Duane first picked up the guitar at 14 and left this world at the age of 24. He was literally born to play, there are people around the world still learning his licks from Allman Brothers songs to his studio work. His abilities on slide guitar are where he shined the most ✨🎸 and earned him the nickname Skydog✌️

Muscle Shoals studio. Some of the greatest studio musicians ever. Duane Allman played with them often. He also played on Aretha Franklin's record made there around the same time (year or so earlier) as this was recorded.

As others have said this was done at Muscle Shoals Sound and I BELIEVE not very long after The Swampers left FAME Studios.

This album was recorded at Muscle Shoals with the famous musicians that played on so many blues and soul and early blues/rock songs, and backed some of the biggest acts from the late 1960s and early 70's. My God, so much fantastic music was recorded there under the auspices of Rich Hall. This album was produced by Jann Wenner, who founded Rolling Stone magazine and was friends in the Bay area with his neighbor, Boz Scaggs. Anyway, Nick, you can read wikipedia to get some history on this. And for you and Lex, I can't recommend strongly enough that you watch the two Netflix rockumentaries, "Muscle Shoals" and "The Wrecking Crew" because it will bring together so much information relevant to so many songs and artists that we (your audience) will suggest. Indeed -- so many we already have!! Plus, they're really well-done films. Take your time and do it off-channel, of course.

One of the most beautiful and emotional songs ever. And Duane's guitar playing is so uniquely beautiful and unmistakable.

Really glad you liked this. This thing just oozes soul and pain. As other commenters have noted, it's not one we find people reacting to. Thanks for extending your single-song request time to 15 minutes - this one (and another longer one I have in the queue) would have been impossible to show you otherwise, and tough to incorporate into a marathon. I'm also a "less is more" person, and the pauses and silences are tremendously effective in creating drama, and letting (as you said) your bandmates shine.

I saw Boz at the world famous ryman auditorium in 2021 and it’s one of my favorite concerts of all time. He played this and I was on the verge of tears. The whole audience just watched in awe during this song, and after was one of the loudest applauses I’ve ever heard. Still gives me chills thinking about it. Music is unmatched

This was played a lot in the early 1970s when it first came out and subsequently became a staple in “free form” (where DJs could play anything they wanted to) FM radio stations in the Bay Area. Very popular and deservedly so😃

I love your statement-"One of the most beautiful notes sometimes are the ones that are not being played in a solo". Duane Allman was a master at the pause/the silence between notes as heard on this track, as is David Gilmour and Joe B. I love SRV, he fills every millisecond with guitar, and he does it beautifully. But even SRV, the best part of his Texas Flood solo (to me) is when he bring it down, and has pauses.

Legendary guitarist and vocalist on an iconic blues track for sure. Seeing as how you seem to be one of the few reaction channels to step outside the box of just big hits, I’d love to make a request for a song that I believe Don Henley said was the most beautiful song ever written. “Late For The Sky” from the album of the same title by Jackson Browne is truly one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. ♥️✌🏼😎

Duane was barely 22 years old when this was recorded! When a couple of my favorite, local, college radio DJs were retiring their shows after decades, and they both played a 'Last Song' that really touched and stuck with me. This song, and 'Wild is The Wind' by Nina Simone. If you haven't heard 'Wild is the Wind' all I can say is that it is a fragile masterpiece.
On the subject of Duane Allman's session work......off the top of my head, I can say that 'Hey Jude' by Wilson Pickett, and 'The Weight' by Aretha Franklin are ridiculous. Treat yourself.

One of Duane Allman's biggest influences was Miles Davis, a true master of musical space. According to Duane and his bandmates he listened to "Kind of Blue" endlessly.

I was always hoping that someone would review this, but it's too long for most younger reaction folks.
Muscle Shoals had such a powerful line up, imagine Dwayne playing guitar on so many diverse genres of artists. Plus Boz's killer vocals. Love this song.

"but it's too long for most younger reaction folks." Yes, too long and too obscure. So many UA-cam reactions cover the same ground over and over again.

Eric Clapton hired Duane to play on the Layla sessions. The short time Duane knew Eric they became musical soul mates.Duane got his great guitar phrasing from listening to a lot of John Coltrane! Duane was a monster player, who my opinion could smoke about anybody out there. Jimi Hendrix thought very highly of Duane Allman

Like the fact that the original was 41 minutes and there's a sign at Muscle Sholes that's still up from the recording of this song, that says, Hippies Use the Front Door. Duane was not only a genius musician who was not only a master on guitar but invented an entire genre by himself, he was also humble. He came in the back door and asked if hippies were allowed in, inspiring the sign. There's more too. I've just got sick of writing them.

Nice reaction. But you gotta listen to the next song, "Sweet Release". It's the last cut in Boz's debut. The fade out w Duane picking and backgroung singing by what sounds like angels is heavenly indeed. A more than satisfying follow up after
"Loan Me a Dime". BTW the entire album is what's now called 'Americana' cause it doesn't fit a particular genre.

WOW, I stop now, after Boz started singing and I can say, by the instrumental intro I never would have guessed that it's a Boz Scaggs song ... parts of the intro reminded me a bit of Zeppelin's Since I've been loving you ..... ok, let's continue 😆
Over all it's a great song and I like it better than the later "radio-Boz", even though it wasn't bad either

Long time favorite Boz recording. I've heard it mentioned before that the beginning of this song has some similarities to Pink Floyd's Shine on You Crazy Diamond. At times I can almost hear it. I'm not necessarily saying it inspired Floyd though. Love both songs at any rate.
