I love this type of content. Simple, everyday "adventures". Not every day has to be a party. It's calm and we can see a side of japan that is not very often advertised. This video greatly reminded of my trip in Japan back in 2018. It gave me the same feeling that I had those 10 days in Kyoto and Tokyo. Japan is such an unique and beautiful country with rich history and intense culture. I really want to revisit Japan.

I have a friend that just discovered last year that she is also allergic to gluten, and she wants to come to Japan someday, so she asks me sometimes how is it like with gluten free stuff here. I can say that compared to Europe, there isn't that much stuff available yet in supermarkets, for example, but it is increasing for sure. Also in bigger cities you can find more gluten free stores and restaurants. ^^

I ❤️ the return of the food adventures! Question: have you noticed the foods in Japan are easier on your symptoms overall? My arthritis is triggered pretty aggressively by American wheat but I didn't have any issues with Japanese wheat or dairy while we were there. I think our trip was the first time I had felt fully nourished in a long time. I know Japan processes and grows their produce differently than the US and my nutritionist thinks my body just responds to their methods better.
Have you noticed anything similar? aside from everything being delicious 😋

I started watching years ago because I also love food and exploring/traveling and learning about different languages and cultures and I'm happy that I can continue to support even today! I'm also unbelievably grateful that you share about having EDS and things to help-- because of that awareness I was eventually able to find out that my struggles were because I have EDS too (and POTS etc.) but I wasn't immediately discouraged because I knew that now that I have identified the cause I can take steps give myself a break mentally and physically when I'm not doing 100%. I definitely went back and watched all the videos on mobility aids etc. for advice haha, but I love that you incorporate the ways you're taking care of yourself and your health into your videos because it's important for you. It's also been a huge help to convince myself to do the same (things as simple as finding a seat when waiting or on the train or taking a less taxing route instead of toughing it like I did before lol). So ya! Thanks so much and hope you have a good rest of your weekend!!

I can’t put into words how much you and your videos mean to me. You’re such a genuine and caring person. The fact that you have EDS and were tired from walking a lot, but would still give someone your seat at the station is so kind. I’ll always support and love you 💖 though I don’t have a chronic illness, you make me want to be kinder and enjoy the little things in life. Thank you 😊

Hi Martina, I watch you since appr. 2013. I never got warm with Simon so I never really wrote comments. So here I am writing you. I am so super happy you are back. Everything I loved about eyk and eys was you. I recently got the diagnose axial spondyloarthritis which is pretty bad. I had some hard years behind me. It got worse very quickly. When you first time talked about eds I couldn't imagine how it must feel to be in chronic pain... Well now I am 33 and I think I understand it quiet well. I love your videos! Before they gave me joy und happiness, now they also give me hope. I want to thank you and let you know you're amazing. I wish you all the best. Let's continue our adventures no matter what. Greetings from snowy southern Germany

Hello to snowy southern Germany from semi-chilly Tokyo! That is a rough pain to deal with, I'm sorry to hear that. I can relate, my SI Joint is my current major problem. About 5 years ago I subluxed my hip at the gym. I re-subluxed my left hip about three weeks ago and now I have to wear an SI Joint belt to help keep my hips in place and it's so painful to sleep, sit, walk...but, I still think that chronic pain helps us to appreciate things in life MORE fully than those people that do not suffer. It isn't an easier hand to be dealt, but if we can control the mental suffering (my build a ladder attitude) we can enjoy life around us more fully. Thanks for watching, and I hope to see you in the comments again sometime. *gentle hugs*

i think I learned a lot from you, even back then when I was still healthy and struggling to understand how it is to have a chronicle pain. I am a huge fan of Japanese supersport bikes. Now I can't ride it that often anymore because of the pain. At first I was frustrated about myself. But now I just chanced my goals. On medium bad days I can still work on the bike. Little by little. For its 30th birthday in a few years I want it to be like brand new. This keeps me going and gives me little success moments. I love to work on it and on days I can ride it, I enjoy it 100 times more than before...

You’re just such an inspiration Martina. I know we’re all strangers but your fortitude truly inspires me. Buy that measuring cup girl and any other miniature things that make your heart happy, you deserve unlimited pure joy! Thank you for being here and showing us it’s ok to struggle but to not give up! 🖤

Fellow EDS (I don't want to say 'sufferer'...) cope-with-er and I recently overdid some bag carrying. Not only was my left shoulder just janked for a week but my arm was so bruised that people thought I had gotten into a fight! So, I feel you there. Also I had so much nostalgia seeing the Book Off door. I miss Book Off. Trying to find second hand manga and Japanese magazines from America has been a nightmare. I've been trying to find the same old issue of Dengeki Maoh for about a month now... It's gotten a lot better finding NEW stuff, especially visiting L.A., but used, forget it!
Your advice for learning menus is really helpful, and those crepes made me so hungry...the best crepes I ever had were in Japan...😫

Oh and it is so overpriced overseas but super reasonable at Book Off. I've been trying not to hoard Japanese magazines and manga but it is tough.. haha! OOF tell me about it, since this video was filmed I am STILL screwed with my left shoulder. My physio tried to relocate it for me last week but it just won't stay in socket so now we're onto slings, rest, KT Tape, and exercise to try and build the muscle to hold it back in place. I had a good cry, and nice "woe is me" last week in the morning then wiped away my sniffly nose and got back to building a ladder. I think us EDSers are pretty dang tough.

Another pin on my google maps hahaha I know the soba yu. mixed with the broth it's fine but some places serve it as a drink and I don't like that.
Thanks for another great adventure (and king kogi radio). Bit homesick for Tokyo even though I've never been to Daikanyama but still enjoyed watching it so much. Looking forward to the next quest 💖🌟
I have that tine measuring cup and next time I'm getting some spares. I use it more often then I imagined. So if you love cooking it is a great thing to have in your kitchen, way easier to measure multiple spoonfuls of ingredients.
I have the same with Japanese; even though I studied Japanese culture and history in university (and took Japanese language as a extra class) and i can have small conversations my reading is teh best in recipes and such. Especially since my EDS got worse I translate and make Japanese cooking recipes in English. But I have always like the dual language books. They have some novels that way and that helps in learning other kanji and language. Now I'm trying (and miserably failing) to read tonari no totoro in Japanese.

Hey Martina. I have suffered from depression most of my 27 years and there have been downs, but a lot of ups. I've struggled to figure out how to live with it as an adult on my own. I'm reminding myself about building a ladder at least once a day now, and I have a tiny wooden ladder hanging from my rearview mirror in my car so I can think about it as I drive to/from work. Your content and your personality help so much. I'm so glad you're making content like this, I love it, and you are just awesome. :)

It really makes me happy that you take us along on your adventures, Martina. I haven't really gone out unless needed since 2020 and I ve been missing out on a greater part of life...but at the same time, I've been home and spending a lot of time with my parents and pets. I've even started painting and paint in my free time when I'm not studying. It hasn't been easy, but that doesnt stop me from building that ladder. Keep safe, Martina!

Thank you for all the helpful hints on accessibility at Daikanyama! So helpful. I visited Tokyo in 2018 and although I can walk okay, stairs are extremely difficult for me and going down stairs even worse. What I learned though is, it may take time to figure it out, but there is almost always an elevator option. In more commercial areas they may even be inside buildings. But if you need them, don’t take the first set of stairs you see when you get off a train. Keep going and you will find the elevator or maybe escalator.

    • @KingKogi
      @KingKogi  2 роки тому +2

Im going to try and add some accessibility hints in each quest, glad it was helpful. I’m the opposite, going up stairs is KILLER for me, and I’m better at going down at a slow pace. Yes you’re totally right, in Tokyo there tends to be an elevator SOMEWHERE but sometimes it’s quite far on one side of the station. But on a bad day I’d rather hunt it down then struggle crawl up the stairs 😂
