@@FoodwithChetna thank you so much Chetna I will definitely enjoy it 😁
Lady,a happy New year. These little "boopers " and your honesty are very refreshing😅
🙏🏽
Made this recipe today. Easy and delicious. I presoaked Chana Dal for couple of hours. Cooking the dal took me approx. 60 minutes in a normal pan. Indeed very creamy. I had some tamarind chutney left that went well with the dish, together with the delicous onion bread from the book “ Cardamom Trail”. Thanks Chetna!!
If you want a faster cooking time, add a pinch of baking soda to the dal when soaking it + a pinch when you cook .shortens cook time .
Thanks for the tip. Will definitely try it the next time@@saywhatyouwant888
I would not add baking soda to the lentils as no one does that in India as it is not needed at all. Why add the soda for no reason. But happy for you to make your own decision. 👍🏼
not ideal though!
My pleasure 😊
Well cooked 🫕. Happy New Year. ,2024.🎉❤
Happy new year
4:30 OMG THE CHILI EMOJIS 🤣🤣🤣
♥️♥️♥️
You can always freeze a few chilis to have on hand in emergencies. They last a few months in the freezer. Obvi put the date on the bag.
thanks for the tip
Which ghee are you using
I made this tonight and it is delicious. For me, I used an instant pot, and it took 25 minutes at high pressure. Maybe the dal I purchased was really old?
I have never used instant pot
It is a pressure cooker, just on counter and not on the stove top.@@FoodwithChetna
Will the Courgette not get overcooked and mushy in the pressure cooker?
In this recipe the courgette needs to be over cooked to achieve the end result, its not a salad or a sabzi and the texture of it needs to be right for the dal
Coriander/Cilantro can also be washed and froze for emergencies. Add the date on the bag. It will last a few months. Save some trips to the grocery store.
👍🏼
Can you tell me for how many whistles did you cook the chana Chetna??

Tnx very much Chetna, that makes it easier. And excuses me, just another question you said 10/ 12 min cooking time in a pressure cooker , but do you mean 10/ 12 min cooking time after the frist whisthle? Or do you mean somerhing else with this?
I love your music in these last video's, very lovely! It hits the feeling of your cooking and it's inspiering me.
Thank you in advance, this weekend im cooking this channa dahl, dish of you! Can't wait!
Bye Martine
Still asking what is Chana? I’ve been a long time subscriber. I normally make dhal with split red lentils
I appreciate your question and I am trying to explain it to you. The red lentils packet says 'red lentils' on the packet. If you check the other lentil packets you will find one that says 'chana dal'. Its a variety of lentils that is called chana dal. You can even search on some online shops.
Chana is a type of chickpea. It is smaller than the yellow chickpea with a brown skin. It is sometimes called Bengal Gram. Once the skin is removed and split it is a yellow thickish dal.
I think it sometimes gets called yellow split peas.
@@andrewmcgleish61 yellow split peas are different than chana. Visually they are VERY similar but are from different plants. Chana are a type of chickpea (brown skinned), yellow peas are actually from dried yellow peas. Similar look as dal, but different taste. I also had confusion regarding these two different but look-alike dal. Do a Google search for whole bengal gram or kala chana to see what the seed actually looks like.
@@peterdecesaro5021 Cheers
You saved my courgette from dying in the fridge 😂
I started to view you,,, and def enjoy!,,, yet for newcomers,,, (?) u use terms like Chana dal(?),,, I have NO IDEA OF WHAT THAT EVEN IS,😊,,, if you could explain what the ingredient IS,,, it would be so very helpful,,, had I been able to even See it,, I perhaps could guess,, lol lol, sometimes ,,, although you Do mostly speak clearly,,, when u talk quickly I can’t understand you,,,, I adore Indian cuisine ect,,, I only wish I had more understanding of all these foreign ingredients,,,,
The ingredient IS CHANA DAL, thats what its called, thats what is written on the packet in which it is sold. I really dont know how to explain it 😂 its like calling onions ONIONS......
Is it split yellow peas maybe?
I had to google it. Chana Dal is the Hindi term for both bengal gram lentils (or black chickpea lentils
