THANKS FOR PICKING THIS TUNE, JM!! 55 YEARS NOW, AND IT'S STILL THE GREATEST BLUES SONG THAT I'VE EVER HEARD!!! DUANE'S GUITAR IS JUST PHENOMENAL, AND SPOONER OLDHAM IS GREAT AS WELL!!!
Barry Beckett on keyboards just setting up the mood with all that melancholy regret and sadness, and then Duane comes in with Albert King-like licks that cause your heart to burst in pain. And then...Boz. Sorrow is his middle name, and he's carrying his guilt and grief like it's his last day on Earth. When he hits that high note on "Oh, she's a good girl, but at that time, I just didn't understand," you KNOW his soul is about to go to Heaven. This man was TORMENTED by loss!
The original version of “Loan Me a Dime” was a forty-minute jam session, which was shorted to the twelve-minute version on the Boz Scaggs album to fit the other songs.
"BOZ".... Born William Royce Scaggs in Canton, Ohio on June 8, 1944, he grew up in Oklahoma and Texas, where he spent his teenage years immersed in the blues, R&B and early rock 'n' roll. Inducted into the Rock & Roll HOF 2003
Duane Allman made the top 10 on Rolling Stone magazine's 100 Greatest Guitarists list even though he died in 1971 at only 24 years of age. Scaggs' collaboration with Allman was a matter of being at the right place at the right time and capturing lightning in a bottle.
This song was known to someone involved with Boz Scaggs’ eponymous album released two years later in 1969. Scaggs’ album was an effort by Atlantic records to showcase a newly signed artist and highlight the talents of the Muscle Shoals rhythm section (including guitarist Duane Allman). The track, here simply called “Loan ME A Dime”, at twelve and a half minutes allowed “The Swampers”, as the group was known in the studio, to stretch out as never before being previously restrained to recording singles for artists like Aretha Franklin and Wilson Pickett.
@@dannymoore6886 YES. Remember it well....I saw both LIVE Recorded shows with The Blues Brothers in Hollywood. The entire band is TOO DAMN GOOD. "The Colonel" and Matt "Guitar" Murphy on guitars. "Blue Lou" Marini on sax with Tom Malone and Allen Ruben. I can be heard whistling on both "Briefcase Full Of Blues" and "Made In America".... Great memories.
@@dannymoore6886That's bad information. The "Swampers" were the Muscle Shoals rhythm section in Muscle Shoals, AL. Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn, and Booker T were with the Stax Records rhythm section in Memphis. None of the Stax people were on this recording! Give credit to the M.S. players who were on this song: G- Eddie Hinton Jimmy Johnson, Duane Allman; B- David Hood; D- Roger Hawkins; Keys- Barry Beckett; Sax- Joe Arnold. James Mitchell; Horns- Gene Miller Also, while the legendary Dunn & Cropper were in on the Blues Brothers project, Booker T was not.
I'm so glad u got to hear Duane Skydog Allman i think u can hear where the nickname came from, he could always take it to the next level higher in a most beautiful way, i could see he spoke to u. its beautiful
"Not A Music Expert".... You're getting there, one Classic Rock Artist/Song at a time. You have the best names in your Playlist. No better way to learn.
Thanks for doing this song. I haven't listened to it for years. I still have the album but don't have a stereo anymore. I played this song so much I ruined the needle. The ending with the horns is just phenomenal. And duane well we all know how great he was. Rock on!
"A Joy To Listen Too".... Yep. There are songs that everybody knows because they were played on radio often. There are songs that aren't as well known by most we call "Album Cuts", and some that are legendary One Of A Kind Performances that everybody should hear at least once in their lives.... "Time Has Come Today".... "In-Gada-Da-Vida".... "Comfortably Numb"... "Free Bird".... "Stairway To Heaven"..."I Put A Spell On You"... "Don't Eat The Yellow Snow"...."Hotel California"...."All Along The Watchtower"...."Do You Feel Like We Do"... "Child Of Vision"..."Magnum Opus"..."Soul Sacrifice"...."Carry On Wayward Son"....This Is Another One Of Those.
i love this song, it's the first song i heard by Boz, and I was a fan ever after. thank you! most people never even heard of this after he got more airplay for later things.
Boz can sing the blues, R&B, and Funk with a unique smooth vocal style. So many great albums and songs to taste from a banquet of unforgettable tunes. Don't rest on this great musician. Thanks, JMBOY, for all the light you're bringing to our lives. I know you love guitarists like Duane Allman, Gary Moore, and SRV. Duane and Gary are somer of the greats gone too soon. Gary does the best cover ever of Roy Buchanan's song "The Messiah." , and totally kills it. If you want to hear someone who is the father of bending strings and amazing playing, try Roy Buchanan. I own every record he ever made. No special effects, no pedals, just his guitar and bending the strings. Never got the respect he deserved. Jeff Beck adored him ('Cause We Ended As Lovers) is dedicated it to him. SRV said he was beyond anything he had ever seen. Gary Moore called him The Master. But he's mostly unknown except to the Guitar Gods. He was called The Master of The Telecaster. Old School Great. RIP Roy Buchanan, SRV, and Gary Moore. Duane Allman ua-cam.com/video/DDOIL5OqvYs/v-deo.html
Boz's vocals were impeccable as always but the real star of this collaboration was Duane on guitar. It was really cool watching the joy spread over your face as you realized how good this song was. Basically, they were the same expressions I had on my face the first time I heard it. I was probably about your age. If you want to hear some real down-home dirty Blues check out a song called Blues Power by Albert King. He was one of Stevie Ray Vaughan's main influences.
New subscriber after queuing up your playlists and listening for most of a day. It's a bit like listening to good FM radio back in the day. Whole songs and heavily slanted toward great horns, jazzy notes and funky/bluesy fusion. Would highly encourage you to check out the best concert movie of all time: Stop Making Sense from Talking Heads. You have to see their stage show to fully appreciate their range. You've barely scratched the surface of what the Allman Brothers Band has to offer too. I envy you all the firsts still ahead.
Bozz Scaggs is playing lead in the opening of this song, then Duane Allman comes in later, then when the tempo picks up there are two lead guitars playing that is bozz and Duane Great analysis. Give the song "Be Careful With The Full". Johnny winter. The studio version is superior.
"Loan Me A Dime" Somebody loan me a dime, I need to call my old time, used to be. Somebody loan me a dime, Mmm, I need to call my old time, used to be. Oooo, little girl's been gone so long, You know it's worryin me. Hey, it's worryin, worryin me. I know she's a good girl, But, at that time I just didn't understand. I know she's a good girl, But, at that time I just didn't understand. Oh, you know I didn't. Somebody loan me a dime, You know I need, I need a helpin hand. Somebody. Yeah, she's a good girl, But, at that time I just didn't understand. Oooo, I know she's a good girl, But, at that time I just could not understand. Whoa, no. Somebody better loan me that dime, To ease my worried mind. Whoo. Now, I cried, just cried, Just like a baby, all night long. Ooo, you know I cried, just cried, Just like a baby, all night long. Whooo, somebody better loan me that dime, I need my baby, I need my baby here at home. Oooo, yeah.
I missed a chance to see Boz live about a year ago. I don’t care for the venue (casino with folding chairs on a flat, rather than pitched, floor). I may have mentioned this before on your channel. If so, I apologize. At age 63 and having beaten multiple myeloma 5 times over the last 5 years, I am finished messing around with things that are sort of good. 😊
"I am finished messing around with things that are sort of good"..... Great comment, agreed. Give me only the best, and keep the rest to those that can tolerate it.
Boz on vocals and Duane on the lead guitar, with the muscle shoals swampers playing in the background. Absolute classic tune.
One of my favorites. I still have my original vinyl.

One of the most beautiful and emotional songs ever. And Duane's guitar playing is so uniquely beautiful and unmistakable.
The original version of “Loan Me a Dime” was a forty-minute jam session, which was shorted to the twelve-minute version on the Boz Scaggs album to fit the other songs.
Man, if we only had the whole jam now, bet it would be amazing.

Off his debut album. Long but very excellent track, pays off for the listener.

THANK YOU FROM BUFFALO, NY. NIAGARA FALLS IS FLOWING AGAIN LOTS OF TEARS WHEN YOUR DOWN AND OUT.
Watching you react to songs that I've loved for so many years brings back feelings that I felt when I first heard them, this is good.👏🎶💞
Park my 55 Ford Panel at the beach... CRANK this song, make a bunch of friends.

Love, love, love Boz!!
Nickname: Was given the nickname “Bosley” by a classmate, then "Boswell" and "Bosworth", it was later shortened to “Boz”.
HIGH JM.... Thanks again for this classic.

I need to call my old-time used to be is one of my favorite line in any song. In fact, it's almost the only line in the whole song. lol
