It’s very much a buyers market, especially this close to Christmas some families maybe caught short and easiest way to release some equity is trade down on the car, but that floods the market with cars and ends up bringing prices down even more 😢 Good luck Ben, hope you get the price the car deserves 🤞
Great video showing the real world of selling cars privately! I've sold a couple of cars privately recently and one thing I did do, which might be worth a try, was I put the prices up rather than down and for whatever reason (poss algorithms) I actually got fresh enquires at the higher price. When I had genuine enquiries at the higher price it gave me some room to 'offer a deal' and they both sold for more than the original lower price and the buyers felt like they'd had a good deal. Win win!
Yeah I put it up for what I think is a fair price! It’s the lowest mile, lowest owner 7 seater on AT and it’s the cheapest! Think I might have stitched myself up trying to be fair 🤷♂️
I agree, i sold my fiest st mountune during the first lock down before car prices went crazy. Listed it at 6,500 which was the cheapest for a mountune 220 on the internet. I still had people trying to offer 3k. Ended up selling for 6k. But still

It's a real world video Ben - that's what made it so interesting. I did sell a CRV using one of those methods, but it was before Covid so things were a little different in the car market. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the particular one I used but they're no longer trading. It went out to the trade and as soon as it was live, offers flooded in via text message from dealers, and I did sell it the same day to a local dealer. Good luck with the X5 shouldn't take long, looks really nice. I'd think long and hard before jumping in a Continental GT or any Bentley really, the repair bills are jaw dropping.
I have sold 2 cars this year. Tried both Motorway and Carwow. Carwow was over £1k more for both cars. Both sales with Carwow completed with the the agreed auction price. Great service. All I would say is, whoever wins the auction will determine the speed of collection. First time it was more local and completed in 2 days. 2nd time, the buyer was in Scotland and was nearly a week. Not the end of the world but it does mean you need to flexible when lining up the collection of your next car.
We sold our old 2017 Audi Q3 with carwow and got £2000 more than webuyanycar. Honestly was a great experience we needed the car gone quick and so tried webuyanycar online they said £8,600 but went in person they picked at every little scratch (which there wasn't much of🤦🏽♂️) and said oh it's over 100k miles which they already knew online 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️and offer £5,500😂😂. Then went carwow and they offered 7,500 online and it sold the next day for 7,000🤷🏽♂️dealer came that evening and took the car and we went out and bought our Touran the next day😂

The only time one of those sites came good was when I offloaded my 987 Boxster in about 2018 - it was a site called Sell My Car To Jack or something. I just lost nearly half the money I paid for my Jaguar F Type R this summer, but I had bought at peak crazy pricing in 2022 which means I only have myself to blame.
If anything the ending was better being this genuine. If that phone call had been a genuine buyer who wanted to come immediately and give you 10500, the comments would be full of people moaning it’s set up
I've owned an E60 M5, rod bearings actuators and clutch. I've owned a 2008 RS6, had a misfire and ended up needing a £9k fix. Currently own an E63 with the 5.5l V8 for over a year, been totally reliable
I sold a 2010 X5 a year ago in great condition and low mileage. Very difficult. I sold it via Autotrader in the end by pricing it low and uploading a very detailed video including all the paperwork, any blemishes, driving it etc. It was also a 7 seater and higher spec than yours but the previous shape. I got £7k for it
No, he 'moaned' about ppl (probably dealers) calling and saying 'what's your lowest price?' They should just make an offer, then Ben can either refuse, accept, or suggest a compromise price. It's a difficult time to sell these over £10k cars privately as most ppl don't have that much cash ready to buy a car, so it ends up being dealers calling.
My auntie had a terrible experience with motorway as well. She was given a really high (20,000) price for her q7 online and then in the bids got 18,000 (still good price) and then they came to see it and said we'll only give you 13,000🤣🤣🤣. She then sold it to a mate of my cousin for 18,000 🤷🏽♂️
Ripping your trousers (as you did for real) is better than having them pulled down (metaphorically) by lowball offers. Fingers crossed for the coming week! 🤞

The closer to the road, the better the driving experience. I had a new Range Rover parked behind me at a motorway service station, and the top of my car was just barely higher than the bonnet of it.
I honestly love your videos. Honestly, the quality isn't as good as STG, or the driving commentary isn't as focused as JM, but the effort and time is admirable.
This is heartfelt content. Which i enjoy much more than just car reviews which are much easier to arrange and diversify. This is the life of a petrolhead in the real world. I'm certain this content will stick in a way where this really can blow up to another level. Wish you all the best man.
Hi can we have more videos of you driving the family in the Range Rover For days out etc I thought the last video when you took your family away and had problems with the car was excellent Even my mrs enjoyed it Your channel is great
Love your content man! Keep your head up and don’t stress about the suvs. People appreciate real life and it’s what it is. Tell the real stories and those who aren’t keyboard warriors will love it 🙌🙌
Great content still mate, the market is very slow at the moment (as someone in the industry). Motorway is the better shout, you want to try and get in on a weekday action to maximise eyes on your prize.
Another great video be, To be honest I'd do a deal with Calvin and get the massirati because I love them cars but they are a real brave pill. What ever you do I'm sure it will be awesome and I for one will still be subscribed and watching what you do. Lots of love from Scotland 🙂
The key is when using online car buyers, be honest. The condition of a 1 year old car can vary dramatically so I don’t get the argument of it’s a 10 year old car it’s bound to have wear and tear. I see comments and have spoken to people saying they had a bad experience with motorway, car wow etc and being on the other side of the fence it tends to be exactly this, sellers are not honest about stone chips, dents, previous damage, 2 keys, service history etc so they take the best bid from the motorway dealer and the dealer then turns up to find the car not as described and then either cancel the sale or reduce the price. At the end of day it’s up to the seller if they accept the price.
I feel your pain, Ben. I've had my car advertised for the last 2 months. All I've had is people offering half what it's advertised for. It's a bad time to sell anything. Keep up the good work 👍
Can relate completely, couldn't give away a very, standard eco focus last year...thought these were popular cars for people. Ended up selling to a dealer via autotrader and lost money. Looking forward to the replacement when it happens!
You didn’t get a sale but still great content, even more so as it’s shows what happens in real life. Don’t be downhearted, it’ll go soon and you’ll thank yourself for not taking a low offer 👍
Recently sold my R53, great spec, full history, nicely modified in a great color combo, took 5months as it was up for more than you can buy a cheap one, the first person to view and drive it saw its value and couldn't leave without it. Hateful process and I didn't get what I wanted in the end but also didn't get shafted
probably one of the worst times in history to sell a car privately The market is simultaneously shitting itself so on the flip side your next car will be cheaper
Not long sold my Veloce. Be prepared for so many numpties who want an Alfa Giulia but know very little about them and why they are worth more than what autotrader is valuing them at.
Subscribed from when i watched your first video, really enjoying the content mate 👍 Curve ball, what about an E60 550i ? Also for selling, not sure they will be able to put enough across it to have a good enough margin but you could try Joe at Shifting Metal / Berrow Motors. Big Motoring World / EAG / SCC in Leeds
@ still an interesting watch! Just make sure you round the video off with a part 2 of how you sell it and then the purchase of the new car, these vids definitely need a conclusion 👌🏼
Great video dadcars. I recently tried to sell my mini via the companies you used and same as you they offer higher figures then the reality price is much lower. Hope you sell it soon and look forward to see your new ride when you get it.
Feel for you Ben, I hate selling cars too, the time wasters !! I recently sold my beautiful alfa 159 ti easily a £2000 car, we buyanycar offered a measly £650 !! An alfa specialist £450 for scrap !! I I stuck it on ebay for £1800 & got every penny ! patience is all you need & so glad it went to a car enthusiast that absolutely loved the car & not someone that just saw it as a something to make a quick buck, patience Ben.
Went through selling a car privately in September. Faced all the issues you’ve had and more! Was so frustrating. My car was a beautiful Alfa Giulia Veloce in Misano Blue. It had numerous upgrades including QV wheels. But wow, private buyers wanted it with a huge discount off the asking price, motorways auction price was 2k under what it was worth. It was a 19 plate with FSH, but as just reached 70k miles, autotrader and such like valued it at £14k! Mental! To someone who knows Alfas, was a £17k car all day long. In the end I took £15.8 for it and that was a steal for the buyer! Just be prepared for a good month or two to sell it at that price to get that extra £1k you know it’s worth. And not forgetting the rudest and pickiest people you will ever meet.
my recent experience......... that would take some telling! i owned a very very high spec Fpace portfolio since new (2019) only the 180hp auto turbo diesel and decided that now was the time to change it. If i would hold onto it for a few more years, likely i would lose a lot of the value it still has. I tried a few online companies but was not happy with their ideas of making me part with my pride and joy (which cost approx £57k new) - it had only done just about 37,000 miles and had original Jaguar warranty (extended and transferable) plus Jaguar service plan etc.... eventually what tipped the scales was looking for an I Pace, I got one from a main JLR dealer and used my car as p/x. There were good and bad parts to this story, but basically, by using my old car as p/x i did not have to pay too much on top to upgrade it to a 23 reg i pace, which is substanstially less well equipped than my old car even if is has double the BHP and is more comfortable in town. The insurance change however was double which i noticed straight away, road tax is still free on it (till next year when evs will be subject to £190)
Sorry about the experience. Selling something is a flipping annoyance regardless of what you sell. About the cold calling companies, remember that the UK still subscribes to European GDPR. You have the power to ask them 1) to erase your data from all databases, and 2) so they tell you which service send them your details. So you can go on and confront the broker that’s sold your data and if you escalate it enough, they can get in BIG trouble
My father has a 2012 Flying Spur Mulliner Spec. Black on Ivory. Possibly the nicest example of that particular shape. With only 12,500 miles on the clock. In Surrey.
Chin up Ben! Haven’t sold anything myself but sister has tried selling a couple of cars at both ends of the spectrum, £40k and £3k and nothing… just tumbleweed.
Great video ❤ I've been through the pain of Motorway / WBAC / Carwow and they're terrible with their valuation. Subscribed! Why not look at Berrow Motors / Shifting Metal? Joe might have offer you a decent amount for your X5. Sad thing is, the SE model that you have isn't as desirable as M Sport trim hence lower markups. Hope you can sell it soon 😊
Yeah I genuinely went for this one because it’s subtle… it’s also cheaper than any M sport X5 on the market right now 😅 all the others have higher miles, more owners for more money
I know just what you on about, just spent 5 months trying to sell are motorhome,it did sell but not at the price I wanted, but it did enable me to buy a very nice BMW 640d gran coupe,I love it,but the offer for my 2010 mx5 2.0 tec on trade in was a joke,so ended up keeping the mx5 for them sunny days, yes I live in the UK so not a lot of them, good luck
According to Autotrader your car books at £10730. However, you can't offer finance, deal with part ex, offer a warranty. So you are hoping to find a private buyer who wants a low spec (no offence) diesel (N57 timing chain) X5 with 100k on the clock for 10k. Take that carwow offer, you know it makes sense
It's definitely a buyer's market at the moment. I would do a bit of research on the Bentleys at that price. You need to factor in astronomical repair costs. I think the e60 is a good choice but it will be expensive!
I used eBay classified to sell my Passat in June this year. Yeah, it attracts the most time wasters, but imo it reaches the biggest audience. Plus selling privately means you’ll get a better price. WBAC are just a total waste of time. You’ve gotta be in big financial trouble to use those types.
Create new email address aliases when dealing with these companies….so you can see who’s selling your data. You can then delete the aliases when you’ve finished dealing with them.
Carwow will give you a high initial price then try and push it down to get their sale / commission. Their dealers will overbid too, knowing full well that they can also bat down the price if they find something which does not meet their expectations. One place that worked for me for a particular car was Arnold Clark.
Used Carwow to sell my BMW Touring hybrid, from 2022 with 28k miles. Carwow valued the car at £30k, actual best offer was £28k. Had to get rid of car due to redundancy so took the offer. Worth it to save on the finance payments but felt mislead by the Carwow valuation and think all these companies over value to get you in.
@dadcars it's a buyers market. Easy to get into something but hard to exit. The economics are simple. Cheap to buy, cheap to sell. It's fine and I'm not bothered as my next car will be cheap to get into.
I’d adjust the price on autotrader. I had a car up for 17k, wanted 15k. Sat on it for ages then dropped it down to what I wanted and sold it on 24hrs to a trader. Traders get early views on cars before they go live and it worked for me!
@ yep! The traders will know the CAP on it etc, and decent ones won’t haggle you down. Worth trying if you’ve already paid for the advert! If you’ve got it up at 12k, try it at 10.5k 👍
For those of us in the real world, this might be your best video yet. For those of us who use our cars for getting on with daily life, buying and selling cars is a royal PIA. Selling is particularly grim for all the reasons you mention. If cars are your hobby and you have a fleet then its not so bad, as long as you are patient. The online buyers are in reality probably no worse than some of the mainstream dealers, who will also lowball your car to get their margins up and also wouldn't want a 10 year old car. In a situation like yours the question is different, the car is a business asset and you can earn money from it, so the question you have to ask what is the opportunity cost of not taking the £9500 and what can you realistically get in a sensible time frame? As a rule SUVs are pretty boring, they're comfortable but other than that they're big, heavy, thirsty and not that exciting unless you go off road which most never do. For most of us having a car hanging around is ionconvenient but for you its preventing you making more exciting content and therefore costing you money.
This is a spot on comment actually, difference for me though is I’m still a small channel so the price I sell this for is genuinely all the money I have to spend on my next dads car… if I sell for less than 10k I just know I’ll be negotiating a price on my next car and 10k is more likely to get accepted than 9500. Any money I suddenly find down the back of the sofa is all but certain to be needed for maintenance on the types of cars I’m going for too. Once the channel grows I aim to have multiple cars so I can have overlap and no content drought when selling and fixing :)
Mate don't listen to the haters. You have a great channel, I'm selling my golf to my mate, to get a more fuel economic car that's more dad car. BMW estate. But chin up Ben.

This is 💯 true 👏
The closer to the road, the better the driving experience. I had a new Range Rover parked behind me at a motorway service station, and the top of my car was just barely higher than the bonnet of it.
😎
Especially when there's a big V8 engine up front.
I honestly love your videos. Honestly, the quality isn't as good as STG, or the driving commentary isn't as focused as JM, but the effort and time is admirable.
James is the UA-cam road testing GOAT 🙌
This is heartfelt content. Which i enjoy much more than just car reviews which are much easier to arrange and diversify. This is the life of a petrolhead in the real world. I'm certain this content will stick in a way where this really can blow up to another level. Wish you all the best man.
@@dhananjayringethanks man 🤞
Hi can we have more videos of you driving the family in the Range Rover
For days out etc I thought the last video when you took your family away and had problems with the car was excellent
Even my mrs enjoyed it
Your channel is great
Ah thanks man! I’m so glad people enjoyed it! 💯 We have got more family road trips planned 🙌
Hi Ben how are you?
Don't worry you'll sell that BMW in no time. Dadcars can do and sell anything.
Stay safe and take care.
Love your content man! Keep your head up and don’t stress about the suvs. People appreciate real life and it’s what it is. Tell the real stories and those who aren’t keyboard warriors will love it 🙌🙌
Thanks James :)
Genuine real life content, even if it ends up with what some may think of as an anti-climax, beats a contrived set up any day. 👍
😊👍
Great content still mate, the market is very slow at the moment (as someone in the industry). Motorway is the better shout, you want to try and get in on a weekday action to maximise eyes on your prize.
Yeah I thought as I’ve done all the work I may as well give it another try this time motorway early next week
Another great video be, To be honest I'd do a deal with Calvin and get the massirati because I love them cars but they are a real brave pill. What ever you do I'm sure it will be awesome and I for one will still be subscribed and watching what you do.
Lots of love from Scotland 🙂
Yeah I really like Calvin, I’d love to do a deal and Collab with him at some point for sure
@dadcars that would be great to see at some point. Have you considered the audio s8 v10?
Keep up the good work 👍
It’s frustrating as hell isn’t it!
Absolutely loved your haggling work with Taylor! Well played, sir!
Can relate completely, couldn't give away a very, standard eco focus last year...thought these were popular cars for people. Ended up selling to a dealer via autotrader and lost money.
Looking forward to the replacement when it happens!
Frustrating but I’ll make up for it with my next car 🙌
FYI we buy any car staff make their commission on difference between internet price & in person appraisal price
Love this channel. But you're a genuine guy so I am sure someone has something for you for 10k!!
I’m surprised I’ve not had anyone reach out
Sold my Audi earlier this year via carwow found it to be a great experience start to finish.
You didn’t get a sale but still great content, even more so as it’s shows what happens in real life. Don’t be downhearted, it’ll go soon and you’ll thank yourself for not taking a low offer 👍
😊👍
Great, honest video.
I’m glad people enjoyed this one, it wasn’t easy to make 😅
I hate selling anything and when someone asked me straightaway what's my lowest price i know he will offer me something much lower
Good video showing the reality of the car market at the moment. Also get the Bentley.
😅 what could possibly go wrong 👏
A neighbour has one of those mercedes the sound of it passing the house is amazing
Recently sold my R53, great spec, full history, nicely modified in a great color combo, took 5months as it was up for more than you can buy a cheap one, the first person to view and drive it saw its value and couldn't leave without it. Hateful process and I didn't get what I wanted in the end but also didn't get shafted
probably one of the worst times in history to sell a car privately
The market is simultaneously shitting itself so on the flip side your next car will be cheaper
💯
This was really useful for someone (me) who's currently weighing up my options to sell my Giulia Quadrifoglio.
What a car! 🫶 wish I had the budget for it 😊
@dadcars it's been fantastic but sadly, my bungalow is falling apart 😅
Not long sold my Veloce. Be prepared for so many numpties who want an Alfa Giulia but know very little about them and why they are worth more than what autotrader is valuing them at.
Subscribed from when i watched your first video, really enjoying the content mate 👍
Curve ball, what about an E60 550i ?
Also for selling, not sure they will be able to put enough across it to have a good enough margin but you could try Joe at Shifting Metal / Berrow Motors. Big Motoring World / EAG / SCC in Leeds
OG subscriber! 🙌 thanks man
Loved this video. Just be patient 😇 - someone will buy the car when the time is right. Keep up the great work!
Thanks man :)
Much prefer an honest video than a staged one, people want to see genuine scenarios. great content 👍🏻
This is good to hear from people I was stressing about this one! Thought everyone would be moaning 😅
@ still an interesting watch! Just make sure you round the video off with a part 2 of how you sell it and then the purchase of the new car, these vids definitely need a conclusion 👌🏼
Woolly hat AND shorts... Signs of a maniac 😂
🙌😊
You need to come and drive my s80 v8 dude and see if you like it. Very fun car, absolute unicorn. Would be under budget too
If you fancy a filming day down here let me know and we will book it in 🙌
Surely some of your loyal subscribers would pay what you want.
My subscribers don’t want SUVs 😅
Really good content. WBAC seem to be a bit of a lottery, I've sold a couple of cars with them with no adjustments at all other than the admin fee
If they’d given me 10k I’d have taken it and the rest of this video would have been me calling up cars to buy!!
Your neighbours must love you
my recent experience......... that would take some telling! i owned a very very high spec Fpace portfolio since new (2019) only the 180hp auto turbo diesel and decided that now was the time to change it. The insurance change however was double which i noticed straight away, road tax is still free on it (till next year when evs will be subject to £190)
Back in the day I ran 2 E60 M5, they were glorious cars. bUT I wouldn’t even consider running one without a BMW AUC warranty.
In Surrey.
Sounds stunning! 👏 Out of my price range sadly 😅
I subscribed as soon as i heard you say you dont phone people up and mess them around if you dont intend to buy.
Unless I’ve got the money ready to go I don’t even email people 🤷♂️
Chin up Ben!
Haven’t sold anything myself but sister has tried selling a couple of cars at both ends of the spectrum, £40k and £3k and nothing… just tumbleweed.
Strange times,
Great video ❤ I've been through the pain of Motorway / WBAC / Carwow and they're terrible with their valuation.
Enjoyed it. Great video. Don’t be disheartened
Thanks man :)
On the WBAC website, you can add any marks / damage, and it adjusts the price.
I've always found them very fair.
Cold calls wont be from Motorway. I sold a car on there and got no cold calls.
That X5 is a lot nicer than the Range Rover
Oh my, a Kansas fan! Also, you should buy my '10 335i convertible as a dad car £8000 :)
I’m going with “no” 😂
Hope this video proves me incorrect 😊
…oh dear…
Terrible outcome but great content ❤ Thanks 😊
@@infidelcastro5129you called it 😭
According to Autotrader your car books at £10730. However, you can't offer finance, deal with part ex, offer a warranty.
So you are hoping to find a private buyer who wants a low spec (no offence) diesel (N57 timing chain) X5 with 100k on the clock for 10k. Take that carwow offer, you know it makes sense
Wait 3/4 month you'll be able to but a taycan for 10K.
I’ll buy a Taycan when they are mega low and only as part of a Dadcars fleet 😅
It's definitely a buyer's market at the moment. I would do a bit of research on the Bentleys at that price. You need to factor in astronomical repair costs. I think the e60 is a good choice but it will be expensive!
It’ll be a brave pill I’m sure
I used eBay classified to sell my Passat in June this year. Yeah, it attracts the most time wasters, but imo it reaches the biggest audience. Plus selling privately means you’ll get a better price. WBAC are just a total waste of time. You’ve gotta be in big financial trouble to use those types.
Create new email address aliases when dealing with these companies….so you can see who’s selling your data. You can then delete the aliases when you’ve finished dealing with them.
How do you cope having all of those options, pros, cons and specs going round in your head, plus the time pressure 💥
You'll be fine mate 👍
I had the same situation with a Volvo V40. I ended up selling it for £250 over the trade price. Someone got a real bargain.
😔
@dadcars it's a buyers market. Easy to get into something but hard to exit. The economics are simple. Cheap to buy, cheap to sell. It's fine and I'm not bothered as my next car will be cheap to get into.
Actually, i enjoyed this video. Shows really life and not youtube magic as you say. Looking forward to the update.
I’d adjust the price on autotrader. I had a car up for 17k, wanted 15k. Sat on it for ages then dropped it down to what I wanted and sold it on 24hrs to a trader. Traders get early views on cars before they go live and it worked for me!
Did you say “NO OFFERS” in the ad?
@ yep! The traders will know the CAP on it etc, and decent ones won’t haggle you down. Worth trying if you’ve already paid for the advert! If you’ve got it up at 12k, try it at 10.5k 👍
@@dadcars and my 10p for the next Dad car… Audi S6 Avant. 5.2l 430bhp! There’s a nice one in the trader, 08, 65k miles, 11.5k 👍
Thanks man :)
