Hello UA-camrs and Welcome to our Channel!
I'm Mick and together with my wife and two daughters we run a small family operated succulent and cacti nursery in Mudgee, NSW, Australia. (Ok to be honest the girls don't help that much but they are only 5 and 1! They try haha!)
I'm a qualified Horticulturist, Nurseryman, and Landscaper and have been in the industry for over a decade. Throughout this time I've managed several retail and wholesale nurseries. In 2016 I began propagating succulents in my Illawarra backyard for fun and before long I was hooked! Since then my hobby has turned into a full blown succulent obsession!
If you would like to learn some tips and tricks of the trade, or just want to follow our journey, you can also find us on Facebook and Instagram @mickssucculents

Really enjoyed the video do you get mealy bug in Australia they are a pain in England
Hi William, we sure do get them here sadly 😞
I only have one plant thats sending up just one flower bud! Can you pollinate one plant with its own pollen ?
And here i thought the white dust on my new succulent (from bunnings) was normal 😅 smh haha its quite thick since I've had it for a few months now, would this solution still work? Or is it best to bin the plant and start again? Lol because now im noticing it travel to my other succulents ( im in qld also)
SE Qld'er here. I keep seeing lots of conflicting info on when these guys are dormant and growing. Have seen other southern aussies saying Echeveria are active in winter. Written articles online are worse, and it doesnt seem to matter if its american or australian, there is no consistency.
Thank you for this video, sir! It has helped me as a US grower understanding this plant!
Your very welcome. Glad to hear you found it helpful 😀👍
I have an indoor echeveria that has flowered every spring. Is it possible for it to produce viable seeds without pollination?? There are seeds in the dried stalks I have.
Thank you! I couldn’t find a video on separating the bulbs until yours. This was so helpful!
Your very welcome 😀👍 glad to hear you found it helpful.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Congratulations ! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Are you still around? Thank you for the fantastic videos
Why not set up the tripod so she can talk too! Little distracting when the director is talking over the person in front of the camera.
Again ! THANK YOU ! 🙏 👍
I enjoy your video very very much ! YOU DID GIVE ME ALL THE ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS ! I have subscribed your channel right away ! The best thing is to mix the seeds with sand ! Thanks again from Hong Kong ! 👏👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Can you do more on sempervivums? Cross pollinating?
If the out leaves are extremely overwatered from the store I purchased from and new leaves are fully formed and still can’t absorb them, can you cut off part of the old leaves to help?
Bump, having this exact situation with three of them! They are practically done splitting but there’s still so much water in the old leaves…shriveled a bit but still
Can you do a video on sedum?
Sure 🙂👍
When you head chop an echeveria, do you cut the entire rosette and just leave the stalk? Will it really sprout multiple new rosettes from the top? It feels a bit scary to chop the head off of my beautiful plant.
I like to leave them bc the flowers attract lots of hummingbirds. But now that I know they propagate well, I might need to expand my collection.
The birds that come in the nursery to feed on the flowers are nice too 🙂
I’d love a video that breaks down the different varieties and when each is dormant/growing so I can make a chart. 😊
I have mealybugs on my attenuata and can’t seem to irradiate them! The bugs hide deep between the leaves and it’s hard to treat. I’ve tried a bit of rubbing alcohol diluted in water which usually works on my other plants that have had mealybugs, but to no avail on my attenuata. Any advice??
Loving all the info I’m learning about succulents from your channel. Most of which I own as I’m in San Diego and they are sooo easy to care for here. I found myself incredibly distracted though by that gorgeous arrangement just behind your elbow though! 🥰 would love some videos about planting arrangements and the like. Thank you for sharing!
I’m in the northern hemisphere in San Diego California. When you refer to seasons, are you talking about your local climate in the summer months?
Yes, about our climate here in Aus 🙂
I have these and they are dying can you please help me. I only water them once per day idk why they're dying
Try to avoid watering them daily. Perhaps once a week to once a fortnight. Sounds like they may have died from overwatering.
@@mickssucculents yeah they died 😂
"In my opinion... you should be more careful in separating the child from its mother, because you have already eliminated the other child...
Do you buy seeds and if so , where from? Thanks
I just ordered from Vincent's on Etsy. Good deals, highly recommended! 💚
Does this flower smell..?
From memory I don't think so. It would be lovely if it did 😁
@@mickssucculents thanks for info..🙏🌿
This was so helpful thank you!!
do you deal with Cotyledon singularis ?
Do you have to chill your seed first??
I would like to try a cross pollination of Echeveria Elegans x Echeveria agavoides
Do you put rooting horomone right after you cut them or after it caluses?
Fresh cuts not after callousing
Thank you so much 👍🇮🇩
BEAR'S PAW COTYLEDON TOMENTOSA Rare shrub succulent with fuzzy green leaves that are tipped with tiny "claws". Water every couple of weeks in summer, and only about once a month in winter. Loves bright, indirect sunlight
I have succulent plants that have pups growing but they aren’t the same as yours in the video .. is there a way I can send a video of them too you for advice on how to pot them and care for ???
Great video, thanks for showing me how to collect the seeds. Having a greenhouse while its raining is a bonus. I'm enjoying mine because I can work on my plants in winter
So sorry about the scammers:( your succulents are beautiful! Congratulations to the winners!!
This is gold!!!!!
Where do you buy your seeds from? Thanks for the information in your video.
Hi Charlene, we don't buy our Echeveria seed. We pollinate our own parent plants and collect seed from them 🙂👍
What is best time to propagate in uk please
I would say in your Spring/Summer 🙂👍
Thank you, I bought that exact fertiliser and gave my succulents a teaspoon/table spoon each this morning.
Your welcome 🙂👍 the great thing about it, is that it breaks down fast and the plants can get the nutrients out of it faster 👍
I’m wish you also show how to use this - product .. Zlata Florida
Hi. This is a fantastic video. I learned a lot thanks to you, thank you! 1:04 I tried to pollinate my baby toes flowers and I think it work because it is getting plumpier (previous flowers I didn't touched got thin and just dried out), but how do I know when will it be time to harvest the seeds? I read flower bud must dried and get crispy? Can you help me out? thanks
Glad you found the video helpful 😀👍 yes you will notice the flower getting plumpier when pollination has worked. Wait until the seed pod has dried completely and then harvest the seed pod and place them in water to open the pod to get the seeds out. Sometimes I use a toothpick to get the seed out. Hope that helps and answers your questions 😀👍
@@mickssucculents do you know if this effect of flower buds getting pumplier after a successful pollination is shared by more/most plants / succulents? Your videos are great, lots of plants, beautiful! Thank you for everything =)
he kill all the babys 😢
A nuisance which I have in my area (Outside the USA) is black rot - While my Echeverias seem mostly resistant to pests, black rot (which I assume is a fungus) may hit at anytime. The Echeverias would grow well for few months without any problem. A black rot infestation may start either at the base (from the roots or anywhere on the base of the stem) as well as at the growth tip. In either case, the rot spreads very quickly and the plant may drop its leaves overnight. The rosette appears to "shatter" without notice and drop all of its leaves almost at once.
If i buy meat the blood in the bottom of the meat tray gets put in my aloes and schlumbeger Christmas cactus i have had no problems.cheers.
That's interesting. Glad to hear that works for you 🙂👍

Spring is a great time to water it. I would be doing it weekly atm 🙂👍
Great video, thanks Mick !
