This channel is priceless for us noobs. You're both naturals at instructing and you teach in a way that's not intimidating or patronizing... Thank you!
I was involved in three on-duty shootings during my 30 year career w/my .38 revolver and all of your points are spot on. If you’re going to carry a gun for self defense get some training that teaches you how to FIGHT w/a gun as opposed to target shooting. Even though I retired in ‘97 I still shoot tactical drills w/my LCP or J Frame monthly and carry every day. My story, written by Mas Ayoob, was featured in a Fall 2016 edition of American Handgunner. Interestingly my LE range training was mostly bulls eye from 1968 forward and did not change much until after my 1974 gunfight w/three armed robbery suspects.
I am a 68 year old male and I love your videos. I think you do a real good service to all gun enthusiasts whether you are young or old, male or female. I have taken a few concealed carry, defensive gun classes and I still learn a lot from your videos. I think having Mack on as a added technical advisor is great. He really knows his stuff. He has a real nice way of communicating with the audience as do you. Keep up with the videos and good luck.
I've been telling my wife and daughter this for a long time; "You go to the shooting range to get familiar with your firearm, and nothing you do there is like a real-life scenario".
I was so fortunate to take several of Mac's classes (with Stav assisting). It was the best training because, as this video demonstrates, it focused on the real life situation. When I started training, I figured I'd never be good enough in accuracy/recoil control. With a few classes under the belt, "good enough" took on a very different meaning. Thanks to Mac and Stav, "good enough" means I can quickly and mindfully respond, and do it effectively. Thank you Stav for these presentations! They're like a refresher course. Hope to see you both again once we can.
Love this! Nice. Went to the range alone twice now and got some instruction from them through a class and am taking my ccl shooting test on the 21st! All thanks to this channel because no one wanted to let me even buy a gun and especially not carry one( especially not my husband). Over this quarantine I bought my first pistol, located ammo, and took an online ccl course. I already carry anyway because I have 4 children that are with me at all times( including a 7 month old ). Thank you so much!!!!!!!
Great that your showing the difference and importance of target vs. defense training. I've been doing both for a few months and they are worlds apart! Every time I think there is nothing new to learn defensively, my instructor throws some new challenge at me. Thank you for your videos, your both great and fun to watch!
You guys nailed probably the MOST important aspect of all of us EDC shooters. Training Training Training, for REAL WORLD self defense scenarios, vs just standing upright at the indoor shooting range, with the comfortable air temp controlled environment, shooting at bad guy silhouette targets. Great video. I look forward to seeing the other continuations in this aspect that you both put out!
Y’all are my favorite, and I’ve learned a lot from your channel! Thanks to you, I have built the confidence to buy my own gun (in the state of California, yikes!) and go to the range on my own. My first solo range day after 100 rounds and a blister on my thumb, an older gentleman approached me and said “a girl and her gun is a beautiful thing”. That sparked so much joy within me and I give credit to you both. Thank you! PS. Ever given thought to making vlogs?
Love how you guys focus on guns from a pragmatic self defense perspective. Mac, what's your favorite quick access safe for in the home and favorite safe for car or traveling (especially with kids around)?
I loved this video. It's a real wake-up call to many of us. I practice drawing and aiming many times a day around the house, but I never move laterally and, or drop to a knee. Getting old makes getting down and up harder, but I'll work on it. Rolling around on the ground is out of the question, Ha ha ha. Thanks so much for all your videos. Keep doing them.
Tons of good info. Too many people don't practice with the non dominant hand and that's a huge mistake. Be prepared for any circumstance. Great video and thank you both.
Seriously love both of you!! You have taught me so many things! I would love more information on concealed carry for a heavier women. I am an XL, and would love to comfortably carry on my person. I am working on losing weight, but in the interim I'd love to keep myself safe while out walking, etc. Thanks!!
I recommend keeping both eyes open, even while target shooting. It's a good habit to develop for when you need to shoot for defense. You'll have to figure out which is your dominant eye, and there are great vids on YT about that.
I referred your site to my best friend , she was always reluctant to be around guns . She has now enrolled in a conceal carry class . Thanks for a great informative site .
I've been going to the range once a week for 3 months. I took a Beginning course on Saturday and I'm going to take a draw from the holster one and intermediate one next. Have been practicing dry shooting with the video you have about the draw. Very proud of myself, I fixed a malfunction all by myself and the instructor was very impressed
Great video....So much useful practical information🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼...I’m fortunate to have a gun range on my 40 acres which allows me to practice,practice,practice...I still need to improve on using both eyes...It’s taking me awhile to get used to...Well at least have confidence in doing it..
Hi Stav and Mac. QA: I enjoyed your video on whole home set-up for safety (eg you stay in dark, put invader in light, etc). It was comprehensive and excellent. A specific question on that subject: Immediate vicinity hand gun home defense at night while bedroom sleeping. Place gun on nightstand? Under mattress? Take out of lock box? Chambered? Backup ammo near gun or away? Basically, In that around-the-bed setting, how to optimize and balance safety with readiness each night? Thank you both sincerely. ☮️
You both are a pleasure to watch. Your videos show how passionate you are for safety and proper technic. I will definitely be recommending your channel. Thanks!
3 things: 1- LOVED seeing that 6" Python (beautiful). 2-I have a feeling if Stav tried shooting from a kneeling position at the range, she'd be shooting UNDER the table :-). 3-Great video as usual. I do permit to carry training here in Minnesota and I tell all my students to check out your channel. You two have a great channel. Keep up the good work.
Awesome video. You guys just get down to the basics, with no frill, only what is important. Great. Your direct approach to basic information is more valuable than 50 other video's on stance, grip, blablabla. Those are important, but not enough people talk real situations and what you need at that time.
Thank you for your videos. Because of you I went to the gun range by myself today and did great. I felt calm and confident. Also thank you for your training on you need to go with an intention to work on something when you go to the range. This helped me too. Thank you.
Stav&Mac - I am excited for the opportunity to watch future videos on this subject. Target vs. Defensive Shooting is EXACTLY what folks who are going to carry or defend themselves need, realizing this only after I watched this video. Thank you. I’ll be looking for future videos.
The bulk of my range time is spent changing mags as it's a quick way to clear jams. I randomly fill a handful of mags with 1, 2 or 3 rounds and combat reload without looking and keeping the sights on the target. Familiarity is key. Looking at your reload is like looking at your feet when you dance.
As an experienced martial artist and military man. Both tactical and stagnant train are effect. Stagnant training helps people know the technical part without the anxiety. Training in anxiety heightened position will not help someone control themself and be safe if your a beginner. Train often and join a club if possible to train for competition.
Spot on. I had a stovepipe while skills builder training this weekend and I cleared it and kept moving on my moving target and no one watching even noticed that I had and cleared a malfunction.
I am looking forward to the basement training video because my gun range doesn't allow holster drawing and we can't have full mags walked through the building. My husband bought our boys glock air pistols that they go out back to shoot and adding self defense training for them would be amazing. Thank you guys!
I work at a LGS and range in TX and have been sending lots of ladies to your channel. Thanks for the very good content and a great resource away from the range for my clients.
You two are such a great team and always have great content. It's not all splashy, flashy like some out there. But that's what I love about it. Full of great info, but practical, too. Keep up the great work!
Additional thoughts on this type of training . Perhaps on an outdoor range is to run around your car if close enough or run back and forth in a small area a couple times then straight to the shooting booth and shoot your weapon. Or indoors maybe stand back and do 5 or 10 jumping jacks to get your heart rate up then run over grab your weapon and try to shoot it at the target. it helps with the Adrenaline rush that happens in a gun shoot out situation. Try to hit the target after your heart is racing and your anxiety levels are high. Stress plays a big factor even in keeping your mind thinking about what you are doing, what just happened and how do you react to it. Just a thought. Nice video .
You two do such a wonderful job! I am a female that is new to guns and shooting. Your videos have helped train me even more. I really appreciate your expertise and the information you share. Thank you so much
I can not WAIT for a BB gun video to practice at home. The closest range to me doesn’t even allow to draw from my holster so to be able to practice at home for scenarios would be awesome! Like always this video was so awesome and informative.
Hi from Florida! ☺️ My questions- How did you both meet? How to get over the fear of shooting at ranges when other people are around? I feel fine if it’s just me or the person I went with, but when other people are in the lanes around me, I get worried. (A combo of being paranoid that the stranger is crazy or accidents happening ) basically I don’t trust strangers with guns lol
Hey Stav!! Thank you for all your great videos. I just started training to become a NRA certified pistol instructor and recently got certified as a NRA range safety office. I just love seeing all the tips and information you and Mac share!
I’m far from a novice &, in fact, I practice a lot & pretty well employ most of your suggestions, but I want to say, this is an excellent basic instructional video on self-defense practice. Good job!
Folks this is one of the most important and much needed messages to get out to your students. Keep up the good work and thank you for helping everyone to get real.
What I really love about shooting out at the local cinder pits is the freedom to do movement training. I'm able to practice shooting at the target while I'm on my way to cover behind my car and shooting at the target from there
This is a very helpful video. I realized that static shooting at the range was not very realistic years ago. My husband and I each have a laser light system for home practice. We draw from our actual concealment holsters and belly bands and shoot a laser light to hit a 6 inch target. We do move a bit at home to get off the X also. Our local gun range does not allow us to draw from the holster or move away from the firing line.
Regular range shooting is step 1. Getting comfortable with the gun, learning how to use it, how to aim, how to clear malfunctions, etc. After that, you have to take self defense specific classes and do self defense training. So important.
Great callout on the airsoft training-builds invaluable muscle memory which helps to better manage crises situations and ultimately instills confidence in one's reaction under duress Enjoyed the video!!!
Thank you Stav and Mac. This was very informative. My local range doesn’t allow even the beginner training moves you demonstrated. I will be checking into the air soft gun and will blast up my backyard training self defense moved. I love your channel. 😊
Maybe a question for Q&A: Would love your input on dry fire training systems (itarget, mantis, laser bullets etc) with ammo prices increasing as well as being so hard to find. Would you recommend and if so which one for a beginner? Love your channel. Keep up the great work, it’s such a wonderful resource for a beginner.
I think what you guys are putting together is amazing. During this time of our world and what is in right now people have panicked and went and bought weapons they get their concealed and they think they're a superstar. By you touching and telling with these videos is amazing streamly important I see that you guys are the only one that's doing it we look at the videos all the time thank you for the concern of gun carriers way2go you rock! and you being as a police officer thank you for your service that you do everything for us and make sure you go home every night to that beautiful lady God bless you both.
Great content. One thing to note...most indoor ranges don’t allow you to draw and and shoot from holster...so dry fire/hoster practice is essential. They also don’t let you rapid fire for the most part...so some of this work will need to be modified. Intrigued by your tac reload discussion...many shooters/instructors teach that the tac reload is a waste...my tac instructor says to shoot the gun empty, drop the mag and reload. This is great stuff, though...but realize that indoor ranges...at least every indoor range I’ve ever seen and even some outdoor ones, don’t allow drawing from holster.
As a mother of 2 toddlers I carry to protect them and myself, however I am nervous for when the time ever came I would need to use my edc with my boys around. I already only carry on the side I could get to when holding one of them. What other drills could I do to be ready with my children around? (Love your videos sooo much! Fellow New Englander)
Get out of the indoor bowling alley lane and find a great outdoors range where you can shoot IDPA. You will use concealment, learn cover, movement and be timed which adds stress. My range also has a tac house to learn room clearing, hostige situation, moving targets ect. After shooting IDPA an indoor range will only be used to sight in a new gun.You can shoot IDPA as what I call a gamer or use it just for your self defense training .I wear my everyday clothes, holster and gun. My regular training partner is a sergeant on DPD homicide div., I have also had the luxury of shooting with a couple of the swat officers, and those guys are phenomenal.
My local indoor range restricts the type and style of shooting. Drawing from the holster, movent etc. Low ready position is the most they allow. I try and compensate by means of dry fire at home using snap caps.
Wow! Watching this right as I finished my dry fire draw and fire drills with my dry fire training. Even time myself! Getting better every day with your help. Thanks you two!
I'm excited to see the training with airsoft guns video. I never thought of using them for self-defense training. Love your videos they help me a lot as new CCW 🥰
TRex Arms did a video on that and it blew away most of the gun community lol
3 роки тому
I first trained with pellet guns using only hollow points, Ive never used BB guns and I never would, there's a big difference, little do people realize that.. I still keep them all, even though I own a live firearm heck you never know....
It’s a great raining tool for sure, I taught my children the rules of gun safety and range procedures using airsoft guns on a range I set up in our back yard.
I have to practice more ( especially from the conceal carry holster AND both eyes open). Now also going to the range with the pastor and his wife now. Sending this on to them. Thank you so much.
Great advice... the only suggestion I would add is that it's more prudent to look your pistol into the holster when you're through with the "gunfight"... the threat is over at that point, and there's no reason to hurry the pistol into the holster blindly and chance something going wrong unnecessarily...
Great video. Thank you both. My gun range doesn't let you draw from CC or a holster, but I practice clearing bad rounds, and quick-change mags (and I never fill them all the way up, so I don't know when they'll run out). Looking forward to the air-soft practice video. :)
Hey Stav in Mack This is so true. I just came into an amazing opportunity to go train at Front sight here in my state. Im super excited its a 4 day class. I will be taking my learning to a whole new level. I will let you know how it goes. Me shooting left handed. Ugh. A last resort my strength is not great. Lots of practice
You are right. Most gun ranges will totally allow you to stand there and shoot between 25 ft and 200 yd. You cannot practice drawing you cannot practice anything that relates to self defense. The range I used to belong to Tacoma rifle and revolver is exactly that. It's a good place to get a feel for how the gun reacts when you pull the trigger and that's it. Self defense is what happens when some big nasty person gets within two or three feet of you and hopefully your gun comes out and completes the deal. Good video
Really love your channel because it's so practical. Thanks for all the great content! :) My husband and I were just doing some room clearance training last night in our apartment. We have an airsoft that we've taken out into the woods to practice moving and shooting.
Would love to see videos with self defense training tips using your carry firearm (not a toy) from your carry holster using a laser dry fire round. I think that could be effective practice, especially since so many ranges prohibit drawing from concealment.
As far as accuracy when you shoot long you'll automatically improve at short distance. If you shoot at 25 yards accurately you'll easily hit 5 yards. There is a major benefit to longer distances.
Question for Mack/future video: how do you find a range/individual that will let/teach you to shoot self defense rather than target shooting? What to look for and how to judge whether they are a good option or "80's karate" pretenders
Ken? Did you talk about the other 2 incidents elsewhere?
This has become my favorite channel. Thank you both so much!
Love how you guys focus on guns from a pragmatic self defense perspective.
Mac, what's your favorite quick access safe for in the home and favorite safe for car or traveling (especially with kids around)?
You're both so genuine in your videos...love it. Thank you for all the info.
This channel does a good job of being self defense oriented without the YT operator cosplay … I’m enjoying it, thanks.
Thanks Jeremy! We’re glad you like it :)
So glad to see you guys starting another series on this subject!
Skilled instruction without attitude!
Love you two.

I watch a lot of gun channels, this one is one of the best!!! Truth, logic and common sense.
I know you guys will get tired of this. The two of you are awesome! And I value your information more than you know. GREAT STUFF!

You guys turned me on to active self defense channel. You are right, it's a great learning experience
Same. I started following it from the last video they mentioned it. I love the two channels. I do also like Warrior Poet Society too.
I work at a LGS and range in TX and have been sending lots of ladies to your channel. Thanks for the very good content and a great resource away from the range for my clients.

The best self defense focused video I have seen. Thank you for a reality-based presentation. I want more so I subscribed.
You two do such a wonderful job! I am a female that is new to guns and shooting. Your videos have helped train me even more. I really appreciate your expertise and the information you share. Thank you so much
I am so glad I found this channel! You are an inspiration to new and female shooters! Thanks, Stav and Mac!
I can not WAIT for a BB gun video to practice at home. The closest range to me doesn’t even allow to draw from my holster so to be able to practice at home for scenarios would be awesome! Like always this video was so awesome and informative.
To me this is one of the better channels on firearms on UA-cam you guys are doing an excellent job thank you
Hi from Florida! ☺️
My questions-
How did you both meet?
How to get over the fear of shooting at ranges when other people are around? I feel fine if it’s just me or the person I went with, but when other people are in the lanes around me, I get worried. (A combo of being paranoid that the stranger is crazy or accidents happening ) basically I don’t trust strangers with guns lol

Google "Melody Lauer"
Stav and Mac thank you for your creative drills and suggestions for the range. It really helps maximize the time at the range!!
Thank you for this excellent self defense advice.
Thanks for the great advice. Good exercises for a limited range.
Request for Mack, can you teach a little bit on how to learn point shooting
My local indoor range restricts the type and style of shooting. Drawing from the holster, movent etc.
Low ready position is the most they allow.
I try and compensate by means of dry fire at home using snap caps.
Wow! Watching this right as I finished my dry fire draw and fire drills with my dry fire training. Even time myself! Getting better every day with your help. Thanks you two!
Yay! Love to see you both!
Thanks Brittany! Hope you like the video :)
You guys do a great job. Thank you 💜
I'm excited to see the training with airsoft guns video. I never thought of using them for self-defense training.
Love your videos they help me a lot as new CCW 🥰
TRex Arms did a video on that and it blew away most of the gun community lol
I first trained with pellet guns using only hollow points, Ive never used BB guns and I never would, there's a big difference, little do people realize that.. I still keep them all, even though I own a live firearm heck you never know....
It’s a great raining tool for sure, I taught my children the rules of gun safety and range procedures using airsoft guns on a range I set up in our back yard.
I have to practice more ( especially from the conceal carry holster AND both eyes open). Now also going to the range with the pastor and his wife now. Sending this on to them. Thank you so much.
Mac and Stav, how do prepare for the loud noise of shooting in self defense since at the range we have ear protection
Metal music 😂
I'm kidding but not really
@ they actually have answered some of my questions in some of their videos.
Virginia Citizens Defense League linked us to your video!
I already follow your channel, but I hope this gets you more views! Great job on the video!
I love the active self defense channel! Thank you for suggesting it!
Thank you, this is what I’ve been wanting to learn. I can’t wait till the next video.
I need to find a decent range when ammo becomes available someday. Most ranges don't even allow draw from the holster.
That's not right. The whole point of practice is to be efficient and confident pulling and shooting. Life counts on it.
You guys have terrific energy together. Keep it up
Great advice... the only suggestion I would add is that it's more prudent to look your pistol into the holster when you're through with the "gunfight"... the threat is over at that point, and there's no reason to hurry the pistol into the holster blindly and chance something going wrong unnecessarily...
Good advice
Great advice. I break down my handgun practice into thirds, one third two-handed, one third strong hand only, and one third weak hand only.
Great video. Thank you both. My gun range doesn't let you draw from CC or a holster, but I practice clearing bad rounds, and quick-change mags (and I never fill them all the way up, so I don't know when they'll run out). Looking forward to the air-soft practice video. :)
Hey good to see you Stav and Mac! This is useful as always, iron sharpens iron. Be vigilant and aware. Thanks.
Hey Stav in Mack
This is so true. I just came into an amazing opportunity to go train at Front sight here in my state. Im super excited its a 4 day class. I will be taking my learning to a whole new level. I will let you know how it goes.
Me shooting left handed. Ugh. A last resort my strength is not great. Lots of practice
Thanks for another great informational video! Looking forward to the next one as always!
Stav + Mac, y'all are my favorite people on UA-cam! Thank you so much for your informative videos! xx
Good video
I always learn so much from y’all! Great tip about the BB gun!
I really enjoy the video’s you two do! Thank you.
You two are friggen legendary. Thanks for everything
Try looking for Simunition Courses.
@@youngspectre5356 Good idea thanks
Find someone local! There's alot of help out there!
What kind of safety glasses do you use..? And do have different ones for outdoor and indoor gun range
Thank you for this video. Always great information. That would be awesome to have a video with air soft/BB gun exercises.
Under five minutes in on video and loving it. Could not agree more.
Watching in Jan 2022. New to the channel. Your guys' smiles are so wide and happy. You two are awesome. Real good stuff.
