James and Sarah back with another episode in our van build series. This week we’re finally finishing up our DIY campervan insulation. So that’s the van roof insulation going in and also the vapour barrier installation.
That’s right, we are now the proud owners of a spaceship!
We were so excited to this stage of our sprinter van conversion, because from here on out we get to start putting in the final layers of the walls and flooring.
Watch on to find out why we used the insulation that we did, and come say hello in the comments if you have any of your own van insulation tips or have any questions.
We also have a couple of blog posts in the van build section of our website which go into more detail about insulating a van conversion which you might find helpful:

Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this episode don’t forget to smash the thumbs up & subscribe so you don’t miss the next episode.
Catch you in the comments!

Is a vapour barrier necessary or a complete waste of time? Let us know your thoughts!
Absolutely need a vapour barrier otherwise any warm air from inside the van could condensate on the van panels.
That’s our thinking exactly 👍 There are so many differing views on it though!
i think its necessary if you don't want to be fighting mold and mildew. you want to keep the moisture you produce away from the insulation.
I love how well you explain everything. I’m not doing a van at this moment in time but I’m finding I’m learning so much and it’s interesting too! Thank you x
Thank you, that’s great to hear 😀
Fantastic work guys! Can’t wait to see next week’s video! ☺️
Ah thank you 😊
Love your videos. Keep up the great work
Thank you very much! Really appreciate it 👍
Love it. Just brilliant seeing how you did it!
Cheers bro!
Could of cut ply panels to suit the shape of rear doors, stick the reflective stuff to the ply, job done!
Hey guys, how many rolls of the vapour barrier did you end up using please?
I followed a similar insulation regime. All in all for the initial insulation, then taping the ply lining, then sorting out area where electric's or services came through I figure I used about 1300meters. In some places you'll double up, or mess up the application, and this stuff doesn't peel off :-)
Great vid guys! How will you fix the ply wood to the sides of the van if you don’t know what’s behind it to then drill it on and secure it?
Thank you! That’s hopefully explained in the cladding video that we did, but you can feel where the wooden battens are through the vapour barrier and we did mark their positions too with some electrical tape 👍
You should have used spray glue that’s used to glue automotive headliner instead of the pins
love your videos! Thanks. I just got my first tiny van... its my first time driving ever! I will be following your insulating methods. :-). Can I ask about the window u installed. Is it on a sliding door that you use?? Im thinkin of doing the same on my sliding door. Do u find it to be any issue for the window as u use the door? I want to still use my sliding door .... so as i slide the door open and slam it shut... im wondering will this cause any pressure on the glass or strong vibrations? I will Really appreciate your thoughts? Thanx a million... and Merry Christmas
Did you foil wrap the floor
Hi looking good, i should be insulating and fitting a vapour barrier in a couple of weeks, did you get yours from Wickes or on line from a specialist ?
Oh nice, it’s quite a fun stage getting all that ticked off so good luck with it! We got ours from eBay, the link’s in the description 😀 We got quite a large roll as well so we could use the remainder to make our window covers 👍
@@TheWholeWorldorNothing Thanks looking forward to your next instalment
No problem 😀
Wtf foaming everything 😂
