I have posted in the past about my dog Buster who had seizures, brain tumor & cancer. He loved this home made food! Well we had to put Buster down on Thursday. His body was giving out. He was on phenobarbital & CBD & this homemade food recipe for the last year. I enjoyed making his food as much as he enjoyed eating it. I recommend making your own. If I ever get another dog I will put it on this food right away. Thanks Buck Stop!!
I am so sorry for your loss of Buster. I love how you were taking such care of him, even making is food. I know how hard it is to lose a family member. I send love and blessings to you and your family. 🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Buck!!! I started to comment on your video from a year ago and mention being able to simplify it, but saw this link and WTG! I've been making my 14 year old dog Watson's food for years in the Instant Pot and he loves it and does the happy dance for it as well. I haven't added the eggs like that, but will certainly do that now. Watson likes seafood so I alternate between what's on sale, beef, chicken, turkey, tilapia, salmon, etc. I tend to use the frozen peas/carrots/green beans blend since it cuts down on time. I also add a little coconut oil for the joints along with the turmeric. I started making my own flavor toppings too since those are super easy as well :). You and Sable both look awesome btw and love seeing her swimming!
I've seen all the dog cooking videos. I'm a first-time dog owner. They're a big help! My almost nine month old Australian Shepherd loved this recipe! She's a picky eater when it comes to food but not her medicine 😂. Thanks a ton!! Subscribed.
I started making our dogs food about six months ago, after seeing all the controversy with the use of rice, I came across some information talking about using quinoa instead. Quinoa has more of a nutrient contribution to the dog food. I’m going to start adding the egg shells.
Great recipe, thank you so much for sharing. You’re the reason I found the farmers dog food recipe in the first place. So thank you again. One tip, though, you might wanna wait till the food cools down all the way before you put it into plastic. The heat can leach the chemicals from the plastic into the dog food unless you’re using PBA free and all that.
Loved the video. I have been making my own dog food for about five months. You list the ingredients, but not amounts for each ingredient. Could you please share? Thanks.

Hi! Came across with this video of yours while surfing. Your dog is so beautiful, i have a chocolate labrador and she's almost 18 months old. Will this recipe cater also for her age and how much are your serving your dog in every meal? Also how often does your dog eat in a day? I really want to start her in eating home cooked healthy food. Prior to watching this video, i was planning in subscribing at farmers food, but then since i have the time to cook, i want to do it myself. I am currently serving my dog with dry food and then toppers with ground turkey, sometimes, sardines and always with vegetables. But i want to make sure i have the right measurem3nt that i meet all her nutritional needs. Thank you so much for sharing. Be blessed.
I have a 15 1/2 year old Chocolate Labrador was has become very picky eater. I have purchased Farmers Dog, Fresh Pet and switched to a organic dry food. All of them she didn’t like, I made up the recipe with ground turkey, at first she didn’t want it . I had made up a double batch of ground turkey, so I figured let me sprinkle some on top of her food. I guess she want more meat, she ate it all. Thank you for the recipes!
love this! the only thing i would add is some fish oil and organ meat! I'm gonna try it out for my dog soon, he's been a really picky and anxious eater so I'm hoping this will help.
Thanks for sharing your recipes and experience, this is interesting and helpful. I am wondering if you considered not cooking these ingredients and feed it to Sable raw? Also as far as cooking in the Instant Pot, you mentioned concern of over cooking the vegetables, why not cook the meat at the time you have found works and cook the vegetables separately at a much lower time, or not at all?
Real easy way is, put veggies in food processor. Add to turkey meat. I alternate rice with potatoes, and I add organ meat. Add a few raw eggs and mix. 2 cookie sheets I bake 2 giant meat loaves. Freeze in bags.
I wonder if my rescue boyo would do well on a recipe like this. All my dachshunds eat PMRand get veggies on occasions. But I think my rescue pitbul has so many allergies and 1 may be a protein allergy because my homemade food is mostly meat and barely any veggie and so he thrives on kibble. This recipe has a ton of veggies and barely any meat so I may try it
Not sure if you ever received an answer to this 😊 but the global nutrition committee WSAVA posted a guideline here: wsava.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Calorie-Needs-for-Healthy-Adult-Dogs-updated-July-2020.pdf
Do you use specific meats (organic, grass fed, etc)? Or is it just whatever is cheaper than week? And what's the protein/fat percentages on the meats that you choose?
How do you know shes getting enough of each vitamin/mineral? Are the shells from 3 eggs enough calcium for all that food? Was this vet approved? I want to make my own food but i don't want to be missing any nutrients
I was worried about this too. So, I use a multivitamin powder to be safe. I use Missing Link but also like Wholistic Pet Organics and Native. All 3 are available on Amazon.
Good afternoon, can I please get this recipe? How much do you use of everything I want to do this with my pug I believe it would last her so much longer than buying from the store. Please get back to me 🙏
I have one question for all your recipes, which I made the one with ground turkey, Will these recipes supply all the nutrients that dogs need? I've noticed some supplements available that we can add to food, however I do not want to over do it and cause health issues for my pets if it is not necessary to add supplements. Please advise.
Hello! My husband and I have really enjoyed watching your dog food videos. Because of digestion issues, we are going to try making our own dog food for the first time and your videos were a huge part of that. We have a 65lb Bernese/German Shepherd/Rottweiler 10 month old pup. I'm a bit nervous about this whole process because I want to make sure that our girl is getting what she needs. I was curious about a couple things. (1) How do you know how much to feed sable? I'm assuming based on her weight. (2) How did you learn about what supplements to make sure she's getting? It sounds like she's getting a lot of great nutrients from her food. We appreciate your insight and inspiration! :)
Hello Buck Stop.....Well, I have a problem. Having watched a few of your videos I got inspired and bought the 8qt Instant Pot like you use in your videos. 4 different time now I have tried to cook up a batch like what you generally make up. Every time I get the "Burn" notice and I have to empty out the pot i not a bucket and clean the pot and try again. Each time I have had to resort to a 8qt slow cooker I have and 4 or more hours later I'm finally done. It's a mess! How is it that you can cram til brimming that pot and just press pressure and off it goes? I called Instant Pot tech support and described my issue and they told me to not fill past that 2/3 line on the pot. Add 3 cups of water and I should be good to go. So next time I'm breaking down my "cook" into two batches and stay below that 2/3 line and see how it goes. Signed Buck from another Mother....
oh my - yes I have had the burn notice more than a couple times - the trick is water - rice and water on bottom potatoes and carrots next then the meat and veggies on top - the veggies break down and add more liquid - this is what I have found to work - making a batch again today
Hasn’t been a good experience so far. My IP kept saying “burn” so I turned it off, the veggies were stuck to the bottom . Yes, I put 1.5 cups of water in. Transferred everything to the stovetop, hopefully my dog loves it.
you set the timer for 20 mins but then you said its gonna take an hour when you went out to pool ? i am confused did you cook it more after the 20 mins ???
It takes the InstantPot a while to get up to pressure and then it cooks for the 20 min. Since he had it packed full, it probably took almost 40 min to get up to pressure.
Firstly, thanks for the videos! In prior videos you separated the meat/veggies and cooked at 20 mins each. By combining you mentioned it would take about an hour. I plan on trying this and wanted to verify first - How long do you let all ingredients cook for in the insta pot?
I have been making my little baby food for quite sometime. However I am just worried I am not adding everything he needs. His poop is a lot less than when he was on kibble. Right now, I am feeding him chicken with green beans, sweet potatoes and green beans. Guess I need to add eggs and rice. Any suggestions?
I add a multivitamin powder to mine just to be safe. I use Missing Link but also like Wholistic Pet Organics and Native. All 3 brands are available on Amazon and have multivitamin powder and other specialized ones for your dog’s needs (I.e., hip and joint, digestion, etc).
A good calculation is to multiple your dog’s weight by 0.03 if they are young or more active 0.02 if they are older or less active 55 pounds X 0.02 = 1.1 pounds Or 55 pounds x 0.03 = 1.65 pounds The answer is how many pounds of fresh food your dog needs per day. 1 pounds = about 2 cups of fresh food. Each dog’s needs are different so this calculation offers a good starting point and you can adjust the amount as your dog needs. For supplements, I like Missing Link. Also Wholistic Pet Organics and Native. All 3 brands are on Amazon and have multivitamins and specialized vitamins based on yours dog’s needs. :)
for my pup I spend around $25 per week - I look for sales and depending on what ingredients that can vary but on average $25 per week - side not: when we were buying kibble we were spending $100 a month and a half time frame.
I’ve done a lot of research and found a good calculation to help you determine where to start. Take your dogs weight and multiply it by 0.02 or 0.03. 0.03 is for older, less active dogs. 0.02 is for younger, more active dogs. For example, my dog is 65 pounds, 2 years old, and high energy. 65 pounds x 0.03 = 1.95 pounds (I rounded to 2) The answer (2) is how many pounds per day your dog needs to eat of fresh food. 1 pound = 2 cups of fresh food. This should work ok but all dogs are different so you can also adjust a little for your dog’s needs if you see they are gaining too much or losing. But this calculation helps with a pretty accurate starting point
Since I started making my dogs food, about 3 months ago now, I've noticed he occasionally eats dirt. Some research on the internet shows this could be from a nutritional deficiency. Besides the food nutrients, sunflower oil, turmeric, pepper, fish oil and a little salt I've added.... Do you see this in your dog or has anyone noticed? Thinking about adding a supplement in the form of a pill type to correct this?

Put my stuff in a large pot with lid, 300° in the oven. Doesn't burn, everything's cooked, easy to mix and @239° it's really sterilized. Dog loves it, thank you!
I’ve been feeding her all for 20 years. If you want to cook it that’s fine. But this recipe has got some serious issues. About 80 to 90% of what your dog eats should be Animal protein. Veggies should be a topper or a little bit of enhancement, but absolutely not the focus. And rice is nothing but inflammatory filler. You need a variety of muscle meats, it’s OK to mix turkey and beef and pork, etc. You need some organ meat in there. At the very least liver and heart. Eggs are good. Grind up the shells so they actually can get some value from them. Replace the sunflower oil with coconut oil. I know you mean well, but it cooked or a raw diet isn’t good if it’s not including the things that the dog needs. You also need a source of raw meaty bones. If you don’t want to feed your dog raw bones, then use the four leaf Rover brand of bone replacement.
How much and how many times a day do you feed your dog????????????????? My dog weight is 116lbs. i make homemade dog food from your video but I don't know how much to feed my DOGGO! Please respond to my post!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This recipe is great you need some organ meats. Especially liver. They need the zinc supper important Could you list the amount of everything in the recipe for us please. Sabel looks great. The pool is good exercise for her wish I had a pool for my baby. Thank you for your videos
thank you yes I forgot I actually have beef liver in freezer - as for measuring I used 4 lbs of chicken the rest I estimated - the general rule I follow is 1/3 protein 1/3 carb and 1/3 veggies
unless I'm missing some ground breaking scientific discovery regarding dogs diet, looks abit too much veggies no? normally for a 10kilo dog. u give them no more than half a medium carrot per day. you put a whole tray of vegs. a nice 30-40 % of the food u feeding ur dog is vegs. dont think that sounds healthy. vegs may be good for dogs, but should make up no more than 10% of its diet. ideally 5%. PLease enlighten me if im wrong.
the key to understanding what's the best dogs diet is to look into their health issues when they get old. what type of diseases do dogs tend to die from? primarily, it is cancer. cancer is mainly caused by acidity built in their body. food makes a massive factor in the built up of acidity. the best way to reduce acidity in a mammals body is actually drinking water. ideally, you have to drink alkaline/ high PH level of water (ideally 8.5 ph.). cheap and healthy for u and for ur pet. buy an alkaline machine. reduce the acidity in you = reduce potential diseases.
meat sure does have a lot of acidity, specifically pork. chickens are fine. dont over feed ur pets. but vegs arnt also part of ur dogs main diet. u cant be turning them vegan guys. abit of veg is good, that is true (according to the latest scientific finds that is)

great substitution - I have used Quinoa instead of rice before so that could be an option maybe thanks for sharing
@@TheBuckStopHi can I swap the rice for the quinoa in this recipe? Thanks
@@wolverinegnr I have done it in the past when I ran out of rice so I say yes you can :)
How much lentils did you use?
Unless you have a very high active dog rice is not suggested in high quantities, quinoa or barley is a good alternative

hi,
how much food does she eats in a day?
I don't have a pressure cooker I don't trust those things how else can I cook this

How much to feed a 25 pound dog per day,
How do you know how much to give her? My pup is 55 lbs. are there any supplements you give your pup as well?
A good calculation is to multiple your dog’s weight by
0.03 if they are young or more active
0.02 if they are older or less active
55 pounds X 0.02 = 1.1 pounds
Or
55 pounds x 0.03 = 1.65 pounds
The answer is how many pounds of fresh food your dog needs per day.

Depends on age energy level and such - I suggest asking your Vet for proper amounts - Sable is 75 lbs and I give her about 3 cups a day
I’ve done a lot of research and found a good calculation to help you determine where to start.
Take your dogs weight and multiply it by 0.02 or 0.03.
0.03 is for older, less active dogs. 0.02 is for younger, more active dogs.
For example, my dog is 65 pounds, 2 years old, and high energy.
65 pounds x 0.03 = 1.95 pounds (I rounded to 2)
The answer (2) is how many pounds per day your dog needs to eat of fresh food. 1 pound = 2 cups of fresh food.
This should work ok but all dogs are different so you can also adjust a little for your dog’s needs if you see they are gaining too much or losing. But this calculation helps with a pretty accurate starting point
@@TheBuckStopyour 3 cups shows how accurate this is.
75 pounds x 0.02 = 1.5 pounds
1.5 pounds = 3 cups
:)
I add a multivitamin powder to my dog’s homemade food. I use Missing Link but also like Wholistic Pet Organics and Native. All 3 brands are available on Amazon and have multivitamins as well as specialized supplements based on your dog’s needs (I.e., hip and joint, digestion, etc).
What does it cost to make the food ? How many times do you feed sable per day ? Thank you
2 times a day and about $25 per week
Fantastic job!!😊
Thank you! 😊
Did you use 4 cups rice to 4 cups water?
2 cups
@@TheBuckStop ok thank you! My dogs have been thriving thanks to you and your videos. Thanks so much for sharing!
Doesn't matter the cost.. or time of work for our favorite Bork Borks.. were here for it! 🫠😊🙃
My dog around 100 lbs i wonder how many cup i need to feed him. Moring time feed 2 cups and dinner feed 2 cups ?
A good calculation is to multiple your dog’s weight by
0.03 if they are young or more active
0.02 if they are older or less active
100 pounds X 0.02 = 2 pounds
Or
55 pounds x 0.03 = 3 pounds
The answer is how many pounds of fresh food your dog needs per day. 1 pounds = about 2 cups of fresh food.
Each dog’s needs are different so this calculation offers a good starting point and you can adjust the amount as your dog needs.
I like to add a multivitamin and use Missing Link. Also like Wholistic Pet Organics and Native. All 3 brands are on Amazon and have multivitamins and specialized vitamins based on yours dog’s needs.

@@breannemichele9988 Thank you so much !
How much does she eat per day? How much does she weigh?
If its for a week do you HAVE to freeze it
yes we freeze just keep fresh and save room in fridge
Put my stuff in a large pot with lid, 300° in the oven. Doesn't burn, everything's cooked, easy to mix and @239° it's really sterilized.
Dog loves it, thank you!
Bad news ... I only have a 6qt Instant Pot not an 8qt.... Adjust or get a bigger one? 🙃
Decision Decision? 😉
I mad a video answering those questions and more - but awe give 1.5 cups in AM and 1.5 cups in PM
Which video
This recipe is great you need some organ meats. Especially liver. They need the zinc supper important Could you list the amount of everything in the recipe for us please. Sabel looks great. The pool is good exercise for her wish I had a pool for my baby. Thank you for your videos
thank you yes I forgot I actually have beef liver in freezer - as for measuring I used 4 lbs of chicken the rest I estimated - the general rule I follow is 1/3 protein 1/3 carb and 1/3 veggies
Aww I don't have an insta pot!
Crockpot works too! I do high heat for 4 hours. Works great!
I’ve also baked it all in a large lasagna pan. 400 degrees for 4 hours.
@breannemichele9988 look thanks!
Can you use other oils besides sunflower or peanut oils I have food aggllires and puppies have sensitive tummies
I use coconut oil for my dog and I've seen it used in other dog food recipes.
Animals need salt to
My dog is soooo picky! Just made this and he ate most ingredients besides the peas and the blueberries :( booo
So 40$ a week it seems? Too bad about inflation

unless I'm missing some ground breaking scientific discovery regarding dogs diet, looks abit too much veggies no? normally for a 10kilo dog. u give them no more than half a medium carrot per day. you put a whole tray of vegs. a nice 30-40 % of the food u feeding ur dog is vegs. dont think that sounds healthy. vegs may be good for dogs, but should make up no more than 10% of its diet. ideally 5%.
PLease enlighten me if im wrong.
the key to understanding what's the best dogs diet is to look into their health issues when they get old. what type of diseases do dogs tend to die from? primarily, it is cancer. cancer is mainly caused by acidity built in their body. food makes a massive factor in the built up of acidity. the best way to reduce acidity in a mammals body is actually drinking water. ideally, you have to drink alkaline/ high PH level of water (ideally 8.5 ph.). cheap and healthy for u and for ur pet. buy an alkaline machine. reduce the acidity in you = reduce potential diseases.
meat sure does have a lot of acidity, specifically pork. chickens are fine. dont over feed ur pets. but vegs arnt also part of ur dogs main diet. u cant be turning them vegan guys. abit of veg is good, that is true (according to the latest scientific finds that is)
Way too much stuff
Oh god….. Shet up! He’s an amazing pet owner. His recipes are great and super informative
Wow, she's lost a lot of weight, good for her.
