How I Would Learn Data Analytics in 2024 (If I Had to Start Over)
• How I'd Learn Data Ana...
Im 33. Im taking a bootcamp. Im doing sql and python. I get feelings sometimes it might be too late but its my best shot. My best wishes to all who are working on it.
Easy; I'm 42, trying to change into Data Analysis, so it better not be too late for you.
Inspiring. 1am 37. I am plunging into it as well.
I'm also 37 and trying to get started. I'm about half way through the Google Data Analytics Certificate, and have explored a few other things online. I know it can feel discouraging sometimes when we're older, but we also come with experience in both life and work, maybe some domain knowledge of some kind, etc.. It's easy to feel ancient and left-behind when you see young people starting directly on the path you're interested in, but we all bring something to the table. If you want it, go get it. :)
@@Spathologist can you review the course for me? I'm thinking of enrolling in myself ,so your insights of the course might help.
I thought for a second "have I watched this video AND left a comment already?". Exactly my situation, but I find it very hard to work and study enough :(
I'm 36 massage therapist, never did well in math, statistics, etc... Not 100% sure what am I doing here but I need a change in careers😢. So blessed to have so much information nowadays. Wishing everyone the best of luck. We got this❤
I enrolled in the Google Data Analytics program and I'm finding it to be very fascinating. So much data is being created daily and there's no limit with what you can do in this field.
Hi. Please can I wish to connect with you. I have more information to enquire of you concerning data analytics... Thanks.
How did you apply, I'm trying to apply for it , but find it difficult to.
@Jon W. So did I! I'm going through the same certification as well right now!
Hey, Jon. I'm new to Data analytics.
Please I need someone to guide me through.
Can you be of help.
@@eristonmansambu8225Hi.
I'm new to Data Analytics.
Please can you be of help to put me through.
I almost dropped a tear, your the best bro. Ever since may I decided to become a data analyst. I'm 40 years old and never got a chance to go to college just working alot of blue collar jobs until I got injured a year ago. I decided to try to go to school and it just wasn't working out. Then I enrolled in a online class which structured my learning. As I watched online videos alot of them would put online classes down and give some discouraging road map. Thankyou I didn't get none of that energy from you. I will be looking for a internship start of 2023, and your advice and video further encourages me that I will be a Data Analyst.
i am 42 have decided to embark on the journey of data science. No degree just high school pass out..
i m into construction business it aint doing well so thought to learn some new skills. dta science is a hot cake these days and kind of looks appealing. I wish you all the best.
@@tabish128 where do u live?
@@Rmrus karachi,Pakistan .
You got this bro, just build the strong portfolio as this is what will be looked at during interviews. Honestly, interviews for data analytics don't tend to be nearly as intense as something like data science or software engineering interviews.
🗣don’t look back you deciding to do this was the hard part, do your beat always✅
I manage a team of analysts at a midsized financial institution, and this is one of the better videos I've seen on this topic. Good recommendations.
Hi there Benjamin. Can I ask for your advice? I am a single father of 3 teens. Been in the mortgage industry for 12 years originating loans and just got fired along with 600 of us Loan Officers. I AM DONE. How can I leverage my mortgage and financial experience and learn about DA, DS and even UX/UI and digital marketing in the mortgage or financial industry? My degree is in PSY lol. oh and I am 51 years old. LMAO
@@rapturefox7068 Train up, and start applying. Sell how you solved problems and, if you know it, industry data.
@@rapturefox7068 hey their! i am just about to begin with the data analyst career and what I'd like to tell you is that DA and DS are two different streams although they share a lot of similarities. i suggest that you should start by choosing whether you want to be a DS or DA and then learn the required skills to enter a career in DA OR DS in your favourite niche, in your case mortgage and financing and I am sure land job easily as a DA OR DS in these fields because of your prior experience in these fields.
@@darkseid2549 thank you. Good luck on your job!
After 30 years as a court reporter and 10 years as a closed captioner, my job is dwindling because of AI captions. For the last few years, I have captioned Microsoft tech events (as they pass off our live captions as their AI product) and through this have become interested in tech. I am 60 and do not have a college degree and just starting. I don't even know enough to know which direction to develop interests in! Here I go!
I am almost 60, too. Strap on a helmet and enjoy the ride!
Hi, I am curious about how the course goes? Do you have had your Career change?
You being a very good writer, one area to look at is documentation writer. Writing manuals, and guides, and self help online manuals, WYSIWYG manuals as well.
I'm joining you on the career change. Just quit to transition from Management to Developer. 6 month program and having spoke to several recruiters the outlook is good. I was advised to use Leetcode to prep for interviews and starting looking 3 months before finishing my training program. Leverage your current network everyone knows someone in IT. Good luck! 🎉
This is best intro to data analysis I've seen. It actually deals with the real skills you'll use.
Very insightful video wish I knew this a decade ago, but im currently a senior consultation analyst in my mid 30s now for a engineering company, but for sure learning/using python , Excel, Tableu and SQL in previous roles have helped a great deal in getting really good paying
9:40. Always have more confidence in yourself. Not having confidence will kill all your goals and dreams. Not to say you have some doubts or are afraid. But you should be more afraid of NOT failing, because ( I know it's clichy) failing is where you discover yourself and gain experience. I spent WAY too long not having confidence and wasted huge amounts of time compared to just plowing ahead, making mistakes, and learning on the fly.
This is exactly what I was looking for. I guess part of being an analyst is this ability to present your experience (aka data) in an easily digestible manner. Thank you:)
Thank you, this is very helpful! I am a highschool student considering to try in this field, so I have been searching for information related to data analysts. Perhaps I can learn something before I even go to university! Thank you so much for all the experience and resources you shared again!
You dont get to see a lot a video where you really enjoy the character of a person talking. Thank you for this.
Thanks for your great video. Don't know how many times I've started, stopped, started again before realising I haven't really sat down and considered a lot of what you talk about here! Spot on and great advice for this middle aged fella looking to finally move into a field he has long been interested in!
Thank you so much! Just turned 27, have been practicing python daily and getting ready to tackle this journey!
Thank you for all your insights! I appreciate your vulnerability and honesty - as a person stepping into this new field, I have many questions and doubts, but watching your video motivates me to go for it. Good luck!
I easily get bored watching this type of videos, but really Tom, I genuinely interested in how you brought all of this to our plate, great video! thank you for the all of the insights!
Thank you so much, with your video you answered most of my questions on the subject and even gave me material where to start from🙏
Thank you so much, dude. You are the best of them all. You literally took me by the hand and took me on a fascinating tour around the beautiful world of data analysis. I wish you could be my personal coach. With you, I'm sure to hit my goal of becoming a skillful data analyst- just like you.
Great Video! I like the fact that CareerFoundry takes a serious and in depth approach to data analytics, without being too complex to figure out.
This video can be incredible useful for anyone in tech industry and not only in the Data Analytics field. Thank the author for such clear and useful coaching!
The great thing about being in data analytics is that we possess the power to represent data in ways to push our agenda. To sway hearts an opinions in ways that we deem appropriate.
This video gave me lots of confidence. So comprehensive and goal-oriented. Thank you!
Thank you for your help-very encouraging to people starting out!
You have done amazing! Only 15 minutes but golden advice!I worked in IT for a long time, mostly as a business analyst and product manager and did some data analysis with a few things and worked on data projects. Your description, advice are spot on and very valuable! Helped me a lot for my next moves and goals too, very sound advice! Your delivery is amazing too, not too animated like some people do nor saying too much but not much. You chose your advice to generously help people, not appear like helping, not for clicks only. This is valuable!
How is the stress level as a business analyst?
Hi I’ll like you to help me through some tins on data analysis I’m a beginner
I appreciate your take on this! I can’t afford schooling and it’s just good to know that there are resources that can still help me get a good job. So thank you so much!!
So how did it go 6 months later? I'm just now starting.
Awesome, I am a Service Manager and would be studying data analytics this year to improve my analytical skills
Just the video I needed to see! Thank you so much for your well-defined, informative video☺️!
So you started AFTER obtaining a master's in computer science. That puts you extremely far ahead of most people. What would be good to know prior to starting to learn Python?
After 16+ years of software engineering, I’m exploring data analysis. It all sounds so wonderful!
Thank you so much Tom!! Love the content. Thank you careerfoundry. Please keep maving many more such valuable and informative videos.
You're welcome! Stay tuned, there are a lot more videos like this planned in the near future!
Great presentation! You make Data Analytics less intimidating. 💗
Agreed on every point. At least here in the US, the only people who actually care about your degree are recruiters for government jobs.
As a data point: I bailed from my bachelor's degree halfway through. Worked at Blomberg for 2 years, then Reddit for 8 years and now am VP level.
★Edit: added my email to my bio. Happy to take time and chat with future/new data folks (so long as I'm allowed to email you later this year when I am trying to hire for Jr Data Analyst roles)
@@AnnaCummings_ he's obviously not telling you the truth. You took the bait 😂
Hi, what I struggle to understand a bit, is that a lot of people in the field are saying exactly the opposite "Don´t even try to make it without a degree" and when one looks at the job offers for positions they all mention a degree in the field. I don´t know what to think.
@@julienpuertas9253 let me tell you something from my actual experience. I went to a boot-camp to learn web development for 1 year and after we finished they put us in a program for job coaching which was absolutely waste of time the coach didn't know any technical skills He used to show up every time giving us a very generic information that I could have got simply from UA-cam which what he was doing by the way he used to send us UA-cam mock-up interviews and it was not that relevant because as a web developer you have to go through also technical interviews and we all lacked this part as students like we didn't know what to expect and didn't get any training regarding this. Now moving to the other issue when we applied to companies as junior web developers not all the companies but the majority of the companies were requesting to have a degree in computer science and every time I used to apply I used to get rejected, telling me that they have found someone more suitable which is of course someone with a degree will have a priority over someone who hasn't. Coming to a conclusion at the end I wish I would have self-taught myself and saved a lot of money and time.
Thanks for the presentation. It has generated confidence in me, I'll try it.
This is so helpful and gently done. Thank you!
Great video, full of very valuable content and without wasting time. Thank you very much.
So many resources out there however getting some direction from university or experienced instructors helps so much. I know the author here does not agree with university but it can help open doors for certain jobs. My tip would be to make sure you can explain your analysis to someone with no data background
Really helpful content. Thanks a lot to you and your team.
Only video I need to watch to get started with data analytics
So valuable, thanks Tom! Make more videos on data analytics please!!
Thanks! Stay tuned for more videos on data analytics in the coming weeks!
I come from the cruise ship industry particularly in the food and beverage. I was a waiter. And im already 30 yo. But I'm planning to change careers to something i can do digitally and until i get old. And i think data analytics is a sustainable skill in the long term and is future proof.
I am overwhelmed with all the things i have to study and skills to acquire.
Im gonna start from zero!
Watching this video has helped me to clear my fears as a newbie in the Data Analytics world. I am in my 4th week of learning from an online platform and we are through with Excel now on Power BI. Following your roadmap to the letter will suit me. Thanks for the video.
Hie if you don't mind me asking, which online platform are you using to learn I also want to study the same. Thank you
Hi! This is great! I am currently in the midst of changing career after 10+years in it. Currently trying to teach myself on an online platform while doing my full-time job. However, the path seems arduous since both are time-intensive. I was contemplating an online school with job placement, since it seems like the best & fastest way to get me in the field, esp with a steep learning curve. I was also getting disheartened as I keep seeing a mixture of jobs ads to get a feel of what employers are looking out for- most requesting for those with Bachelors/Masters in Computer Sci, etc with others requesting experience with relevant doable certifications. Thanks for your clear direction & insights! Cldn't come at a better time...
Glad you liked it! It's tough to juggle a career change with a full-time job. Around 90% of our career changers are balancing employment and their career change, so we're pretty accustomed to this. So if you're looking for that online school with job placement, we certainly might be able to help you out. I’m currently in a university with a DANL concentration and every year there is a private event where recruiters come and hire us for internships so although I disagree with your take on not going to a university, it really differs depending on everyone’s situation & journey, which is the beauty of succeeding. But most importantly, if you want it bad enough, it’s yours.

Although I have a degree in computer science and engineering, I work as a 3D animator (That I learned because of my fascination with the CG Industry). I will soon be relocating to New York and I want to pursue a career in data science, thus starting a profession as a data analyst will be gratifying for me. I am studying alone and plan to enroll in a CareerFoundry boot camp. The thing that worries me the most is that because I lack past work experience, I might have a difficult time landing my first job. Although I think I pick things up quickly and have a great career ahead.
I have been doing a ton of research and what I can tell is build that port and build it quickly. Doing free-lance and bro bono work (lol). Once you have 5-10 projects that you have built then incorporate that into a portfolio to present in the interviews
