and have several in my home. Most of them are from yard sales or estate sales. They add a kind of coziness to a home that is warm and homey rather than aspiring to grandeur.

Good choice in paint colour! Verte de terre actually looks very neutral against the green wallpaper. Is the lamp myrtle wood? A lot of those lamps and other turned decor were made on the w coast of the US.

The green frame really allows the painting to pop on the wall. Your friend's father did a beautiful job making that lamp. If you want to do a DIY shade for it they have kits that come with a shade that has a paper sheet wrapped around the outside that is peeled off and has a sticky surface underneath that you attach your fabric to. You might be able to contact Laura Ashley and see if they made a fabric to match the wallpaper and if you can order it from them. Loving your book, can't wait to order one! Congrats to Beogh (sp?) on not peeing the bed anymore :)

That type of light bulb connection I know as a bayonet fitting, as opposed to screw-in. Just FYI. LOVE the two restored frames! That two ladies print is sealed so well, to protect the print from moisture - of which Ireland has a lot! 🙂 I made art for my bathrooms when I was still in our 45 year old house, but I always sealed the pictures in behind non-reflective glass and with lots of strong taping on the back - it works!

You made me realize how much I miss Bob Ross and his happy clouds (mountains, trees, ponds). He had such a nice vibe. I love what you did with the paintings. I would probably paint everything green if I could.

Funny, I goggled Irish painter oils and Bartolomew Watkins came up. I thought the name looked like Watkins. There were some other paintings there that looked like his style. Don't know but it sure is fun looking.

Ahh what a lovely calming Vid, thanks so much I enjoyed watching you renovate those frames. I have had a stressful day and this was exactly what I needed to relax to. Love the idea of making the lampshade, I have a similar lamp and my poor shade got mouldy, so I may go nuts and paint it abstract! I love the look of your book and many congrats now it is ready at last. Thank you Catherine for making me smile today xx

Beautifully done Catherine. I too prefer the green frame than the pink. I too looked up the artist as several of your other fans had done. There is an Irish artist called Bartholomew Colles Watkins during the 1833-1891. He's well known for travelling throughout Ireland doing landscapes. I could be wrong.😋 Keep up the great works!🥰cute as a button you.

Hi Catherine, Closs and Hamblin have the Laura Ashley Elderwood Fern Green fabric reduced from £36 to £32.40, if that’s the right one. They are in Eastbourne, East Sussex. I keep meaning to have a go at lampshade making, so I’ll be very interested in seeing that! Lovely pictures also! Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕
