Agreed, Yes, it's only simulating a specific unit and the NVA they went up against. They weren't making a mod to include every asset used during every year of the war. A lot of the Team worked on unsung as well and have said that they wanted this to be specifically about the SOG experience.

I saw an ad for it while after I clicked this video. As long as the devs put a bit more work into this, this is really one of the best nam experiences ever.
The vehicles you mentioned are absent because they weren't prevalent in the prairie fire AO at the time. The NVA didn't have many tanks and APCs at all and they had zero air support assets over the fence as far as I know.

One thing to consider is that the devs made it based on a war that not a lot of people knew about until recently, I can see why you'd be upset about lack of vehicles but it was a lot of missions of sitting and watching, fighting if necessary or tasked to do so.
Global mobilization was awesome, felt super authentic. Prairie fire so far doesn't seem as immersive. The map is great but there's no one guarding the first base. The first mission The LZ is right beside some settlement and there's vc within a couple hundred meters who strangely don't fire at your chopper, I could go on, maybe it gets better later
Played this for the first time yesterday and it's fun. One thing I need to bring up is the m40 riflescope. The m14 scope reticle is correct for the time period but the m40 is wrong. The scope they mounted on the rifles back then didn't have a mil dot reticle. That didn't exist until the late 70s. What did exist was designed by red field and was called accutrack or something like that. It was a ranging reticle with normal crosshairs but with 2 other ranging lines all the way across and a range tombstone.
Its worth it if you want to make missions. If you are just playing the given missions solo than not really I love vietnam stuff so its a big yes for me
Considering that the main focus is MACV SOG Prairie Fire Operations, and that those operations occurred with little to no supporting assets beyond air power, I am actually quite happy that they didn’t focus on ground vehicles that had nothing to do with across the fence operations. To me, they would be a complete waste, as Unsung already does those well, and they can be added later on. I hope the people who play this look in to the stories of the men who went across the fence as members of SOG Recon, Hatchet force, and Mike Force teams, as well as that of the brave aviators that kept them alive. Please remember and honor their heroism.
At first I was bothered at the lack of single player content, but for what you get I think the $20 price is worth it. The vehicles look and sound better, the m61 frag grenade has a way better visual and sound effect than the unsung version. The M60 has a way better sound effect and belt feed animation, etc. The new assets such as the era correct civilian vehicles, the correct trees, bushes vehicles etc, That's what you're paying $20 for, much better, much more polished content. There's also the fact that they added a brand new melee system as well as hand command signals you can now do and so much more. I would have honestly had no problem paying $30 for this content.

So, if nobody has seen it yet, this dlc jas been updated since this vid and added in numerous Vietnam era vehicles, weapons, and other stuff for both sides.
Nice DLC I like it better than UNSUNG just because of the level of detail they have created for it. I'm mainly an infantry player so vehicular and air assets don't really bother me. About people complaining about the bigger number of vehicles of UNSUNG . Just take a look at any plane cockpit of the DLC , the difference is far far better. And the team will implement more of them on the next future ! It worths every cent !
I bought this dlc without watching any reviews because i liked rising storm 2 and i love this dlc. Its nothing like rising storm 2. Its a slow methodic walking sim UNTIL you start to hear the voices coming from the brush up ahead. Then it becomes an ultra fast paced shooter with explosions and close air support booming and shaking the world around you. Its got a feeling that no other game matches for me.
The PAVN didn’t have many tanks, vehicles and aircraft. And certainly not in the south. If your going for historical accuracy? That’s the reality of it. In order to level the game play? PAVN/VC would be able to stage in off limits Laos and use tunnel systems to carry out surprise ambushes and then vanish.
That grease gun looks like it might be firing faster than it should. Also its iron sights are overly obstructional, a common pitfall when people forget you aim with both eyes open. In a video game, you shouldn’t be “looking at” a sight but through it.
Prairie fire is amazing! It's just not many play it. I mean there are people who play it on servers where the battles can be amazing and you can find a large group of people playing. But, your talking like 3 servers for three different regions; like US, Canada, and Russia. Or at least thats kind of what I have found. I have yet to find someone who will match up and play the campaigns. The campaigns are meant for a group to play, and even someone who is very very skilled has a hard time completing the missions solo. I have owned this dlc for a couple years and would love if people would populate the dlc a little more. I have been begging the KOTH servers to come try it out, but, it still remains kind of a niche hidden part of Arma 3. It's a small community of people that kind of have gotten to the point where they feel like it's their dlc, they are set in their ways. They have their own jobs picked out, pilots, base builders, commanders etc. And they all know eachother and stay to themselves even if your friendly. And they mean it. Like role play scenario. If your new to the server your an outsider and it's hard to get anyone to go with you to explore, or to take any advice. I have had only a handful of situations where I felt like I was part of a small squad and we went out away from base and started attacking enemy positions. And that, that was fun. That was probably the best arma experience I ever had. It was me and 4 guys, we were under heavy opposition in the jungle at night. No night vision, just flashlights and occasional flares that would light up the area. The enemies you can hear talking and yelling and running all around you. Then a flare would go off and bam right in front of you there would be enemies, serious 30 second gunfight would happen. It was terrifying. Amazing. But,,,, like I said, it's rare to find a cool group of guys on there that speak your language and that are willing to group up and do that. All the regulars just do there jobs or fly supplies in and out, and the newbies are rare. And you can go out into the jungle by yourself or you will die very quickly even if you are very good. So,,, mixed feelings. I just wish more people would actually play it, it would be a game changer for most if they just gave it a shot.
You should understand this dlc better. It was developed with major help from several vets who WERE ACTUALLY THERE in MACV-SOG. yes it is a game but it's supposed to be a story of what these awesome dudes went through. Watch jockos podcast with john Stryker meyer.
@@xnavrasx7950 yes, but it is in the plans of the developers. I would take a lot of time to model all aircraft of the war ( Skyhawks, Spads, Crusaders...). It's a better strategy to release a basic product and after add more features.
"buildings can catch on fire which may seem small and insignificant" Absolutely not, there's no sight more glorious then coming down the side of a mountain at night in the rain through the trees and launching grenade rounds onto the village below and watching the burning embers of their little village light up the night around you. Then again, lots of people don't seem to be skilled enough to handle night combat on Vietnam so I guess if your a constant day dweller you won't get to appreciate that.
This DLC is good but only for multiplayer. If you're looking for solo content not worth in my opinion. No AI teammates in the campaign without mods, only two actual solo scenarios. The best content is Mike Force which really needs a lot of players to make enjoyable and functional. The Map and content is good if you play other mods with it

If you are familiar enough with A3 then install 3den Enhanced(for patrol and additional features) and make Dynamic Missions. About people complaining about the bigger number of vehicles of UNSUNG . Just take a look at any plane cockpit of the DLC , the difference is far far better. And the team will implement more of them on the next future ! It worths every cent !
This dlc and arma made me buy a pc I've had so much fun with the sog dlc it gets super crazy
Thats awesome!
nice piloting! Did you use a joystick?
I was born is Saigon...so I will see this "historic believahilbilly"...
Bro nobody gives a fk. You just started playing arma? Again nobody gives a fk your opinion means less due to that fact
@@DonaldMcNuGGeT who pissed in your cornflakes this morning?
If ya wanna play solo campaign, will be just you because apparently you need other ppl because there's no A.I teammates which kinda sucks
PAVN/VC would be able to stage in off limits Laos and use tunnel systems to carry out surprise ambushes and then vanish.
made me return to arma3
sure worth it for those who like history and that period
its amazing DLC this is the nam iv been waiting for
This is based off real life missions. Not alot of tanks or aircraft in Cambodia. Sog teams survived because they controlled the air.
That grease gun looks like it might be firing faster than it should. Also its iron sights are overly obstructional, a common pitfall when people forget you aim with both eyes open. In a video game, you shouldn’t be “looking at” a sight but through it.
I had to throw in the NVA MI24A Mod to this while making an NVA base.
I like to play coop missions with a friend. Is there a fun campaign for 2 players?
I was hoping direct action would use this dlc. Awesome
Nice one Billy!
To be fair if they were gonna give VC all that it would make it less realistic. They honestly didn’t have much in ways of mechanized warfare.
I just wish more people would actually play it, it would be a game changer for most if they just gave it a shot.
personally I think Arma series is better than COD in some ways, but i love both
Say _'two-parter'_ again! I love this accent. 👍😄
You should understand this dlc better. It was developed with major help from several vets who WERE ACTUALLY THERE in MACV-SOG. yes it is a game but it's supposed to be a story of what these awesome dudes went through. Watch jockos podcast with john Stryker meyer.
Can you play as PAVN/NLF or do you only play as US Army/ARVN?
Great review. I am guessing the Naval boats and ships are non existent?
There are PBRs.
Are there AI improvements/ new behaviours? Can they see through foliage?
I love the mod but I was very disappointed when the USMC only has pilots and crew chiefs instead of infantry, I know they’re adding more but still.
All I wanna know is if there are Creedence Clearwater Revival songs in the game? Then I know its authentic Vietnam!
I find the lack of an A-6E Intruder offensive.
First flight of A-6E: 1970. So...
@@tomdtom5407 the lack of any Intruder is offensive. That better?
@@xnavrasx7950 yes, but it is in the plans of the developers. I would take a lot of time to model all aircraft of the war ( Skyhawks, Spads, Crusaders...). It's a better strategy to release a basic product and after add more features.
Well worth the price. The map alone is worth it.
Cliff notes: Yes
Fortunate son intensifys
Possible to play the Direct Action mission without the Unsung mod?
Is fortunate son in the dlc ?
I believe the lacking vehicles, especially for opfor, is because they had to rush it a year early.
And why they had to rush it ?
"buildings can catch on fire which may seem small and insignificant"
Absolutely not, there's no sight more glorious then coming down the side of a mountain at night in the rain through the trees and launching grenade rounds onto the village below and watching the burning embers of their little village light up the night around you. Then again, lots of people don't seem to be skilled enough to handle night combat on Vietnam so I guess if your a constant day dweller you won't get to appreciate that.
No solo campaign tho :(
I think there is.
@@djwoody1649 no AI included
no there’s no sp mission, sp is similar to apex, semi sp and online
what will kill it, will be if you cant mix it into normal servers, having its own client required will get old fast
Please for the love of god play Mike Force it’s so fucking good
the only other tanks they could add is a pt 76 and i think the m48 patton so not missing much honestly
This DLC is good but only for multiplayer. If you're looking for solo content not worth in my opinion.
No AI teammates in the campaign without mods, only two actual solo scenarios. The best content is Mike Force which really needs a lot of players to make enjoyable and functional.
The Map and content is good if you play other mods with it
Really needs apc and north forces need air and own fire support for rto etc
How’s the learning curve I remember arma had way too many button key sets it was too much
Arma 3 definitely feels more user friendly (control wise) compared to older titles. - that’s just my opinion though 😀
Where's my flamethrower 👀
The charging handle on the IwI usi isn't animated.
It's terrifying to hear people speaking in a foreign language in dense brush around you.
I’m a war hunter player just picked it up tho so hopefully it’s good
Loving this expansion
Is there a play through for this? i played it and the "recover drop supply" doesn't show what to do after recovering them
Def worth it. Game is bad ass. Snakes bites on this one though!
Some of the texture work and flight modeling in Unsung are not really satisfactory, I will definitely check this out
Is this a campaign? Or is it just pvp?
Just got Arma 3...but waiting to see if this SLC is worth $20.
So far I am very impressed with the game unfortunately it is not really clear how to fly some of the air assets in multiplayer.
Someone who tried, can 2 players finish the campaign?
Devs should work on Arma 4 instead
i installed arma 3 today and the prairie fire DLC. can someone help a noob out on how to get into a prarie fire campaign or MP game? I open Arma 3 and im not seeing prairie fire anywhere. thanks in advance from a noob.

How do I play with a friend, I can’t figure it out
Hey, is there a complete SP to this DLC or is it all co-op and you need players to have a squad? Or is there a setting? I'm an Arma noob. Actually, no I'm a PC noob lol. I just got a really good gaming laptop plus Arma 3 and SOG Prairie Fire. I have zero Steam friends as I mainly use a Series X. But, since I don't know anybody on Steam, I haven't really been able to do anything but do the tutorial and then get sh*t on by Charlie when I hit the LZ. Somebody help lol. It'd really make my day. Forgive me, vicious youtube community, but I know nothing.

Just an FYI, It's "Sawg" as in "mack-vee sawg"
I bought it yesterday and can’t find anyone to squad up with. Just keep running into trolls or people that just don’t play as a team.
Sog discord - like mos eisley cantina in nam
Correction: You cannot play this DLC/mod Singleplayer. You are on your own with no AI team mates which makes it, well... unplayable on your own.
Just spent 2 days playing SP with 32 AI in my team plus vehicles, planes and choppers so I am not sure what you are referring to.
@@Johnnygibson007 How do you get AI in SP?
@@ieslie88 Being realistic if Arma didn't have the Workshop it would have died in the ass 61/2 years ago as they never provided much in the way of content, SP or MP campaigns. I purchased it with all the available BI DLC and it still looked pretty empty as a base point. I didn't really expect anything less from the CDLC. If you are familiar enough with A3 then install 3den Enhanced(for patrol and additional features) and make Dynamic Missions. I have made about 6 and it works quite well if you keep away from the rice paddy spawn and put a bit of thought in with the bridges. No experience, can't be bothered or a newbie then from the Steam Workshop add ALiVE and ALiVE SOG Compositions, CBA_A3, Unsung Redux Dev and Dynamic Recon Ops - Vietnam. There will be a about 4 missions from ALiVE show up with a lower amount of team mates on your side but good missions. Dynamic Recon is okay too. As always over the next few weeks and months more SP mission opportunities will accumulate in the workshop.
@@Johnnygibson007 Thanks for the answer.
@@ieslie88 No problem, open the editor, choose the map. zoom into a location like a town and throw down some troops for your side, some for the enemy, press play and shoot at each other. Build on it from there getting more complex, adding vehicles etc. as you go. There are plenty of tutorials on setting up quick missions, using 3den enhanced on UA-cam
whats with the F4's turning circle? I thought this game was supposed to be a simulator?
The faster it goes, the worse it turns. Best turn rate is with about 400-500 kph
@@venomforlife8168 no, its turning too fast, way too fast. it was nicknamed the flying bus for a reason
This game isn't suppose to be a simulator.
A tank can't knock down a grass hut? What about single player? Just a solo Rambo mode? That AI seems awfully bad.
Cry cry.. stfu go back to that trash squad that the movement mechanism is an embarrassment in itself
