Since they believed you were committing fraud please tell us about your experience with law enforcement that responded to the criminal scene? Was the teller that refused to deposit your legitimate check black? Or perhaps Hispanic? Or was it a white person that refused to let you deposit your employment bonus? Did you record the incident?... If so you should upload it to UA-cam because it was not right to do that to you. It is wrong because you went all those years through medical school and then they refused to let you cash your bonus check that you worked so hard for many years to achieve. People deposit a check, then wait a bit and draw out what they can, leaving the bank with a bogus check and them nowhere to be found. When things like that happen, the teller who took the check is usually fired. But the thing is, most banks have the ability to electronically verify funds available. Depositing a fake check in a new account is occasionally the start of a scam (where they try to withdraw the funds before the bank figures out it is fake), so you can't blame them too much. However, the usual procedure would be to place a hold on any withdrawal from the account until the check clears, which is what they should have offered for her instead of denying service. PS, a $16k signing bonus for a doctor in private practice is actually on the small side, did they think that the check should have been bigger to be believable?

This was over a week after they took my check and gave me a 00/00/0000 availability date. I'm not gonna lie, I was upset about. There are very many factors at play in the bank doing what they did.
The doctor was young the doctor didn't have a transaction history consistent with that type of a deposit and the bank with probably a local bank not familiar with the payer account.
Although race was probably a factor I don't believe it was significant enough to weigh in the decision I think the amount of the check was the greatest motivator, and her account activity was the second greatest motivator.
She is likely going to be making at least $300,000 a year which means that she's going to be making at least $25,000 a month so six months from now if she had direct deposit along the way they would have no problem in accepting that check.

I had the same thing happen to me with Chase about 28 years ago. My father sent me a bank check, drawn on a Chase bank where he lived. He sent it to me, but the Chase where I live refused to honor it, even when I pointed out that the bank itself held the funds that covered the check. About the same time, I attempted to open a new account at my local Bank of America, and they told me that it would take TWENTY-TWO working days for the check to clear! With a vey composed voice I asked the agent how much interest would accrue on the stated amount on the check while the bank used my money. Her eyes almost fell out of their sockets and gasped that they don't pay interest on checks during the clearing process. I took the check, stood up and said that I wasn't in the business of lending interest-free money, and walked out. I hope that doctor Mitchell prevails.

      Not as simple as that.
The account could be real and the funds in the account could be there as well however you're not going to be able to find out if the signature on the check is correct or if the payee is correct until you send it through the system.
Now because the banking system still works on a high level of trust in order to get things to move quickly the check will clear in a few days making the funds available to the payee within days. However if the check is a fraud then it might take weeks to months for it to be discovered.
Your bank doesn't check your signature every single time you write a check to somebody and they certainly don't know who you writing it to.
It isn't until you get the check that you see it wasn't a check that you wrote and it didn't go to somebody that you know. That could be a month or two down the line.
Some people recognize the large sum that wrongly leaves their account, some people reconcile their actual checks, and some never see the loss.
Like I said it could take weeks to months for it to be found reconciled and at that point the bank the bank tries to reverse the funds which means that the person who deposited the check will end up with a negative balance if they don't have that kind of money in the account to cover it. And at that point the responsibility for the money is on the bank that accepted the check.
So now you see why Chase didn't want to accept such a large check on an account that didn't have that kind of transaction history. They simply didn't want to get stuck just in case the check was a fraud.
The scam that I outlined above is run every single day with people on eBay and especially Craigslist.

I experienced the same thing with a teller at a Chase Bank and she wouldn't cash my work check. Plus I had the funds in my account to cover it if she was that worried. I wrote a very detailed review about that location, management never responded to me. I went to another location and was treated much better. Sometimes the banks really need to look and train their workers properly. I used to work for a different bank sometime ago and we were given training on how to properly verify a check and we could deposit and get verification by escalating if necessary too. They would tell us what questions to ask and everything. But what you cant change is personal bias. Sad this successful doctor had to go through this. I hope she wins the case and the bank can improve and do better.

THAT MOMENT of THAT FEELING when you realize that you are being penalized, dismissed, discredited for reasons that are imaginary at best.
The narrative that has been repeated about women who look like the doctor has been amplified by the "discomfort" of the tellers, to the point where chase has just lost any consideration for MY business as an artist. THAT FEELING of being on the receiving end of racism for invalid false reasons is not a good one for anyone to have.
We have two children about the age of the doctor who are echoing that same things I endured as a photojournalist in the capitol city of the Show Me state back in the 80s. The first time it hits you it is a shock. Living with it day after day like our grandparents did, simply can no longer be tolerated. As a light sculptor from the Show Me state thank you young journalists for the work you do before the unblinking eye of the camera! Thank you for sharing Dr. Mitchell-Stewart's story!!!!
In August of 2019 I was fired because I was black and had a disability. There are no words to adequately describe the rage and fury I felt internally, after being invited to return to the job after an aneurysm in 2017. THAT FEELING is a concussive rage that blinds all thoughts of logical reason that is intended to protect the Self. THAT FEELING is also the suffocating poison despair choked the breathing light from the voice of the young shiny Soul of Ms. Chelsie Kryst.
The behavior I endured in the work place in 2019 should have been over long before the 1980s, but I lost a job at a newspaper due to the poor team building skills of those who try to do less than substandard in the work place. All of you who have not had THAT FEELING as an employee or a customer, consider yourselves lucky. Please encourage those around you to give you a heads-up about who says what when people who look like you are not in the room. That is what you can do to help out young people who look like us. Let the people around you know they should encourage the people who are "uncomfortable" serving people at work based on skin tone.
We know a standard of excellence on our worst days at work that we know now that 40% could never do as an imagined goal in their dreams, especially when it comes to manners and how we behave in the workplace and the job we agreed to do. THAT FEELING angered me so much, it was all I could do not to act upon things frowned upon in courts of law. The behavior was so blatant, I negotiated the settlement on my own with a clip in my brain. The exacerbated PTSD of the fury and despair is still a problem two years later. I hope she wins. Texas is dangerous these days.
At the very least, those tellers should have been fired on the spot. The job of everyone at a bank is to take money when it walks through the door!!!!! Find me one black person who works at a bank who would not get fired for failing to take money when it comes through the door, and I will show you a child who must have attended one of the schools the Obama girls went to. In the land of Josh Hawley, it is hard for this self employed light sculptor.
    Please keep doing your work.

    • @TruckTaxiMoveIt
      @TruckTaxiMoveIt 2 роки тому
