Clutter is sign of people that sees the possibility of upcycling and creative mind. The problem is finding the sweet point where you can actually use the stuff and know have space for all your brilliant ideas ❤
I live inside my workspace, a busy prof calligraphy and design studio - The work clutter is constant! After more than three years, I am still trying to find spaces/toss boxes standing on the floor, all containing cash-earning potential. Then in the second half of the year, huge boxes of stationery blanks are delivered by clients, for me to do the hand lettering...I used to have a studio that actually had more space than my current live/work one does!!! But, slowly does it, and on Saturdays I spend time refinishing old furniture, and then also make work of the declutter of a particular corner., Being a pensioner, I need to work freelance in order to afford rent and food, and so I have learned to use what I have. Often I turn cardboard boxes into (what looks like) baskets.....
I am sooo into decluttering videos right now! I can scarcely walk in the door of my craft room , it’s full to the gunnels of ‘inspiration’ 😃 Still, 20 min blocks I can do , so thanks for that bit of positivity
It’s been too hot to clean under cupboards 😮 I agree it’s better to do small tasks often, and not procrastinate, letting a job get bigger and overwhelming.
No surprises, but my clutter always seemed to multiply in my sewing/craft space. However, since the beginning of the new year I’ve systematically gone through everything I’ve accumulated, from notions to fabric, to haberdashery and yarn and I’ve culled what I no longer want to use. I have only kept what I really want and the rest I’ve donated to like minded craft friends and the local library craft club. I’ve definitely felt more productive since I’ve decluttered and now once I’ve completed projects (sewing especially) I clean up my workspace as I go so it’s accessible for the next project. I’ve also gotten into the habit of planning my projects via journals which has helped me stay focused on what it is I need rather than just buying bits and bobs for the sake of it … it’s definitely been a lot kinder on my purse that’s for sure 😊
Pain corners - I have a pain dining room. I live alone, so the dining room table is where I eat, it has all my planning supplies, stamping supplies, art supplies, you name it. There's exactly one spot left at a table that seats 6, for me to sit. I also have my seed starting station in the dining room and all associated supplies. Another is the "L" at the end of my kitchen. It naturally collects all the things. Eventually I'll clean out my home office and make that the creative space, but it'll take some time.
Ah clutter with a capital “ C”! For me it is greatly due to lack of proper storage - but working on it bit by bit encouraged by your “ I can do it!/ I did it” spirit! Little idea to ponder: Guest rooms are great but to set aside a room for the rare occasion someone stays overnight… maybe with a murphy bed… that could be a lovely additional place for sewing and cricut projects…? PS my much loved black cat Mingxer was a lad so am having a hard time wrapping my head around your black cat being a lassie! Ok, back to my jobs!
You keep a tidy house. We all have times where we just need to clean up an space. You have motivated me to do a deep clean tho ! Your cats are beautiful. The white cat is a male so he will get bigger than his sister. You might want to get a large cat tower and put it in front of a sunny window. They will love you for it. Maybe put the desk on the wall you just moved the little kitchen and put some shelves in front of one side of the windows so you can do seedlings, then put a tall cat tower next to the self. Or put a cat tower next to the scratching post in your living room. Just some thoughts ....
Only boring people have tidy homes 😂it’s great watching you tidy up , but as you say sometimes I just watch and sometimes it inspires me to do something similar. Watching the kittens is pure medicine. ❤️
Your office looks terrific after your clean up (fairies). My friend Patty and I takes turns helping each other about one hr. at a session - we get so much done and then have a game and tea. Makes quick work and is a morale builder to do it with a friend and then return the favor. We work crazy fast together. Just pick one thing that can make you feel better and go for it. I do some of her mending too sometimes in repayment:))
great to see someone else cleaning up a craft hobby work room in late January yesterday I finally put away the last two Christmas bins. just in time for Valentine's Day! ha ha better late than never xo lori
My trouble spots are the kitchen table, laundry room and future pantry/sewing room. I have homes for things, but I need to move stuff out of those spaces to move the things that belong there. That's where the overwhelm festers. I picture what it should/will look like and that brings me joy, but getting there, ah that's the thing.
Hello Catherine! I hope you get your wish of the out building one day and a room for your tools. Those kittens are just the sweetest! Cheeky thumbs up dear!
Thankyou Catherine for sharing your decluttering. Like you have been doing something each day. It's amazing how things get done when you time yourself. Say 15 minutes for one job. I especially loved your video today with your little assistants supervising.
Rub a little cat mint on the pole to show them where to scratch. Attach some cat toys with velcro or stitch them to the pole. What about the storage space you built under the eves of the house? Everything looks tidy. Now relax with a cup of tea. I enjoyed your video. Thanks Catherine.
My craft room is the one place where I believe any thing that touches another thing results in greater accumulation of additional things. It’s definitely the hot spot in my house.
Lord Have Mercy, I've been going to sort out and de-clutter my craft shed for months now...each time I walk into it...I feel overwhelmed and can't face it, yet it's always on my mind to do it🤨 so what do I do? I buy 'things' that will help me ie; storage containers, files, etc ...they then get thrown in there and left too. 🤔🤭
@@vivsalittlebitcrafty4854 you are not alone, starting is always the hardest part! try setting a timer for even 15min & just tackle a little. once you get going I guarantee you’ll be at it longer! the so called experts say do NOT buy any storage containers until youre done. this is the 1st time I took that advice & Im glad I did. Im nearly done decluttering my art room & this HAS to be the last time! you got this😊
Decluttering videos definitely inspire me! Unfortunately I have clutter hot spots everywhere 😂 I have that scratching post, and you can buy a perch for it that slides on the top - my cats love it & hang out on the top to look out the window 🙂
I work for a gal that is a quilter and the amount of fabric that she has is incredible daunting! I have heard that clutter is the outward manifestation of what is in your mind. what you said! anyway, I love watching cleaning videos as well! thanks for this weeks motivation! thanks for sharing! xoxo
We also have a "dump pile room" at home. We open the door, put some stuff and then close the door "nothing to see here" 😂 and the home is clean and clutter free in a certain way 😂
I live in a condo community. I am fortunate to have a garage but it’s become a dumping around now is getting there but the garage is going nowhere it’s very overwhelming. When you’re working at a home for yourself, it’s very challenging because when you’re working outside of your home, you always have a start time and then time punch in and punch out at home that’s difficult. Did you ever think of giving yourself like a shift I start work at 8 AM and I keep going Until break time then go to the kitchen and get something to eat and then return to work and keep going till 3 o’clock then you punch out for the day you turn off your computer you shut the office door and enjoy the rest of the house keep it separate as much as possible
I started on my house a few weeks ago by cleaning the inside of the windows then went down with Covid ☹️ Just trying to get some energy back to continue. Thanks for the great video 👍 🌺 🌱 🌼 😻
My office/craft room is the only room I allow to be messy. It is my spare room and also where I do my ironing so I do have to keep it mostly tidy. I have an IKEA gate legged table which I open out, today I had my Circuit out on there.
I had to chuckle when you said you would like a tool shed and it would have a place for everything and would be all neat and tidy….I have a tool shed and a greenhouse and guess what state they are???? Not unlike your office….. happy decluttering, great thing to do in the dregs of winter..
I'm taking January off !!! I finally got all my Christmas decorations put away ( I moved them from the living area to a bedroom and i could barely get to my desk 😬) I too , love watching organization videos... My understairs cupboard is called 'the cupboard of doom'.Everything goes in there..shoes,coats,jigsaws,games,bags,paint,mop,vases,unused crockery, cat litter, foot spa and loads of other miscellaneous stuff.🤣
I've taken a large shopper of donations to the charity shop most weeks in January so far and I still have more to donate. I do try to be ruthless but somehow the clutter creeps back so I have to have regular purges. But I always feel so much better for it
Hi Catherine! I totally understand what you were saying about working from home….i always enjoyed the car ride to work and then back home as well. It helped me prepare mentally and like find my chill. When i started staying at home i lost that and was totally off kilter. So now that I’ve realized i need a consistent start and end of work day i just recreate that. For me if i start easy with Coffee and the Lords word and end the work day with some kind of physical activity it helps me focus on the next task for the home not for work. Sometimes i walk the dogs or sweep the floor or do the dishes or water the houseplants some quick chores but that helps me recenter.
Mines my craft room.....my daughter moved back home and boy is my craft room full of her "stuff" !!! And then christmas things got stuffed in there...always sort it in spring but it fills up each christmas !!
I so agree, I used to attempt room after room in a day! Now I will do one cupboard or a couple of drawers at a time. Maybe something to do with my age though! X
