I thought Data analysis was all about Excel, so I mastered it, but didn't feel I could do as much as I thought. You opened my eyes, and my next goal is to learn sql, power bi and python. God bless you!
Yeah excel is a great start but its way more than this some roles even get real specific where you find yourself doing really only SQL. It varies company to company but having a hang of a few tools (even at a beginner level) will help you the most moving forward

You’re a phenomenal teacher. So clear and concise. I appreciate your calmness and patience in your presentation. Helps me understand. I’m not overwhelmed.
Thank you so very much. I really appreciate the way you narrowed it down and show your understanding of the process of getting job ready. I will confess: I am currently in tutorial hell. But starting now. Actually, I am to dedicate April to EXCEL, May to SQL/Python and then June to the visualization tools in this stage of my self-learning. My goal is to start the Google Certification in July and finish before December! Workable? Your resources will really come in handy and I feel confident. I will follow your channel. And I am certain we will see more of each other going forward. Wish myself luck!
Its good to get an understanding of where you are so you know how to move from it. I would give yourself more time with SQL/Python as they generally tend to be trickier to understand than the other tools. Wish you good luck on your journey and any questions feel free to drop me a line 👌🏾👌🏾
Great video, but you forgot the most important skill, Math, Algebra, Statistics, maybe some calculus too. I’ve been doing Data Analysis and Data Science in the Investment Banking field for a while now, I see a lot of people try and learn these tools you mentioned but can’t solve the simplest of problems, simply because they don’t have a mathematical foundation. It’s more important to know what to do than to know exactly how to do it. Now obviously I’m not saying the skills you mentioned aren’t important, they definitely are. However, if the foundation on which these skills are built on is week, it’s gonna crumble down real quick
Unless you are doing advanced things in python (tailored to the next level up being a data scientist less so a data analyst) you wont need most of what you mentioned. Understanding of basic maths and statistics is key as a data analyst thou for sure so I agree on this and appreciate your input. Take care 👌🏾
Hi there, newbie in computer science here! This video was extremely helpful and the extra relations to free websites to learn these skills were really helpful. Thank you!
I just found your channel, and subscribed immediately a few minutes into the video. Also based in the UK and doing a 12 wk Data Analytics boot camp course. Main units covered are python, Microsoft sql, Google sheets, excel and Power BI. Each unit is between 5-7 (2.5hrs) live zoom classes. Done python and sql so far, sometimes I feel like there is so much to learn, as I am doing a whole lot of self study and the classes only cover the basics. Sometimes, I do ask myself if I am biting off more than I can chew and if it will ever be possible to work in a data analytics role, as there just seems to be so much knowledge needed. My intention is to keep doing self study after the 12 week boot camp is over, until I feel confident enough in my skill set to start applying for jobs in data analysis. What would you say is a realistic time frame, for someone who is not from a computer science, Mathematics, IT background to build enough knowledge base needed to start applying for entry level roles? Thank you in advance for your reply, I hope it will be possible to get a reply.
Ayy happy to have another person from the UK that's looking into the world of data 👍🏾 Just keep up the work in your own time, like anything technical some elements can be overwhelming especially when there's quite a few tools to learn but overtime it just starts to click. Realistic time frame depends on how many other life commitments you have but to be conservative deffo achievable to learn and feel more comfortable in interviews while also having a decent portfolio to lean on when needed would be 5-6 months (which with the fact you got the bootcamp - if its actually good might be closer to 5 months for you) With that all being said good luck, you got this.
@@UnorthodoxChange Thank you ever so much, I really appreciate your reply, encouragement and realistic advise and especially your time. I will stick to try to aim for the time frame you advised of. I do like to become a data analyst and can you coach me on this !!! I have zero knowledge on this but am optimistic about it
You can 100% learn from knowing nothing at all to being able to complete projects. I have a link to coach I can provide under my channel page but I’ve also provided it here: topmate.io/unorthodoxchange
