No doubts very interesting watch. Not for everyone, but has something special. 700$ + import taxes though... That's a territory where Longine is starting to quietly knock the door
Those floating indexes are super cool. The bracelet to case integration reminds me a bit the Archimede Outdoor Project. Seems like it would be a neat addition to any collection... for the right price.
@@jasonluxemburg1989 I own two Spinnakers, a Wreck an a Hunley. Excellent quality and I’ve never seen anything remotely similar on Ali Express. In fact I’ve never seen anything similar on Ali express. Can you point me in the right direction? I’d be interested in a cheaper one as they’re better than all my Ali express watches.
i had a Rotary mechanical watch with the same style of strap attachment that used traditional spring bars where the ends attached to holes in the strap resulting in the strap becoming the lugs. when i had to replace the strap due to faulty links i presented it to my local watchmaker he just said "oh great it's one of those continental cases" he said it's near impossible to get one from rotary but i know i have an alternative, he went in the back of the shop & returned with a strap made by Seiko so they must have used this style of case as well, anyway he offered it up to the watch & it matched perfectly & told me to come back in an hour as fitting the strap could be a nightmare. went back strap fitted everyone happy well i was. enjoyed the video.
Quite a nice looking watch. The look of the indices is fantastic and original. The lug width or lack of might be a little concerning, however, I like the look with the bracelet and the rubber strap. It has an integrated look, which I like very much. The hi-beat Miyota is a bonus. I tend to lean towards the bigger watches so, yes, I like this watch a lot. I wasn't sure about the green color but I really like it as well. Great watch. Great review. Thanks for sharing.
A new concept with floating indices, it’s nice to see some fresh innovation on a watch I really like this watch and the colour is amazing, I always pick green when choosing colour on watches it goes with so many types of coloured shirts or T-shirts. Lovely watch mate and a damned fine review might I say. 👏😉🍻
Thanks for the video. I have had 2 other Spinnakers. The Dumas and the Bradner. Still have the Bradner. Been concidering this one, but other watches (Academic) jump in its path. They have a 25% sale 3 or 4 times a year and a 30% off is not unheard of. Cheers!!!
Just checked the price in Euro, its € 690 as well. There's an interesting effect with these floating indices casting shadows. The end link construction the use reminds me of the Oris Aquis, where proprietary straps are needed too. The rubber strap looks good, but it's way too long. Interesting watch, I don't reject it, although it's perhaps not for me.
Floating markers are certainly an eye catching idea, I don’t remember seeing any other watch having something similar - I would like to see a v2.0 implementation of this idea tho
I love the design: the lack of lugs, the case shape and finishing and the floating indices are a really interesting addition. The Miyota 9015 is a solid enough movement but I feel the watch is too pricey at over £700. Maybe the money has gone into all the R&D for the dial?
I bought a spinnaker and it was my most complimented watch. I sold it because it was big but I've always kind of missed it. I bought a spinnaker spence, the dimensions are awesome!!!
Dark Olive would usually be the color scheme I go for, but that Forest Shadow is really catching my eye for this one. Shame I'm not in the market for another watch at the moment, I'd pick up one of these in a heartbeat, even though I typically wear smaller watches. If this were a more compact 200m diver, it would be irresistible.
Hate to break it this way.. but the only unique selling point is the "floating" indices, beyond that everything is just downhill. Finding replacement straps gonna be such a pain with those kind of lugs. The dial design is your typical dive style dial. And finally the price really gives you plenty of other alternatives, arguably better ones.
Pound is weak at 80P = $1. When you add VAT at 20% onto the pound your're almost at parity and that's without any exchange fees. So I would expect to see the GBP figure higher than the $$ figure if duty and tax have been included.
VAT in UK has been 20% for ever, nothing to do with Brexit. And similar to VAT rates across the EU. I'm in Canada, and the convention in the US and here is to express prices of everything before sales tax. Therefore we are reminded of it every time we buy anything taxable. In the UK the high rate of sales tax is buried. A fair number of US sellers now include import duty and sales tax when selling into Canada as a way of speeding up customs clearance, and make a selling point of it.
I thought I'd like the quirkiness of the second hand sweeping under those floating indices but actually triggers my ocd a little 😂 saying that, it's a very cool watch 🫶🏽
I have owned three Spinnaker watches over the years. They are of decent quality, but most are quite large. I think the UK price factors in duty, but even with a 20% discount I think it is too expensive. The Reverie diver has similar specs, is more attractive, has a better bracelet and clasp, a better size, and costs a lot less. One for you to check out, if you haven't already Gary
Agree with most of the comments about the watch but more so regarding price. I think given everything it is overpriced. Thank you for a great review on Spinnaker. Trying to decide which one is right for me.
The hands could be longer and you just put a shape that matches the edge of the floating numbers and then extend under them for when they're in between cool watch either way
Great review, good to see something a bit different, but having the indices above the hands really doesn't make sense functionally. The lugs are like those on a Vostok 960 case and limit strap choice while not looking better than conventional lugs in my opinion.
In all a nice watch but a bit pricey, I agree about the date wheel what they have done looks more cohesive but less readable. Second new watch I have seen this week with back secured with small screws. With a conventional screw down back you get even pressure on the gasket at all points, with screws you dont, do they have a tiny torque wrench to make sure they are evenly tightened, I doubt it.
I bought the original release from a couple of years ago, black dial ,gilt edged hands and indices, and the caseback engraved with the escape device. I believe there were 100 of each colour and cost nowhere near that amount.
It's a strange watch I want to like it but it seems chunky and I like big watches but not feeling this one and its just a bit off looking. As always fantastic content 👌
Love the review - have to ask though what happened with the Seiko giveaway yesterday? I had the video in a tab yesterday and didn't get around to watching it, but now it's gone?
I always get a kick out of these limited edition watches that are like 300-500pcs but GIVE soooooo many of them away to reviews for free and next thing ya know you can't buy any
Floating indices are a fun novelty, but in day to day wear, that thickness would get tiresome quickly. If they went with normal applied indices, Spinnaker may have been able to shave off another 2mm.
I didn't know this model! I like it a lot! But maybe too big for my wrist, and my taste. In France, 690€ all taxes included on their website. But you can find it for less than that. Not bad imho.
Dartmouth brands is UK based, why are we paying over the top? I've also noticed the prices have gone up on the rest of the range. I had a bradner on a bracelet bought direct from them for £220. It's now £378!
Love the design of their watches except for: always have a date ruining the dial. Almost always closed case backs. If they are still using nh movements, then their prices are too high. But a cool brand. Also, as usual, not enough steel bracelet options.
It's a very nice watch Gary and I'm subscribed to their website. I'm actually thinking of unsubscribing as I'm being bombarded with emails from them. They are nice watches but are way way way overpriced. They do have similar specs to some better Chinese brands and possibly these are made in China?🤔 You can get a Tissot with a Powermatic 80 Swiss movement for a similar price or possibly less. I managed to get one in Istanbul for just less than $600 equivalent. These would be a good buy at $350. Excellent review.
I like this one, but that price is steep. So much competition in that price range and when it comes down to it I think I would prefer to buy something else. I have a Spinnaker Bradner, plus I have handled other models and am very happy with the quality of their products.
Heh…I did. And apparently saved almost $150 for the same 300M WR rating and the true GMT functionality, which tells you how badly Spinnaker has priced this. Almost $700 for that is way too high. In the US you can get a Glycine Swiss Made dive watch for around $300.
This or a Christopher Ward diver 🤣. I expect to see these at £350 within the year. Legibility at an angle is non existent, there's a reason why the indices go below the hand set. Thanks for the review Gary, but this is an easy pass.
I like the different style of the watch, but I don't like that screw in back nor the fixed bracelet style. I think there are better looking watches at a better price and better specs. If I had a chance to buy a watch right now and they offered me this vs the New Seestern Gmt. ..I would buy the seestern
Well, it's definitely not the same boring run of the mill watch that you see everyone making so that is a plus. On the other hand, it's just a little too odd looking for me. I also don't like that case back. I assume they have tested the watch but that design doesn't seem like it would withstand 300m of pressure.
not really a spinnaker watch fan, not sure why maybe it’s just the name eh none of their models make me want to add them to my short or long list of watches to buy. It does look better on the rubber strap, though
Decent quality and one cool idea is not enough to make me buy it for that price. Especially since they gave up on including the taxes for EU customers.
Not on this gods earth I'm paying over £700 plus import tax for a Spinnaker. It's unusual but that's not always good. I buy and sell watches and a Spinnaker was the worst re-sell I've had. Lost about 70% of what I paid.
I have 2 spinnakers. The bradner pacific blue and the fleuss oxblood red. The bradner has this clasp and though its ok besides that the watch is truely awesome! The feluss came on leather spinnaker says its water resistant but i wont try it. Wish it had a bracelet. I got both at an incredible price and i really love both of them. This one, idk just doesn't like the design that much. For that price, i could get so many other great swiss/japanese or whatever great watches. Common spinnaker! Thanj you for the review, looking forward to seeing more spinnaker on the channel.. 🙂
700 USD for a watch with a Miyota 9 series, integrated lugs and a plastic movement holder. Hard pass for me. You can get a Lorier with the same movement for 200 USD less.
I strongly suggest stay away from Spinnaker. Their quality control sucks!!! This 2023 I bought 2 watches from them: an automatic Cahill, and a Hull chrono. Both broken. The Cahill completely stopped, it didn't worked, the caliber was not running by winding the crown or the rotor. I returned it for warranty, but Spinnaker unilaterally confiscated my watch and gave me a partial refund (excluding shipping and taxes), strangely saying the watch was working properly but giving me no evidence. On my second purchase (Hull chrono), the chrono start pusher failed, but with the terrible experience of the first watch and the warranty, I decided not to return the watch and better try to fix it with a local watchmaker. Spinnaker's quality control sucks!!!
To expensive. And they did not even bother to put metal movement ring. Mine Borealis for 500€ has metal ring and Miyota. Even SN007G-X has an metal ring for PT500 and it costed me less then half of the Spinnaker's price. Proprietary bracelet. Meh. Spinnaker disappoints me regularly ,just like the Seiko does.
Sorry but for the money there so many other watches out there that are better, yes i agree that Spinnaker have done something on there own and looks ok but for me it should be at most three and a half hundred
I applaud Spinnaker for daring to do something different - those floating hour markers are neat. And the green strap is gorgeous.
A homage to the Sinn 809. Nice.
The Sinn looks much nicer. Plus it's about 2mm thinner.
No doubts very interesting watch. Not for everyone, but has something special. 700$ + import taxes though... That's a territory where Longine is starting to quietly knock the door
I gotta agree with many others who commented on the indexes. It's original and gives the dial some depth that looks extremely good.
Those floating indexes are super cool.
The bracelet to case integration reminds me a bit the Archimede Outdoor Project.
Seems like it would be a neat addition to any collection... for the right price.
Not to be rude to Spinnaker, but the list of watches/Brands you could get for £720 + taxes…. 🤔

I actually really like it. It's the nicest looking Spinnaker I've seen.
Yeah quite original! The floating markers are nice and the date wheel looks well made 👌🏼👌🏼
I like it - quirky and ordinary at the same time. A sunburst dial or some other kind of finish would really make it something special
I like the design and that they give you both strap options but at that price it's a bit expensive and I'm not a fan of the hour hand
Top marks for originality. Well thought out and executed. I’m guessing it will sell well, just not my thing personally.
