M240i vs. Supra vs. Nissan Z. The $50k question. Which would you rather drive?? As long as the Z lives up to the hype (I'll be driving it soon), I'll have that one.

I'd have to wait and see how the tuning companies roll out their flashes. If this car can be unlocked and flashes aren't nearly impossible like they are on the b58tu then I'd be very happy to drive the m240i. Like I said in your other post, I currently drive an xdrive car and it's amazing how they rip off the line. I wouldnt be surprised if people could be running 10s on stock turbos and well into the 9s with aftermarket turbos.

This with a tune and you’ve got a winner. Add quad exhaust and you won’t worry about the M2 if you don’t care about a manual transmission like me😅
I'll help clear up any confusion here as a seasoned M car owner. The M240i is an M car and has been for the past 2 years. The B58 engine, throttle mapping, suspension / chassis, M LSD, brakes, exhaust, etc are all developed by M division and M performance models are listed in the M GmbH global sales figures along with the M2. (not standard BMW GmbH sales figures). It's clearly listed as BMW M on the 2 series build page, ask BMW M and they will tell you. BMW is finally aligning with AMG the past 2 years where they have 2 versions of an M car (A35 AMG vs A45 AMG for example). The A35 is an AMG car even though it's not the higher end track version A45. The M240i is the same...an M performance model whereas the M2 is the "full M" track car. The 2022 M240i is faster than last years M2 comp as you mentioned, people are trading in their old M2 for this car for a reason, they don't just randomly throw an M badge on the back of a car unless it's developed by M division just like AMG would never do that. I think the issue here is that they slap M badges all over the place on the interior of "M Sport package" on standard cars like the 230, 330, etc which are definitely not developed by M division and make a lot of purists upset, which I can align with. MB and Audi does the same thing with the "AMG Sport" and "S Sport" packages on base line models, it sells so that's not going anywhere anytime soon. Hopefully that clears up any confusion even though some people will still be stuck in the past, and that's fine too.
Yes, big differences between the "standard" cars and any of the M Sport cars such as the M240i. It's great for accessibility in the average consumers world where they want a taste of M but without beating themselves up on their daily commute, either. The M240i, especially with the adaptive suspension, feels like 80% of an M car. The steering is a bit lost, though. The problem that cannot be escaped is this just naturally has diluted brands like M and AMG over the years. Previously it was either M or not M. Simple. Now the lines are blurred, causing conversations like this. Blurred lines cause confusion, confusion causes dilution.

And yes the steering is too soft, I think some better tires would help just a bit and I’m not a fan of the brakes either, you may have noticed you needed to really hammer it down to stop aggressively. For such a fast car with the weight it should have better brakes IMO even though the calipers and pads are big it doesn’t feel that way.
Very true. The only thing is if you look at a full M car they still don't say it is a track car. For example the fuel tank has issues cornering as hard as the car can, and BMW will say it isn't track ready lol

@@AutobahnSoCal Yea, it's a weak excuse for the fuel tank issues though. But I know the stripped down M4s make some really amazing track cars so really no shade towards the M cars. I mean, I want one myself just to try and track it
F87 M2 Competition and CS came with a S55...not S58. S58 is in the new G series M3/M4 and the new X3M. The regular F87 M2 has a N55.

Just put a deposit on this car, but with the M Pro package. I love how it looks. My current ND2 is just too small and I need rear seats. I contemplated waiting for the M2, but I actually won’t ever use the M2’s performance on the street. I really think this 240i is a perfect blend of performance and daily. Also good for winter.
How long do you think you’ll be waiting?

This are exactly the 3 models that I was comparing! I also prefer the m240 with the xDrive, useful to put the power down. Now to add the the mix you can do further comparison video, and maybe include how this compares to m340i
Great video and well presented however, several times you said the B58 is a TwinTurbo. It is in fact a single turbo with a twin scroll . I hate to nitpick, but just had to mention it. I enjoyed the video!
The last gen M2 and the Supra still look way better so there's that.
I tend to agree with you on this.. Although the Supra is a good looking car, it's far from perfect.
I wish the Supra had a better looking front end (no O-face), and better visibility from the cockpit... I'd probably have one already. Instead I am taking delivery of an M240 in a month or so.

Totally agree... I love my Turbo donks to let me know they are spooling up and are about to break lose... the anticipation is a thrill.
I would still go for the old M2C or the Supra even if they are slower.
The new 2 series needs time to become beautiful in my opinion.
But I admit that the B58 in a BMW AG (not real M) car is not to be underestimated. (I have a M140i F20 sDrive manual as daily)

I’m an M240i F chasis owner and I find the new M240i pretty Handsome, honestly I love both the M2 and this, and if this M240i is fast, then the new 2023 M2 is going to insane

My 2024 m240i, xdrive (900 miles) is right now at the "accessory" division of the BMW shop, waiting on its ECU to come back from Germany. My wife and I took it to the BMW tuner physician last Thursday. Poor thing was immediately transferred to Intensive Care; be there at least a week. Some sort of sleeping disorder, they said. No matter, it's all diagnosed and everything now, so all is well. The Doc assured us they'd wake it up! All seriousness aside, I can't wait to get that thing back. It was already a monster, but now . . . . M division, Swimm division, who cares. Tune that sucker and it'll smoke not only yesterday's m2, but, well, you got the picture.
The S58 is not in the M2, at least not yet. Besides that great video 10/10 :)

Its gonna be between the manual supra & the Z for me, maybe if the hint at a nismo version i’ll be sold lol

If I didn’t have a M2C I’d get this or wait for the new M2
The front end actually has some older gen z3/z4 vibes and the rear end is actually somewhat reminiscent of the old M4 in some ways, I think I would take this car over the supra or Z, It may be worth waiting for the RWD but even with it being slightly heavier this would be a great daily, and with a tune this thing would be well above 400 horse and torque.
This car is rwd biased tho i drove one yesterday and turned tc off and it was literally a rwd car

On paper yes the M240i is faster and better grips with the xdrive. But in real world it is so disconnected with the driver it's no longer a true BMW. The old M2 on the other hand, is a true driver's machine and you never get sick of driving it
But the selling point for the new M2 is the AWD no?

Great performer but I just can't get behind the looks of this car. The outgoing M2 was a beauty. I hope they can improve on this with the upcoming M2, but I'm worried to be honest.

The 240i has really grown on me - I like the looks and performance but the biggest selling point for me (at this stage of my life) are the rear seats. The bummer is all that weight though… just why. The Z is the best looking, by a long shot, of the trio.

what people fail to also mention is the z is fully loaded at 52k all the other cars are base priced

I am with you on this one at 100%... Who need a M2 slower with the manuel shift and without AWD ? I live in Montreal, Quebec and a AWD is a good think to have here. I am a former race driver and this BMW have everything I need to be happy in a car! Don't tell my wife a do some lapping at ICAR the weekend... Issshhhh!!! Luxury 4 seaters car during the week and a racer the weekend at affordable price. Car and Driver claims 0-60mph at 3,6s and 1/4 mile at 11,8s@114mph WOWWW it's faster then the new RWD M2 for less $$$... Can I say also, it's a bargain !!!

I've had the BMW 240 I for about a year and a half. I owned a 2018 M2 with a six speed and ended up selling it. My own opinion is that the newer 240i is a superior car. More power, better ride, faster

As a current owner of this car and a previous owner off several “real” M cars I don’t understand your logic saying it’s not a M car. The car is built by BMW with performance parts with M division input so they can call it a M240i.
And funny enough, it's faster than a normal M3 because of the xDrive lol.
With performance so similar, the looks of the car plays the biggest role here. That being said, the M240i has got to be one of the worst designed cars in a while on a purely aesthetic basis. The Supra probably has the most aggressive/modern looks whereas the Z is more dialed back and reserved/retro. The Supra and the Z would be 1A and 1B with regards to looks, with the Supra being a better performance car between the two and therefore taking the crown. All the M240i had to do was make a digestible design but good lord they dropped the ball on that one and I am a BIG TIME BMW fan :/
You haven't seen one in real life. I have one and in pictures and videos from far away. It looks like shit; but up close, the proportions make sense.

The beautiful purple paint cannot mask the unfortunately designed body styling. The taillights also do not suit the framework of the car at ALL. Their tiny sizing + significant lateral placement make them akin to hammerhead sharks from the rear, and that is one ugly mf’er pardon my French. It’s a general consensus that the M240i is one ugly car, but a heck of a performance car!

@@BudiandLeo I will say, the M240i’s design is starting to grow on me. I’m glad it doesn’t look like a beaver in the front like the 3/4 series. With that said, the taillights looks very very cheap. They look like an FRS tbh. Cheap Tonka toy.
If you think "it's faster" is a reason to get a car you shouldn't get an M car... The reason people get the M2 is for driver engagement and feel. Not to mention a manual transmission for those that really want the full experience.

Apparently, even SoCal gets snow. So the M240 xDrive is magic. If you build them online, it's shocking how many things do not come on the Asian cars for $58K, or at all. Numerous BMW things aren't even offered, especially given the Supra is a Z4--but it's a very old-feeling Z4.
My local dealerships are all right next to each other, so you can go from car to car. The exteriors are all striking, althought he Supra is not aging well. Perhaps, what's the most striking is how the Asian cars have such cheap interiors. If they didn't have screens, you'd think a Corolla had a better interior. And you'd also think they were from 2012.
In what universe does the new m240i look good?
Faster than prevous M2? Yes but that is expected. Why would anyone make their next gen sport car slower? Better looking? Maybe to some. My neighbor has an M240i and that thing is as basic as they come. Hope the new M2 improves the design significantly over that simple thing the 240i is.

It's not a 2022 m2, it's a m240i. He's not comparing the same car in each generation.
I own a 2021 BMW M2C. The interior is basic. I completely agree. Looks wise, however, I think the car is gorgeous on the exterior. The way the M2C drives is where the car truly shines. It suits me very well as a daily driver while giving me what I want. (decent power and a manual gearbox).
I swear to god why can these companies never combine everything I want into one model?! How about an XDrive manual Supra, or a manual M240i?

It’s great marketing to those who aren’t //M purists, but to those who are, it’s horrible marketing. As an //M purist myself, I couldn’t allow myself to spend over $50k for a car that has //M badges on it, but in the back of my mind I know it isn’t a real //M car. For that reason alone, I would buy an older M2. But I do understand from a marketing perspective why BMW is doing this. I don’t agree with it, but it is what it is. At least I have the pleasure of mocking people who buy these types of BMW’s, because they drive around like they own something special, when really, it’s just a regular 2-series. I don’t care how fast it is from the factory…

I think your too focused on power and 0-60 the previous m2 has work done to the subframe, suspension, brakes, and chassis to make it a real m car. The new m240 is simply quick in a straight line.

I don't think your argument 'it's faster than the old M2' is really a worthy one.
It's only faster to 60 because it's xDrive. It isn't faster around corners or look anywhere near as good.
Any B58 engine car can be made much faster for little money. My M140i destroys last gen M2's as it now has 455bhp/634nm, but I'd still much rather have an older M2, because everything else about it is better (suspension, brakes, styling, etc).

Supra and it's not even a question. This car is ugly. Just imagine dating a girl that's great inside and out instead of just the inside. Nissan Z is a hard last.

Alright:
#1. The Supra ruined itself and has been ruined since it came out, so this car isn’t even a discussion.
#2. These 2-series owners keep comparing their brand new 2-series to older M2’s.
Number two is why this shouldn’t even be a discussion because history shows that almost every time a newer 3-series has come out, it has been better than the previous gen M3. The same applies to the newer 2-series lineup of models. The new M2 hasn’t come out yet, and when it does, it will 100% be better than this new 2-series. 100%! I’d still take an older M2 though lol. Just because it’s a real //M. I don’t want to spend $50-60k to rep a fake //M lol.
So let’s stop comparing apples to oranges please. It’s getting to be as annoying as politics is.

Last gen. M2 was based off the Mini. . . Ewwwwww'
the Mini was based on the old 1 series but with FWD.
the 2 series was also based on the 1 series but both had RWD drivetrains with optional xDrive (like B58 or N55 in their M Performance Models).
the new 1 series is basically a Mini and the 2 series is something completely different.
the old M2 and M2C have almost nothing in common with the Mini
@@alexl8893 All that is totally irrelevant. New BMW's are trash. They couldn't i;clude a manual option in the new 230 or whatever it's called, smh. That alone banished it to "Mini" status. Now a days you'd come out better getting a Nissan and calling it a day...
