Hi! Thanks for the info. I live in Florida and have acquired many succulents the last two years, I’m trying to learn as much as possible. I have a Graptopetalum, I believe it’s a superbum. It has become extremely large with many heads and buds that haven’t bloomed. The buds are very many & long. Is this normal, or is this distress?

Hi Tina, no worries. How much sun does the plant get? Sounds like it may be getting too much shade if the buds are getting long.

@@mickssucculents, good afternoon. From 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., it receives sun with partial shade as I didn’t want it to burn. However, I believe I will be moving it to a corner that receives morning sun starting at 9:00 a.m. How much direct sunlight would be too much?

@@mickssucculents, thank you so much for your time. My succulent has been moved to what I believe will be a beneficial area. Happy gardening.

Now I know why a couple of my graptopetalums died.It is very counter intuitive, this notion that succulents should be watered less in summer.I have been giving them extra watering with the start of the hot weather.

Hi Paul, yes a lot of people think to water more through Summer, but less is best. Succulents are so clever and are able to shut themselves down of taking in water as a defence mechanism and wait for when the temperatures are right, for them to wake up again and take in water.

Thank you Mick for this tip.
With this La Niña, I will be putting my Graptopetalum amethystinum away from the constant rain.
