I'm a Christian that grew up in a very abusive household and encountered God in a very powerful way in 2017. So I know all about spiritual warfare. The best thing you can do is pray everyday even if they're just short prayers to keep yourself close to God. I remember my dad always singing this to me when I was a kid. Always saying “ARE YOU TALKIN TO ME? NO WAY PUNK” He had all the Pantera CDs and always told me how good of a guitar player Dimebag was. I’m 19 so obviously I never got to experience these guys while they were still active but he made them sound like the greatest band to ever exist. He died very unexpectedly when I was 16, he was only 43. That messed me up for a long time, I’m still probably not the same as I was before, I’ve tried therapy and anti depressants but they don’t bring him back. This song reminds me of hanging out in the living room watching TV with him, making Mac n Cheese at 3 in the fucking morning 😂 and going sledding in the deep ass snow we get in Michigan. This one time me and him got on a sled together and our combined weight made us haul ASS down this massive hill that led straight into a frozen pond, we ended up like halfway across that fucking thing. Goddamn the more I get older the more I realize how similar we were. He taught me a lot of things, a lot of things I’ll never forget, and he’s one of them. I couldn’t forget him if I tried. I know I wasn’t the perfect son and he wasn’t the perfect dad but I hope if he can still see me that he’s proud. I don’t know if there’s an afterlife but man i really want there to be, I’d love to talk to him again, to at least say goodbye. I guess that’s what every person that lost a parent feels like, it feels unfair and it probably is but what are you gonna do about it. I don’t expect sympathy or pity I’m just leaving this here so whenever I come back to this video years down the road I can read this and remember all the good times we had together. RIP Shawn (1976-2019) ❤️ I’ll make sure my kids know how good of a man you were.
