Good Sir, first, I'd like to commend you for preserving what appears to be the elusive Backwoods Bertone Edition of the 242! The two tone "paint job" was a key indicator in identifying this rare variant. Secondly, your resolute willingness to press on regardless and take this Regal Beauty onto the open road in order to determine (in no particular order) if there is enough fuel in the tank, that none of the wires will separate during Max Q from the aerodynamic forces, the engine will hold idle if you have to stop and, lastly, that the brakes will function so you can stop. If you have to. A true tribute to why we were given opposable thumbs instead of dolphins, who, despite being smarter than us have yet to build anything remotely resembling a 242 Turbo. Dean, before i acquired my current silver 84 242 Turbo in 2011 from the original owner, i had a black 81 turbo, 1st year of the turbo, and the paint on it faded in spots, mainly on the roof, probably mainly from over compounding and waxing in the sun - rookie mistakes. Both are/were m46 manuals and while the 84 is more refined, the 81 was purchased new from Savanah Intl Motors ( i was stationed at Ft Stewart from 78 to 81) and i really liked the silver cloth seats and door cards. I never replaced the wiring harnesses on the 81, it really needed it. I sold it in 2001 with around 195,000 on it and wished i had kept it. The 84 is nice, like the smaller bumpers, 5 bar oil pressure gauge, and this one came with an oil temp gauge, which is very helpful here in Texas. Keep up the great work, am looking forward to your Turbo updates. Hopefully, you can snag an intercooler for it down the road and maybe fog lights and cruise control if you can find one on Turbobricks or elsewhere. Thanks for the Sunday entertainment!

The 81 had dealer installed Bosch fog lights and I picked up a used pair of Volvo Bosch fogs for the 84 from a good supplier on Turbobricks and had them installed by a local Volvo expert here in the Houston area. Don't know if the vendor on Turbobricks still has them, believe it was Philski o'flood. Will shoot you a pic of the silver 84 242 when I get a chance.

kjet cars love techron injector cleaner
Im going to give that a shot for sure!
@@DeanofMachines be advised it will foul the oil
A fuel quality issue? No, you have an issue with your dirt being contaminated with fuel. LOL
I thought the dirt would help clean the fuel pump internals!!
LOL. Good luck with that.@@DeanofMachines
부동엑체크하셨나요. 엔진오일 미션오일도 교체가 필요해 보입니다.
All of it needs to be replaced!!
What does these go for in the US? Currently, there's three for sale here in Norway on the biggest auction site for cars, and the price range is $19k and upwards.
It depends on condition. This one was very rough but it can still cost a few thousand dollars.
Pour a couple of jars of Techroline in the tank! Can't hurt.
I like the way you think Erik!
My gas tank was full of rust, it ran just like yours.
It seems like I need to drop the tank!
Goodbye clutch 😇
More like Hellloooooo clutch! Its an automatic!
If you haven't located it yet, the catalytic converter on the 240 Turbos sits in the down pipe next to the bell housing and not under the front seat like the NA 240s. I'm sure the in-tank pump and filter sock will also be looking quite crusty as well.
I did see it next to the 02 sensor. I am seriously considering a new tank just for peace of mind.
i relocated mine under the car where it belongs, no comments or disqual from 'test only' shop
The best Volvo ever.
100% yes!!! I live this little car.
Got yourself a new sub.
Thank you very much! Theres plenty around here to see!
@@DeanofMachines Nice to see a guy keep these old boats on the road.
Have you seen involvo’d channel? English guy living in Germany who shares your passion/lunacy for Swedens finest.
Sheesh that's hot.
Good looking ride isn’t it!?
Countdown to having to drop the fuel tank and finding it rustier than a sacrificial anode on the Brooklyn bay bridge.
We already have a need new one ready to party
@@DeanofMachines I friggin *knew* it. Hahahah sweet vindication.
This Volvo 242 turbos will go for lots of money in Sweden...
I imagine so! They are a great little car.
Only in other countries can this happen. In Sweden even a pile of rust would sell for $100
I believe that! Here in the US some cars are very rusted.
patina!
Fantastic patina. I really want a super nice car but this one looks cool!!
LOVE THE CAR :) I WANT 1 :)
I’ve wanted one a LONG time!!!
Very nice car..just a shame it's fallen into your hands..you're just messing with it with no knowledge
Have to learn somewhere! There’s not exactly a K-jet school…
Nice car, but I would change the headlights to the original European ones.
Thats an idea! Do you have any to donate?
@@DeanofMachines I would like to but I don't have any right now.
The Women Looks Georgios 😮😍😮😍😮
@@DavidGreiner-b1m yes she definitely does!
Get rid of the super ugly us headlights and replace them with some european units its will surprise anyone on here how good they look
I’ll probably keep the turbo car original and swap out the quads on one of our other early 240s
LOL "ABANDONED" ...sure
Left to rot for years!!
This car is just crying for a V-8. Particularly a 383 stroker.
I think it's time for you to leave.
@@DeanofMachines Oh Wow!
@@peterarsenault2671 I apologize if I hurt your feelings. I might of been a little out of line there.
All good, all good! I admit that I just came across your channel without watching a video. I should have as l did assume it's a "purest" audience and good on you for that. I had a 81 240 wagon 4 speed with the electric OD.
Car had 375000 plus kms when l bought it and payed a whopping $375 Canadian for it.
Unbelievably reliable wagon that ran like new and wouldn't quit. l wish l still had it.
When l saw your 2 door in the video, l had a vision of a " sleeper", but yes you're right. Fix it and preserve it.
@@peterarsenault2671 its all good. Humor doesn’t come across well if you don’t know the tone. Welcome to the channel!

We are going to need some clarification.
