You should have had a third option for MANY people like me. Players who completed the game at the average level of 150-180 and are just waiting for the DLC. No new character, no NG+.
That's very true, but in that case I feel like there's no decision to make. I myself debated between the two options I talked about in the video before eventually deciding to stick with my ng+ character
I made a new character and now I'm going to play on my NG7+ character I was afraid it would be to easy but seeing those number and seeing the math really helped thank you
Im a plus lvl 200 (no ng+) with 10 larval tears still playing my OG game build. It's always been my intention to play thru the DLC on my OG build to see how DLC endings correlate with OG endings/choices. Once it's all done, I'll consider respec if I still feel like playing, but I dont see a purpose for NG+ if im being honest.
Im going into SOTET on ng7 mainly because that’s my main character I’ve had since launch, and because I have literally everything on that save lol. I made a new character just in case the expansion is too difficult though. I figured most people will be playing the expansion on ng7 eventually and that it’s kind of inevitable that somebody will have a rune level 1 on ng7 SOTET run up on yt like a week after launch.
I started a new play through about a week ago after being on NG+7. I’m in the end game now at the erdtree. Gonna mess around a bit more and deal with rykard and malenia to wrap up the remembrances still left. I gotta say that I’ve got no fatigue and am somehow still finding things I haven’t found in like 300 hours. That’s just me though and I’m having fun on a new game run. Overall I think you’re right and it’s just up to personal choice for the player.
Yeah the fatigue is definitely a personal thing. I feel like the average player though has only done the main content and no side stuff because it's too long for them. Those are the people more susceptible to burn out
I looked through my sad list of like characters. Found the 2 that had the most progress and booted them up. One was in the middle of Leyndell with half of Mt Gelmir done and the other had done seemingly everything except leyndell. I waffled between the 2 of them for way too long before simply booting up my original character that's level 175 on ng+. I've already 100% completed the game and don't have to worry about grabbing anything, and 25 levels over the "intended" level has greatly diminishing returns at that point anyways. I feel like I'll be an appropriate level to take on the dlc.
I've completed the game once and clicked to start NG+. So my main and only character is in the first room of the game in NG+. Am i stuck and have to beat most of the game either on NG+ or new character to play the DLC?
So you do have to do some content to access the dlc, but it'll be way faster than making a whole new character. Take your ng+ guy and kill radahn and mohg (by miquellas cocoon). The boss room for mohg is where you'll be able to access the dlc. Since you're on ng+ and already have your build, you could rush straight to both of these bosses and beat them pretty easily
This helped me so much. I kinda messed up and went straight into a new game plus after just beating the game. I wasn’t paying attention and thought it was gonna keep my old game and start a new slot. So now I’m at the start again and I wanna play the dlc and I was debating do I have do it all again or just beat Radan and mog again and get right into the dlc.
I've played the game once on NG, and I am currently on NG+. I have very little time to play, so I have not finished NG+ yet. I am just at the at the exact point where I can challenge Mohg. I am way overleveled because I have been farming for RARE EQUIPMENT DROPS whenever I've had the chance to play in the last two months (which is not that much, I repeat), so having not much on which to spend the runes, and they being so easy to get at this time, I am way, way, way overleveled for the next two or three game cycles. I wanted to finish NG+ weeks ago, and then start a new fresh run just for the DLC, which I was assuming I would have to end up playing at least until the end of the summer because that's how long it'll take me to get to the starting point of it, but I just didn't have the time to finish my NG+ before the DLC dropped. As it is, I'm already feeling a little burnt out, and I'm not sure I want to take months of whatever amount of time I have to play daily to do again what I've done since about February of this year in the game. And I can't rush the game, mind you, my OCD won't let me: both runs have been a completionist run (and even so, I've found little bits of the game on NG+ that I didn't see on NG). And now they've just released a patch together with the DLC that will change (if every so slightly) the game mechanics, so this NG+ is not even going to be a more thorough but mostly the same playthrough as NG. This has me conflicted: I either start the DLC (I can do it today if I decide to go against Mohg) with what to me now seems a slightly busted run because of the sudden (slight) modification of the game, or go through months of gameplay with a new character with the now somewhat different mechanics. Mind you, Miyazaki did recommend in an interview to do the DLC afresh, but a recommendation is not a commandment, and as I said, I am WAY overleveled, but that can be a double edged sword: the DLC may now be too easy, and I don't want it to be too short timewise. Ah, heck, I might even start a new character and alternate between that one and the one I have now, even if it takes me to the end of the year to finish the game with the two.
I think your best bet is just taking that ng+ character and jumping into the dlc. It's not that much of a challenge on only ng+1. This way you can start thr dlc sooner rather than later
But also, you die in 2hits or a true combo ,if you don't want to wear sheep armour or semi pot looking armour.(In new game +4), because I have a ng+4 faith build wearing crucable armour, which is one of the beefier armours and it only lets me take 3hits from any late game mob or bosses. Along with dragoncrest greatshield and pearldrake+2 talismans. And due to resistance and health increases, for something like elden beast, it started to take 29consecutive takers flame from blasphemous blade to kill him(24 if both blade and ash of war hit) at 80faith and 40strenght.
My plan is to take a build I did a kinda challenge run with katanas only and then just stop doing the challenge go into the dlc and respec for whatever I need for new weapons is this a good idea
5:25 this is what happened to me when I started making a new character. I might honestly just make a new new character, CE myself all of the crystal tears and whetknives, and rush to Radagon and Mogh only. I was already planning on ditching all of my gear as soon as I got into the DLC anyways. Or just pick up my NG+3/+4 RL250+ character because I've only beaten the game once outside of Seamless Co-Op.

Yes you can! As long as you've killed both radahn and mohg you can access the dlc. You'll be able toa access it from mohgs boss room after defeating him
I used cheat engine to switch from journey 3 back to journey 2 and I am having so much more fun. Even the base game was getting me so frustrated with the enemy buff. I'd recommend staying on journey 1 or 2 if you're an average player who finds the base enemy level challenging enough.

I love your take on the NG+ difficulty scaling. Once you have a build and set that works, it doesnt matter how much health and damage/poise resistance enemies have. The point of the game is to get good. Having to hit a few extra times can be stressful, but just slow down play carefully and you're fine. In the first run you can stagger almost every boss and take a large chunk of health while they are recovering. The biggest difference in NG+3 is you dont get massive windows and stuns to hit unless you focus a poise build. It takes a bit more dodging and waiting for a well timed heavy attack.
Thanks for watching! I think it makes for an interesting discussion. Ng+ is undoubtedly more difficult it's just blown out of proportion. I'd hate to see people burn them selves out in a speed run and ruin the dlc just to avoid a bit of an extra challenge. I didn't even discuss the dlcs unique leveling system. I think the argument for making a new build is simply to stack up on larval tears so you can respec and use the new weapons assuming you’ve used some in Ng+
K, you keep saying that you have to rush through the game, and that's no fun, but why is it no fun. Yes, I started a new character. I just really wanted to play through the game with a fresh new out look. Did i skip things? Yes, yes I did but dont you skip things on your new game plus play thoughts like come on. we have played the game once before we dont have to do every little thing because we know what happens or we know that it won't matter ultimately. That doesn't make the game any less fun, though.
Youre right it's still fun even when skipping stuff. I didn't mean that it's not fun unless you do 100% content, I just mean if youre making a character and then trying to rush to the end and level up simply because other people told you to, then that could be not fun
@joegella Well, I can agree on that. That's definitely something that I've learned and dislike about the hardcore souls lovers is that they want you to play it their way. Like the whole using summons is the wrong thing. Just let people play the game they way they want it's in the game, and it's a tool that can be used. I'm personally not an NG+ guy. I'd much rather start the game fresh. But I know that some people really like to build one character up. That's a perfectly fine way to play, too.

I am level 250 INT/DEX build NG+3 I was a bit shocked to have managed to stagger a good few bosses in the dlc. Its over for them if they take a knee.
been playing ER around 1500 hours and still cant perfectly win against melania..dammit...the only boss i still have doubt and a lil bit fear hahha...im now far beyond NG+7 .... almost reach max level and those who started as new player , please watch ThingFishy's video...
That waterfowl dance gets you good.
And damn bro max level. Youre every build all at once
started with ng+7, pretty big difference
I'm on NG+7 and getting oneshot by Messmer's Soldiers when they're buffed. P.s. my vigor is at 99
Thats the point, everyone is getting one shot. Its not special to NG+. Its based off your Scadutree Fragment level
So, I'm starting the dlc on new game+6, ok.
Im so robbing your build
Lol you just gotta go into ng+ at least once to get dual mgs, or get someone to drop it
Yea the dlc isn’t that bad on ng+ my main is also lvl 303. I almost never have to re spec my character.
Well I’m NG+5. I’m about to FAFO.
Lmao it'll be great
Bro i’m on Ng+8 am i cooked?
I think what I'm realizing is we're cooked no matter what. Try to find upgrade mats asap
Ng+6 dlc am I coocked
Watch they patch the scaling for the dlc 😂
Yeah there will definitely be some balance patches. I think the new upgrade mechanic in the dlc will help smooth over everything
this is exactly how i feel and try to tell people ng+ isnt hard, git gud
I cant justify another 100hrs before even starting the dlc
Yeah so you can rush the game instead which would probably take 15 to 20 hours to get to the end of the game and level up to an appropriate level
@joegella I'm grabbin my endgame guy and going balls deep into the dlc
You had 2 years to get ready.
Literally part of the problem. Listen to your tone lol.
Also, in summary, he said you should make a new character lol
