@@SheEquipsHerself Ok so first video i am watching of yours with the boyfriend....he is really informative, and he presents this information in a logical way. very different from the usual UA-cam "Guntubers" which I really appreciate it sets you apart from the crowd in a great way, also always enjoy how you present information when you do the talking as well. Also swapping my .20 shotguns 00 buckshot with #4 buckshot cause of him for home defense he raised some really good points. Crap I keep editing this comment but what are your and his thoughts on Pistol Caliber Carbines or Conversion Kits for pistols for home defense for those who cant afford like an AR platform specifically in response to the rifle part cause some people can get a PCC easier than an AR or AK.

When you are upstairs looking down if you put a picture with glass on your wall or in your case door you can see the person coming from the other room which give you even more advantage. I have always put pictures in Strategic places to give me better views. Most people dont look for reflections on pictures. Just a helpful hint. Great content by the way.

My first line of defense at my house is our dog. Nobody unknown to him is getting into the house without a huge amount of noise coming from him. He’s a Great Pyrenees, 120-pounds and the most lovable family dog in the world, but nobody is going to sneak into the house past him. He gives me time to get to my second line of defense, all of which were discussed in the video. Great video by the way, thanks for putting it out there.

I bought a German Shepard for my daughter so that when she goes to college it can do the exact same thing for her. The fierce bark of a big dog wakes you UP and scares the hell out of an intruder while I grab my weapon to checkout whats going on.

Our medium sized dog has variable barking depending on how far a stranger is. If someone is walking on the sidewalk, he does a couple of "bruf" barks. Kids cutting across the yard gets a full bark and delivery people on the front step or back deck get the full insanity response. Dogs are a very helpful 24 hour monitor system. Cats on the other hand.....

This channel is amazing. With the state of America currently. We have been thinking about getting a firearm and home defence tools.
    This knowledge is extremely helpful.
Due to the shortage of handguns a shotgun seems like it may be our only option and having no experience with firearms the segment on pump versus semi automatic was invaluable.
I wish we never had to think about this though and it's a shame it's gotten so bad that we no longer feel safe and protected.

The one thing allot of tactical trainers forget to advise is the importance of a sling on a long gun. If you have a malfunction or knocked to your feet after you've missed your shot, your weapon can be retained and not be used against you.

    • @SheEquipsHerself
      @SheEquipsHerself  4 роки тому +24

Slings can be good and bad. Sometimes they can get in your way and cause malfunctions, especially when reloading. They can also get caught on things when you're trying to remove them from your safe. Over all, slings are generally a good idea but it's another level of training. Just putting a sling on a long gun and not training with it can get you into trouble. I agree with your perspective though! Just something to consider. Thanks so so much for watching my video :)

One of the best platform/caliber discussions on UA-cam. I agree with all of Mac's talking points. This gentleman knows his stuff. Thank you for reiterating the point that all pistols are underpowered and simply crush tissue; there is no "shock" with projectiles moving less than ~2000fps.

I've been around guns for years and that explanation about rifle bullets and the water with the pebble. That was probably the best way I've heard that effect described. I'm a bit of a gun nerd and sometimes its difficult to explain things like that to people who arent as well rounded in that realm. But that description is super easy for normal people to wrap their heads around.

Pepper spray does take a while to actually work on someone. You could spray someone in the face and he could stab your several times before the spray takes him out of the fight.
However this can happen with bullets as well.

Never felt the need to own a gun till this past year. I really appreciate the novice level approach to information. Just found this channel and subscribed. Some of the best advice I have seen on UA-cam without a bunch of tacticool nonsense. The solution to where to store guns throughout your house for various situations is to simply carry while inside your home. That way it is always there when you need it. It may sound crazy but what would suck after all your prep and training is to find yourself in a situation where you have nothing but empty hands.

While I lived in Mass I had gotten my Class A license, I traveled by Lawrence often due to my family (Mom) , so I had to have a method of protection. I realized having a gun in a red zone is good, however knowing your laws is extremely important and kind of stressful. Constant training is a must. Now that my mom passed away R.I.P. When I was a pretty young kid, my grandpa told me, 12 ga, No4 buck is the only way to go if you want something to just plain stop. He lived quite a life and made lots of things stop breathing in his lifetime. I've tried both 00 and 4 quite a bit, and it's hard to argue with him. The noise of the rifle is the exact reason we switched to a pistol carbine for our house long gun. Plus it gives us a little more realistic range for outdoor situations.

I too am a vet, service connected disabled US Navy Vet with a law enforcement background. I'm also a ballistics geek. I have 4 presses actually.
I absolutely agree with fit. You have to have a weapon that fits you, feels like a well worn glove. If it doesn't you may as well throw it at the bad guys after the first round.
I don't agree with your choice of shotgun ammo but personal preference. I like the double 00 simply because it does penetrate. The smaller lighter can be slowed depending on what you're shooting thru, ie heavily attired bad guys, not to mention. You can actually bounce the bigger shot off the ground, walls and not have it distort as badly.
I absolutely agree with discharge volume, why I don't use my .357 mag. The one thing you didn't mention that is huge. When you practice use the same rounds you use for self defense. I've met to many that practice with "plinking" rounds. Then when they go back to their self defense rounds. The recoil, noise adversely impacts them.
I have one or five but my go to is my 1911. When the military went to the 9 we stayed with the .45 as well as the M-14. I do prefer my AR over that tho. While I shot expert with the 14, the weight, length, recoil.............Ya
    PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE
If you have to think about it......you're to late

Great advice. I particularly like the bits about #4 buckshot and distribution of gun safes. I noticed that one safe had space for a holster and a flashlight too, which are important considerations IMO.

Very good video from the both of you. I learn a few new things now..I've never thought about using a 20 gauge for home defence. I've use 12 gauge 00 but now I may go to buck #4 from what you explained. Now thinking about buying 20 gauge semi auto now.. Again great video.. I didn't know about the home defence pepper spray. Going to look into that now too thanks to you both.. Love your videos, been following you for over a year or two now LOL..Thank you both for what you do...

Thank you both, Stav and Mac, for this great video. Info packed! ! The lighting portion has me reviewing my house 🏡 with my wife for proper lighting. Related to that, could you please consider a video on gun lighting. Do you like pistol lasers for home defense? Do you like broad white LED lights on shotguns & rifles? Am I revealing myself by using them? What are upside and downside considerations for these add-ons for home defense? Thanks so much.

Very informative video. I gotta say it is the best I've seen by far. I also thought that was a bullet proof blanket on the stairway. Keep up the good videos. 🤙
