AMT Mack Cruiseliner and big rig trailer final build reveal....finally!

- At last, I have completed the AMT Mack Cruiseliner kit along with the AMT big rig semi trailer. I don't always build by the box art, but this one looked pretty cool like this, so that's the direction I went and then painted the trailer to match. Enjoy the video!

I built the same Cruise-Liner kit years ago as a youngster, and it was the same Ryder colours on the box art that caught my eye and caused to select that particular kit!
Yes, it definitely appealed to me. That paint is Plymouth Y1 lemon twist yellow
Yours turned out way better than the one I built over 40 years ago. I seem to recall using a flat yellow from the Testors "little square bottles" paint selection. @@ericsmodelgarage
I'm a life long truck modeller and a owner operator of over 45 years, this particular Mack Cruiseliner is a 1975 and a 1/2 and the way you can tell is the medallion on the grille center great job just tape off the roof and spray flat aluminum and it will be spot on.
Nice job! I'm not into the Big Rigs myself, but I certainly appreciate the time and effort that goes into a model like this. 😎👍
Thank you!
It's a superbly built model, and the truck is now at the top of the project list for the winter.
Fantastic job on the outfit.
AMT kits can be a challenge for a first time rig builder for sure.
Thanks for sharing 😊
@@bigcharliesmodelgarage296 Thanks. Charlie!
Very nice work. Those AMT big rigs can be a bear to build. But, your work is exceptional. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome Michael, thank you for the kind words!
Great job on the build, Eric. And good info on the bulldogs. Good luck at the show.
Thanks, David, much appreciated!
That came out great Eric, very well done.
Thank you David!
Incredible build man. I was blown away by that trailer floor. Also would like to see inside the cab. Anyway awesome build! Keep up the great work!
Thanks John! Check out my video "Update on Mack Cruiseliner..." It shows the interior up close before I installed it in the cab. Thanks for watching!
Very nice, Eric. Your Cruise-Liner came out great. All AMT truck kits are challenging and this one has to be one of the more challenging to say the least. You did a very nice job with it. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for the kind words!
Nothing like a beautiful truck build! Looks fantastic! Thank You for sharing with Us here. These kits make for an interesting diversion to cars and pickups. You did the rig well. I like what your doing looking forward to more. Later
Thank you, Russell, for the kind words. I enjoy sharing them with you
Beautiful build! Thats not an easy kit to build. Well done!!!
Thanks! There were definitely challenges but all worth it
Nice build Eric, always enjoy building/seeing the Big Rigs!!!
Thanks, Tim! I'm gonna be getting some footage of a big rig show coming up in May. Looking forward to that👍
Simply impressive build
Thank you!
The original Eyrtl semis made in Dryersville Iowa were the best fitting, AMTs were always a lot harder to work on. The Cruise liner came out really nice looking. I play American Truck Simulator, and I'm actually driving a Maçk Cruiseliner thus week.
Thanks for watching!👍
Nice work my friend... Your Mack build turned out great.. And your trailer turned out just as nice.. I've built this kit back in 2021 , and it was a little bit of a problem child.. But it wouldn't be an AMT Big Rig , if you didn't have a problem with it.. That's just a part of building one , and I wouldn't expect anything else.. But in the end when you're done , you come out with a really nice build.. Just like you have right here.. Again , very nice work..👍
Thank you!
Great build of a pure Pedigree Mack Cruiseliner.
Thank you!
Beautiful Mack cabover, I remember that's a lot of plastic weight on the two hinges when lifted open.
Thanks, David! Yes the cab is fairly hefty once assembled
Awesome work,I like these old tractor trailer trucks.Cheers
Thanks!
I had the Schlitz version many years ago and still have most of the pieces in a box somewhere. I did happen to get this Ryder version kit, and now I am retired, and have been itching to build this once again.
@timmyers1006 It's definitely a challenging kit, but quite rewarding when finished. Thanks for watching!
Just finished a Ryefield Panther G cutaway model with full interior and over 1500 parts. The assembly manual is 55 pages! This thing is only 280 parts! Heck, each track had that many parts on the tank!
Wow, that's quite an undertaking! Thanks for watching!
Beautiful build mate👍👍
Thank you!
I'm working my way through this kit at the moment. SO. MANY. SEAMS. There seem to be a number of parts that could have been molded as one piece are instead broken up into 2-4 pieces. I wonder if they wanted to get the number of pieces up for bragging rights. You made a VEEERY nice build. I love the weathering on the back.
Thanks, John! I agree, too many multiples.
Great looking build. Nice fuel tanks. The trailer works well with the tractor. Did you forget the Tractor taillights? I noticed that and wasn't sure if you left them off for some reason. Have fun at the show. August 26th is my birthday 🐭👍
I did forget the taillights. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll make sure I get those on. Thanks for watching and Happy early birthday!
@ericsmodelgarage your welcome. It would be great if you could make a video at the show. Best of luck 🐭👍
@dfactoryrat653 Yes definitely planning on getting some show footage. Thanks
My goto hobby shop in Michigan has one of these Macks, I called him to reserve it for me.
I'd like to build it in yellow like on the box, but since a local trucker when I was a kid had one of these in black, I think my build will try to replicate his rig.
The truck still sits behind his shop, he passed years ago, but his family has never sold it. It's in poor condition, but enough there I can see what it had.
It's always nice to have a 1:1 available for reference. This is actually a decent kit. The most challenging thing I thought was positioning all the pipe work and getting the cab tilt mounts in the correct position as the instructions aren't really clear on it. Best wishes on your build, and thanks for watching!
Well done, it's a challenging build!
Thank you! Challenging is exactly right👍
That is an awesome build Eric. Just came across your channels and subbed!!!I just got back into doing models and I built and posted a vid of the Smokey and the Bandit. It turned out great for only my 5th truck and trailer!!!
Cheers!
Earl
Thank you. Earl! And thanks for the sub👍👍 I'll have to check out your Bandit truck. I'm wanting to build the Movin on Kenworth sometime this year.
I've been considering doing the Rubber Duck and trailer. A lot more involved on that one!!

ACTUALLY THE GOLD BULLDOGS/ORNAMENTS MEANT MACK USED THEIR OWN ENGINES, USUALLY IN THE SUPERLINERS AND CRUISELINERS SERIES. THE CHROME DOGS WERE FOR THE NON MACK ENGINES USED; I FORGOT IF IT WAS CATERPILLAR, DETROIN, OR CUMMINS. BY THE WAY, NICE BUILD! YOURS LOOKS FANTASTIC!
Thanks! And thank you for the new info!
Job well done on your Mack build💪🏽, thats awesome❤️🔥 I have the same kit! Ya should build another identical trailer kit & make a tandem axle converter dolly, then ya can pull a "set of doubles" behind your bulldog! Thanks for sharing & Happy New Year🥳🎉🎉🎆🎆🎊🎊!
@@truckerray7533 Thanks! Tandems would definitely be cool👍
Yeah, they would & if ya go that rout, please show another video! Would be awesome to see😃
Yes it is correct if a mack truck was built with all mack suspension and diesel engine then yes it was fitted with a gold bull dog hood ornament if it was fitted with a different engine then the hood ornament was chrome plated
I hated the instructions in that kit absolutely horrible! But at the end im glad i did mine. Yours turned out way better then mine !
Wow thats real Purdy.
Is it just me or are the Chrome Aerials on top of the Door mirrors always look too think, and are they supposed to be Silver ?
I've also noticed alot of Truck models don't get a wash put over them to high light all the gaps around the doors and panel joints etc....The other weathering looks great though.
Thanks! Yes, the kit aerials are quite thick. From stock pictures that I've seen, most were silver color
Looks good
Thanks!
Very nice build what brand of yellow paint did you use on the mack
Thank you. The paint is Nason automotive fast dry enamel, code Y1 lemon twist yellow
I had a friend who's parents worked on the local usaf air bases there are twin ones in Suffolk intge 1980s and he bought one and I always wanted to build one myself I now have one and I'm going to build it in the yellow ryder livery.
@davidparry5479 Definitely a challenging kit in some ways, but overall quite a nice kit. Good luck on your build!
@ericsmodelgarage thanks I built some of them in the early 80s but not that one 1⃣ I'm looking for which I love to get which is a rare model is tge volvo f10 I think it is where you have a choice of 3 liveries
One quick question ? What is the length of the semi and trailer from end to end..
It's right around 24"
Thank you so much..
@@ernestvaldez2048 You're welcome!👍
All truck tractors have to have a catwalk
Eric do you use pledge for gloss coat. Looks awesome
@outfield1988 Thank you! Actually, there is no clear at all. It's just polished auto fast dry enamel
Looks great! What yellow did you use?
@@rwaudby8724 Thank you! It's 1970 Plymouth Y1 Lemon twist yellow.
I ACTUALLY WENT WITH DIFFERENT COLORS; SILVER CAB, GLOSS BLACK FRAME, PURPLE HUBS AND AIR TANKS, PURPLE AIR FILTER AND TUBES ON THE ENGINE, GREEN TOP OF THE AIR FILTER STACK AND I UTILIZED THE WHITE,GREEN AND PURPLE DECAL STRIPES. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE WAY MINE TURNED OUT. GREAT KIT. I EVEN DISPLAYED A REAL MACK GOLD BULLDOG HOOD ORNAMENT WITH MY MODEL TRUCK.
Nice. I had considered using those stripes originally
Train
what kind of glue do u use
I mostly use extreme power(medium thickness). It's a C A type glue. I sometimes use testors tube glue as well
What color yellow paint 🎨 did you use on both this Ryder mack truck and trailer kits I would like to know so when I get another a.m.t. mack cruise liner truck 🚚 because I want to build my own model of the a.m.t. mack cruise liner truck 🚚 because I already have one a.m.t. mack cruise liner truck 🚚 that I have painted 🎨 all white with the red white and blue stripe's on both sides of the truck 🚚 cab and at the back of this truck's cab as well this mack cruise liner truck 🚚 has the autoworld logo signs on both doors of this truck's cab I also have painted 🎨 the name's of two of my most favorite stars from baywatch lt, Stephanie holden and her sister Caroline holden on both sides of the front of this truck's cab and this truck also has the Peterbuilt pacemaker 352 cabover diesel truck and this mack cruise liner truck also has a big Coca-Cola logo on the back of this truck's cab, but can you please let me know what color yellow is the color that you put on your mack cruise liner truck and trailer that you have built!.
Absolutely, it is 1970 Plymouth Y-1 code, lemon twist yellow.
We want to know the scale
1/25
@@ericsmodelgarage thanks,, I built a 1/16 scale 3 axle rc scenic cruiser bus with posi on 8 rear wheels ,climbs 46% grade viewed at retrobrid 2
The mack is a tough build and the cab hinges suck
No doubt. That was my biggest beef with this kit.
@@ericsmodelgarage i had to fabric my own hated the ones that came with it
@ericsmodelgarage like to send you a pic of the one i built but don't know how
@flights47 If you have some pics on your phone, you could send them to my email (in channel and video description)
