Your supposed to wet sand the flake down before you candy it. It helps give it a glass look when you build the clear on it. But also probably only put a couple coats of clear down. I recommend at minimum 5 coats of clear for custom paint jobs to have a deep clear. This car was a test example so take it into account.

I love the amount of detail you put into prepping a car for what is essentially just an experiment. You really care and love for your work and it shows.

When you do any type of painting/spraying/wrap etc. especially for automotive prepping is one if not the main thing in achieving the best results, yeah it’s just an experiment but in order to prove the point he’s trying to make the prepping has to be top notch. I said the same exact thing regarding the aging idk how or why but it shows in this video more than it ever did before. He just celebrated the decade mark last month. I don’t know how he got started though, if I was to guess it would be that he came across plasti-dip which is a rubberized coating made for tools handle and what not and he probably had an idea to try and use it on vehicles, wheels, emblems, etc. and with trials and tribulations came to master it

The pear side looks smoother and looks more uniform. I agree that it’s just personal preference on if you like flake or not but the flake did nothing to enhance the candy finish. Now I think if you did this same test in Autoflex you’d get a more comparable result and it obviously would look better from further away. But I do think a silver metallic base or any lighter metallic base in general is going to give you a better representation the candy color of choice every time.

I guess it is down to personal preference as you said. A trade off between sparkling and low gloss finish and smooth, flat, high gloss finish. In the end the user decides: get sparkling or show the curves. 😁 But, you can now use that candy tint to change the crazy reflective glass beads into any color you'd want.

@@shin10912 regular Candy paint jobs always needs a glossy topcoat because the topcoat is so freaking important for the candy look. A good candy paint job is when you really can see the depth and gloss in the color, so that's why topcoat is the final stage of a candy paint job. Because this is now done with regular Plasti dip and not in Autoflex with 2k clear coat you are already losing a big deal for the real candy experience. You want a matte look so you will never get the depth what makes a candy look. Believe me when I say don't use HOK Candy Concentrate for your dip job. You will pay a lot of money, HOK KK isn't cheap, for an outcome which you can get with the regular pearls. If you want to create a "custom" color for your matte dip you would be way better of with adding a juice. This will save you a lot of money which you can use for something else.

I like the right side, and the left sparkling side... beautiful either side.

Pearls are much more subtle and the Candy Blue is delightful. It sort of comes down to what effect you are trying to achieve. I give both sides a 4 out of 5 as they both create a wonderful effect.

Both are great. My fav is the micro flake. During the last shot, with both versions visible side by side on the hood, I thought the pearl base looked a lot like a police car kind of blue.

Is nobody going to mention that the giant beaker has a spout for pouring yet you don’t use it? 😂
    Top video as always 🤘🏼🇬🇧

My preference is for both. Pearl basecoat, lay over a slightly lean coat of flake so you still get to see some of the pearl effect through it, then candy over top.

The pearl side has a nice smooth look, but I like the pop of the micro flakes side

I think both are great, but personally I would choose the pearl. The flake I think is more lowrider-esque...if that makes sense. Also, now we need a silver holographic 😆

Flake for me and a lovley colour, thanks for the vids dude.

Pearl gives the paint a more wet look, typical of exotics and tuners. Flake gives it a more “pimp type” look that’s good for classics like a 85 Caprice Donk or a 68 rat rod. Both are good but I gotta go with the metallic on 26” Rucci customs. That HoC is by far the best candy right now. That Audi tried but it doesn’t have the lines and curves to set the paint off. You get something like a GTI or a Mini and the pearl will definitely turn heads at a car show. A good buff and cut would really make it champ too.

Yeah I love the way it glitters.. point me to some flake that's copper and some that's gold.. I want to put it in the clear coat and shoot it on my PT Cruiser that is in primer.. the red oxide.. I can't wait to see it for real as opposed to just in my head.. so thanks for sharing...

I love the micro flake look. It pops a whole lot more. The pearl is more subtle and looks ok but the flakes are better in my opinion.

I feel like the pearl especially on the audi looks best. I also think that the flake needs a heavier/deeper clear coat to really make it shine. Jmo.

As all candies or flake paint jobs the most impact always relies on the glass finish I believe if you had a highly wet sanded and polished finish the results would have been completely different

  • @MuShinnen

Definitely going with the Pearls. That just looks smooth and a little more sophisticated. The flake doesn't look bad, but if it were my car I'd go with pearl without a doubt.

I love that HOK oriental blue... the flake vs pearl really depends on the look your trying to achieve both look awesome honestly. I actually want the pearl on my car with that candy... its original color used to be very similar just over the last 17 years it has gotten beaten up...

Driver side is best for me, more of a Galaxy affect. If you put a Clear Coat on top the affect would have been better in dept. Almost a 3-D affect if you will. Great job Fonz. Aeehhhheeyyyy
