DUANE ALLMAN is the soul reason I learned how to play guitar. His playing and feel will never be matched. In my humble opinion. You guys rock! Always real with feel.
The song just exemplifies heartbreaking blues. Way b4 Chad and his wife were born , there were phone booths, the man is and his heart are lower than a snakes belly in a wagon rut. Not only is he heartbroken, but he's also flat broke . That dime that he's asking for is worth a $ million dollars, cuz its his absolute last chance to win that womans heart back. The guitar of Duane Allman perfectly mixed with the keyboard s , horns and Boz s vocals, doesn't make it a song per~sae but takes everyone of us into the heartache thats being felt.
I’ve listened to this hundreds of times over the years. And I still get goosebumps like it’s the first time I ever heard it. Boz is such an underrated artist, and Duane was beyond amazing. This is a musical masterpiece.
And to think that Duane was only 22 years old when he recorded this with Boz. Imagine what we missed out on with him passing at only 24. He had barely scratched the surface of his extraordinary talent.
Duane is is one giving this song that righteous soul…not to take away from Boz because he’s done a hell o a job on f vocals here. But yeah…I’m a looong time Allman Brothers fan. Sky Dog dose it again!
@@rickeyward5986 Yes, you're right. Fenton co-wrote "Texas Flood" with Larry Davis and played lead guitar on the original recording. Davis later switched from bass to guitar himself.
It was said that Fenton Robinson recorded this a few days before Boz but Boz’s came out first because of the weather in Chicago kept it from being released on time.
Imagine it's 1969 and you are 12 years old and this song comes on your transistor radio when you are about to go to sleep. One of those life changing moments. Thanks Wilbur.
I love this song, and I was a DJ in New Orleans for a while, and as a DJ, you love a 12 minute and 30 second song even more (bathroom break, call the girlfriend, etc.), you know? Boz, Duane, the Muscle Shoals studio musicians, it's so perfect.
I've been recommending this song to so many reactors, but nobody has done it yet... until this: THANK YOU! I'm from Daytona Beach and the Allmans are still revered here to those of us that were alive when they were getting going. Dwayne went to Muscle Shoals to do studio work and was there for this. Great guitar with a fantastic vocal from Boz. Again, thanks for this.
Like the first few Allman Brothers Band records, it is mostly the musicians that loved the music and understood what was happening. The band is mostly the Muscle Shoals studio players; including Duane. They were sent up to the Atlantic Studio's in NYC. I believe this was a ONE TAKE, which makes it more remarkable. As a drummer myself, that Guitar playing is just off the charts! One of those covers that's better than the original.
I saw Boz a few weeks back in Santa Rosa, CA. 78 years old and his voice is PERFECT! I go to all the big shows to try to see these guys one more time before they're done and Boz is the best concert I've seen in several years (since I saw ELO). And this was my favorite number from the show!
I'm 77 now and I first heard it after I got back from Vietnam I lost love and found new love and I'll be leaving the party soon but play it one time for me ...
Boz always ends his concerts with this. It sends the audience away with a smile & ready to dance. If you'd like to hear another early Duane Allman guitar effort, give a listen to Hey Jude by Wilson Pickett.
The blues! How blue can you get? Not only is he broke but heartbroken. Back in the day when you had to make a call from a phone booth shows how desperate and low he was, and not even have 1 thin dime in your pocket, to get ahold of the woman he loved.
I love long intros…simply because it’s putting you in place heart mind and soul for what’s to come. This album by Boz Scaggs is a trip. I have it on vinyl and it’s one of my top ten. Check out I’ll be long gone from this same record, sooo good.
Dude see if you can find some of his stuff from the 1970"s through the Disco age. He has been able to adjust his style and no one has or will pin a Genre to him. Very unique guy. He's has been going strong on the live gigs. I was a young teen when I found his music. and I am still in his style of songs in 2022
As fast as Duane Allman was mastering the guitar, it makes one wonder how much more of a contribution he would have made to his genre of choice had he lived to be old. It hurts to think that DA passed away at the early age of 25, right along with all the others who passed too early (Stevie Ray Vaughn, Janis Joplin, Buddy Holly, Jim Morrison, Lowell George, Jimi Hendrix, Amy Winehouse, Bradley Nowell + many others...... RIP). Fabulous reaction, TY.
Someone said that Derek Trucks is the guitar player that Duane would have become had he lived longer. That’s high praise for Derek, and I think it is warranted.
a great cover of Fenton Robinson's original. As the story goes when the release of the original was scheduled there was a historic blizzard in chicago. if i remember correctly two things happened. it delayed the release of the single but tragically Mr Robinson was in a car wreck due to the storm and there was a fatality and he went to jail for vehicular manslaughter. He has an amazing LP on Aligator records. I think there was some drama about boz scaggs not giving him proper credit.
Say, "Bahzz" rather than "Bowz". He had the nickname 'Bosley' in school, shortened later to 'Boz'. He went to school (St Mark's) with Steve Miller, and was a vocalist/guitarist in Steve's first band, The Marksmen. Interestingly, Steve Miller is the godson of Les Paul, and the story goes that he was allowed to tour the factory every year and pick out something nice, in hopes, said Les, "he would become something one day." I don't think you reacted yet to Boz's JOJO, or BREAKDOWN DEAD AHEAD. Great '70s Boz Scaggs.
True story, funny thought, I saw him in concert right before THE FLU closed everything down for 2 years. When he did this song I was so tempted to throw a dime to the stage. Added note, the organist was off the chain good that night, especially on this song. Chod, you really need to check out his greatest hits live concert that is here on YT. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/5wNKQ7RRXfk/v-deo.html Its one of the best and I know you both will enjoy immensely.
@@moefeaux1442 Why thank you! When I bought this album albums were 2.99 with Boz and Duane it was a easy sale! Duane was also incredible on Eric Clapton's Derick and The Domminos!
Sad beautiful song. Please react to 'Ask me about nothing but the blues' and Some Things Happen' . These songs were performed by an older Boz Scaggs but they are beautiful nevertheless.

50+ years and Duane Allman's playing on this still gives me goosebumps.
Yes!
yes indeed... in the words of Travis Tritt, " Damn I miss Duane Allman, I wish he was still around"...
Gut wrenching.

Recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound studio in Sheffield, Alabama with the Swampers backing instrumentals.
❤ If I could only listen to one song for the rest of my life this would be it.
Incredible guitar work from Sky Dog! Shout out to the man who wrote this classic and recorded it first, Fenton Robinson, a great Chicago blues man.
I had the original recording by Fenton Robinson. Now I'm old and have a bad case of CRS. I think he wrote Texas Flood.

I heard this when it 1st came out because of Duane playing guitar and loved Boz ever since
Duane Allman on guitar, like no other
Great, great, great, great, great song. Boz and Duane are unbeatable. That was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

There has never been a song that has even come close to the greatness of this recording INMHO
Recorded in 1969. A masterpiece.
Amazing song!
As long as we’re in a Duane frame of mind, you’re now ready for some Derek & the Dominoes. You’ll fit right in.

Awesome song by Boz with Duane Allman on guitar; can't get better than this.

Saw Boz and band do this back in SF after he left the Steve Miller Blues Band. One of my all time favorite blues songs. Thanks for doing this one!✌️
One of the all time electric blues performances.
This was oh so nice!! Really enjoyed it!! And enjoyed your reaction as well!! Great suggestion!!
Love this song.
First heard of Boz from the first 2 Steve Miller Band albums! Children of the Future and Sailor! Boz sang 2 or 3 songs on each and he was great!

Early Steve Miller especially with Boz is my favorite incarnation of Steve’s band. Never liked any of his later stuff
🙂🔥 love this blues at its best!!! Duane Allman playing guitar the organ horns Boz Scags’ voice awesome! 😊🫶🫶🤟🇺🇸🙏🙏

Long way from anything off of Silk Degrees! Bozz is primarily a bluesman.
There is an amazing video of Boz Scaggs performng this song around 1985. It is about 15 minutes long and worht every moment.

Duane Allman....you are missed 😢
It's been over 50 years and although the world may have changed completely, this song remains a mighty reminder of Duane Allmans' genius.
I’ve always loved this song! And BOZ rhymes with CAUSE 😉❤️
His name is pronounced with the short o like in Chod. Like wizard of OZ but with a B in front of it.
Perfection.
Wow, what a great pic
