I love how they predicted the trolling that the multiplayer option would inevitably bring
They most likely had beta testers who ended up trolling each other most of the time, so it wasn't a prediction more so a selling point!
@@stank7200 They definitely knew before that.
Doesn't take a genius to realize the sadistic minds of two friends
Man if only i had friends to play with in the first place
@@freeze_zane0691 *so relatable ._.*

6 seconds of trust is still more than any cod game
youre right XD
***** And try to 360 noscope the enemy, and instead of yelling "I'm hit" when shot yell "Hacker"
StyroNo 1 especially modern warfare 2
@Cerese but it's fun :{
Cerese I wish people made more innovative FPS’s like titanfall instead of making another generic CoD or battlefield
Wow, with 6 extra seconds the robots could easily take us over!
Joseph's right there already taking over!
Yeah, after the terminators exterminate us, they'll go on a civil war on each other.
***** Doesn't matter, I like prostitutes.

Whoever came with the Cave Johnson Character and wrote this script for the ads is a pure marketing genius !
Very inspiring :)
that's erik wolpaw, i believe
ok so the voice actor is the amazing J.K. Simmons, and the creator and writer for Cave Johnson is Erik Wolpaw.

that little "yee-ut!" as p-body quickly and efficiently bumps atlas into an incinerator with no second thoughts explains what every single co-op playthrough looks like better than words ever could
6 extra seconds of thought
P-body really said YEET
When my friend and I played Portal 2, we spent literally 20 minutes killing each other in that block puzzle, where one person needs to press the button.
I'm confused. What are you supposed to do?

A FULL SIX SECONDS!
Wait the 6 seconds of the rating or the robots
Where can I get one?
Still more cooperation than 2fort.

which is still times more cooperation than in any call of duty game.
295 people were fired for making THOSE ROBOTS
Update: now we will never know how many lore were fired :(
Evan Bernardi plus 2
And you know what? That's perfectly fair. Don't do your job right and you don't deserve to keep it.
Yeah I'm totally not taking this comment too seriously in a philosophical manner.
did the new people just follow the blueprint from the other guys?
They was fired cuz' cave didn't had enough money to pay all of them.
I find it hilarious that Cave Johnson’s narrating this when he died before any of these things were produced
When he dies (late 80s) Aperture was already building, testing and working with robots. Obviously not Atlas and Pbody
I'd like to think it's the same alternate universe from the perpetual testing initiative.
Commentur The Great Blaperture Science
He recorded all of those in advance, of course.
He was narrating the concept of these, not the actual built ones
0:40 I'm not gonna lie. That's me in Co-op mode.
XD
*thats
"BAM"
As our data clearly shows, humans cannot be trusted.
Yeah, if my partner is being a pain I'm the same way...
If you pay attention, there's actually a bit of a narrative here. P-Body (I think) is always the "victim" in the trust exercises, and he's the one who pushed Atlas (I think) into the pit. So he actually had a motive aside from just giving six extra seconds of trust.
I like how the ending perfectly shows how playing in co-op with your best friend usually works
Don’t forget the “taking off partner’s head” emote
Gotta love the humor... It's so smart. The first Portal changed everything about puzzle games. with its unique, immersive and mysterious laboratory scenarios(and a user-friendly FPS view) This game honestly tested my brain in ways i didnt know were possible, haha(Vanilla Crazy Cake
Seeing these comments is so fucking surreal lol
@@TheUnoriginalDrCorgi ass crash
@@TheUnoriginalDrCorgiit was truly a different time
i love how accurate this is to playing actual co-op
I always loved the detail that Atlas and P-Body are made from a personality core and a turret, with arms and legs stuck on.
Aperture Science will save money at any opportunity.
...I never noticed that, but that's awesome!
Basic Valve things , instead of making new assets they are always using old ones first portal made in Half Life assets . Hell , the only reason Half Life and Portal are in the same universe because of the Half Life assets used a lot in portal.
@@kafasnasapanlatasattgmnogl7414 I’m pretty sure they have completely different models, they just look similar. I don’t think it’s a Time saving method, more of intentional design.
I can’t believe I never caught that 🤦♂️
agreed.
Our data clearly shows that humans- *punch* -can not be trusted... XD
Clearly, robots are the same way. So therefor, robots are just humans.
Then should we trust Cave? He is a human.
@@gamerboygb6041 No, you should trust science!
@@WhiteWhistleBondrewd But irl science keeps changing it's mind. Why trust science?
Best video ever. The entire thing is amazing, and the subtle jokes like "creating a foundation of mutual respect", meanwhile P-body is the only one ever in danger until the last scene. :D
are u alive
... More proof that these two are more friends than many humans could ever be.
Seriously, if I could just be rebuilt like that, I would have had my friends throw me into all kinds of lethal situations. And I would have laughed with them and dragged them in with me as I plummeted to my (temporary) doom.
P-body's expression at thee end it s like: "DID I DO GOOD!? :D"
I just noticed her blinking at every pan hit ATLAS did to himself, which is hilarious too
I rofl everytime I watch that robot hitting himself with the pan
That moment when YOU have to cook dinner...
Concept atlas is what i’d like to call him
Mrfoxfam _DoesStuff what about the other one is it concept p body?
Reminds me of the meme where Patrick nailed a board on his forehead

"The simulated bond of artificial friendship"
Oh, just like most of my high school friends then
Inspiring stuff.
BAM! Robots gave 6 extra seconds of cooperation, good work robots
Not work its job
Cave Johnson, we're done here
0:40
I love how proud and happy P-Body looks after literally commiting robot-slaughter
I love the detail of how P-Body is the one always being put through the dangerous parts of the trust exercises, which is probably why she pushed Atlas at the end as a middle finger to him lol
I just love how he delivers the "Humans... can not be trusted." :-)
All right, another Investment Opportunity video! I'm loving Cave Johnson and the P-Body and Atlas duo in these videos along with the humor and visual style in them.
So trust is important in the actual co-op mode. Without it, you can't progress in co-op. Anyway, I liked the usage of the Frying Pan from L4D2 and the preorder Scuba Gear. Valve also has been showing the duo running with their Portal Guns, and yet something bad happens to one of them. Good work in making us hyped for Portal 2, Valve.
A FULL SIX SECONDS AND TWO ROBOTS 6 DIVIDED BY 2 THREE IS 3 PORTAL 3 CONFIRMED
Good job robots
It was 5.99999999999999999999999999999999999998 seconds.
you are correct three is 3
Valve: What is "3"?
Jazzy Drawz stop making up numbers.
It’s amazing that Aperture was able to make things Black Mesa was only scratching the surface of decades before the resonance cascade event….and they use it for the dumbest things possible.
Cave Johnson and Caroline are probably the smartest idiots ever
"and bam! they give us six more seconds of co-operation" I laughed so hard I think I almost puked
I'm the guy that just kicked myself after realizing I had seen this game on the shelf and decided not to buy it.

You can't imagine how hard I cracked up when he said ''the solution: robots'' while the robot hits itself with a pan xD
Atlas had it coming for leading P-Body into a LaunchPad and nearly burning its head off with a laser.
me:
UA-cam: Look at this nearly decade old commercial for a game you enjoyed.
A perfect representation of how real players play.
You guys have the best humor of any game companies I know. And, if a 45-year-old housewife mother of two (my mom) just laughed at this, you know that it's good.
i love how they reference the pancake flipping robot. excellent job, valve
Cave Johnson here, fact the key to any cooperative test is trust. And as our data clearly shows, humans cannot be trusted. The solution? Robots. Then fire the guys who made those robots and build better robots. Then run those robots through a regimen of trust exercises, creating a foundation of mutual respect reinforced by the simulated bonds of artificial friendship. Inspiring stuff. And finally, we put that trust to the test. Bam! Robots gave us 6 extra seconds of cooperation.
wow 6 extra seconds xD
Michael Maszk impressive
Better than I can do
Michael Maszk That's real progress
Cave Johnson is like my science teacher.

Rest in peace teach
The stuff that Valve puts out never ceases to amuse me, amaze me and keep me as a customer.
I can’t be the only one who thinks Atlas and P-Body are really cute, right?
I still can’t get “Caution: Rogue Robots” out of my brain after watching this.
I'm sure that Valve already knows everyone wants Episode 3 and that they know what they are doing.
God damn this hit hard
LMAO
Spend billions of dollars in investigation and development of cooperative bots for 6 extra seconds of cooperation in a test = success!

They really couldn't have found a better voiceover actor for Cave Johnson. From JJJ in Spiderman, through Chief Pope in The Closer, and a shrink in Law and Order... to this. But his talent is undeniable.
The humor and gameplay in this game is top notch.
Thank you Valve for making your own ads! They're almost as entertaining as your games! ^_^
This video is one of many that unironically made me persue a career in robotics and engineering
This entire video sums up me and my friend playing this game. Good job VALVe!
If you count the time that the humans and robots are in the testing chamber you'll see that the robots killed one another earlier in the 4th second in the chamber...
I like how the robots gave 6 extra seconds of cooperation compared to humans even though they only lasted 4 seconds
Guy: Makes robots
Cave Johnson: YOU'RE FİRED!
0:40 ok this got me when it was first was released and it uh, still does.
Valve is seriously so good at making awesome games
It is truly amazing at how well these robots can navigate the test chambers, considering that they dont have any depth perception.
This perfectly encapsulates what it feels like to play multiplayer...
The most replayed part of the video is atlas whacking himself with a pan is the best

Oh, look! It's the couple from the Valentine's Day vid-
O_o
jk Simmons is a good voice actor
Six extra seconds?! THAT'S INCREDIBLE!!
I like how Atlas is pointing and waving even though P-body is blindfolded.
If aperture science is that broke investment wise, then how did they make a fully functional portal device??? Usually stuff like that costs trillions of research money.., that's what I've always wondered
Science.
it's funny as well, because making a portal gun would make you the richest person on earth. You know how much money NASA would save? It would literally decrease the costs of space travel to ZERO.
There would still be a cost for proper safety gear, alongside oxygen, the salary for the astronauts and a room that is completely sealed off, therefore safe to expose to the vacuum of space for any amount of time.
Knight Shade Okay, sure. But sending people into space is one of the most expensive parts of space travel - in fact America's NASA funding got cut so badly that they cannot send people into space anymore.
Most of the research was already done by the time Aperture went bankrupt.
In Old Aperture there's a sign for the Quantum Tunneling Device which seems to be a non handheld portal device.
Also in the PTI they found an AU that had money growing on trees so that's where that money came from.
0:20 Wheatley is designed to be a moron for real lol
11 years ago and it still awesome!
0:20 - The Roll Cage skin from when you pre-ordered Portal 2! :D
Humans can't be trusted... What's sad is id do the same to most of my friendsXD
Science.
valve not only knew people would be trolling and team killing their partner, but they leaned into that with their marketing. the saying of "the AAA industry are just playing catch up to valve" holds true for even their commercials
not only that, but they intentionally made doors capable of killing players in co-op, this isn't even a thing in the main campaign.
and there's so many other things they intentionally implemented to allow trolling to be more fun.
0:19 to 0:23, legit 90's aperture. Love it.

The solution..... **snap** ROBOTS!
Blue robot: **bam bam bam bam** **falls**
Can someone explain me something: Why other words like "wood" or "book" are pronounced as _wʊd_ and _bʊk_, and in words like "cooperation" or "zoology", the two "oo" are pronounced different?
"cooperation" is pronounced as "co-operation" because "co" is a prefix to the word "operation". It means to work together or "operating together".
"Zoo" comes from the Greek word for animal and is pronounced that way in Greek. I suppose it just looks weird to have "Zooology" with three "o"s.
'humans cannot be trusted'
*me* Wow cave, you sure did your homework in historyclass,
I agree with him. We can't be trusted.
WE humans can never know to be trusted or something to what we agree on..
10 years ago, the Gamecube was released. It was the biggest revolution in cube based technology, since the Weighted Storage cube.
Goddamn, 6 extra seconds? That's like almost an entire Über
6 seconds? not quite my tempo
whiplash? x)
GLaDOS gave you 6 picoseconds before she killed you with neurutoxins... its 6 picoseconds humans took 7 picoseconds to do the exact same thing.
I don't know why but I just love the way Cave Johnson says "Robots"
I timed it, and it actually is almost EXACTLY six seconds from the robots walking out of the door to the time that one gets shoved in.
and this is why I love portal😂
"humans cannot be trusted"
considering how every time i try to play any co op i just get murdered by my teammate, that seems about right
6 extra seconds of cooperation GENIUS

This is the best one I say. I just love J.K. Simmons' sense of deadpan humor! Why is he not in more movies?
I like the accuracy of this
@omlas6 the 'main' storyline continues with Chell, at the end of Portal 1 it seemed like she escaped, but in a comic like thingy (made by valve i think) it is explained what happens next. And in portal 2 you continue from that point on.
and as a side campaign you can play with a friend in coop mode. But because there were no 2 humans, valve thought it to be fitting to make you play as robots instead =D
coop this campaign is after main one, for GlaDoSS mentions she will continue with testing
0:21 "you,your stuff,outside,parking lot,car,goodbye" lol
