I've got four Teles in my collection, a Squire Classic vibe, Korean Bear Claw, Fender Jim Root and a Allparts Partscaster(looks like the 60 model in this vid ) with an insane flame Maple neck (Maple board) that has Tonerider Vintage Hot pups in it. I can't speak highly enough about these pickups that I got for it.... I'd suggest anybody to check these out before going my usual aftermarket Seymour Duncan, EMG or DiMarzio pups that I've used in the past.. Plus they are WAY cheaper and they don't lack tone AT ALL !!!!!

After a few years of knowing about this channel and enjoying quite some of the episodes, I just came back here with a more experienced view in my birthday to hear those wise man talk about teles as I am on a search for one.
Morning coffee, some sunlight, the master's talking... What else? Probably not much more to feel happy today. Thank you both for all the work you've done with all those vids.

Telecaster, nocaster, broadcaster, esquire any way you put them together and regardless of what you call them. Unquestionably my favorite Fender guitar. From 50th Les Paul is like a Corvette a thing of beauty that works incredibly well the Telecaster is like a goddamn pickup truck and there's nothing wrong with a pickup truck

Having the Internet has educated humans and we now know conversation in THIS OLD STYLE is full of WRONG INFORMATION. we now realise we can speak for 1 million humans. Doug and pat didn't get the memo! They still claim to speak for 1 million humans. By saying a feature of the telecaster wasn't popular, is now a FALSE STATEMENT. Humans can't generalise anymore. It seemed that way in the stupid idiot 1970's, but we know today that was a stupid way to think. ALOT of wrong comments are being said by these silly old fools.

@@dreyn7780 I’m 2 years out reading your post here getting a headache, and coffee aint helpin’. I’m trying to grasp what grasp you’re attempting and that ain’t helpin either, Skeeter. Generalizations referenced here are at the 10,000 ft, broad market view. It’s how the Tele evolved. You bitchin about the 70’s generalization...is ironically a generalization. Just stick to the fun spirit of the show from the guys here, and see it as freedom of expression. Or feel free to post a video about incorrect 1970’s generalizations how bout?

Fred Gretsch Co. didn't sue Fender over their use of the name Broadcaster. Gretsch, at the time, was producing a drum kit named Broadkaster, and sent a letter to Fender kindly requesting they immediately cease using the name--and Fender complied. Competitors were a lot more civil in those days.

At least it wasn’t open theft like what is happening with the Chinese openly putting the name Gibson,Rickenbacker,Fender etc on their guitars.aThere is nothing the Chinese will refuse to copy and if they can put Gibson’s name on a Chibson to make money they will. With any luck Mr Trump might put an end to that theft which will put US companies out of business if it isn’t addressed.

    • @leftienigeblank4320
      @leftienigeblank4320 5 років тому

And the consequence was that when Fender put a vibrato bar on early Strats , they were worried of the same thing happening again . Gretsch had Bigsby Vibratos.
So Fender misnamed it a Tremolo, which is a variation of volume , not pitch .

i had one of the 1983 '52 reissues and figured out the in between thing with the pickup selector after a couple days of playing it. i eventually just rewired it to modern spec, but it was fun to do. the switch was jumpy, though. if you breathed too hard, it would jump to one of the other positions. :)
thanks for showing some love to the tele. the similarities between les pauls and teles are unmistakable, due to the geometry.

There is a Telecaster with a pine body (butterschotch blonde) in current production, the Squier Calssic Vibe 50´, maple neck, "kluson" type tuners and Toneriders AlNiCo V pickups, It´s been in production since 2009 and still is, It´s about 400 bucks brand new, and is a hell of a guitar. Brass saddles BTW. It´s a dream guitar. I have one myself and love it. Waiting for the next show guys!!!

Boy, that Vox is a magical amp. Rather than the pickups imparting their tone on the amp, the Vox imparts it's tone on whatever guitar you play through it - and a killer tone it is. Request - On the next Tele show, find a sweet 70's mocha brown Tele custom and tune it to open G ala Keef. Great 50 minutes and 34 seconds!

Nice to see you back boys! My first real guitar was a Tele sunburst new in 1972 with a rosewood board. Some nice Tele tones and the pine body sounded sweet. I thought at 27.30 Doug got some almost Oscar sounds! None the less, Doug did not sound so comfortable with the Fenders, I think you are more a Gibson player? It is obvious the Vox amp really colours the sound, such a sweet amp! All the best from Spain.

Wow! I made the SAME double neck! Only, I wasn't hearing what I wanted, so I Crazy glued a Loar signed Gibson mandolin to the bottom and screwed an active EMG to it. It's wired "on" at all times so I can hear it's overtones while playing the guitars. Oh. All are tuned to drop "C",...as in every string. It rocks!
Seriously, I love Tele's. Always have at least one in my stable.

The Telecaster is truly the 'Model A Ford' of guitars, that is, it is simple, ubiquitous, utilitarian and bulletproof. It is designed that every part can be replaced and therefore opens itself to modifications. (like the hot rod) The long scale length gives it that sweet tone, and although it makes is tougher to bend notes, it is well worth the effort. If you want a different feeling neck, a rosewood neck you can have it. I often tout the virtues of the addition of the four position switch that opens up a broad spectrum of sounds, similar to the 'in-between' three position switch you demonstrated here. Mounting the pickups directly to the body also gives them amazing sustain and grit. (unlike the Strat where the pickups are mounted to the pickguard, which I don't think was a good sound decision) I have built a half dozen Telecasters (Franken-casters) from parts and they are some of the best guitars I have ever played.

Now that I've built quite a few of these guitars and have expanded musically with age I've come to not only appreciate but fall in love with the telecaster platform, it really can do it all. That 53 Tele sounds just awesome with the 51 Deluxe amp! Such a beefy and dynamic voice without any of that skinny thin sound some more modern Tele/amp combinations seem to have. This is the real stuff! I wonder what strings are on here.
And yeah: Jimmy Bryant deserves all the credit and rememberance he can possibly get - he was so amazing especially in his days with Speedy West. As a duo they were just incredible - really blew my basically 60s to 70s rock mind when I only discovered them later in later life. The sky seemed to be the limit for what they could do on their instruments and that an early Tele (or Broadcaster) was among those is just the icing on the cake...

I had a Nocaster (custom shop reissue) with the original wiring and there was no tone control. The tone knob was really a blend control so when the switch was in the bridge position you turned the knob to have it fully on the bridge pup or rolled it forward to have it blend with the neck pup. if the switch was in the middle then it was just on the neck pup. so in essence, both pups are wide open. Your tone would have to come from the amp only. The forward position was on the "bass sound". Remember, the electric bass was a year away from being invented yet.

Love you guys, I’m hoping for more vids. Love the Kemper version of the AC-10 SRT.
Why doesn’t Pat play? It’s obvious Doug is an accomplished player, but I’d wager Pat’s no slouch either.

The pine one sounds really killer. It would be nice to listen to them through other amps on an eventual "part 2" of this. Thx Doug and Pat.

Wow, there's a Jimmy Bryant interview on UA-cam , very much worth hearing. Among other things Jimmy says that Eric Clapton is (was) a big fan of his ! Wonderful stories of the music business just after WWII.

That John Brown Tele looked and sounded fantastic. I liked the '52 reissue though, as possibly the most versatile of them all. Has to age a bit and it'll be awesome ;-)
