WHY I OFTEN DON'T MENTION OTHER BRANDS IN MY VIDEOS.
You may have noticed that I often don't mention the original brands that watches I am reviewing pay homage to. This is very intentional and not meant to offend you or the original brands. I lost my first channel in October 2020 which I had spent 9 months growing and invested a significant amount of money in simply because I had mentioned the original brands in some of my videos. There are people who try to use UA-cams lack of understanding when it comes to the difference between homage watches and fake watches to attack other channels and their owners and sadly I fell foul of this in 2020. This channel was also attacked recently and UA-cam deleted content simply because I had said 'subby homage' and 'Rolex homage' in two videos despite the watches in the videos being perfectly legal homage watches. Please understand that I can not afford to risk my channel so I will no longer be mentioning other brands when reviewing homage watches.

They won't stop making the inferior quality, or lowering the price until we stop buying them. I follow vintage Seiko groups on FB, and the quality and style of those makes me long for the days when Seiko delivered such stirring offerings. King Seiko , Lord Seiko... the early Hi-beat models - just wonderful elegance and proportions. San martin, Steeldive - making homage watches with all the trimmings for half the price and the same Seiko movement. We should let our cash do the talking. (I have)... Thanks Gary.
Thats exactly what i am thinking. I currently have the newer alpinist on order but already had to return two +700€ Seiko because of QC issues.
And until they adjust specs and prices I wont be buying anymore Seikos.
But we can be lucky as there are so many watch Brands and Microbrands out there that still care for their customers.

Exactly my thoughts. Many offerings from Cronos, San Martin etc have the same movements, but are regulated to be closer to +-3sec/day and the bracelet and clasp are leagues above this, plus sapphire glass, plus screw down crown and more, and all for the same or less $$.
The Seiko quality doesn't necessarily improve when you move up towards Grand Seiko prices. I have an SLA017, paid $8k secondhand and the bezel is half a click out. Unreal.

Yes, Seiko needs to up their QC to match the prices they want to charge. Extremely disappointing and frankly they should be embarrassed letting these watches leave the factory like this.
All the 4 colours are reissue of Seiko's own 7548-700 smaller quartz divers from the 80s. The gold hands were a part of the colourway with the teal and orange dial.
As a watch enthusiast with almost no budget I recently picked up the Tandorio 37mm SKX013 homage in orange and it's great! NH35 and sapphire crystal for £52! No chapter ring, and only a date complication, but still rather happy with it.
Same. Then fitted an aftermarket Seiko dial! Job done...
I bought that same watch, but only the empty case. There are some old Seiko 5s which have chapter rings (the one I got is the SKX185) and the dial + chapter ring fit into the Tandorio perfectly. My SKX185's crystal was missing so it became a parts donor.
Now it looks awesome except for the lug-to-lug being too short. This new SRPK looks much more proportional.

Nice watch, but if it was me personally, I would rather one of the 38mm Islander dive watches from Mark. Sapphire crystal, ceramic/sapphire bezel, SuperLuminova, same movement (NH36), 200m WR instead of 100m, screw down crown, all solid link bracelet, screws instead of pins. So a much better watch overall, and cheaper too ($299 vs. $325). Although if brand history is important to you and you're not the biggest fan of homage watches, then obviously go for the Seiko.
Just recently ordered the Islander Fireball and can't wait to have it delivered. It comes with all the goodies and a dial out of this world. Highly recommended!

If the long islander was just a touch thinner I would agree. Also in a month or two this watch will be like $250. I already found it today for $220
Looks like Seiko producing a cheap homage of its former watches.
I'm all in for the criticisms of bezel/hand alignment QC and what not, totally agree that they could have been better.
But it always gives me a good chuckle when I see people screaming "We want the same quality and PRICE like what Seiko had offered in 80s-90s!!!"...
Well, you know you could buy a Camry with 10k$ in the 80s.
Heck I also want the same good service from gas station in the 50s and the same PRICE too.
I understand that 3-400$ is not a small amount of money to throw away blindly but oh well, realistically it's only worth few months of coffee these days.
At least you still have 100-150$ alternatives, like cheaper line of Seiko (which of course, the quality won't satisfy people) and/or just go microbrands and call it a day...
No sapphire crystal again... Will Seiko ever learn? 🤔

I've been fitting sapphire to a few of my Seikos the most expensive was €25 for double dome with AR coating the others were without the AR for just under £10. Imagine how cheap Seiko could get them for .
Seiko really makes no sense. They put sapphire on sub £150 quartz watches...
Problem for Seiko is this: they could increase all prices by $10 and universally fit sapphire, but then they lose a exclusive selling point on their higher end Prospex and Presage models that come with it. (This doesn't explain random quartz models that come with it but 🤷♂️)
@TonySpoons Sapphire should come as standard. The distinction between tiers should then be about higher grade movements, better finishing, etc.
Got this one for a daily wear. I was originally going to get the white/cream colored, but i felt the blue would be easier to view from more angles/lighting.
I can overlook the misaligned bezel but I struggle to get around the gold hands as well. I know it's a minor thing but when it's on the arm I do think it would be a point of contention for me.
I'm sure Frank would understand. Nice review as always 👍 and I agree I bet the orange dial would be a lot more pleasing to wear.
I see the color as more green than teal, I like it better than Tiffany's. And the size looks really good on your wrist.
I waited to comment on this as I bought one for my wife. She loved the look of my 007 and the Seiko 5 SRPE51K2 I have but it was just a little too big for her 5.25"wrist,. I surprised her with this colour, and she loves it. It definitely suits her wrist, I think up to 7" this will look good. It dıd look a bit small on my 8.1". P S. She put it on a brown leather strap. Didn't like the bracelet, thought it looked too mannish for her, not a surprise as it is definitely oriented towards us lads.
I think the gold hands provide a touch of warm contrast for the sort of minty green😊
Ooooof! That's PRICY for a watch like this nowadays. I love the 4 o-clock crown, and 38mm is also very appealing but I don' t think I'd want to pay over £200 for one of these!
$150 at best in my opinion.
I'm certain seikl will release a ton of colors in this size so I'll wait a little to get one but this teal dial is too tempting.
Cool Seiko teal dial. However, for me I still like the white dial version with Pepsi Basel.
For the same money you can get a very good example of the original skx013
Buy Citizen, Seiko just disrespect the buying public by continuing to make inferior quality, low spec same, same. I have not bought one in years and yet have six Citizen and three Bulova watches. Thanks for exposing Seiko for the frauds they are. Don't sell it mate, give it to charity.
Almost bought a Seiko 5 on Amazon for £100 but the reviews had a five percent failure rate (probably less as those happy might not bother reviewing it) so I went the Tandorio route as well with the NH35a inside. For the money most impressive though Seiko have kinda perfected the art of making cheap watches look good on first glance and I have been happy in the past with their quartz offerings, usually around £50 but less quality in recent ones.
I recently picked up the SKX GMT blueberry for £336, if you have the wrist for it it's a much better buy in my opinion

Problem with those is that they're not a "true GMT" and when you move the hour hand, it moves the GMT - at least that's what I heard. I have a hard time investing in the new Seiko lineup to be honest

Yup. My plan was to buy it asap cuz it will have same destiny as SKX. It will increase in price. But the hardlex on 300$ watch today... bracelet is also meh.
I got the orange SRPD and I love it! Was doing +15 sec a day but i also ordered a weishi 1000 and now its doing +2 sec a day! Those Seiko are amazing once they are regulated!

The color of the hands is a distraction now that you have mentioned it.
Very pleased with my goofy SBSA105, don't think there's space for a smaller SKX in my collection really. That said, we're all prey to impulse purchases, and it's a cute little watch, this one or the orange do it for me.
I'm not sure about the Tiffany bllue, for this type of watch....I am interested in the 38mm size though
The price will come down, then find one in a sale and bingo, you have a decent good looking watch. I have a 4205 in this size and a bigger SKX, neither with a scratched crystal or having been near any diving activities
Still like it even if it is teal/tiffany blue...The combination though of gold hands and silver markers is weird.Looks really good on the wrist.
Pricey for sure but lets remember Seiko watches can be found for much cheaper a few months to a year down the line. No one should be paying full price for these on release.
Seiko are displaying Rolex like arrogance , " It doesn't matter what we make it'll sell" . It looks like they had plenty "gold" hands but no "silver" . Still fitting Softlex and if the chapter ring, dial and bazel lined up I'd suspect it of being counterfeit.

I need to have the Mikan orange one, but I have to say that this "robins egg blue" one is quite nice.
I think as as daily cheap beater I’d rather have a Casio duro. I have no issue with quartz for that purpose. Also I do have to say that the colour imo is turquoise not teal. Tiffany blue is also turquoise. A teal colour imo is darker and has a bit more green than blue tone to it. I think the new farer aquamatic thurso bezel is a true teal. Thanks for the video… deffo one I won’t be spending £300 on 😂And yeah gold hands with a silver seconds hand and silver hour markers is silly.
If only Casio would release a 40-42mm version of the Duro. But yeah, I agree that a Casio Duro would definitely do the job at a low cost.

Bought a watch because "it is undoubtedly gunna be the one that everybody is interested in"...? People doing this is what causes inventory to run out so fast for those of us who would actually like to have this watch and then the prices are jacked up on the grey market. Same with the tiffany casio that came out a few months back.
Nice edition for the little people of the world, my 9" wrists loose watches with anything less than 42mm head, I like vintage watch with passion but I just can’t pull them off because they are too small. Nice review though Gary.

That would be the colour I would go for so I'll take it off your hands 😉 I always get the bracelet option if there is one but seiko is one of the exceptions to this rule.

The price is insulting
I had an SKX013, which these are essentially the same as, minus the Seiko 5 specs differences (lower WR, no lume pip, no screwdown crown, etc.). I was curious to try a more compact SKX form.. I found it, for me, felt a bit dainty, and I have about a 7" wrist. Definitely wears smaller on wrist than its stated 38mm case size... I think it is indeed actually a little smaller than 38mm if u measure it. Plus, Seiko divers usually wear smaller visually on wrist. I think Seiko divers generally work and look better at their larger dimensions.
That being said, I feel they should instead make an alternate size in 40mm like their "DressKX" I think that would be a proper smaller size without being too dainty.
You should have gone with the Orange one as that one is funkly.
Buying a Seiko at full MSRP is like buying a Seiko at full MSRP. Yeah I couldn’t think of a better analogy.

Nice watch but I'd prefer it in quartz as I like my watches to keep good time. Seiko need to start using better movements.

Nothing to do with Tiffany current trend. Seiko has making (quartz) divers this color since the 80’s (6458 and 7548). Bezel was also gold, back then.
At that price, buy the 38mm Islander. It just kills the Seiko on specifications.
I would say the indices and seconds hand are anthracite, not silver.
The seconds hand and indices are gunmental grey on the teal and orange variants. Only the black variant gets the all silver treatment. The white/cream dial gets all gunmetal grey accents.
So this is the watch that crunch guy said is “the Black Bay killer”…….yeah, right
At this point if you've seen one 5kx dial you've seen them all dive,dress or gmt same.
The teal is probably a bit too strong for me. It's a nice looking watch though!

The 5KX are good watches and it's fine they got smaller brothers, but i can never accept paying $200 to $300 on any of them. For theses prices Orient Kamasu I and II and the new Mako III offers much more. Even if these Seikos are at a realistic $150 Orient could still compete with the traditional Mako II and Ray II series. Of course there's the matter of taste, but it's impossible to shake off the bang-for-buck aspect from one's mind. Within Seiko, for $300 i would go straight to a 777 Turtle.

Great close up photography 👍. 38mm dive watches end up with a tiny dial, they do look small on a man's wrist. I don't think this is a good way to spend £300, better to provide a decent rubber strap, bin the bracelet and charge £250.

Still not worth £300 for a Hardlex crystal watch. Go and get an Islander from Long Island Watches instead. And the gold-coloured hands on a teal dial, don't quite work with the silver indices and the dial colour. It would have been better to either go with traditional silver or even better black and black surround indices too.
