Just got the game and played for a few hours. Really digging the vibe of Contact. It's really cool to see a first contact situation from a regular serviceman for once. No top scientist, no underdog hero, just regular soldiers tryna figure out what the heck is going on.
That was the second campaign I finished (prolouge was the first), and boy, did I have a good time. Even if you were assigned more than others, boy was it a bloody fun stealth campaign. I just wish more games followed Arma's tracks.
Personally, Contact had so much more content than Apex, I mainly bias to Apex for the Armed Blackfish, Spar-16 rifles(only trad. 5.56 rifles), and IR masking tech. But contact had cooler plate carriers, Russian gear and uniform, ED1E, promet rifle series, CBRN gear, Shotguns, Tractor, European terrain and an interesting perspective in first contact with Aliens
Funny how Laws Of War has 1-2 story character's. Adams your mate in east wind until he hits that landmine. And Petros your friendly neighborhood AAF Turned FIA in the Anastasia Mod.
Should mention SOG Praire Fire not only add get in and get out animation, but it adds melee attack by putting bayonet attachment on gun. While yes, playing Arma 3 in many cases doesn't involve and need melee attack, but new mechanic is always welcomed.
For someone that enjoys playing the vanilla base game more than playing with mods, I'd have to say that my favourite DLC would be Laws of War, since you get a very different perspective on your actions in a war game as a soldier and it hits deep. Followed by Marksmen since I mainly play Infantry and then Apex for the epic content it adds. Also you forgot about the Malden and Zeus DLCs.
1. Contact. A fresh new perspective on extraterrestrials. Also, Livona is awesome. 2. Global Mob. Sure, they had a rocky start, but they where also the first creator DLC and people didn't like the way CDLC was implemented. Their models and textures are really well done, and all of their vehicles have detailed interiors!! Also, they've kept updating the DLC with tones of great assets. 3. S.O.G. Prairie Fire. A super immersive DLC, with some awesome new additions and game modes. A bit lacking with the fixed wings, only adding a Phantom. And some of the vehicles where pretty lacking and rushed. Like the sights in some of the vehicles. But hopefully that'll change with future updates like Glob Mob. 4. Laws of War. A great campaign with a brand new perspective on war and very well executed. 5. Helicopter DLC. This DLC completely overhauled rotary winged vehicles in Arma and helped shape future helicopters that we see in mods and CDLC. 6. Tanks. They added some very nice vehicles and vehicle interiors to tanks, as well as a very nice Carl Gustav recoiless rifle. 7. Apex. Honestly I pretty much never use the content of Apex, and the lack of a proper campaign was disappointing! But it did add lots of content, which was nice. 8. Jets. They made jets in Arma actually somewhat flyable.. Planes no longer fly like missiles. The planes and content itself was very nice, with functional HUD's and configurable pylons. But planes aren't used that often in most cases, and the flight physics are still very unrealistic and weird. 9. Marksman. Bipods!!! The rifles where also pretty nice, but almost never used, I see people use modded marksman rifles anyways most of the time. 10. CSLA. What a steaming pile honestly. Nothing but ported Arma 2 units with rushed reskins and trash sounds. Really a gigantic disappointment! You can find every unit from this DLC with better textures and sounds in FREE Mods!! The bad thing about content creators dlcs is that you can't add assets in the editor and make people play a vanilla user edited mission with assets from these dlc. I'm an editor and this is very bad compared to Apex or Contact
Yeah you can. They just need to download the compatibility data mods. They just can't play the single player content and they can't play on those maps, same as with regular DLC :)
@@BillyEatWorld yes but it's not the same and the players have to download a lot of gigs, with Contact or Apex the game updates and that's it. There are many players with problems even loading a preset. At least in my guild. Much easier for everyone to just launch the base game with some mods
I totally agree on the bottom ones (like karts and tac ops), and of course I agree with Apex as number one, but for me marksman, Jets and Helis are higher on my list simply because I prefer futuristic shooters more than cold war ones… But that’s just my opinion, and that’s why Arma is an amazing game! With mods and DLC you can transform it into anything you want!!
I think when ranking DLC we should take into account not only the DLC premium content, but also the free updates and mechanics everyone got when each DLC released, (for example, marksmen brought in weapon stabilization and firing from vehicles among other) that being said, I get it, this is more of a purchase guide, so the list is fair Honestly, for the most part I agree with the list (Karts top 1 though, anything for that 3d body modeled to perfection) but if I had to rank them based on how good everything about them was and not just new assets, most creator DLC except prairie fire would fall behind in between tac ops and helicopters IMO, and I would absolutely include Laws of War in the list as top 3, might not have brought that much content or mechanics (think it was mostly the new mine detector) but the story and unique perspective is absolutely great

Personally I would have put laws of war and Art of war as the first 2. That's just my opinion. Personally I think both of those were done so well and so respectfully in the concept of a military game. Everything from the fancy parade uniforms to the coffin, to the art about AI technology in warfare, to expressing that even in war both sides will ignore the laws of war when the laws inconvenience them. I Would by far say that I've gotten more enjoyment out of these than contact or anything else in arma 3.

in my opinion, at the very least swap GM and SOG around. I would then also move marks man down to before helicopters and bump all the vehicles dlc´s up by one accordingly.
The big issue with GM is that it took a few updates for the community to really change it's opinion on it. Most people didn't buy it when it came out, whereas PF was the opposite. The assets are great, but finding people that own the DLC to play with is hard. Also PF massively benefits from it's Mike Force dynamic mission, which is great for public servers.
