AWD does almost the whole thing. Without it you just struggle like seen in the video. I hate it, I also have to deal with it. Driving loss would be an issue over 100 kph, but that wings on the Civic may result in a quite high air resistance. The Civic never had a chance. The same cars (in terms of power and air resistance, not in weight and drive loss) - one with AWD, one with FWD - will end in almost the same time for 0 to 200 kph. But the Drag Race will end sooner. @@Charmer4856 But...you will have to shift more. Or it doesn't make a big difference, because the higher gears don't effect the lower speed acceleration and there are literally two or three overdrives. That is the case with the 9G Tronic (Mercedes). Nowadays chances are low that all 8, 9 or 10 gears were used for maximum performance. With the DQ381 it means, you are in 5th gear at the end of the drag strip. It is possible that a manual transmission would be in 4 th gear. I'm too lazy to compare the gear ratios of both cars...
@@robertmcdonald9762 Yeah, it wouldn't make much difference, though it shouldn't be ignored. But every German car manufacturer (with petrol cars I've driven) uses only six of their seven, eight or nine gears for (limited) maximum speed (~250-260 kph). Every higher gear is an 'overdrive' to save fuel and to reduce noice. A six speed manual transmission could do the same - just without an overdrive, so it's not really eco friendly and noice reducing. Like I said... I don't know what is the case with the Civic Type R. My last car with six speed manual transmission (from VAG) had a totally useless 6th gear for maximum performance. Maybe Honda drives a different way and (almost) redlines the car in 6th car, so they are not much different. But... the gear shifts will take much more time, even with some clever electronic innovations and if you torture the clutch. Around 300 ms at least for each gear change... When there is a R in the gauge cluster of the Golf R makes me feel like I'm in reverse lol
This new R is a force to be reckoned with no doubt. It’s going to be up there with the A45 and RS3 no doubt. Crazy

Guy in the Civic, seems like such a humble and nice bloke 👍 But wow what a difference launch control and a dual clutch make, damn that Golf is fast 😳
Surely much more humble than many Honda fans here on the comments section.
AWD makes the biggest difference
This seem more interesting than my zoom class
Im about to teach my zoom lecture, and I agree :D
Definitely 😂
If you want to cheat the soft/rev limiter, let the car slightly roll at very low speeds and set the gear to N and then you’ll able to rev all the way to the red spot.
I think the second drag race was the best drag race on UA-cam 😂
Drag rape...
And even with the headstart Honda fans will stay it’s not a fair race 🤣🤣🤣
Oh dear this is gonna upset a lot of Type R owners....
Manual vs manual would have been a more fair race. That being said the Mk8 is a beast
No, run the fastest versions of each car.
We don’t get the manual in the uk I think
I love the Golf and always have but I think I might purchase that Type R and still have it running great 20 years later.

Honda’s tend to have electric problems. Toyota, Nissan, Mazda are better.
lets see the track battle!
The VW is not a track car; the Honda, with all its exterior plastic excess and 10,000 mile tires, must be.
But this is a DragRace! You are in the wrong place!
I bet the Golf is only marginally slower.
Roger Sears and the Civic Type R is not a drag car mate
How many times do you go to a track? Even if the type r got the golf r on the top end it doesn’t make a difference. How many times do you drive until you are 125 mph? The golf destroyed the type r. Period.
Since you mentioned a lap time comparison, you should do one!
I’ve got a CTR FK8. Plenty of cars can beat it 0-60, 1/4 mile ect... but it isn’t built as a straight line drag car. It’s super powers are braking, handling and no top speed limiting. Also, at least in Australia, you can no longer order one because all the ones being built up to the (July?) factory closure are spoken for.
this video should be titled : mat trying to annoy honda's driver
LC, AWD, Dual C gearbox Vs. FWD manual.... I wonder how its going to turn out.
We all knew the Golf R would win easily. This wasn't even a race 😂
yeah its kinda pointless. dragraces between hothatches are kinda dumb in the first place. thats just not what they are for. i want times on a twisty mountain road. now that tells you more.
Yep. Since no corners are ever involved, the Golf wins. It's certainly all that's needed in the UK, where none of you is much use around a corner, I've noticed.

@@Isclachau better than that honda, it looks like they let a 9 year old with autism design that car with crayons.
@@Isclachau This explains the difference between German engineering and Japanese engineering, the Germans simply make the better cars in terms of speed, power and overall performance. This Honda Civic type R is an embarrassment the fact that it’s FWD says a lot as-well.
I actually prefer the look of the honda. It looks angry.
@@omarmahmood5011 The type r wasn’t designed for drag racing. It’s happiest on a track. The golf r will be looking at the Civic’s tail lights by the end of the first corner. With a £7,000 difference in price, the Honda engine can be pushed north of 400 hp and all will be even. And the enjoyment of a perfect manual shifter can’t be communicated in numbers. Honda does many things right (excluding exterior design).
VW are as honest with horsepower as they are emissions 😂
