- Watch Captain Jamison, his crew of 3 beautiful blondes, and his family charter the KEKOA, a 55 foot catamaran, around the Virgin Islands. A family business of boat building quickly took a different turn when KEKOA, one of their masterpieces, was abandoned at sea after a strong storm. Jamison grabbed his family of 5, moved to St. John, and began chartering the reclaimed and repaired KEKOA all around the islands.

Sitting here at my desk in the office in UK, trying to hold back tears..
Congratulations on making a life worth living..
This is so inspiring..
Is it me or is this guy like a real life matthew mcconaughey..
I remember working at the old navy yard in Charleston as a commercial dive instructor and driving by the Jamison's little fenced in area nearby where they were building that boat. It was the highlight of my day seeing the progress they made. I sooooo should have stuck my head in there and said what's up. There were some "good vibes" emanating from there. Got lost in you tube land and ended up finding this video via a woodworking link. Very inspirational, thank you Jamisons!
Last September a group of friends and myself were lucky enough to be able to take a day trip with Jamison and his crew. The ten of us had the whole boat to ourselves and it was heavenly. Each time any of us get together the topic of conversation always turns to our trip on the Kekoa and how we will be hard pressed to top that day! I would recommend sailing with them to any and everyone! I myself can't wait to get back and do it again!
All I can say is WOW, here I sit working 3rd shift and stumbled upon this vid. I am envious and happy for Captain Jamison and his family. It's nice to hear that there are people out there living out their dreams. He seems to be a humble and a loving father not driven by greed or money hungry like the way it's embedded in our heads here in the states (work hard play hard bullsh*t). I wish them a life of happiness and good health so that it can continue and effect more people. God bless
I woke up early this morning gawking at sailing videos as usual.. stumbled across this video and literally inspired me to pack up my stressful/ hectic life and begin a more simple life.. i spent all day planning out the next year to pay off my debt and sell most of what i own in order to achieve a simpler happier life such as this.. "thank you for living a life worth living"!!!
Nice, it beats sitting behind a computer watching videos haha
I watched the Kekoa, morning and evening, from the window of the apartment my wife and I spent our anniversary trip in a few weeks ago. I wish I'd seen this video sooner to know the "life" held within it, as I can barely contain myself now! At a place where I wish we could snap our fingers and make "a move," this is truly an inspiration. Kudos on making a dream reality when too many others of us pause in the name of "safety and security." It's out there, we just have to see it!!
Nice story. Great video! I moved moved away from the USA for a South Pacific island over 7 years ago. I have earned my new citizenship & have a great life as I am self-employed & work 9-10 months a year by choice, travel 1-2 months a year and have many friends originally from all over the world. My USA grown high cholesterol is gone, I am emotionally & physically fit and enjoy my life. I have even fulfilled 2 of my 3 childhood lifelong dreams since departing the USA....!!
"Leap and net will appear!"
All thumbs up for living your dream...not just a vacation. I lived a fabulous life in the Mexican Caribbean for three years, can't wait to go back. Good for you man!
The island lifestyle shown on this episode is exactly what we are looking for during our sailing adventure!
Why on earth would anyone "dislike" this video? Good for you Captain Jamison and your family - I'm jealous.
"Congrats on making a life worth living..."
Thats a great line. Great video!
Living on a boat, I did it for over 20 years mostly in the Med. and in a moment of madness in Monastir, Tunisia I was offered a lot of money for my boat and was daft enough to accept. I was boatless and to make matters worse I frittered the money away. I fetched up in Ft. Lauderdale Florida and there built a 30 foot catamaran, a Roger Simpson ground effect, I was back on the water where I stayed until my massive heart attack.
You should make a video about it. It is cool story :)
Yes we sailors have tales to tell for sure such a beautiful life living and cruising did it a decade...living now in a paradise in a beautiful tropical home my husband got tired of the half days of maintenance the price you pay for the cruising life. Hope you are doing well now. I still miss the open port, over myhead the stars at night, the motion of the boat on long crossing the most.I was BORN to liveaboard.
Well as the proud Moma and Grandmother of those in the story! I would just like to say Thank you to all those involved in making this video happen! nicely done! We are all very proud of the accomplishments of our family. Thank you for showing it to the world!
Back to watch a 2nd time and found this episode even better. Such a beautiful place. We went on a catamaran to the BVI from St John to the Soggy Dollar and Foxy's for lunch. It was the best day of my life. Can't wait to get back there! Camped at Maho Bay Camps. So sad to hear they closed it. God I loved that place.
From a 32' Sailboat restorer. ! Long live the dream!
Wow, cut me off a piece of that life, now that's living. Great work and Cheers to the whole family and crew.
How could anyone not like this story? Kudos!
what a wonderful story of a family living and making a living on the ocean, great looking Catamaran wish them success
You guys are AMAZING! Thank you for truly living and sharing this incredible inspiration!
Thank you Captain Jamison & family. Everyone of you inspire me & my family.
Can't wait to sail again! ~ Cheers!
P.S. Mrs. Jamison, you are the "Super-Mom" indeed!
they are living the good beach life...so laid back and cool. amazing!
awesome! so jealous - this is my goal and I will achieve it - not the building part - but living on boat and chartering around the Carribean. thanks for sharing :)
Greetings from Charleston! Love the video.... loved my sail aboard Kekoa in March 2012. Hope to be back down there soon!
Cool family and boat. Nice island lifestyle =)
YEah my daughter is a retired CG Dolphin helicopter pilot. BOats are so beautiful but so much work to,maintain at 60 and 65 we finally swallowed the anchor after a lifetime of sailing since childhood
Beautiful. My first trip down there was kind of last-minute, so we weren't able to spend a day on Kekoa, but we will next time!
That would be awesome to be able to travel and sail with your family like that. To spend your life doing what you love i think would be everybodys dream.
Love this show!!
Thanks, I have a similar story and your video has encouraged me not to loose sight of 'the dream'. I'm at the part where the boat is gone...
Just watched this and really enjoyed it good look on your adventure .
I wish I could like this more than once!! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!!!
This is fantastic! Thank you!
Very inspiring! Thanks for sharing.
Just watched the show guys. Much respect and admiration. Great job
This is truly inspiring, brilliant.
this is my life's dream...if i have my way, this is what i'm going to be doing with my life. truly inspiring.
Reading the comments of some of the ill wishing grumpy and seriously sad people is unreal. Maybe simply afraid of living a dream like the video above or could simply be jealousy. If there was no interest they would not watch it! Its a great story of people who break the traditional mold of go to work go home go to work go home live in suburbia drive a minivan maybe have a nice weekend here or there or vacation few times per year.. I love the spirit and living some people with guts do..
+Jonas Eklund I scrolled to the bottom of the first page of comments and didnt see any negative ones... however I have seen plenty of them left on other episodes of this series. you are absolutely right, it comes down to jealousy and losers want to tear down people that are happy instead of building themselves up.
That's a lifestyle that people only dream about. I think this would give a lot more people inspiration about doing the things they want to do..It certainly got me thinking..
Man your kids on the sofa zoned out like that breaks my psychologist heart...PhD academic psychologist retired, cruiser, for ten years now living on the side of a gorgeous volcano in Guatemala
this is what I call Bloody Perfect Life!!! love life style design!!
thank you for making my dream come true
My bags are packed!
Loved it!
Great vid.
Great guy and a great adventure life to live.
Living the dream, good for you!
firkin incredible, man......grats!
It is truly a Beautiful life!!! Good on Ya
love the name! between the handful of us that visited St John we drank a bare minimum of 20 ltrs of cruzan rum in 6 days
I love people who pursue their dreams and ideal life. I hope you all are safe after Hurricane Irma.
Just shared on my facebook page too.
Wow just inspirational I gota do something with my life
scratch that.. can anyone just tell all the tracks... its all amazing..
amazing life... i'm inspired.. can anyone tell me the name of song when they surf.. oceanbreeze something... great upload!!!
Nice place nice boat nice life. One day i hope
cool story, cooler family
You inspired me more than you know.
I now want to build a boat!
VitaMix at 10:40. Love that.
The Virgin Islands rock! If you haven't checked them out - you really should!
Best St. Thomas Boat Rentals shhhhh - don't say that so loud! It might get crowded with people who don't understand "soon come". :)
Living the dream!
who designed that boat and where can i buy the building plan??
Its the Burning River Ramblers, singing Russian Roulette... great track btw.
HOw funny, small world. What I mean is that I see this SV KCKOA anchored at the Soggy Dollar quite a bit lately. I watch SD cam daily
Awesome life! Who designed the boat?
arizon lake had a boat drop last month
during the kids street surfing what road was that on?
not an easy life, but a pretty awesome one it looks like
haha! A fellow 3rd shifter. Grass is always greener on the other side where there's a sun. Lol. Great story of true American gumption.
Follow your bliss, Yousuf. The world is wide open.
I have watched several of these now and i have one critique. They never ask the most important questions like start up costs, or the net worth of the person before they moved down.
Does anyone know the song playing at the 18 minute mark?
where are the credits for this show? I'd love to know the names of the songs used as background music... especially the one that plays while they are surfing.
RedroomStudios I'm here looking for the name of that track. Tried searching the lyrics, but not having luck.
ya, I spent several hours looking for it based on lyrics and anything else I could think of with no luck. my guess is the song was commissioned just for this show and isnt publicly available. too bad though because they could be making money by selling it...
Kudos to truly living
Iiving the life
Sadly I saw the Kekoa on Hansen Bay after Irma and Maria. It's been resorted.
what is that song 18:20??
Lets take this to a higher level. Fatu Hiva. The Caribbean is fun, but lets leave the upscale harbors.
Not sure I understood what happened with the boat. It was sold, being delivered by a crew the buyers chose? So how did you end up with it again? Did you buy it from the insurance co.?
Video explains when the sale of the boat failed due to the economy they made a lease deal instead, so the boat was still his when it was abandoned out in the Atlantic. They went out to it and returned it under its own power, then repaired it.
Dude reminds me of Matthew Mcconaughey. His life def doesnt suck.
22:20 My FREAKIN HERO!
they left out a critical point. learning how to build a boat.
Ugh! St. John. I'm moving, call the Realtor!
Look if there is a will there is a way, don't shoot people down because you lack the desire to follow your own dreams!
I'm sure you helped make it happen. I tip my hat to you.
hard life
the boat is just fine, but its the blonde that catch my eye
The dude totally looks like Matthew McConaughey.
did I miss how he learned boat building ?
Chic digs you
my bad KEKOA
The most insipiring video i have seen in years.
Relax on couch, start video, maximize screen, popup thing appears, minimize screen, close popup thing, maximize screen, popup thing appears, minimize screen, close popup thing, maximize screen, popup thing appears, minimize screen, close popup thing, maximize screen......are we having fun yet?
I suspect that his kids maybe in the states eyes would be unconnected but truth be told with educated parents these kids will probably be more rounded and adventurous and productive in there life because of the fact that technology is killing our young I speak from a man who grew up when there was no technology like we see today and raised 3 boys it has in many ways been great in some ways and areas but terrible for us in others I think we can lay alot of this at the feet of the downward decline that we see in our youth today along with many other things, the time that's not taken with our kids in today's world compared to older times and the respect and punishment that was out lawed etc, etc we will comtinue on this decline other then those families that don't let today's world effect the raising of there children it wouldn't take much to look at kids from the 70 let's say and the kids from the 90s or 2000 and see the difference on a Hugh scale of how there respect or lost identity in the youth of even today per capital hands down policies have affected the not only home life, family values, and out look of today youth only in those home that wasn't going to have this things dictated to them would you see the youth better rounded with a clearer future they would run so bravo no matter what they said they did it obviously against what most said and I commend them for that fact is I've thought about it alot myself and many others by see all these chanel of people dropping these chains society has put on them and us ignorantly doing so thinking that's just what responsible people do but who's to say what's right for you or your family we see the exodus happening all over the world life's to short I get it
Im not sure whether i fully understood the story. You really sold the boat and shortly after, you reclaimed it from the sea when it was abandoned by new owners? If that is true, then you are really lucky bastard. Congratulations!
it was still their boat. someone was going to use it to charter trips or whatever down south, they left with it..these guys bailed and left the boat.. so he stood to lose a lot.. but he got it back
+I Probably Don't Like You you got it right.
yeah listening comprehension..lol
i want to go makea boat and charter for them ;[ damn it
I thought there were heinous consequences for abandoning "the team", being happy and not slaving away for some farcical deity. Good job, may many others follow.
My life is boring =P
no sh*t huh, maybe someday I'll grow a set and live my dream, untill then I'll just keep pluggin along and dreaming
So who wants to build a boat?
