Coming Home With Another L10A Cosmo - Saving A Cosmo Pt2

  • A good chunk of progress in 4 days on Bardan's Cosmo. I've unexpectedly become an L10A owner whilst on a trip with my wife to pick up parts for the Cosmo I'm currently restoring. It's in equally as bad condition and has also been used as a parts car. A perfect candidate for a perimeter cut and to be placed on an MX5 floor pan.

    I love the craftsmanship, lots of time and patience getting these together. I'm pleased that you have shared your plans for the bodies, it makes understanding the process that is being followed a bit easier. I enjoy a good restomod making cars suit the time, the improved handling, stopping power and running gear. Sure if these were trailer queens then let them be. I admire that your willing to give such coroded/damaged cars a go. 😊

    • @notevn
      @notevn  Рік тому +2

      Roughing them out in their current state is the easy and fast part, adding more and more detail and perfecting them is where the time is, and is one of those things where you could spend a whole week on an area removing imperfections and to most people it will look the exact same like you haven't been doing any work haha.

    Mate that's really good progress in just a few days and so interesting to watch. I thought the car I picked up recently was rusty but it's not as bad as the poor old Cosmo. I had a sit in one of these once, I wouldn't wanna be much taller (I'm just on 6 foot), I was surprised by how small they actually are.

    • @notevn
      @notevn  Рік тому +2

      Haha yeah they are tiny. The roof height is the same as my coupe and that's got 30mm sill to ground clearence. And the cosmo has like 300 sill to ground haha.

  • @_Bonez12
    @_Bonez12 Рік тому +1

    With the kind of work you're doing here, may be worth getting some kind of gopro with a head/chest mount so you can just film and get things done. I can only imagine how much longer all of this takes while having to stop to record it all.

    • @notevn
      @notevn  Рік тому

      I've tried them the go pro chest mount and normal holding it on a stick and tripod, it is too zoomed out with the fisheye that it makes showing detail impossible, takes a few seconds to record like this so it's no stress at all to me.

    • @EH-mh4it
      @EH-mh4it Рік тому

      The NC MX5 shares a lot with the RX8, they both have more modern suspension design than the earlier NA and NB MX5s too. The RX8/NC chassis might be a bit too big for the Cosmo though.

    when you made the dogleg and overlapped the old panel (front and rear) would that now cause the new panel to be approx 2mm wider? also would it be an option to just make the body out of aluminium considering the amount of new panels you've had to make? loving the videos 👍

    • @notevn
      @notevn  Рік тому +1

      Yes slightly larger openings when overlapped, but super easy to tighten up the arches 1mm a side after the panel below is removed, I find it's a much better method so it makes sure the panel is the exact same as what is there shapewise, instead of cutting it off first and then guessing that shape and where is supposed to be, something I see time and time again people cut a patch out first, and it never ends up right or they come back to it a week later and forget how it even looks.atleast with this you've lost nothing and can make the whole panel before removing anything even if it takes you weeks between working on it.
