James and Sarah here, back with another episode in our van build series. This time we’re starting to tackle the van conversion insulation which turned out to be a much bigger job than we anticipated. Hence, why we’ve split this part of the process into two parts.
In this video we’ll be adding sound deadening, then insulating the van walls using a mixture of rigid foam board and recycled plastic insulation.
It might look like we didn't have a clue what we were doing in parts of this video, but having lived in the van over a winter we can confirm we did in fact do a cracking job on our DIY campervan insulation.
There’s also a blog post on our website with lots more helpful info about why we choose the materials we did for our van insulation. Click here: thewholeworldornothing.com/in...
Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this episode don’t forget to smash the thumbs up & don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss part two...
    Catch you in the comments!

We need you to weigh in and decide the argument once and for all - whose panel was better?!! James's or Sarah's? Let us know down below and drop us any questions you have about insulating a van 😀

James won the panel challenge 🙌

I would probably have insulated the whole thing with the plastic wool, and not bothered with the kingspan board. I know a guy who did that. For the larger panels, he sprayed adhesive onto the panels and then pressed the wool on and let the adhesive hold it.

Spray-foam to the rescue! Good work you two. I installed some insulation and a bit of a panel ceiling on my first van (not the one you both were in) and it was tough work - and my project looked awful in the end - LOL!

Haha spray foam is pretty amazing stuff! Very forgiving which is great because as you say, insulating is pretty tough!

This was great to watch! Just starting my van build and this was really interesting regarding the spray foam and not having to be super precise with the cutting, this will save me tonnes of time 😊 also congratulations on the little one 😁

Hey guys! Im starting a van conversion by myself and I’m just about to fit the instillation. Did you fit the electrics and wiring on top of the ply wood or the instillation? I will have roof fitted solars

Hi! Our electrics are on top of our insulation and underneath out cladding. Good luck with your build 👍

Hi, I've just got my Ford Transit LWB High Roof and starting my first conversion! Just wondering how many Recticel boards you used for your Sprinter?
