I was once asked to describe what Japan's summer heat felt like and all I could say was: it felt like a sponge the size of a double-decker bus had been dipped in boiling water and then dropped on my head. I was told the first time I went out there in the summer that it would be hot, but no one told me the KIND of hot it was. The thing that makes Japan's heat so unbearable is the intensely high humidity. As in the sky isn't even blue anymore, but a kind of washed-out beige even though there are no clouds. You don't mess around with this heat. Seriously. Japanese people (as in they're used to it) die from it every year and thousands are hospitalised. They give out the manual fans for free in the street - ensure you always have at least one with you. Alternate between water and Pocari Sweat, as Pocari Sweat has electrolytes in it whereas water usually doesn't have enough to combat what you're sweating out. Speaking of sweat, keep an eye on it! At times it can be so humid that your skin is always damp, so if you're going into heatstroke and have stopped sweating (very bad sign) it can be hard to tell. Most of the rest is common sense: stick to the shade, umbrella's/hats are your friend, wear sunglasses, eat regularly and always drink more than you feel you need, don't go out or find somewhere cool to sit in the hottest part of the day. Japan is awesome, it's one of my favourite places on earth, but that heat can suck it. Stay safe!
I love your description of humid heat. I used to live in a dry part of Texas and that dry heat felt like stepping into a life sized oven. Like the blast you get when you pull stuff out of the oven, but all around you. I think it's more tolerable than the humid heat you describe.

ah! I love seeing you guys play categories! When we met spring of 2018 at that event Dan was DJ-ing we got to play categories with you guys. It's one of my favorite memories from my time in Japan.
Oh snap! I remember that day! Wow. That was a fun night :)
Just got home from work and saw the notification, what a treat after a terrible day! 💖
I hope this makes your day a bit better!
@@eatyourkimchi it absolutely did, thank you!!
Martina you’re so pretty 😭✨ Also, what a genius idea for a video, thanking you from southern China with our “feels like 44” 😂✨
Adorable video! Thank you so much for sharing!
Where I live, during the summer, it's usually 35 degrees celsius with 100% humidity. It actually averages hotter during the summer than in Japan. Anytime someone finds out I want to go to Japan, they're like, "DON'T GO IN THE SUMMER! IT'S AWFUL!" Meanwhile, I'm like, "Gurl, have you ever been to the midwest?!"
Simon is really pulling off the hipster vibes with the fedora. I love it!
I love these casual videos more than the fancy ones
I love this! America needs to step up their beat the heat game, like with artificial rivers. lol Btw, I heard there is a permanent Sailor Moon cafe opening in Tokyo. It would be super cool to hear about the experience if someone got to go. *winkwink* :D
Me asks boss what do since it’s so hot and humid
Him: drink two bottles of water and get your ass back in the hull.
Me: sir it’s 115 in there and that’s not counting the heat index
Him: shut up pussy and get back in the hull I need those pieces welded today!
I looked up the current Tokyo weather out of curiosity, since you are both Canadian I wondered if you were being melodramatic, and low and behold, living in the American south has more than prepared me for Japanese summer! It's hotter here than it is in Tokyo.
I love your hair Martina in this video. You'd look great with a Bob.
Joanna Rutter if you go way way back to Bucheon Martina she had really cute short hair
She already has a Simon, thx
Omg that ending shot was just so so stunning! Ashimizu looks so lovely!!!
I just came back from my trip in Japan (in the Kansai region), and I can't agree more about the fans and taking time to rest. Our schedule was packed, but we ended up chilling out and resting a lot more. As someone also from Toronto, Canada (and is living as a teacher in Busan, South Korea)...WOW I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH HEAT! All of this is such great advice. . . . i just wish I had watched it before I went to Japan! Hahaha
I NEED THAT UMBRELLA IN MY LIFE!!! - my brain from 0:01 to 4:01 when I got distracted by Simon's inability to deal with the curtains. Love you guys and this video!❤️
I live in Tennessee. Every summer, I always wonder why we don’t move somewhere else. 😅
I dont know if you need to hear this but, i love you both. ❤️ Your videos has helped me through my tough times. Seeing you guys working together while on a date is just the cutest thing i've ever seen.
Watching this while pooping at work to mask the sound. Also, hey great video.
We're the right people for that. Loud, good music changes, SFX...NO ONE WILL SUSPECT A POOP!
@@jeremyalexander9761 A three coiler indeed!
So glad to see you two still making videos! I first found you both when you started in South Korea, I love checking-in! Now I want to go to Japan! I loved this video, and the background noise from what I think are cicadas? Sounds like summer!
Yeah! We’ll probably be making videos forever. It’s something we like doing. We’ll change up our style and message and content in the future, for sure. How so? That we’re not too sure about yet. I hope we’ll see you again in the comments years from now :D
Martina's brain freeze! Lol you could see her collarbones. EDS'er unite
The camera angle at around 10.09 is putting filming on a whole new level! Genre-defining! 😍
Simon: "you will die in the hea-"
Martina: "you'll explode"
Waking up to a new Simon and Martina video is one of those tiny but ohsobig pleasures in life. You always make my day guys ❤️
I have to ask - what's the mosquito situation like?
Beautiful video 💕
The mosquitos here are silent and violent. They bite you all over without making a sound. I miss the noisy ones from Canada that you can run from.
I call them ninja mosquitoes...
Those repellant wipes help quite well though ;-)
Simon and Martina put some cut up lemongrass in your room/mosquito-heavy area and they'll leave you alone!
@@Luxmundee But beware some cats like to eat it. Not harmful but they will throw it up later.
@@eatyourkimchi The airplane sounding skeeters that questionably make you bruise and cast their own shadow... bless Canada. Your mosquitos are a whole new level of impeccably evil though!
Omg!!! This is the first time I’ve seen a freshly uploaded video!! So exciting! Much love from Los Angeles
Woohoo!
Just listen to those cicadas, that's how you know it's HOT
Fangurilla is slowly making her return and I love it.
