    WHY I OFTEN DON'T MENTION OTHER BRANDS IN MY VIDEOS.
    You may have noticed that I often don't mention the original brands that watches I am reviewing pay homage to. This is very intentional and not meant to offend you or the original brands. I lost my first channel in October 2020 which I had spent 9 months growing and invested a significant amount of money in simply because I had mentioned the original brands in some of my videos. There are people who try to use UA-cams lack of understanding when it comes to the difference between homage watches and fake watches to attack other channels and their owners and sadly I fell foul of this in 2020. This channel was also attacked recently and UA-cam deleted content simply because I had said 'subby homage' and 'Rolex homage' in two videos despite the watches in the videos being perfectly legal homage watches. Please understand that I can not afford to risk my channel so I will no longer be mentioning other brands when reviewing homage watches.

    I absolutely love this one. I love what Vario do and own the 1918 which is one of my most treasured watches out of my +200 collection.
    Certainly contemplating this one for sure. I handled a Praesidus recently which then made me buy a genuine A11 and got me into the WWII Watch vibe. Seriously thinking about adding this one to complete the set.
    Well done Vario and nice review Garry

    I’ve handled a couple other of their watches(friends that owned them). They didn’t stand out like this one in my opinion…this one looks great, and definitely shows that they stepped up their game as far as the finishing goes… Definitely going to consider adding this one to the collection.

    I like this a lot more than I expected. It looks unnecessarily thick, though, for an 8000-series Miyota and the price is a bit of a pisstake.

      It is 10.5 mm thick. That is pretty thin for most auto watches. Being only 37mm it may appear thicker than it actually is.

    I've got a Vario 1918, and it's great value for money. That also has a seconds subdial at 6 and the crown at 4.30 with the same movement, so I wonder whether the crown position is because of the subdial position. I don't have a problem with the Myota 8 series, so I'm happy that they spend the money they're saving on the movement on the rest of the watch.

  • @caktaylor
    @caktaylor Рік тому +2

    I think the movement selection was limited based on the need for the seconds hand to be within a subdial. Vario seems to prefer Japanese movements (so no Sea-Gull), and so they probably didn't have a lot of of movements from which to choose. Also, it may help from a cost perspective that they already use that movement in their Medic/Trench line.

    Vario makes good watches, seems to have their theme in watches. You know the strap is going to be good from them. Their main business is straps. Have a Vaer A12 which is $900 but a lot of discounts,. Even more if your a veteran, prior purchase. Drops it almost by a 3rd. Selita movement, small seconds and close to the original and comes with an extra strap. They're also sold out.

    Ooh, that's nice. I like the fact there is no partial 6 under the seconds sub dial. The crown position gets a thumbs up from me.

    Dirty dozen homages are thirteen-a-dozen, so it doesn't really get me excited and increasingly if you are interested it gets more difficult to choose. So I'm glad that you took the approach to point out the difference and as far as these go, this is a handsome and fresher piece. I do find that it seems to sit high on the wrist, which is a pity. It means the single passes aren't best suited as they make that marginally worse. The embossing is a nice touch, but makes their logo look very informal. The 4.30 crown is OK, but I wonder if 4 o'clock wouldn't have been better, seeing that this looks very close to the lug. Capped stack is always nice to see on any piece. I don't know why this is overlooked so often

At that price would have preferred something a bit better and as a military style watch it should have much stronger lume, however that won't stop people buying it! It's good enough to do well despite the movement and the lume.

I believe their watches are well thought out and of high quality, but so far none of their somewhat unconventional styles has appealed to me until this one. But I have so many field watches!. I love my Vario 1918 Medic (aside it being an early production run featuring the NH35, rather than the NH38 used in later production runs), and I have been keeping my eye on this one.
    It is a very good looking watch, but I don't find the styling compelling enough to pull the trigger and buy it. I'll wait to see what Vario does with their planned upcoming A11/1944 homage, while continuing to browse AliExpress for other D12 options. Unless I just get the Baltany A11/1944 instead. Who knows, who knows.

    • @VARIOeveryday

    • @Celebmacil
      @Celebmacil Рік тому

      Having just read this, I immediately had to grab my Medic and check. You're right (of course), I was mistaken, and there is no ghost date position.
      I just have a great amount of difficulty getting the crown down far enough to disengage from the setting position when I go to screw it back down, and probably at some point was doing it when I was really tired, and just assumed it was a ghost date issue without much thought, and continued to think that.
      Since I don't have to set it all that often, perhaps I just need to break it in a bit more, or simply be more assertive when I go to screw down the crown. Thanks for taking the time to reply, and help me get better (correct) information about the watch!
      And, also, you're very right. There's no reason at all I can't get the Baltany AND yours later too. I'll be sure to let my wife know you said it was fine! :D

    The battle of Singapore was the largest surrender of British troops in history, largely due to failures of leadership. Interesting that this watch commemorates that.
    I think I'll be ordering one of these.
    Would like to have seen the Broad Arrow symbol on the dial, but I'm not sure where they would have put it. It looks thick, but I think that's an optical illusion, since at only 10.5mm it's really fairly thin for an automatic watch.
    I have the Baltany dirty dozen. Yes, it's much cheaper, but has polished hands and some other design features that make it not so nice. Baltany or San Martin could make a perfect Dirty Dozen, but they don't seem to really understand the design details of the original. You get what you pay for.

    • @VARIOeveryday
      @VARIOeveryday Рік тому

      I had thought that the use of the symbol for government property had expired, but I was quite wrong.

    A very plain, decidedly tubby watch, with very little to distinguish it, other than miserly lum. Topped off with a Miyota 8 series for £ 348?
    Oh, hang on, AND COMMEMORATING A BRITISH DEFEAT???!!!
    Ah, hard, hard, hard no.

      Quoted from my website "The Battle for Singapore was one of the key battles in WWII. While it forever changed the island’s trajectory, VARIO 1945 D-12 Field Watch captures the spirit of bravery of the soldiers in WW2 who defended their territory and reminded us the importance to protect our indepedence, translating the event into a modern field watch proudly designed in Singapore."

    I think it suffers from being neither fish nor fowl. Its not an accurate reproduction or homage and it really isnt a modern field watch either. I guess that is exactly what they were going for but, meh. The crown position is absolutely incongruous.

    Is it a homage? Hmm. Not really. Nice though!
