The NC500 is fine for most cars and vans but for a real tour of the highlands come off the NC500 route and use those roads most bikes doing the NC500 are designed for, after doing John O Groats follow the A836 then at Tongue you can come off the route and head south through the hills to Altnaharra A836, more fun than the single track grind of the A838 and no cars as the track is very rough this takes you to Lairg where just before Lairg you can turn onto the A838 and go through even more beautiful scenery passing several lochs before joining the NC500 again on the A894 or go to Lairg and hook across to the A837 and head for Ullapool, these are great roads to ride as is the A835 from Ullapool to Garve through the valley on newish tarmac then take the A832 to Kinlochewe and you can then travel on to Applecross and the pass. The route is longer than the 500 but much less busy and glorious scenery. I did it last year on a fully loaded Rebel 1100 so any bike can do it.
ا A strange and wondrous world... Here I am sitting on a chair in a high temperature of forty degrees Celsius in Riyadh - Saudi Arabia, watching someone go from Manchester to Scotland in the rain and relatively cold weather... and this Internet may bring together people from everywhere in the world of all walks of life. To see one thing... I enjoyed watching this video... I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip💐🛵
Enjoyed Ep1 and will follow the series but Ive been on a motor cycle for 50 years and still don't get why riders with great gear (Roker drop liner jackets etc) let the rain soak everything! A Scott rain and pants combo (£160) is the best weather protection I have ever had. Try watching Bath rugby from the open stand in Oct to realise the value of proper waterproof clothing!! I put mine on when it rains and everything below it is 100% dry. Great tour though!!
You need to use camp sites and save some money ! When we was up there it was 10-19 quid a night for camping with showers, drying rooms and free WiFi on alot of the camp sites . Great vid dude 👌
Great vid.ill be looking forward to the next episode..I’m off up there tomorrow and the weather looks ok for the first few days then it’s downhill a bit.probably end up getting as wet as you at some point but all adds to the adventure..great stuff
Brilliant vlog stunning scenery and a great ride even though it rained you still made it very interesting can't wait for more. Best wishes Geoff and Samuel 😊
Been watching out for more of you posts! So glad it was the NC500! Looks amazing! Need to get up there! To easy to keep doing the Lakes and Wales! Even though they are stunning too! Nice touch respecting the war dead 🙏🙏look forward to the next episodes 👍👍
Hi Joe, found your channel this morning, enjoyed the NC 500 video & ended up binging the Corfu episodes , really enjoyed your chilled approach 😊 Look forward to the remaining NC trip which we did slowly over 17 days in 2021 , it's and I can’t wait to return but in the meantime will soak up your experience 😀
Really appreciate the kind words, thanks for watching and I really enjoyed filming the Corfu videos. It’s nice to hear you have enjoyed them, it was something a little different.
At last been wondering how long it would be before you started posting again and it was worth the wait .The scenery was spectacular cant wait to see more and would have liked a longer video just to kick things off but i am so looking forward to more of these keep them coming great job
Thank you! Absolutely, I didn’t really enjoy the east coast as there wasn’t a huge amount to see. If I did it again I would spend more time in the west and drive back through the centre.
@@freedom-machines East coast is a fast ride down but there are plenty to see, Anyways I highly recommend you to get yourself a Coolcover for your seat 👍 Well worth it 👍 Ride safe!
We did the NC500, east coast first few weeks back in our campervan, we went up through the Cairngorms, l cycled the Great Glen way in 2018, stopping and starting at Fort William, it's stunning Scotland, particularly up in the highlands, that north coast however is a different level again I'd say, coastal obviously, enjoy the journey.... 👌🏻❤️🏴
Nice one Mate. I'm in Rochdale and, have done the NC 500 four times over a few years. Much the same as you, Fort Bill is my preferred 1st nights stop. As for the weather, last September I got all kitted up for the typical Scottish weather, and boy did I get it wrong! 😞. It hit 20c one day, I nearly melted lol. I'm looking forward to the next instalment 👍🏍.
The NC500 is just a marketing exercise, get a map out and discover the hundreds of real roads that run from it. I’m off to the western isles next weekend via the Isle of Bute through Dumfries and Galloway avoiding the motorways. Lucky enough to live near Hexham in Northumberland. PS. Glencoe and the section north of Ullapool are stunning whatever the weather☔️☔️☔️☔️
Not sure if you'll see this Joe however it's possible that your lower back pain is from a Taurine deficiency. Happens to a lot of lifters and a combination of supplementing with a couple of grams of Taurine spread throughout the day along with a foam roller to loosen up the lower back muscles can make the world of a difference.
Riding though glencoe was amazing for me too buddy, I can’t wait to get back up there, I was lucky when I did my videos up there with the weather but it’s all part of the fun! Did you go to the green welly on the A82? Fort William is a nice place I do hope your back gets better mate, great video I’ll throw you a sub and maybe meet up some point for a ride out for UA-cam 👍
@@freedom-machines not hanging around then, looking forward to the next video, let us know the rough spend on fuel and accommodation when you're done, ride safe.
In case it is any comfort: just spent the last two weeks riding around the Picos and the Pyrenees and got torrential drenching after torrential drenching!
this will soon be me!! i cant wait!! lovely video
Have fun!
❤ wasn't forecast to rain today.... But it is Scotland 👏 🏴
Amazing Joe, what a journey. It’s not Scotland without a bit of rain 😅
Thanks Adam 🙌

Hi Gary, yes I bought a 2 piece Oxford waterproof set for the trip. I had to use the jacket a few times but not the trousers.

Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I’m going to give it a go soon but I had disc surgery 2/3 years ago. I’ve had issues ever since.
A beautiful country with stunning scenery and the NC500. It's my plan to do the same in 2025....
Good for it! You won’t regret it
Great vid. I did it last year and doing it again solo motorcycle I can’t wait.

Are those panniers fitted to a luggage rack or are they just slung over the seat? The bike looks amazing as well!
So wish you were camping for the full adventure experience.
You’re right! I need to buy all the camping gear first. I definitely want to camp ⛺️
As I wenn through the buying process recently : Don’t buy motorcycle specific gear, buy ultralight backpacking camping gear and thank me later.
