Five years later, they are happier and healthier than ever. Rob is in a band, Nadine has written a book, and they wake up every morning excited to see what the day will bring. As a matter of fact Costa Rica is reopening on August 1 of this year. Do your research before you make yourself look like an ignorant dumb ass!

This couple taught me so many things about life in 24 minutes than I have in the past 22 years. Im a 22 year old Costarican guy from San Jose whos goal is to make lots of money and experience what the American dream is and I have to admit that Ive been stressed and very unhappy. I feel happier now after watching this 24 min video. God, what they say somehow made me see how blind Ive been. I am young, healthy, smart but havent realized that I live in a paradise and being happy and providing yourself and your family what is needed to live is what it is all about. Thank you for making these videos. They really help :)

After reading through some of the comments, it made me ask the question “where is the negativity coming from?” My wife and I made a similar move to Puerto Rico. I immediately identify with many parts of this video. The thing that I really enjoy about the move to the Caribbean is how I changed and became part of the local culture. My friends are puertorican. I’m interested in how things are done and am forever asking questions and learning. Being from the Northeast, work and money is something that is all around and you become that. It takes a real effort to stay in that environment and leave that mindset. To travel and live in an environment that places a lessor value on those things makes it much easier. Now comes the contradictory part - we bought a rundown shell of a house and started to renovate it with the idea of entertaining people there to share our experience....sure we’ll earn some money....but the money isn’t the driving force. Retirement isn’t leaving something you dislike, it’s running to something you do. So I’ve just finished my morning coffee....if you excuse me, I have to clean up some of my banana trees. Buen día 😎👍🌴🇵🇷

There are many "Costa Rica" happy places in the world. I am ex-pat (US) and now live in a small town in New Zealand on the ocean. I love my life now. What ever your dream is, do it. Don't wait, but choose your country wisely. Once you find your new country, then book that one-way flight to your new home.
I used to work 50 weeks a year at 45-50 hours a week. I sold all my stuff in the USA, left and now I work 9 months a year at most and travel a lot. I have also finished 2 of my 3 major lifelong goals since arriving here. I have lost my high cholesterol, and I am fit again! This is just in the last 7 years.

Shelley: As a 5 year resident of CR, my advice is RENT BEFORE YOU BUY. House & apartment prices are VERY high in CR, and construction quality is generally not up to US standards. You should be able to find a small house or apartment for $400 - $600/ month in a decent area. ALSO, another thing - LEARN SPANISH ! Otherwise, you will alway be a "stranger in a strange land".

A blessing in disguise that the imported foods you are used to are so expensive, then you eat all the WFPB/Vegan foods, and LOOK by default you are VERY HEALTHY! You are also helping the local small farmers and biz owners earn an income! This is sooo awesome!!
I had to get healthy because of my heart issue, and have found that this country is soooo stressful and I have to guard myself from that! I do, but it is sooo hard. I also can live there nicely on my SS, which is impossible to do in the states - even by renting a room (still no money left over to do anything). This video for me was a message from God - what to do next with my life.
Even his gorgeous body was a message to me. Tomorrow, I was due to start my gym membership and get the body I promised myself over the next few months. Trouble is, I can't really afford it right now and was searching for a way to get a great body by working out at home (I have a small space and no equipment). The fact that he has that body from that 'prison room gym' fits me perfectly.
All perfect, perfect messages and perfect timing.
Oh yeah, and I also want a woman like he has :)

@J Cripps silly conjecture? you are a fool. If I had a son, I would be lecturing him from the moment he could speak to NEVER ask out a female in school or in the work place. Never tell a joke or laugh at a joke (even a clean joke), in fact if possible do not hire females because they can and some do lobby sexual harassment charges, merely for offering constructive criticism, or discipline if they break the rules (show up late, not get their work done on time, etc).

As a costarican i can tell you that is all about location. A lot of ex- pats or tourists decide to look for a cheap location or worse cheap labor (illegal inmigrants that received less money under the table) and end up paying a hard price for it. For example, the girl that was killed last year in an airbnb escazu , was in a property owned by an american that hire a guard illegally and it turn out to be a rapist running away from his country.
A lot of them also prefer to go to places like Jaco, which us basically an american owned by now and most Costaricans tend to avoid the place because is a full on red light district with a lot of sugar dadies, prostitution and sketchy people all around.

Funny how the local native people of these kinds of places have been told they are poor savages and need to move to some western country to escape. But, all of a sudden when a white western person moves to these so called “third world” countries, all of a sudden it’s paradise and they’ve discovered how life should be. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️...I tell my young family members everyday to remember they live in paradise and there is absolutely nothing benifical about becoming a money slave in the west, if you can survive completely off your own land and efforts with no need to ever go to a supermarket because your land provides you with everything including natural medicine, without hardly any need for money, you are the freest riches person in the world.

    • @sambawomen

Wayfarer None of my family before my parents ever worked for anyone else and lived abundantly off their land for centuries. Their parents were sold a dream of streets paved in gold in the west and told that their way of life was “uncivilised” by Europeans, and the parents sent their kids to rebuild countries in the west destroyed by war, and became slaves to a system that to this day does not welcome them. Now they go back home and realise the retirement dream life they just spent their lives working towards in the west is the same life they lived naturally as children anyway, free with no master or paycheque. Land and the soil gives all you need and the land they inherited from their family’s is the greatest inheritance they have, and now it’s my inheritance which I will never turn my back on or sell. My ancestors provided and I am eternally grateful.
