Mr. B. Here ! 👀😎👍. Will check it out !
Maybe he wants challenging situations and killer content lol I should be a effin comedian
@@noduh736hhhm😅hhhmmmmm
Was thinking the same thing.
Boooo lol camper special vid looks neat, was gonna watch but members only. Kinda lame. I wont be doing members only on my channel for that reason. Drives away viewers in the long run
Not my position to say, but don't take critical comments personally. They do it to get likes and feel superior. Talking trash will always be part of youtube.
Total agree this guy will be one of the better mechanics they’ll ever see, that’s coming from a 61 yr old guy who’s fooled with stuff like this sence I was 17
I find that you do repairs the same way a lot of us do... if it ain't broke, don't fix it! You make good decisions on how you spend your money. I watch your videos for the entertainment AND to see how you fix things. I mean I've never worked on a 80s Dodge W100, but I find it interesting to watch you do the repairs. There are a whole hell of a lot of folks who wish they had your mechanical sense and abilities. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!
I cringed when I saw you vacuuming out the interior without a respirator. You can make yourself incredibly sick from rodent droppings
I agree, wear a SN-95 mask or a 3M mask with filters.
I was going to ask if he'd heard of hantavirus, but you beat me to it.
I love this channel because you actually fix all of the assorted things that are broken, most channels will just do a “will it run” video and call it a day and you never see the car again.
Yeah true . It’s because the details are hard no one wants to deal with it.
I agree. Love seeing you get it back in shape.
The ammeter was bypassed because this era of gauge is notorious for getting hot, melting and starting electrical fires under the dash. Bypassing the gauge is pretty common in these trucks.
from the starter going " errr, errr, errr, errr... " for at least 60 sec.s.
Enjoying the videos over here in the UK. But you really should use a mask when dealing with any kind of rodent turds fella!! 😷😷😷😷
Most of us do it cheap and save money where we can brother. You’re doing it the way most Americans with a family and just enough money for a hobby do it.
Word of caution. that ammeter SHOULD NOT BE HOOKED UP! they are notorious for burning down trucks thats why it was unhooked. on these trucks and other mopars of the same vintage , the entire electrical system with the exception of the starter draws its power thru the ammeter. could be 35+ amps flowing thru it under certain circimstances. Its not worth loosing the truck just to have an ammeter working. its a very good idea to unhook it and do the bypass so as to distribute the electrical load around this wiring and eliminate the possibility of an electrical fire. it could occur even if the truck isnt being driven if something were to be drawing power. I drive a 74 dodge powerwagon and i damn near lost my truck from the ammeter. i wasnt even in the truck it had been parked for several hours and i started smelling electrical. i looked around and seen my cab was smoking profusely and the cluster was on fire. i was able to get the battery unhooked just in time . had i not been home or near the truck it surely would have burned to the ground. theres lots of good schematics on the internet showing you how to bypass the ammeter.
I agree with you. My '79 I bought on cheap because it had a dash fire from that same spot. A friend of mine helped to rewire everything in the dash and than some later and the truck was back on the road. I had 3 wonderful years with it before rust took it away. I was the 2nd owner. The first owner new got the undercarriage cleaned after winters. When the front frame rails rusted and broke it, was time to put her down. I miss that beast.
In this episode, Travis and his dad get donuts!
And assorted truck repairs. And a hat tip to another yt channel.
And a repaired instrument cluster. And hoses, and latches.
What a great resto on a good old truck.
👍🏻👍🏻😂 thanks for the summary.
10:00 Youre a REAL WORLD You Tuber, no sponsorships from O'Reilly or Wildfire Lifts or anyone else (though Im sure you'd accept one!). All the keyboard warriors out here sure want to spend your money for you! Thing is, youre out there actually DOING this stuff, while theyre just watching and criticizing.
That is a cool old truck glad you got it home and a clutch is a cheap fix
If it ain't broke, don't fix it, said....... Dad!
You do you, Travis! Let them get their own channel!
nice job and who needs to spend money on parts if you don't have too don't fix what isn't broken
Great job Travis. As my daddy said take care of the pennies the dollars will take care of their self. Cool truck. Thanks from Sc
Yep my dad says the same thing !
@@theetravisb two old men. Both white headed.
Great video, but hold on a second...lol. I think I know what you were doing when you tested the gauges, but be careful about the terminology. The way that Mopar and most other clusters work is that the cluster is supplied with key on 12 volts, which is stepped down to about half by the IVR...Instrument Voltage Regulator. One side of each gauge not including the ammeter is supplied with IVR voltage. The other side of the temp, oil and fuel gauges is the ground side through the sending units. Each unit is a potentiometer that allows varying amounts of "ground" through, just like a fuel sending unit operates. There is NO power present at any of those sending units. You did in fact test the circuits for continuity, which is good work.
As another viewer mentioned, those ammeters are a fire hazard. Mopar foolishly routed ALL the electrical load through those undersized ammeters on all their vehicles into the 80's, so when the lights, wipers, fan motor etc are on, it goes through that ammeter. I've seen them get so hot they melted the lens and the needle fell off. As a mechanic, NEVER assume someone just didn't know what they were doing. I would go back in there and reconnect those wires pronto. There are fusible links in the harness but those are the most durable part of it unfortunately. Last thing, try to avoid saying "honestly" and "to be honest" so much because that gives people the impression you might not always BE honest. Keep up the good work.
I thought Chrysler changed the Ammeter wiring after 1973, Maybe they didn't on Trucks, They also didn't wire them that way on models with a lot of electrical accesories and ones for police use.
@@jdpinbaytown You are correct in that vehicles with high electrical loads and high capacity alternators like the Chrysler 100-amp units and the Leece-Nevilles used a shunt around the BULKHEAD connector, because that's the second most likely spot for a failure, but I have no knowledge if they bypassed the ammeter somehow. I've never seen one of those vehicles in person. I'd like to though to see what they did.
NEVER USE A OPEN FLAME NEAR A GAS TANK WITH FUEL IN IT!
I would never have the guts to attempt that 😬 He's not easily scared...
Yeah..... torching around the fuel tank doesn't look shady at all.😳
35:08 "All the gauges are doing what they're supposed to be doing." .... uh.. your speedo gauge doesn't have a needle sir. Second car in a row you fixed all the gauges but the speedometer. I'm so confused....
WEAR A MASK AROUND MICE/RAT TURDS DUDE!
🙈..blowtorches next too fuel tanks..yikes😂😂😂
I just have so much joy with how you can bring these older vehicles back to life, and some of them appliances. I love your kitchen, and could only dream of having a set of them wonderful Westinghouse laundry care machines. Makes me drool thinking about them.
I appreciate you carrying us through the whole "build" of the power wagon.
I've watched from day one. Someone is gonna get a pretty good old truck. 👍🏻👍🏻
Most excellent job on the truck. I appreciate you showing the effort that goes into this type of project. Forget the haters. Love the gas pumps. 🙏🙌🙌👍🙏
Mr. B. Here ! 👀😎👍. For years I toll people that good vehicles were junked , with a little hard work they would have 2nd or 3rd life, nice job . Happy motoring if you keep it . 👍👍👍👍
Hi Travis, Assuming the camper stopped running in 1998 from something non-catastrophic, I'm thinking it's a keeper. At least for one camping season. It's clean, powered by a 440 and has AC!! I'll be looking forward to watching you dive into that hood. Also, your Dad's gas pumps look great! I'm sure they will sell quickly! Best from CT
Don't you love it when other people want to spend your money? Tell them if they want you to buy new they can give you the money to do so
Nice rig. I like that you pay attention to the little details that aren’t really noticeable until they don’t work like the alt meter and other gauges I think that’s what will sell it. At $4800 you shouldn’t have any trouble selling it. $1800 on your dad’s gas pumps is a good deal also, all lit and ready to show.👍🏻
Thanks for the video! Nice Job with the truck, and your dads gas pumps looks awesome! 👍
Double thumbs up for the NNKH-colab. You're both great guys!
Love your content !!! Ignore the “cheap” talk…. I like frugal! That’s right down MY alley! Your Dad is pretty cool…..he carries a Sam Elliott about him 🤠👍
Ah, I don't want to be that guy, but. Are you aware of Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome you can catch from rat s#/t? Since I like you guys, I needed to let you know. Mask up for safety. Sure, wish we had rigs that rust free here.
It's your cars and trucks and your money so can do whatever you want if it works it works
You are sure a hard worker. Plus you have a great dad.
Thank you and yeah he’s great
I have a 1985 Dodge D150 that I am working on. This gives me some inspiration to finish it up!
I love how thorough you are and that you actually take the time to do things right. Especially with so many half ass hacks on you tube.👍🇺🇸
Appreciate that
i like this truck! my 1st truck was a ('74/'75/'76?) Dodge 'Club Cab' long bed, the fancy model with two-tone paint in Tan & Gold, beat up and a bit rusty with a missing tailgate. i had a neighbor that recently bought out a local junk yard so i went by to see if he had a tailgate. he had 'inherited' an old guy that had been working there for many years that said, 'we got one but you get to dig it out!' so i did .... it was inside an old van that was packed literally to the roof with tailgates, bumpers, tail lights, hubcaps, etc. etc. 'my' tailgate was actually on the floor! about 2 1/2 hours later i had my piece and had everything packed back in there ... in 90+ degree humid South Carolina afternoon full sunshine. the tailgate was in near-perfect shape, (yay!) but it was green! (yuck!)
As someone who also lives in Tucson, and suffers the same booming inflation that is going on here, money = security, thus is why we don't spend more than we need to.
Also AutoZone, Oreilles are ripoffs.
an induction heater while not cheap would be a better option than flame by a gas tank. that was puckerish
Man Travis, you have to be more careful around gasoline. Lighting that paper over the bucket of gas could have been disastrous. Always remember it's the fumes that will light.
Rick Simon would be proud - All you need now is a light bar in the bed and a big metal front bumper!
im not a safety nut normally but i would use a mask when handling rat turds..a friends dad cleaned out a rat infested house he got sick from breathing the dust in,he went from burly stone hard outdoorsman to waddling 90 year old wreck the body was just destroyed he spent serious time in a hospital...that scared the shit out of me....he walks with a cane now...i hope you keep the camper truck you wont find another in that condition...you could do road trips in it and save on hotel cost
The reason the ammeter was disconnected is that they are a MAJOR fire hazard on these tin grilles. I'd take the wires off asap.....Nice truck 👍🏼
I noticed they do get pretty hot
That's a good price on that truck $4,800 if I had the money I would buy it in a minute
Yes same here😊😊😊
Cherish those runs into town to the window shop and getting donuts with your dad brotha…. those are the best times. 👌
Great video…and those pumps are awesome!!
I'm not a dodge man but that truck looks awesome
Should wear a respirator when dealing with the rat & mice shit!!I really like the pumps they are super cool!
I’m a mopar guy. I love how you’ve diligently brought another one back to life. These trucks are beautiful. Love to see them running. Keep up the good job.
Thanks I’m glad you like the details
doing a great job travis. i love this channel,i learn so much watching what you do mate
Thank you appreciate that.
If I was in the market for a truck, I would totally buy the Dodge!
Hey, don't let the peanut gallery get you down. You are the one producing a story. You found that awesome W200 and YOU decide how to handle it. I have enjoyed your approach. Keep up the good work.
Your right nnkh is a great channel watch it a lot, so is this one I've seen all your vids
" I don't what you could have hit that would bend the pick up tube like that" A car dolly perhaps? Just kiddin'. It's not unusual on a 4x4, especially since this one has no bash plate under the tank. My '86 Ramcharger has a bash plate, sender still got bent. It now has EFI with an in tank pump, I reworked the Aeromotive pump assembly to be spring loaded so hopefully the pump won't get knocked off.
All of us don't have money to burn
Everytime i get a notification for a new vid from you brother i get excited. Awesome!
To bad we can’t do this in NY unless it’s a barn find. 90% of anything out side needs more bodywork that mechanical.
Burn the old gas a little bit at a time in the 12 valve. I burn all my old stale gas a little bit at a time thru the 12 valve mixed with old oil
Excellent video that old dodge would be an excellent hunting vehicle. I west of where you got that truck from.
My guess is the truck was driven over some rocks that deformed the plastic gas tank, but while the plastic shell was pressed in it bent the sending unit components.
Ah the days when you could pull an instrument cluster without pulling the front clip off the truck…….. those were the days
Not last year for power wagon. I have an 06 PW and would buy that one in a new york minute if i could swing the cash.
Love yer vids
19:51 Ford power steering pumps whine when the wrong fluid is put in them. They were designed to use transmission fluid, not power steering fluid. Car owners and Jiffy Lube employees who don't know that put power steering fluid in the pumps when they are low which makes them whine.
Nice truck and your great work on it makes it better. I don't pay attention to people that constantly criticize or question others. Maybe they are insecure or have a control complex.... I love Dads pumps, when I was a kid some of the old timers gas stations still used them. I still remember 27 cents a gallon.
Dad is really cool I see where you get it from lol good folks God bless you and yours
Thank you God bless
"the art of discernment" love your attitude. if more people were like you, there would be enough for everybody 👍
This has been great to watch! I’ve got a ‘79 W150 power wagon I’ve been going through and outside my gauges I’ve kept it original. I hope to get the stock gauges replaced and the interior back to stock next year. Thanks for the multiple enjoyable videos
Really enjoy your videos but please be careful using torches around gas tanks a good friend of mine lost a family
member doing the same thing you did heating up gas tank strap mounts for removal and there was a vapor leak
of some sort that found the torch and exploded killing him so please be careful I was cringing the whole time watching.
I do really enjoy your channel, I love doing this stuff myself and spend evenings watching yours and similar videos.
Dave
Sorry to hear that I’ll be more careful
Good point! Just what I was thinking!
I am the same way I try to repair something if it’s repairable on my 64 Chevy I just replaced the original gm water pump back when stuff was built to last
Travis, couldn’t agree with you more on using old parts when you can to save money. You’re a young man with a wise soul. Viewers like us who are budget minded wrenchers appreciate the advice. Keep it coming…
So true
Try using a nut driver or socket instead of a screwdriver on hose clamps. It’s life changing!! I’ve injured my hand when the screwdriver slips off…..😮
Hi Travis, thank you for sharing another great video. Love the content.
God Bless 🙏
Hey, glad to see you follow up on these rigs and not leave them rot in yet another place
I've been wondering, since you've put a new exhaust in the '60 Impala, do you have any plans on welding new rear floorpans in? Not bought new ones (if they're even available), but rather just fabricated ones, from sheet metal. Cheers
Keep playing with fire and gasoline.
Careful around all that rodent crap. Breathing that in isn't good and rodent droppings cause Hantivirus. Hopefully you and NNKH can get together for a "Will it Start" video.
Speaking as a Non American, I don't understand the fascination of the pick up truck.....can someone explain it please? 🇬🇧🇺🇸
You’ll get many different perspectives and opinions from the people of UA-cam but I see trucks like this as an extremely useful tool in getting work done, whether it be in the city or in the wilderness
@@steeliewheelies I get that, but a van could hold more, and be secure if it's a work vehicle
I'm from Canada we have lots of trucks but I see them as only a business requirement. I have an old Chev mini van that can take a 4x8' sheet of plywood on the floor - actually about 50 of them...try and do that with a modern pick up. I agree a van is more useful unless you want to tow a large load or carry half a ton.
And the chicks dig them
Pick ups are more versatile especially if you get into the 3/4 and 1 ton range add 4x4, 4 doors and a flat bed or a service box with a pipe or lumber rack. You can't tow a goose neck trailers, a 5th wheel campers or haul a heavy or bulky load like sand gravel, a pallet of bricks or water with a van. The light service industry in the US is usually using vans. Heavy duty mobile mechanics and utility companies use 1 ton or larger pickups with huge service boxes that may carry a crane, welder and an air compressor to start with.
Another awesome video guys, love that truck! also the gas pumps, nice job Dad 🙂looking forward to the Dodge camper, keep up the good work.
That camper Will It Run ought to be interesting
Only thing I would do to it if I you got to get one of them Hood ornaments the ram
Hey Travis, you do know you’re going to have to sleep in that camper right? Just getting that truck running won’t be enough of a challenge.
Nice job Travis, as you have learned a lot over the last 2 years that I have been watching you and Dad!
I would've opted to power wash that tank anyhow. You've got an air compressor somewhere, no? Blow the air thru until there's no H2O left. (about ten minutes)
Travis the truck was parked 22years. Or you had it that long before fixing it. Great work on the 4X4 And your dad’s fuel pumps are too cool. Richard great work. Thank you men for your dedication!
💯👊
Yes I realized that and changed the title. And thank you
Great vid cool truck!!!!! 🤜🤛
Good.job. Nice truck Dodge 👍👍👏👏👏
Glad to see the old Power Wagon back on the road. Many of these👍 for both a job well done and to your dad for getting the cool vintage gas pumps.
take off the bug deflector plz
I've got a 72 w100 with the 4speed and the 318 I work on on the weekends I've had her for almost 4 years fun old trucks to drive
It’s awesome you met NNKH!
Yeah cool dude!
I agree,if you don't do a full on restoration there is no need to replace parts that work.
Another great video Travis, how's that the Chevy impala going, takes me back to my early days growing up in the sixties when those impala V8s were around, would like to see you take the rust out, and hope you will keep that car,
I love how you go through and fix all issues on these rigs to get them as best as possible I really appreciate that good work sir!
Thank you glad you enjoy
24:40 you need get new needle for your speedometer looks cool truck!
Did you blow out the fuel line to get rid of the old gas?
I wonder if someone tried jacking up the truck and didn’t realize they were on the tank until it was too late
Edit: ah you know what I just got to the part in the Will it Run on this one where you explain the previous owner told you they actually hit something. Helps if I gather all the facts before I start pondering aloud lol
I had a piece of shit 1997 VW Jetta that I was jacking up and wasn't looking and I jacked up one half of the car a good 6 in off the ground with the jack on the floorboard. 😂
Would love to see the 4x4 in action!
Truck turned out nice Travis. Your asking price is definitely reasonable. I’d like to have that camper Dodge you’re working on next! 👍🏻
This truck reminds me of my '79, 3/4 ton. 2 wheel, 4 speed granny low. 318 under the hood. That thing was a beast. Really miss that girl.
edit to add. PPE. You should be using that. Stay healthy now and that will help you stay healthy when you are older. Your kids will thank you for it.
Someone got a steal at $4,800 for that solid truck. Good segues to selling Chris's mustang and your dad's gas pumps.
