Good video. I fitted a Super E kit to my 1998 1340 Evo, which had been fitted with Andrews cams. What a difference. Its mid range pulling power is effortless !
Great to hear that buddy, their accelerator pump is three times the size of the stock Mikuni carb.. so it always has fat torque on tap.. Thank for the feedback, it really helps.. Del.

Hi buddy, these S&S carbs don't have a choke in the same way that the CVs do.. if you look at the air filter, there's a little lever on top of it that lifts up, and they refer to that as the 'enricher' mechanism, and it doesn't choke off the air in the normal way, it temporarily enriches the mixture hence the name... that's why I deleted the original choke knob completely. But I love the kind of thing you suggested, coins and little mascots and things looks cool...as long as it's subtle and that, indeed, would be !
They are the grips I had on my iron, remember when I asked you about a video, which helped me, but you made it look so easy. They do look good, any chance of parting with the fat Harley ones to replace my fat chrome and leather ones, or do you keep just in case. I don’t mean for nothing obviously I would pay. Loving this project. Love the Harley’s.
Hi Ian, great to hear from you again... sadly, these ones have been tagged already, had they not been, you'd have been welcome to them mate, sorry about that. These grips I now have a my favourite shape and feel and I wouldn't use anything else, I don't have small hands, I just find fat grips a bit clumsy specially with gloves on!... Hope you're keeping well mate, good to hear from you any time, D&Px
Hey man, great video. From what I understand the kit comes fitted with a .028 intermediate and a .066 main. It comes with one extra intermediate jet and two extra main jets. Do you happen to remember what it came with? Can’t find this info anywhere and s&s has given me a different answer every time I’ve asked them directly.
Another excellent video, very educational for a novice like me, between you, TMF and Dr Vstrom you chaps are costing me a fortune👍 ps I can't wait to see the Harley on the road!
Hi Chris, great idea but this one's not for sale my friend, at least not unless something better came along, something rare and vintage, because currently, modern Harleys really don't do much for me... wouldn't swop this one for a new Harley no matter what it was!
Im not into this type of bike mate, but, this is compulsive viewing, so easy to watch the way you explain it all, actually looking forward to seeing this bike start up, lol, #converted.....
Wow those S&S carbs and air cleaners sure are sexy! You made that install look easy, Del... and sounds like you’ve got a bit of a man-cold. Hope you’re feeling better! (Just got home after 30 hours of travel... snow in the forecast in 5 hours time. Nice welcome home, right?) 🏍👍🏍
Hi Gary, oh my god, you globetrotters you lol and what a difference in climate! Wouldn't it be great if we were all successful enough to live our lives chasing the sun?!!... and yes indeed, an S&S Super E carb and dimple filter is a 44 Magnum, a Fender Strat, a Rolex Oyster, and a Levi 501 of the carb world lol Have a great week at home, and keep warm! D&Px
Hi buddy, those particular three screws come with a per-impregnanted cured threadlock already on the threads, so it looks like they've already thought of that one!... But good sound advice though mate
Del, with the carb upgrade did you consider changing the petrol delivery hose? Old rubber hoses are prone to cracking especially with the increasing ethanol content in fuel. R9 petrol hose is the minimum that should be installed. Also, I note you have jubilee style hose clips on the petrol delivery pipe, these should be changed for proper petrol pipe hose clips as the jubilee worm type can cut into the rubber pipe, the consequences of which can be disastrous.
Hi guys...Looks great! serious question...why bother with the grip glue on the left grip? it seems like you pushed that thing on and it was super tight going on...why isnt the rubber on the bar good enough friction to not have to use glue?
Hi Mike, good sense in theory, but these particular grips have a hard plastic carcass over which the grip is moulded, and that carcass doesn't stretch, it also still has a rubbery lining which makes it impossible to get on without some form of lubricant, and as you know, any lubricant stays lubricant and then it'll twist forever more, but grip glue helps it slide on then sets it in position... and this particular grip glue is awesome because a big heave with both hands and you'll break it free and then it pulls off nicely without having to be cut cos you can't do the airline trick with a solid grip... another good light grip glue is 'hairspray' as it lubes the grip on then sets, but not as well as proper grip glue!
Quick question, did you have to order longer throttle cables to get it to fit right? I'm running into a problem with the length on my stock cables. Just trying to find answers.
looks like a quality piece of kit there sir , would have a closer look into the jetting , as stock it will only be a very rough guesstimate to get it running on a stockish motor at a guess
No, not at all mate, S&S have about 30yrs heritage with these carbs and they now send them out with rideable base settings, the only variation is your altitude and temperature which they can't obviously factor in, the main thing to set up is the accelerator pump as it's a matter of taste, how much of a surge of fuel you want, but mixture and idle speed at advised settings should run normally (so they say lol)
Great video there both,S&,S make quality stuff, just watched a video on their 124ci motor, lovely piece of kit. Is the lever on the new air cleaner the choke???👍😎
Hi Geoff... yes in a way, these carbs don't have a 'choke' in the traditional way.. they call it an "enricher" works in a slightly different way, but achieves the same result.. and yes, its the elver in the back top edge of the air cleaner. And oooh yeah, 124ci motor... two whole liters of mayhem..!
Nicely done. I bet you enjoyed this install much more than prepping stuff for paint. How much horsepower do you think it will make with all the mods so far ?
Hi James, Harley's are not about horsepower, it really isn't a relevant figure, they're more about torque, they always publish a PS figure, but it's purely a willy waving exercise for salesmen to kid the un-aware.. if you've ever seen any Dyno print out you'll notice that the horsepower figure is maxed out when the bike is just off the rev limiter and when d'ya ever ride a Harley like that, but when you look at the torque graph on a Dyno print out, you'll see it's achieved much lower down in the mid-range, right where you want it and this will have big gobs of torque due to the massive accelerator pump it has and it's a Venturi carb as well, so pulls harder from a standstill as it's able to take a big deep breath right from tick over... it's gonna be fun to ride whatever the case mate!
what idiots keep giving these videos thumbs down? even if you dont like his choices in accessories, the content, camera work and instructions area all great
Yea, kinda figured you'd be upgrading to S&S, nice. Goodbye choke....... hello enrichener! 😂. Never realised that the twin cams had breather bolts in the cylinders, you live and learn. Nicely done fella, I have to say you made it look toooooo easy lol. Been there done that and I don't remember it being quite so straight forward. RSMB
Now come on Uncle Stan, you know you've done it more times than me, and you could do it from the other side of our garage with one hand whilst making a brew with the other lol...! Damn right, best carb in the world ever, can't wait to get it fired up and strt twiddling knobs (but that's another story lol)... Hope life is good brother, chat soon!
Moonfleet41 ahhhhh the beauty of carbs. It's only when you hear the idle that you realise how cool carbs are. Should sound cool after the "twiddling" 😜😂
@@softailfun Yeah, damn right, recognisable at 100 yards... tune it slightly rich on a hot day, let her hunt and surge a little at the lights, and drop the idle to about 900 rpm... perfect.!
Me being from "the other side of the pond I think I can safely say "there were many fiddly bits! ! Also my wife was not happy when I rebuilt one of those CV carbs on our kitchen table in 1986 "/
Hang on a minute, isn't that what kitchen tables are for lol... seriously, yes indeed, yuo're right, a million moving parts seem to pack in to one of these!
Throttle body? Presume you mean the carb? I just used a little regular LM grease to help the rubber seal self locate and slide in to position, nothing special...!
@@disciple777 Yes mate, it's a Wiha one, here's a link to Spanner Monkey who sell them, they are happy to ship worldwide : www.spanner-monkey.co.uk/Wiha-Torque-T-Handle-ST-Plus-TorqueVario-Set-29234
Hi del When you undid the Allan bolts on the carb manifold , you used a Allen key adapter with a thicker shank on it and then you used a spanner to loosen the Allen bolt , what’s the adapter called and where can I get one from Kind regards Mark
Hi Mark, it wasn't an allen key adapter as such, it was best described as an allen bit, it goes in a regular 1/4" socket and you can then drive it with a ratchet, but it's just a little bit of common sense thinking in such a tight space, I just use the naked allen bit itself and then turned it with a 1/4" ring spanner! Simple solution to such a tight space... !!
@@bigchappers4402 Don't worry too much about over tightening, it's a common concern, just dab some marker paint or Tippex on the bolt where you can eyeball it, perhaps with a corresponding dot on the casing next tot he bolt, and you'll soon see if it moves... check it every 50miles or so, and if so just nip it up!
Like your attention to detail Del, I try to do the same... Happy Trails, Doug
Thanks Doug, much appreciated, always good to hear from you..

Kind regards.
Thanks Beans, appreciate your support... glad you're enjoying it!
Wow, I really enjoyed that and learned so much. Thanks again Dell. Yours aye, Alan
Cheers Alan, glad you enjoyed mate... it was a fun day!
Im not into this type of bike mate, but, this is compulsive viewing, so easy to watch the way you explain it all, actually looking forward to seeing this bike start up, lol, #converted.....
Thanks Bazza, nothing like the respect of the un-initiated..lol!
Great upgrade! I really enjoy watching you work!
Thank you Sir, twas a great day!
Great job buddy, you made a difficult job look really easy, hate messing with carbs, regards Stu 🤘🤘
Tiz a wizard's art Sir, but at the same time, it's stone age technology, so don't fear it... knowledge is power buddy!
Great to watch, nice work.
D&Px
Moonfleet41 yessir-!
Meticulousness
It's the word for this episode my friend 🤓👍
Exelent very very exelent 😉
Pending like always
Best wishes
See on next one ✌️🤓
Hi David, Thank you as ever for your kind support my friend, have a great weekend and take care.. D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 equally my friend 🤓👍
And waiting the next episode
See you!!
Hint - Loctite the 3 x screws @ 14:05 - 14:21. If the air cleaner backplate screws come loose they risk being sucked in the carb.
Hi buddy, those particular three screws come with a per-impregnanted cured threadlock already on the threads, so it looks like they've already thought of that one!... But good sound advice though mate
Nice job 👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thanks mate 👍
Del, with the carb upgrade did you consider changing the petrol delivery hose? Old rubber hoses are prone to cracking especially with the increasing ethanol content in fuel. R9 petrol hose is the minimum that should be installed. Also, I note you have jubilee style hose clips on the petrol delivery pipe, these should be changed for proper petrol pipe hose clips as the jubilee worm type can cut into the rubber pipe, the consequences of which can be disastrous.
1:09 , New hose and heat sleeve supplied with the kit..!
Thanks for the great detail on the install, about to get one for my fatboy
Glad to help, good luck with it and have fun.
Great Video She is going to Look Fab Great Job Del 👏👏👌🏻👍
Thanks Chris, looking forward to getting mobile!
I changed the bars so definitely ordered shorter cables, but try re-routing first before you spend out money you don't need to.
looks like a quality piece of kit there sir , would have a closer look into the jetting , as stock it will only be a very rough guesstimate to get it running on a stockish motor at a guess
No, not at all mate, S&S have about 30yrs heritage with these carbs and they now send them out with rideable base settings, the only variation is your altitude and temperature which they can't obviously factor in, the main thing to set up is the accelerator pump as it's a matter of taste, how much of a surge of fuel you want, but mixture and idle speed at advised settings should run normally (so they say lol)
all good then
Picked up a great little tip for the Allen heads Del. Cheers
Sure thing Craig, only works with 1/4" allen screw heads, but then you can use any torx head or allen bit and a 1/4 A/F ring spanner!
So looking forward to it going back together again.
Not a Harley guy but lovin the bike so far.
Nice job del.cant wait for the black work to go on..
@@Moonfleet41 Just seen another S&S video ,& now they have a 128ci motor, (it would go straight into mine ) boys toys eh Del 👍😎x
With all that lard that throttle is going to be smooooth as butter hahahahaha on the home straight now
You know it buddy, can't beat a bit of beef tallow!... Thanks for your kind support...
This is very satisfying to watch ✌
Great job del looks great
great video very well made!!!
Thank you David, appreciate that!
This video sums it up. It's all about the torque.ua-cam.com/video/NdKqe0LdWwc/v-deo.html
You made that look very easy...👍👏🏼👌🏼
what idiots keep giving these videos thumbs down? even if you dont like his choices in accessories, the content, camera work and instructions area all great
Yea, kinda figured you'd be upgrading to S&S, nice.
@@softailfun Yeah, damn right, recognisable at 100 yards... tune it slightly rich on a hot day, let her hunt and surge a little at the lights, and drop the idle to about 900 rpm... perfect.!
Very relaxing to watch
Me being from "the other side of the pond I think I can safely say "there were many fiddly bits! ! Also my wife was not happy when I rebuilt one of those CV carbs on our kitchen table in 1986 "/
Hang on a minute, isn't that what kitchen tables are for lol... seriously, yes indeed, yuo're right, a million moving parts seem to pack in to one of these!
Awesome video to learn from, hey Del what grease did you use when attaching the gasket to the throttle body?
Throttle body? Presume you mean the carb? I just used a little regular LM grease to help the rubber seal self locate and slide in to position, nothing special...!
Hey Del, thanks , yeah the carb, sorry , I’ve been saying throttle body all week L0L
Hey Del, I wanted to ask you, is that a T torque wrench that you’re using?
@@disciple777 Yes mate, it's a Wiha one, here's a link to Spanner Monkey who sell them, they are happy to ship worldwide : www.spanner-monkey.co.uk/Wiha-Torque-T-Handle-ST-Plus-TorqueVario-Set-29234
Hi del
When you undid the Allan bolts on the carb manifold , you used a Allen key adapter with a thicker shank on it and then you used a spanner to loosen the Allen bolt , what’s the adapter called and where can I get one from
Kind regards
Mark
Hi Mark, it wasn't an allen key adapter as such, it was best described as an allen bit, it goes in a regular 1/4" socket and you can then drive it with a ratchet, but it's just a little bit of common sense thinking in such a tight space, I just use the naked allen bit itself and then turned it with a 1/4" ring spanner! Simple solution to such a tight space... !!
@@Moonfleet41 cheers del , I cut the Allan key down and did that but was just worried I didn’t get it tight enough lol
@@Moonfleet41 cheers del / I’ll do that , still got a bit to do before she runs lol - you both have a great weekend 👍🤙🏻
thanks for the video
Very nice jobb !!! Big like !!!
Awesome video Delboy ride safe
You too Kris, have a good week mate!
