You’re the sexiest data analyst I’ve ever seen… now I want to become a data analyst
@Goofy Music lbbbv
Can you do a soft/base skills video possibly? As far as like what math's should you work on or be good at, it's hard for me to request the right content as an absolute beginner, however possibly practice ideas for Excel or project ideas for all required programs?
“Don’t quit” is definitely one of the biggest pieces of advice for people wanting to break into the field. Took me a year and a half of that horrible trial and error learning, quitting, starting again, and networking to finally land my DA role, and I don’t regret a second of that journey.
That's awesome man, congrats!
@@Stefanovic92 I want to ask a question. In my university I have only big data analysis, but I want to be scientist. Will I get some welcome information to be more closer to my scientist?
Congratulations! I agree, someone also told me the exact same thing and I don't regret it either.
Did you have a degree or are you completely self taught?
@@KyleWilliamsMusic1 I'm self-taught. From my experience, I would start with Microsoft Excel. Almost every company uses this to do their data analysis. Many people claim they know how to use it, but I beg to differ. There is so much to learn with MS Excel.
Another important aspect is your analytical and communication skills. If you master these two skills, you will thrive in any workplace and potentially increase your earnings.
If your starting out, don't be afraid to make mistakes, we ALL make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from those mistakes. Don't be frustrated at it though, try to chuckle at it and think back as to why something hasn't worked (problem solving).
Just work hard and never give up! Life works out in the end if you stay patient and persistent!
All the best Internet friend!
🙂
The difference between a senior and junior data analyst: how well you’re able to formulate your question on stack overflow. Perhaps I should make a video about this.
Hahahaahha so true

I really wanna learn data analysis
Whats the situation today ....
coz its been 9months...
Could you please teach me
Much respect Stefanovic, this is a brilliant vid. You literally hit all the points from start to entry to exit...WOW! Much appreciated.
Started my first data analyst job today 💪
Congrats mate!👊
How long does you take you to learn and master? Do you have previous experience before?
Thanks in advance
I started an excel-heavy job in finance a year ago, and have been teaching myself SQL. I dont have a relevant degree. This video is a really good guide so I'd suggest sticking to it, I will be
I still haven't mastered anything except excel, also learning and using R at the moment
@@cofi9659 what was your degree in?
My dude, humbled by the shoutout! 🙏🏼
I disagree though... 10:29 your videos are the ones that are on a whole other level! 🙌🏼
Haha thanks bro ..but you're the real MVP when it comes to data analysis!
Excellent video, I've seen tons of this "starting" videos and you actually gave practical and specific tips to start. Thank you!
You nailed it with the don't quit tip brother. Took me more than 6 months of learning and another 6 month of job searching to land my first business analyst gig. Now, the recruiters reach out to me.
That’s awesome man!
Hi, Could you please tell me how many hours a day on average you spent to learn, that it took 6 months? I know that it is not an appropriate question, and it depends on many factors, but just curious to know.
@@mindpower3922If I average it out, I'd say about 4 hours. Once I found a structured, supportive, and rigorous (beginner to advanced) training course, my training was more meaningful. I bought my own license for pbi, used real data sets, and set goals on what I could extract/ visualize. If I'd go back, I'd first get really good with excel. You'd be surprised how many companies value that. But I'm a ba, not a da. I do some etl, but very limited dev stuff. I'm more the stats and numbers guy that work with managers and stakeholders.
@@joshk7051 Many thanks for the answer. Would you mind telling me the name of the training course you had?
Do they ask for python also in data analysis job is it necessary to learn python?
Like many, I stumbled on this video half enthused half tired from researching data analysis along side current tools, jobs, 50 open tabs, cold coffee... Thank you. I really enjoyed how you summarised this and gave an overview on your experience. It helps to be given a few good choices to work with instead of all the choices and no guidance.
I don't think I have ever since a channel that tells its audience not to subscribe to the channel. But this shows that you don't do things because of others. Thank you so much for this, you just got a subscriber from an aspiring data analyst
Thanks man just stumbled on your video and it just solved the problem i was banging my head for months.
You don't even know the value you have provided.
Thank you
Thank goodness you're the first video i clicked when i searched for a data analysis video. Very straight forward on what to learn first. Very helpful for a learner like me .
Brilliant advice to become a data analyst. No-one give me such a clear vision on how to learn new tools. Thanks.
Hi Stefan, thanks for making this video. I was quite curious about data analysis, but I had no idea where to start. You have now solved my biggest problem with great ease. Thankyou, once again! ❤
You are the best! Can't even tell you how useful and precise this video was
You Opened my eyes, Man!!!!!!!!! Thanks for your Advice, Especially that Don't Quit Line.
Your videos show so much depth, not just in this subject. But, for life in general. What a gem to stumble upon your channel on UA-cam. Fantastic work. 💪😎
Thanks for the kind words bro👊
Been a data analyst for 12 years. He is right on with what skills to gain if this is the field you want to get into.
Hey Mike.
I just wanna ask you if it is ok be a data analyst? In my country Pakistan, the growth of this field is not so good and i'm worried if i'll get the job or not.
Hook a brother up
@@Music-xr6ir I'm curious about the same. However you don't have to have the necessary job in Pakistan because it will pay very less. You gotta apply to overseas american, european companies like google, IBM etc.
Awesome video! I stumbled onto bioinformatics as a field because I needed to learn how to analyze RNA-sequencing data during graduate school. I fell in love with the discipline and I'm going to look for a data science job after I graduate!
As a 40 yrs old trying to career shift from being a garage manager, thank you SO much for the detailed information! Everyone wants to fill videos with useless knowledge and boasting instead of actually being helpful with straight up information 🎉
Thanks for making this really easy to follow. This has really given me the confidence to keep it pushing.
You are an incredible content creator. Thanks for this helpful and still entertaining video!
Starting my journey as Data Analist. I will do my best. Thank you for the video! it helped me a lot!
Nice job with the tips. I'm switching careers from sales to business analyst, so this helps a lot. The personal project tip on building something with data is golden. 👍
This is an amazing video with all the details required to a newbie in the Data Analyst Field. Thanks for this. I learned a lot from your error.
Amazing explanation of the required steps needed to achieve a Data Analyst position, but also a great transition when you mentioned that you're on a new, different path now!
How well have you progressed?
The job search has been long, painful, and dehuminizing since being laid off. Working on my excel, R, SQL skills while looking to pickup Python and it still feels like not enough while having a bachelors. Thanks for discussing this topic
There aren't nearly enough jobs in the market to keep all the people in it gainfully employed; plus all those millions graduating each year. Economy is finished.
Dankjewel voor de duidelijke uitleg! Ik ben momenteel aan het onderzoeken hoe ik datajournalist kan worden, dus dit komt zeker goed van toepassing 😊
I understand your personal goal and it's awesome. Even if you made few videos about data analysis they're really thorough.
I follow your channel for your wisdom in every aspect (life, work and ect.).
I can't wait for your next video.
Cheers.
What an amazing video. I started my career as Data Analytics with Excel, today I consider myself advanced in Power Bi. As in the video I highly recommend learning SQL and solving problems. Solving customer problems is the big deal to succeed in Data Analytics.
I love your sense of humor and your direct advice.
Straight to the point..i didn't notice the mistakes..love it!
Dude....this guy's humility and humor 💯💯💯!!
Thanks for sharing this video, this is just what I needed. I am currently in a process to become in a Data Analyst. Greetings from Mexico.
Another great video, Stefan. Thank you very much. So many and so clear messages!!!
Thanks for packaging your experience and learnings so well here! Definitely helped. Also, you're really funny haha!
Thank you very much for sharing! I have learned a great deal from you. I love your sense of humour! You are seriously good! 😘
Very uplifting. I've got over thinking that I need to study a lot and was feeling rather apprehensive, but now I've cleared out that I know a lot and just need to go with more practical task!
I'm an absolute first timer and this is soooo cohesive and comprehension. Really awesome explanation - love it! Thanks
The best video i have watched on youtube in a very long while. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I have been stuck on a project and saw your video...thank you for making it, now I feel like I need to keep at it. I'm just leaning data analytics after being a bartender for 15 years. I feel confident enough to work on my resume and start putting myself out there!
Very inspiring. Yes, just keep at it.

Just stumbled on this channel. I'm totally new to data analysis, but im currently considering a career in it...although I studied something completely unrelated. I was really confused on what steps to take first. Thanks for this eye opening video
probably the best video I have ever watched on how to become a data analyst

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. Nowhere else I've seen someone "telling it like it is" in such a concise way. THANK YOU!
Subscribed to Luke's Channel following your recommendation as I also see data analysis as a stepping stone.
Glad it was helpful!
Stepping stone for what?
@@realmheart3751 you’d know if you watch the video.
I am actually working with python but when he said "if i could go back into time" Here my heartbeat paused for a moment...&.then continued after he said "i would choose python"😂😂

I continued to watch the video till the end for one reason: The quality of the editing and the genuineness of the humour is above the roof.
Justo estoy aprendiendo diversas herramientas y con este vídeo veo que voy por buen camino, actualmente me encuentro perfeccionando SQL para luego avanzar con PowerBi y Tableau, muchas gracias por la información
Hi Stefan, thanks for making this video. I got to confess that I was totally inspired by it and interested in knowing more about your journey. Honestly, I am one of those who are spending astronomical amount of time and money on watching data analysis tutorials online. Glad that I found you when I felt a bit lost in what the next stage of my life is. Can't wait to watch more of you and your thought-provoking life. :)
Thank you so much, this is the first video I’ve watched that has been helpful 😭💗
Why did I just find this? This video is the BEST so far! Not kidding I was so confused about where to start. Awesome job explaining everything so well to a beginner like me.
Amazing content Stefan. I’m currently a student at a university in Florida, majoring in business analytics and information systems (which yeah basically trained you to become a data analyst). I’m a senior now but i feel like i learned shit in the last 3 years (despite getting all A and paying tons of money). I learned from your videos way more than in the college classroom.
Lol literally same but I guess a master's degree would look good on the cv
Can you suggest me a cheap laptop for data analytics and software development
Graduated last year 3.8 gpa in IS and have nothing in my brain. Haven't had the guts to apply to any jobs because I know I don't have the knowledge or skills. Now I'm on YT learning what I should've in college.
@@petrona3049 i'm a second yr IS student too and i don't even learn a thing 😂

Cinematography, editing, and storytelling/content on point man. Not bad🙌🏻
Super helpful! Thanks for all the links to learn.
Your videos are a big inspiration! just started out my own youtube (from my experience as a data analyst) All the best!
One day, I'll land a data analyst role. Needed this video for direction. Thanks so much.
Hey man. I just watched your video. Its been so helpful. Plus the way you create humor as well to is very nice. God bless you. I'm going to start from the excel practice!
I just enrolled in a masters programme in a UK university and been thinking same. I actually want to use data analytics as a stepping stone as well
Love the video, thanks I currently start to master Excel and begin to start SQL. And this video help me a lot to which path to step.
This is so helpful. Thank you buddy!
Your honestly is admirable. And your sense of humour too XD
I was already thinking of becoming a Data Analyst before discovering your channel! I'm going to my last year as an Economics student at university and will be studying data analyses as you recommended meanwhile! And yes, it will be a stepping stone, to what? I don't know yet. Once again great content, keep it up!
Haha same, I just finished my Bsc in Economics and Statistics.. Starting Msc in Econ.. But planning to opt for this
Stepping stone to a Data Scientist ?
Great video! And it appears I'm on the right track in terms of stuff to learn.
I really like Enterprise DNA for learning Power BI - And if I remember correctly, their "stack" of software is almost the same as yours, except that they have a 5th system: PowerPoint - For effective communication of the analysis that you've done. And given how well PowerPoint and Power BI are now starting to integrate, I'm inclined to agree.
But anyway, love what you've said and you have a new subscriber :)
That was clear and concise, thank you so much !
Man, thanks so much for that...you're the best! I was really searching this type of advice from someone who knows what is saying. Definitely a new good follower here!👊👊👊
Thanks, Stefan. Exactly what I needed to hear. I'm going to take time off from my 9-5 as a technician in a battery research lab to travel with my computer and learn these skills. Onward and upward. Cheers
The best Video EVER found about DATA ANALYSIS. ! Undoubtedly. Loads of Love for ya
Glad you liked it!
What a great video. Started with Excel and brought the idea of PowerBi to my first company. Python is the next step
Your channel is exactly what I need. Thank you!
I've been planning to switch my career to become a data analyst, but I didn't really know where to start, and then this video appeared on my recommendation, it's such a blessing! Thank you so much for the information and knowledge you share!
I just started my career as a QA analyst and currently trying to figure out how to become a Data Analyst for my career growth.
You just showed me the path vividly.
Thank you for your help. 😊
Great video now I know what to do next, just started watching and am really loving it.
Honestly the most useful video I've watched so far on switching to data analysis
This was the most useful video I've watched in a long time. So well structured and honest.
really appreciate the honesty; lots of videos here romanticize the role and the journey without actually saying anything, and this helped focus my vision a lot

How deep should one go before moving on to another tool or language?
Thanks Stefanovic for such motivation. I am on career reviving stage after 12 years gap. Struggling so hard for last 2 years but couldn’t make it up. I am a mom of three kids but keenly passionate about my career. Hope i will be succeeded in establishing my freelancing career as a DA. Thanks once again.
Best of luck !!
Amazing !
... wishing you all the best! mom here too (of two, tho) checking out new career possibilities.
I am starting over again, too, after a long journey of caregiving for our parents. Good luck!!!
I am in a similar situation after helping care for my parents, albeit I regret not spending more time with them as they are both deceased 5 years and 9 years ago respectively.
Thank you so much for the inspiration. I'm currently in the Google Coursera certification class for Data Analyst, partially inspired by videos by Luke. Thank you again. I'm going to subscribe!.
I am watching you from Uzbekistan and you took the video perfectly thank you. I got good news for myself. Thanks.
Considering I am extremely broke, this was MASSIVELY helpful bc you recommended FREE ways to learn various things, and I desperately need that. I also need to know what skills will be most useful to hiring managers and recruiters AND how to effectively prove it in my CV, so that was also very appreciated. The very structured approach to this video was extremely helpful, thank you very much!
How did it go?
Hi , i hope it went well . Mind sharing?
How's it going
Just learn to bake pizzas and start selling them
hey did you have any prior experience? any degree before you started!? please let me know and good look on your journey!
I agree, but after Excel I started PowerPivot+Power Query and then the whole PowerBI, that helped me transform multiple excell files and other data sources. That was much easier for me to start learning SQL after them and with the only functions i needed. Now I'm developing my SQL and DAX. Excel, PBI and SQL are easy to learn comparing to the power they offer while using together.
Thank you so much for the information, I want to start in this career and your video it has been so helpful, showing us the path to follow
Thank you so much. This is the best advice and encouragement I have received
This was so wholesome and so funny.😄 I was getting frustrated at my progress(almost quit)as I am learn python for data science. This helps a lot. I'll continue with python then to sql and power bi.
going through the same thing and I'm blessed to have seen this video on UA-cam tonight
My beginning with Excel and Power BI was through some Create and Learn book series, and LinkedIn learning. material very fast to consume. Now I am doing some more advanced books like Guide to Dax and courses on linkedIn as well.
This is the most valuable video that i ever came across on UA-cam, thank you Stefanovic ❤
I subscribed ❤ thank you veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy much, you don't know how much i was looking for a video like this were i can learn from others mistakes and save time❤❤❤❤
I came here not pursuing a Data Analyst job or anything like that, I just wanted to be informed of this for another job, but what a wonderful video! Thank you so much for putting this together. I actually got more information that I needed.
Cheers.
great intro, I've dipped my toe into the subject and one thing I'll note is that Google sheets query function has a lot of SQL like syntax so for me at least that helped with the transition. also scripts inside of sheets is a pretty good Segway into coding languages like python from what I've experienced.
Todavía no he terminado de verlo y ya te voy a escribir el comentario. Increíble contenido!!! Buenísima edición, centrado en el tema, sin irte por las ramas.
Sigue así!! Saludos!
Gracias amigo!
dont quit.
thanks,
very helpful
Thank you. I felt in a rut and have fallen into the tutorial trap. This provides a way out. Thank you for this amazing video.
I needed this video. I've been on the journey since the start of 2022 on becoming a Data Analyst. I would say that I'm extremely well in Excel, and I would rate myself as an intermediate in SQL (I actually enjoy using SQL). I'm actually a bit nervous about using python since I've attempted to learn using it in the past and it was just a tough language to learn. I know that a lot of jobs don't require it, but I also know that it is a preferred skill to use, and that it'll help with the job search faster. Once I'm really comfortable with SQL, Python will be my next move. Hopefully I'm able to land a job soon! I already have a couple portfolio projects done thanks to Alex and Coursera. Just needed something to kick me back into gear.
Good to hear this from you, I would like to seek more guidance on data analysis from you if you don't mind .
Hey,hows it going with your studies?did you get job as da?
As an experienced BA, agree with you with a stack for the beginners but with slightly higher weight towards Tableau vs BI tools because of its popularity amongst businesses, at least in UK. Obviously it doesn't matter so much at the end because if one can get a handle on any of these tools (visualisation tools), learning and switching to the other is not so problematic as picking up new programming language. On a side note, loved how you pronounced languages "Java" & "JavaScript" at 04:07 with that eastern "J" 😅.
Haha I'm not the only one who noticed his special pronunciation.. I wondered why and you explained it. Thanks lol
@@jathebest2835hes dutch. J is pronounced like that in dutch.
You are totally right. When i started serious working (22 years old) as a project leader in de pharm I discovered Excel and Access was my greatest tool to manage and track everything. I became very handy on it and I've been always asked for excel help in my jobs. Today I work as DA using SQL and Power Bi (that i learned on my job) and I see Python in my future. I love the fact that Dashboards are a mix between tech and creativity. Being able to think abstract and connect different kind of data that it doesn't look related is key too. Ik vond je video geweldig!
Thank you so much ! Exactly what I needed! 🙏
Dudeeee, love your content!
